Before I started doing the 30DS I was going to Curves 3 days/week. I have continued with that schedule even though in the beginning my muscles were very sore. I am almost finished with my 30 days....even though I haven't lost a lot of weight I am very anxious to check my measurements again. I can really see a difference. I have loved working out with Jillian and have purchased a couple of her other videos and will be adding them after the holidays.

Happy Shredding!

Well, my endurance has definitely improved. The first time I did Shred, after each workout I'd lay on the floor in a sweaty heap (all Levels).

This time, I'm jumping around through the Levels (2 days on Level 1, 2 days on Level 2, 2 days on Level 3...repeat) and it's not nearly as challenging! Yay! Still hard, yes, but not as hard. I have to laugh because there are still certain exercises where I say, "Jillian, are you crazy??!" (usually the arms strength moves) when she keeps going and going. LOL! But, yeah, I love Jillian and 30DS! Glad to be doing it again.

Jillian keeps me motivated...I love how she keeps pushing you to do more. I'm afraid to stop...she may pop out of the T.V......

I'm going to get this DVD in the mail through Netflix in a few days. I'm so excited!! It would be awesome to buddy up with someone and work out 'together'/keep each other up to date with progress/support each other. Anyone interested?

Hi Bella3 - We can be buddies. We have about the same amount to lose and I just started the workout. Let me know when you receive it. Good Luck and take it easy at first.

I'm restarting the 30 Day Shred tomorrow after losing 20 lbs during the summer with it. I've maintained the 20 lb loss and I'm hoping for another 20 lbs before Valentine's Day! Anyone interested in starting with me tomorrow?

Welcome to all the new faces! Today I finished D6L1. I weigh in on Wednesdays and today I went up 1.8 lbs from last week. I'm really hoping it's water retention. I took my measurements last week and will take them again next week. I hope to see some changes there and in my clothes soon.

Kimberlymarie, congrats on your success! Did you lose the 20lbs in 30 days, or did you repeat the Shred? Good luck on your Valentine's Day goal.

Waist: 44 inches
Hips: 49 inches
R upper arm: 16 inches
L upper arm: 16 1/2 inches
R upper leg: 27 1/2 inches
L upper leg: 28 inches

Did D7L1 last night. Will do D8 tonight. I can't believe how much I can see my performance improving as I keep with this video. But I'm glad that I only have 3 more workouts before I switch to level 2. I'm beginning to get bored listening to the same commentary every day and look forward to something fresh.

Howdy!

I've been doing 30DS everyday (well, I missed a few days here and there) since late September and I LOVE it! I actually started to do it in August, but I was only doing it a few times a week until my body got strong enough to handle it daily.

I'm on level 2 and just now to the point where I can focus on technique rather than just trying not to die. HA!

My balance sucks and I'm having the most trouble with the entire 2nd strength set ("static lunges" and "pendulum lunges") and the "military presses and leg extensions". Any tips from others with bad balance? I feel like I'm cutting myself sort on those exercises because I spend a lot of time falling and getting back into position.

And yeah, I haven't lost much weight on the program either. I have lost SOME (like less than 5 pounds last time I checked) but I haven't bothered changing my ticker since it's so little. BUT I've totally lost inches. I haven't measured myself but I can tell by how my clothes are fitting. And my boyfriend has totally noticed. He tells me how much improvement he's seeing all the time. It's pretty awesome. :D

And sorry if my balance question has been answered earlier in the thread, I couldn't bring myself to read all those posts! I wonder if 30DS (or better yet, Jillian Michaels videos in general) should just have it's own subcategory? So people at different levels or with different questions can find stuff easier. Anyway, just a suggestion to the mods. :) We <3 Jillian.

Hi Metal Chik,

I'm on level 2 of 30DS. The static lunge and pendulum lunges got easier as I got stronger (I have a bad knee so that didn't help). For these two exercises maybe not sink too low in the lunge until you get stronger. That helped me. Your posture is also key, shoulders back chest up and out and draw your hips back so you are sticking out your toosh. It's gonna feel awkward at first, but think about the posture of ballet dancers and gymnasts, it helps.

The military presses with leg extention are difficult. I think this exercise just comes with practice. With all balance exercises though remember to tight your abs.

