How many pounds did you lose before you went down a pant size? I am so confused... I have lost 31 pounds and I am still wearing 16's. I have 14's in my closet, which I can put on if I am laying down and/or jumping... haha... I bought them because I thought I would be in them like 6 months ago!! But I am still in my 16's and they aren't loose... and I don't get it!:?::?::?:

if you are like me then this is what happens-you wear your pants low (where most pants sit nowadays). Is most of your fat in your belly? I would wear a tight 16 below my HUGE gut and while my belly was shrinking (i just went from 198 to 160 lbs) my pants size didn't really change until i was 170 lbs. However, everyone commented on how much my belly went down. Could that be it? Eventually you lose your belly and then the fat falls off the rest of your body too. Ppl gain and lose differently.

Thanks! Yes, most of my weight is in my belly/chest... I don't wear my pants below my belly though, usually around my belly button & with a belt. Even my belt is still on the 4th notch, but it is getting a little loose, so I am expecting to to go to the 5th soon enough... I guess one of the biggest things I looked forward to was buying new clothes and the thrill I would feel of being in a 14, 12, etc.... I just feel like I will get to my goal of 125 and still be in a 16!!:(
Oh well, I am doing what I can do! I guess I thought 31 pounds would make a difference.... especially because I am short, at only 5'1".

Yeah, I'm the same way. when I was 250 I was a 16, 20 lbs later I'm a 14...and will probably remain a 14 for another 20 lbs. I remember when I lost weight "the last time" (baaaah!!) when I was 207 I was in a 14. It's weird and annoying and frustrating. right now I'm losing in my arms and legs.

OMG--it took me literally MONTHS to leave a size 16. When I first began, most of my 16's were pretty tight. I guess I lost 25 pounds or so before I could get into a 14.

Now for the fantastic news. After you get beneath a 14 or so, sizes start going down much quicker. Just hang in there and know those single digits are just around the corner! :)

Meh, I kinda wish I hadn't read this thread :D It will probably be a good long while before I lose pants sizes. I'm short, and have always had a tummy roll. Then I had 2 c-sections in 3 years, which made it worse. I will get there! Someday!

I tried my 14's last night and I can actually get them up and buttoned... but they look ridiculous because of the huge tummy roll they have hanging over them!! But, I had to jump in them last time I tried, which I didn't do this time... so I guess I am making progress!!!

Honestly, it took me like 40-50 lbs to go down a pant size. Mostly because I don't gain my weight in my hips/butt. So I'm not really losing much from there. 80+ pounds lost so far, and I went from a 24 to a 20.

I've lost 2 (maybe 3?) pant sizes in 60 lbs... Now things are starting to move a little faster but in the 200's it was sllloooow going. Hang in there!

Thanks ladies! I don't really gain weight in my hips/butt either--that is probably why... I will just accept my 16's for now... I just can't wait for 12-14 so I can shop in the stores at my favorite stores instead of online!!

One time, I lost 30 lbs. and I didn't wear a small size. I was so irritated, but I just realized that was my body and I coudn't change it :)

I've only lost about 8lbs and dropped from a 14 to a 12 but I know if I lose another 8-12 lbs I will probably still be wearing a size 12 with the waist altered. Everyone's body is different, I have a lot of belly fat to lose but the butt fat doesn't leave as quickly (if at all!! -) Also, it depends on the brand of clothing, the more expensive brands tend to cut their clothes bigger - you know, the psychological thing of getting a 10 when all other clothes are a 12.

Hang in there and don't get too discouraged.

I hear you on the c-sections, have had two myself in the last 3 years!

For the record, I weigh 155 and I wear size 14 because all my weight is on my hips/buttocks...

I wear a 16 right now. But even when I was about 215 two years ago, I was still in a 16 so I expect to be in a 16 for a while! Sad... but 14 is coming and that makes me happy. :)

I know that when I used to weigh 145 i was still in size 14 pants. I have a medium build and wide set hips so even though 145 is an ideal weight for me, I just have to know that i will never be a size 6, and thats OK as long as I'm healthy and feel great! ;)

I've noticed that in a lot of size charts the difference between larger sizes are 2-3 inches. The difference between smaller sizes is only about an inch.
Right now, I'm in 20s. they're starting to get loose, but I am nowhere near getting into 18s.

Old Navy pants (I like Old Navy because they have 36 inch inseam)
size.........waist (inches)
20...........39 1/2
18...........37
16...........34 1/2
14...........32 1/2
12...........30 1/2
10...........29
8.............28
6.............27
4.............26
2.............25
1.............24
0.............23

I was going to add the same thing and sizes are so bizzare I weigh 140 I do exercise lots and I did just in the last few month through illness and eating gain about 5lbs I am in late 50's I have from size 4 to size 10 that all fit the SAME in my closet and I have 9s and 8's that don't and 4.s several that do?
I am very thick through the middle even though I don't have fat I have a thick waist so I have to find thing cut lower on the hip. Just try more things on.

I don't think it's really about what size you wear. After all, sizes vary so much based on who makes the clothes, the cut etc etc. I tend to focus more on how I look in the clothes as opposed to what size they are!

I'm close to 20lbs (maybe hit it this week) down, and I haven't dropped a pants size. My 16s are still my only ones that fit. I think the difference between a 14 and 16 is BIG - bigger than say, from 16 to 18, or 18 to 20. Making that leap from a 'plus' size to a 'misses' size is a big deal! :) Hang in there, it'll happen.

For me, my boobs are shrinking. My ankles are skinny. But my belly and booty are still big as ever. Ack!

Thanks for sharing this! I guess it never occurred to me that there might be more inches between sizes in the larger sizes! That explains why so many of us who still have a ways to go are staying in the same sizes forever!

i lost 55 pounds and only dropped 2 pant sizes, and barely! the 18's were big on me when i was at my biggest, and 14's are still a bit tight on me most of the time now. it's ridiculous. i was a 16 for a looooong time.

i really feel your pain, it's soooo annoying. but i also carry the majority of my weight on my stomach (LAME!) so it's whatever... just gotta keep pushing. don't give up homie. :)

Yes, unfortunately it all depends on your build, fat distribution, frame set, and where your body decided to lose the weight. If you tend to gain and lose allover, you're just not going to see the dramatic size shifts of a person who gains in a specific area.

Right now I have a variety of 16's and 18's. Some of the 16's are big and some of the 18s are tight. Clothing sizes are soo different and varied just by manufacturer. I really want to get to that size 14 and then the 12 though.

Yeah I feel you on that.
When I lose weight my boobs typically go down first,
then my legs or whatever and my belly is the last thing.
After two c-sections with my kids, I am not sure what will happen when I lose this time.

But the point is we're all losing weight.
At the end of the day that's what matters..

Here is my drama. I've lost weight (about 30 lbs since February), and I'm still wearing the same size!! I can totally see a difference, but still can't go a size down. How is this possible? I'm also a bit frustrated by the fact that my body weight will go up/down about 4 lbs from day to day!! Perhaps I need a new scale???
