In this thread give ONE stratagey that WORKS and ONE stratagey that DOESN'T!

DOESN'T WORK: Excuses as to why you can't plan and do good for yourself.

Works: Buying lots of produce, fish and meat & doing a lot of cooking.

Doesn't work: Buying lots of frozen meals, getting takeout, ordering from the deli counter, eating out frequently.

DOESN'T WORK: Expecting someone/some program to educate you

WORKS: Writing down your daily intake in an online journal. It helps me avoid eating horrible foods just because I don't want to write it down and then I rationalize with myself :P

DOESN'T WORK: Avoiding portion control. Don't eat until you're full, eat until you're satisfied and bulk up on veggies. Listen to your body!

works- tracking my calories online as soon as I eat something
doesn't work- adding up in my head what I've eaten - I always end up eating more than I thought.

Works - Keeping track of what I eat and the calories and fat in it.
Doesn't Work - "Guesstimating" how much I've eaten (I always think "it's only 100 calories", but gosh they add up fast!).

Doesn't Work: instant gratification and saying "it doesn't matter", or "i'll start again tomorrow"

Doesn't work: Listening to the little voice that just one is okay because you know you won't just have one!!

See now, we're all different. Repeating my menus works beautifully for me. Beautifully.

Works: Incorporating a variety of nutritious foods into my diet so I feel satisfied.

Doesn't work: Trying to incorporate everything into my diet so I don't feel "deprived." Even things humans should not be eating in the first place.