I also love your idea for separate subforum for Jillian's DVD's. No one beats you up like Jillian(I say that with much love and respect)

I have osteoarthritis in my knees, and found level one to be challenging to my muscles, but also on my joints. Is level 2 bad for anyone out there with knee issues as well?

Metal Chick
12-20-2009, 01:18 PM
Thanks for your suggestions, Jenn!

I never thought of sticking my butt out. I just tried it and I can see how it should help with the lunges. I'll be mindful of that when I work out later today.

=================================================
Okay, I tried it. Sticking my tush out did help with the static lunges but I'm still having a problem with the other two exercises. I guess I just have to go easy on those sets. It's kind of a shame because I feel like I'm half-assing it, but I guess if I'm not able to keep my balance I don't really have a choice! I wish I wasn't so tall. Maybe if I had a lower center of gravity...;)

I just got 30DS today and had to try it out. I used 5lb hand weights which may have been a bit too ambitious. My arms are literally shaking while typing this. Feels good though!

Now to force myself to stick with it! That's my biggest problem with everything. I'm going to aim for 10 days at each level and give myself Saturdays off.

I think I found Level 2 easier on the knees but more difficult from an endurance standpoint. And it's just so ridiculously hard on your center, shoulders and arms, IMO. Oh, but L2 does do some non knee friendly moves (like mountain climbers) that I modify.

Level 3 is hard on the knees with all that plyometrics (I just modify that as well).

I guess I modify a lot. LOL! ...but, I still lost! ;):D

It took me 3 months, but I'm finally noticing results! I was wearing size 12 pants that fit, and now I'm in size 10 pants that are lose in the rear and thighs but fit around the hips! If XMAS doesn't mess me up I should be in a size 8 by March!

I can't believe how much the Shred has helped me. I used to workout for hours and my weight never budged, now I do the Shred 5 times a week and I'm seeing results. I work out less and get better results! It seems so strange. When I have gone to the gym- the machines felt easy compared to the Shred.

I'm doing Level 3 as my regular workout. I like Level 3 the best. I still have nightmares about Level 2. I do some advanced moves and some modified in Level 3. I will always modify the Pike Crunches because I have a bad back. I'm comfortably using 5 lb weights now, and I still feel like the workout has kicked my butt when I am done. I was going to buy Boost Metabolism but they didn't have it at the store so I'm still doing the Shred. I know it works and I love Level 3 and the workout seems to fly by...

I'm about to do the Shred. I started with 5lb weights which was waaaay overestimating myself. I have a physical job that requires a lot of lifting, so I have pretty strong arms/back already. The 2lb and 3lb weights feel like nothing...but I'm going to have to use them to get me started with this workout I think.

So I started getting back on track on Dec 26th after not working out all of Xmas week and then blowing it big on the 24th and 25th. I did level 1 of 30DS with 5lb hand weights rather than the 3lbs I was using. O..M..G!!! I can feel the difference all over in my legs, chest, shoulders etc!! It's great! My next adventure is to try using the 5lb hand weights with No More Trouble Zones!!!! When you think about it, it's only pain! It'll go away eventually!

I just got this DVD for Christmas and did the first workout yesterday. It was good and I am looking forward to doing it again!

For those of you that have been "shredding" for a while, what have you been doing? Every other day? So many days in a row with rest days? I also try to run 3-5 times a week so I am just trying to figure out how I'll fit it all in :)

Metal Chick
12-30-2009, 03:54 AM
I did it only a few times a week when I first started. My body had to get used to it. In late September I started doing it every day. I do miss an occasional day, but I never plan it. For instance, in December I missed the 14th (because of an all-day event) and I missed Christmas Eve since that's when my bf's family celebrates Christmas. If I had the time or energy on either day after the festivities I would have went ahead and Shredded. But alas, I did not.

Other months I've missed because of bad menstrual cramps, a pulled muscle, being sick or just running out of time. But I won't let myself miss 2 days! NO MATTER WHAT! That gets my butt up and exercising most of the time because I think; "What if it's worse tomorrow?" Even if I can't give it my all, I Shred MOST days.

It's best for me to approach it like that though. You may be different. Any exercise is better than no exercise! :)

I usually Shred during the week. For some reason doing 20min Shred and adding on something else (for me it's BL Cardio Max, Power Sculpt and Weightloss yoga) keeps it fresh gives variety. On weekends I like to do No More Trouble Zones with BL WeightLoss Yoga (Jillian puts knots in my muscles the very sexy Bob takes them out) or if I'm brave and my downstairs neighbors are away, I'll put in Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism.

hi all! i'm into the third day of the shred. almost came on after the first day and say "wow, not bad" but i refrained. the second day i had a lot of knee pain, which is atypical for me. this morning it was in my thighs... which i can live with. i can see how i will need to add more into my exercise plan.. but this is a def. go-to because who can't find 20 minutes in their day? it's good to have something shorter to fall back on because, as stated before, something is better than nothing at all. i'm planning on keep on keeping on with the levels until i feel i've mastered one and then move on. has anyone here actually done thirty consecutives?

oh, and happy new year!

OMG I just did the shred for the first time now. I can barely lift my arms to type ! I read on a forum somewhere that people burn about 150-250 kcal per workout depending. Well, its worth the 30 mins and I think after 30 days I will get toned. I drew a heart on my calendar and hope to do this everyday.

Metal Chick

I did it as often as I could when I first started! But that still wound up only being a few times a week! lol Your body will get used to it. Just KEEP GOING! I was pretty out of practice when I first started, it depends on the individual I guess.

There have been days where I felt so bad I swore I wouldn't be able to do it, but I tried and GOT THROUGH IT! That always feels so much better than sitting on my butt feeling sorry for myself for being sick or hurt. :D

What have you got to lose by trying? If you really can't go on you can always turn it off and try again tomorrow.

Metal Chick
01-02-2010, 07:44 PM
You're welcome, Mikan! I LOVE how great it's made me feel too.

Sidrah: Nah, if you don't have weights I would say just ball up your fists (as if you're holding weights) until you purchase, or are strong enough for, weights. And try to focus on your movements. The great thing about weights is that they provide resistance, if you concentrate on keeping your muscles firm you will feel resistance even without weights.

I'm not sure if I worded that right. Maybe someone can explain that better? haha

Mikan
01-02-2010, 07:54 PM
I kind of felt the weights were fundamental for the strength portion. I think they use 5 lbs weights on the dvd, but for myself I bought some 3 lbs weights. I haven't exercised for a few years. My muscles are sore so maybe it would be better to start with the little 2 lbs ones. You need 2 if you don't want to modify the exercise. I got mine on sale at target for 8 bucks (2 bucks off). (I bought them 2 days ago)
My uncle pointed out something interesting when I told him I bought 3 lbs- he said that is pretty good and not to go higher. "A boxer just wears 8 oz gloves and look how strong their muscles get".

Welcome Mikan!

When I do Shred, I use 3lb hand weights as well. You will feel it! I've recently gone back to level 1 and increased my hand weights to 5lbs. Oooo feeling that! My thoughts are "we start where we start and work to stronger". We don't want to injure ourselves, that's not going to help us reach our goals.

ExerciseTV's website has a PDF file of a 30-Day Slimdown plan that utilizes the 30DS, NMTZ, and BFBM workouts. I'm going to try that. It requires working out 6x a week, with one day of rest. One of my mini-goals is to do this plan straight through.

Hopefully by the time I get through this plan and by the time spring rolls around, I'll be able to have more endurance on my bike and be able to deal with the hills.

I pushed myself to do this workout once and literally felt like I was going to die, lol. I am not an exerciser so I'm admittedly very out of shape, but this one was soo rough on me... I had to sit down for a couple of hours drinking water and feeling my heart beating out of my chest to try to get back to normal, and on top of that, I felt a bit sick too. I don't know if I'll ever try it again... oh, and this was day one level one. A sad tale! ;P

Ok, so since I was kind of on day 3 I decided to pick up "No more trouble zones" and "Banish fat boost metabolism" at costco so I could try out the exercise tv workout. Cupcake, I've only been working out a few days and I can kind of relate to you. I turned off No more trouble zones right in the middle and my heart is still beating fast. it was HARD!!! I think if you at least do what you can a little bit a day you will be able to handle these workouts, but it takes time.

Mikan,

I have both NMTZ and BFBM. They are both a$$kickers! But, you can start slowly and only do as many circuits as you can and work your way up to doing the whole dvd. I did that with both of them and now I LOVE em! I love having Jillian kick my a$$!!

Doing it slowly, circuit by circuit, is very motivating too. To see yourself get stronger and try just one more circuit today than you did maybe last week or so. Your gonna feel great about yourself!

Thank you, I am really happy to hear someone else decided to take on the harder ones too. I used to do karate when I was a teenager and the workouts were very similar. However, the break from exercise has made it impossible to finish the NMTZ workout all in one go. I will keep switching the dvds around and hopefully in a few weeks I can have enough endurance for that workout, because it seems like such an awesome and beneficial workout. I really like Jillian's no nonsense personality in these dvds. I bought a dvd about "yoga for weight loss" or something and it was really new agey and not intense at all. It was good for relaxing- just not weight loss or even toning. I really like that Jillian says, "If I am going to make you big promises you have to work hard", because I know this is the truth. I feel like its only been a few days and I feel so much better, my walk to school was WAY easier (it is about a mile), and maybe it is just in my head, but I see my tummy looks just a tad bit smaller already. hehe could just be the TOM switching up my water weight though.

I have a question for you ladies that have NMTZ and BFBM in addition to 30DS.

I've been wanting to try them, but I'm afraid that doing another workout INSTEAD of 30DS is cheating. Like it will set me back or something? I know it's weird. And I haven't been tough enough to try one IN ADDITION to my regular 30DS session yet.

Anyway, what do you guys think, will skipping a day of 30DS (LV2) for trying NMTZ or BFBM be an easy way out? Are those workouts just as tough or tougher? Are they total body with cadio, strength and abs?

I don't want to set myself back. I'm trying to be really diligent about exercising! I just thought it might be a good option for variety IF (and only if) it's just as effective. :)

Metal Chick, I just bought the NMTZ and tried it out and I can for sure say it is tougher than 30 DS. It is about 50 mins long. I have a feeling switching them up will work out all sorts of different areas and changing the levels will keep me from getting bored or over exhausting one area of my body all at once. but I'm no expert since I am totally new to exercising so please someone else come and answer this question !!

Hmm. It sounds like I will have to try NMTZ. If it's as tough as it sounds I don't think I'll be feeling guilty for doing it instead of the occasional 30DS session. Thanks for the feedback! :)
================================================== =
So I did NMTZ in place of 30DS last night. It was definitely an intense workout but I don't think there was enough cardio because my heart wasn't racing as fast as it usually is.

Is it okay that it's not as intense on the cardio because it's longer? Does it burn the same calories or did I totally screw myself?

I tried to go ahead and do 30DS afterwards, but I was too weak. I couldn't do the walking pushups and had to throw in the towel.

I think because you spend more time on the workout your still burning a lot of calories (maybe a little more). I tried the Banish fat boost metabolism one the other day and I think I felt the same as you do. I didn't feel my heart rate go up a lot, but I was tired at the end of the work out- whew.

Yeah, you're probably right. I guess I don't have to be DYING for it to be considered a worthwhile workout. haha

I think I'm afraid of Jillian. She's an Angry Goddess.

During my 30DS tonight I REALLY felt all those muscles I woke up with the NMTZ last night though! I will probably keep on with the 30DS, then maybe try BFBM next week sometime too.

I just finished Day two of 30DS, I couldn't do the push ups due to the pain in my arms yesterday but I manage to do the rest. She still kicked my butt but I can see it getting a little easier! I'm not sure how well I'll do after my 12 hour shifts luckily though I have 4 days on and 4 days off.

I just bought 30DS, some weights and even a new dvd player the other day and they are all still sitting in the packaging because I had an emotionally hard day yesterday and have been binging and crying ever since I got home from work last night. I want to start it today but I just don't know if I'm motivated.. :(

You can do it! I was in a funk for about 4 or 5 days, but I STILL made myself do it. Yesterday I was finally feeling better. I'm glad I made myself Shred all those days. I would have been mad at myself if I hadn't. We all have bad days or weeks. Every once in a while I get down, but when I trudge through I feel better about myself for staying committed to MYSELF and my goals.

You're only going to feel worse for not exercising! Exercising releases endorphins which are natural painkillers that promote an increased sense of well-being. And exercise can ease the gloominess of depression, reduce the tension associated with anxiety and promote relaxation.

Plus you will be able to pat yourself on the back for doing it instead of kicking yourself in the butt for not!

And welcome to all the new Shredders!!! You'll LOVE the way Jillian makes you feel and look.

i have been doing 30ds every other day .. today is my day off, but it will be day 6 of actual dvd day.. because im really stressed so im going to work out. only one thing.
if i dont eat anything before i work out. i get REALLY nauseous.
its 8pm and i havent eaten anything at all today.

its a HORRIBLE day for me. im living with a friend and she does nothing but scream at me. and always in front of a huge group of people! ugh!
ill admit im an emotional eater, but ill go from one extreme to another. ill either eat a lot. or not eat at al. because i feel like that, and exercising, are the only things i CAN control! I HATE IT!

Metal Chick - thank you for the words of encouragement. I took the first step and took the dvd player out of the box and hooked it up. Now I just need to put the dvd INTO the player lol... I sound really pathetic but I have to do baby steps right now or I'll do nothing at all.

hollywoodkatt - I'm the exact same way.. I go from not eating at all to overeating emotionally. I usually starve myself all day and then eat junk. I've been better in the past couple months about this up until this week. I need to figure out how to not let my emotions control ME!

Since there's no judgment here, I'll make this promise to you all. I am going to do the 30 ds tonight and report back when I've accomplished it!

I am so glad I found this forum. I am so excited to be doing the 30DS! I just completed day4 of level 1. It is sooo much easier now. I can't believe how much my endurance has increased. I still do the girlie pushups and the arm raises with side lunges at the end KILL me. But I can do it. I even did high jumps for the jump rope and butt kicks today. I hurt like you know what but I am SO proud of myself! I look forward to hearing of yalls progress as we do this SHRED together!

Hi MetalChick,
I have both NMTZ and BFBM and they are NOT the easy way out. I like NMTZ because of the circuits with the weights. Really blasts fat. BFBM is my difficult one, on this one I'm convinced that I can see Jillian sporting devil horns! Switching them out with 30DS is definately not taking the easy way out! She kicks you a$$!! NMTZ is total body and I've even found myself on some circuits switching out the 3lb weights for 5lbs!

Jillian is the Goddess of Pain!!(in a good way)

Hope this helps!

Mikan, did you get back on the wagon? I know PMS can totally wreck a few days for me! UGH The joy of being a woman!

I just did D5 L1 of the 30DS and WOWZA! It is getting easier but I guess I am trying harder to keep it challenging. My thighs hurt like ****. I am trying to wait to weigh and measure until D10. I even did 9 minutes of L2 today and I am SCARED! After the walk down pushup thingys I had to stop. I was pretty much keeping up though but terrible form!~ ha Oh well! It will get easier I guess.

Hope yall are doing great!

My goal: to keep shredding for the next 25 days without stopping!

Hi Club,
I do add on to 30DS with Biggest Loser Cardio Max, Power Scupt or Weight Loss Yoga. I like to mix and match those three with Jillians other dvd's NMTZ and BFBM! With 30 DS I also like to try to use heavier weights when it gets too easy. Currently I can do Level 1 with 5lbs rather than 3lbs and level 2 split between the two weights depending on how sore I am that day.

Happy Shredding!

here those of you that have done 30DS, look at this workout and tell me if you think its better or no. i CAN do this alone at the gym and I just am more apt to go to the gym then watch a video and wanted further thoughts on it.

Workout: 5min warm-up elliptical (treadmill is broken)
12-15 pushups
20 squats
12-15 bicep curls
20 squats
12-15 shoulder weight press
5 min walking lunges (Kill me)
12-15 chair dips
12-15 dumbbell row
12-15 standard lunges each leg
7 min crunches
25min elliptical (treadmill is broken)

I like the gym better, but have heard about such good results from 30ds. Any advice from those of you who have done it?

So, I want to hear your opinion about this.

I starter two days ago and I`m happy about it. What do you think about it?

So I did really good for the first week of being on the JillianMichaels.com website. I followed her meal plan strictly, but now I'm at the end of week two and the snack attacks are killing me. I think I may need to add more calories because I'm still nursing my daughter. I've done the 30DS 3 times total. Those of you doing it, did it take you a long time to get in the groove? Maybe it's just because I'm starting to exercise for the first time since having her and I've been pretty much a couch potato during those first 4 1/2 months. I'm also trying to train for a 1/2 marathon in March so I'm walking every other day and planning on doing the 30DS every other day with maybe one day taken off each week (Sunday?) Does this sound like a good plan or do you think I need to do the 30DS more than three times each week? I really want to get this weight off. I just put on some pants that were falling off of me before I go pregnant (I had lost 55 lbs b4 getting pregnant) and they fit me! I'm so mad at myself for putting all this weight back on. Help, I need some motivation!

I think if you're more likely to workout at the gym than with a video then it's automatically better! :D My only suggestion is maybe doing what she does and pair the arm exercises with leg exercises. She always says working arms alone doesn't burn enough calories. So like maybe bicep curls with the squats, shoulder presses with the walking lunges and the dumbbell rows with the standard lunges? Or something like that.

And mom2diabetics, When I started Shredding I only did it a few times a week until I could do it every day. Otherwise I just walked my dog. I was pretty out of practice. As long as you're being honest with yourself and doing it WHENEVER YOU CAN you will eventually be able to do it daily. :D

Hi All!

Great thread. I have done 5 days of the shred. It gets easer each time for me..meaning I can keep up. The push ups are the hardest for me. On Day 5 I was able to do the whole set of the first part but still not on the second part. I still cannot complete all the cardio in the middle and need to walk a bit. Those bycycle crunches kill me too. I am sticking with level one until i can hang with her girls!

It's funny. This looks so easy but once you get started it is work! I did' realize how I let my body go. I am looking forward to building my body up again. Woo hoo!

I just finished D1 of L2 today! It is sooooo hard!! I love this video though. I can keep up with Natalie for most of it but the last strength move I actually had to drop my weights because I could not lift my arms any more! You would think carrying around my 3 and 1 year olds everywhere the past few years would have given me a little advantage but NOPE it was awful! I don't remember if I thought L1 was this hard in the beginning but L2 is a killer!

I have done 11 days straight so I over 1/3 of the way done! I am going to do my measurements in the morning so hopefully I will see a little change!

So I jumped on board today with 30 day shred. I lost 10lbs about 3 months ago just by cutting calories and now am stuck again. Just spent a wee while back-reading all the posts on this topic. Gives me hope but also makes me scared, I think I am going to be whipped by 30DS! I am planning on starting tomorrow morning on Level 1 - given that it's now after 10pm I should probably get some sleep if I intend to start early!

I've been doing a mixture of Shaun T's hip hop abs and some Wii Fit, prior to that (back in 2008 when I lost 13 kg) I was using a treadmill and hip hop abs. Can't keep to the treadmill because I get bored so I'm hoping that 30DS will keep me interested!!

Any tips, hints, tricks, anything for a beginner!?

Well, I have survived 2 days, and today will be number 3. I was pretty sore yesterday, but took some motrin before I went to bed and woke up feeling pretty good! I have lost 2.7lbs in 3 days! I am thrilled, however I know that it is impossible to keep up that pace, but I will take it while I can. I found an ap on my itouch called lose it. It was a free ap, and I love it! When you start it, you put in your goal weight and and how much you want to lose per week. It then calculates your calorie intake for the day. You then track your foods and exercise. It give you a chart to show you were you are at for they day and month. It is so nice b/c it's small and easy to carry with you! It has a listing of tons of foods, and if they aren't there, you can input the calories. It kind of reminds me of tracking with WW, but so much easier! Have a great day everyone!

So I'm not actually going to start this morning as I thought I would. I am aching all over already for some strange reason this morning, so best not to aggravate it by starting what seems like a very intense workout for someone with low fitness like myself!

I think, since it's Wednesday and I like to do things in patterns, I'll leave starting 30DS til next Tuesday. It would be Monday, but Monday is a public holiday here in little old New Zealand and I will not have access to a tv all day - but I will be at a music festival for 10 hours so I'm guessing that will almost count as exercise!

I started the shred yesterday and Jillian almost killed me, in fact she may have killed me and I'm composing this from beyond the grave.

I could not get through the whole workout. I apparently have the upper body strength of a toddler so the push ups were a bust and during the jumping jacks I so wanted to duct tape my boobs down. It was hard and I didn't make it for all 20 minutes. :( I'm kinda sore today and wondering if I should I go on, I cannot imagine being able to get better at this...

So I bought the 30DS about a year ago, did it once and never took it out of the case again! But I have lost 45 lbs since then so I figure I can give it another go!

I already do a ton of cardio but am kind of a big baby when it comes to lifting weights... I am hoping that this will "tone" me up and make me less flabby!

My plan is to start tomorrow and try to go for the whole 30 days. Has anyone done it/is doing it for the whole 30 days? I know rest is important, but I feel like it's a slippery slope for me! I will also continue to do my normal cardio along with 30DS. I am really hoping to get these last 24 lbs gone by June and if I have to push myself to the extreme to do it, I will!

I'll let you know how the first day goes (I'm sure it won't be pretty!)

foresmewithlove - WOW - you have done SOOOO great already!! :carrot: Yes, when I started 30DS I did the whole 30 days in a row..but I had also been using light weights with other workouts previously. I would highly recommend you using light weights if your concern is toning, that is just what they do

Rest is important, but truly, her strength segments are so quick ( 3 minutes ) that is why I think it's okay to do it every day.

in my opinion, if you added 30 DS to your regular cardio you will be a hottie (if you aren't already :D ) before June!

I am on Day 25 and I haven't died yet! I can't believe how much my strength has improved. I was not working out in any shape or form before I started and in fact, have worked out more this year than all of 2009! ha That is so sad but so true! I do feel like I am going to die through the workouts still though. Especially the first few days starting a new level. I have not weighed or measured since Day 11. I was going to do it before starting level 2 but it was my time of the month and I already felt crappy so I decided to wait until I finish. I have lost 8 pounds and 5 inches in the first 11 days though so I know this works! I love this video!

My MIL started it shortly after me and has lost 20 pounds! She is just barely overweight, just a little thick in the middle. She is on Day 15. And she's close to 60 years old. Whenever I want to quit, I just think of her! ha

The only downside to doing to 30 days straight is that my knees and sometimes ankles hurt pretty bad. They are very sore. It is pretty high impact but I am not in serious pain so I am going to keep it up!

I am on day 20. My butt is no longer like a pancake. My stomach is smaller as well as my back chub. People are noticing the changes in my body. The husband is liking it. :)

AND I feel terrific! I am happier and more positive during the day. Also, when I have a stressful work day, my stress goes away after the workout.

I was very out of shape before this DVD - no muscle strength!

Hi everyone,

I'm new here; my name is Allison and I've been on the 30 Day Shred for about 7 days so far. I really feel it. I feel like my arms are so much tighter.

I've been working out consistently for 5 months or so, but didn't see the results I wanted to. I gained some weight over the last 24 months because of moving, poor eating choices, stress, no exercise, etc. Anyway, when I first lost the weight I ran an hour a day and rested once a week, and the weight kind of just melted off. However, it didn't happen this way this time. It seemed like I hit a plateau, so I somehow found 30DS through Youtube at first, I think.

I was going through the thread, and I just wanted to add some of my opinions: For those who don't have weights, I just add soup cans but I choose the biggest ones so that their weight is more significant. However, I've found that if you follow Jillian's advice in the video to squeeze and do it slowly, you'll feel the burn even with the regular soup cans.

I also add 22.5 min of HIIT cardio on my treadmill every day.

However, on days when I come home late, I choose one or the other - the video or cardio. So far I've only skipped one day of exercise, and that was because I got home at 11pm.

I don't like to weigh myself. So I don't know, but once I fit back into my size 4 dress, I'll know that I've reached my goals.

Anyway, I'm glad to be here and read this page for inspiration. Hope to hear more from you guys.

Hi everyone!
I tried to go through all 500+ posts to see if my questions were answered...and I did get the answer to one question about not doing it everyday...I can do it 3 times a week, and I can still feel it!

My other question is that I just cannot jump! I tried doing the jumping jacks for as long as possible, but *ouch*! It's simply much too hard on this old body, so I have modified, doing low impact.

Anyone else?? Will I still get results? Or should I find another fitness video that is high intensity, low impact? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I did day 1 today.. I can NOT do push ups! I felt like a total bum. And the jumping jacks hurt my boobs, so I need a new workout bra I guess.

I could definitely feel the burn and I hope I can stick with it!

I need to get back to working out -I have taken the last 3 days off due to a very hectic schedule. I leave for work at 7:00 and I just can't make myself get up in the mornings to work out and then when I get home at 10:00, I am ready for bed. Last week I did the 30DS Sunday - Thursday. I am back at it tonight when I get home. It has only been 5 days, and like I said haven't done it since Thursday, but I can start to tell my pants are getting looser and I may need to buy a new belt!

Started day one today. It was really hard and I really cant do push ups eather. But still I feel happier today than I remember being for a long time and I think that is because I was exercising. I don't think I've exercised since I was 15yrs.

So I'm looking forward to doing day two tomorrow :)

Hey everyone!
I'm new to this forum although I've been reading it for a while. I'm Norwegian, so not sure my stats are right. Anyway. I'm def not overweight or in medical need of losing weight. However I feel so weak and out of shape, and I find this thread inspiring. I've actually tried the 30 day shred before, and I stopped for some reason once I got to lever 2. But now I'm motivated to give it another go, and I hope that I can stick with it!

Well, today was my first day. I was so excited when I woke up. And then I did the exercise.

Ha! It's not as dramatic as all that. I had to stop a few times mostly becasue of the cardio stuff. I am NOT used to that much cardio. I can't remember the last time I was that out of breath.

Otherwise, it was good. I plan to do it every day. Level 1 for 10 days and so on. I'm achy, but more than anything else, I'm REALLY tired. Way way tired. SO tired! I'm betting that's from the cardio upheaval. Hopefully I won't be so tired as the days go on.

Thanks!

I can't do the jumping jack's either. I either just keep moving by dancing or jogging in place. Or I keep my mini trampoline nearby and can do jumping jacks on it. I think you'll still get good results. The main thing is to keep your heart rate up.

Today was Day One of the 30 Day Slimdown plan using the workouts from 30DS, NMTZ, and BFBM. I was already sore from shoveling the driveway on Saturday from yet another snowstorm, so I suspect I'm going to really feel this tomorrow, but NO EXCUSES. I've made enough already.

I'll give myself a mini-reward on each scheduled day off for sticking with the plan. Hopefully I see some tangible results like you guys!

Just finished day 10 of the 30 Day Shred. I have a question about the last ab workout for level 3. How are you supposed to do it correctly? I have to do the modified version. I think I lend wayyy too much strength to my bent leg. Can someone clarify the hip raise and the right way to do it?

Elen I can't really do the jumping jacks either. My first day yesterday was bad because my boobs hurt too much. So today I doubled up the sports bras and it was much better. I am still too out of shape to really do them. I do a hop back and forth on each leg type thing, but I make sure I keep moving. The butt kicks are pretty tough too.

I just want to be able to do a stinking push up!

Today was my day two. And it was better than yesterday because I knew what was coming.

Question - I have a yoga mat because I am on a hard floor but it still hurts my back and knees. Anyone have a better suggestion? The knee push ups are killer because of that.

I've had my second day today. Things went better than yesterday. I was able to do more of the cardio, but I'm still stopping through some of it. It makes me wonder if I really do have asthma (I was diagnosed when I was a kid but I always assumed it was just because I was out of shape). The problem with the cardio isn't that it's hard. It's that I run out of breath so easily while doing it. I will be heaving after just one round of jumping jacks + jump ropes. I feel like I could do the moves more, except that I need to stop and catch my breath.

Does that happen to anyone else?

Since I use the mini trampoline to reduce the impact of the jumping jacks, I also use it to do the push ups. I lay over it and put half of my body on the floor with the lower part of my body on the trampoline. So, the trampoline takes the impact instead of my knees. I also do push ups at my counter. I stand back and little and put my hands at the edge of the counter and pushup. I do the same thing at the playground when I take my kids. I just find something that's about chest level to me and pushup against it. I figure that eventually I'll build up to be able to do more "real" pushups.

Day 3 was today and I could actually do more of the jumping jacks.. is it crazy that the third day of this could show improvement?

Still suck at the pushups, but I can make it throught the whole vid without stopping so that is a plus!

Wendy - good idea with the trampoline! doubt Dh would let me get one though :( I am still in the process of getting new tennis shoes!

Last night I moved up to Level 2. I had done it before, but wasn't ready. I did lower my weights though to 3lbs instead of the 5lbs that I was using for Level 1, but will work my way up to 5lbs. Level 2 left me a bit achy, but not too sore. It's a challange though. I hope to see more improvements.

In the spirit of keeping everyone motivated! I completed day 5 of level 1. Seriously on Day 1, I couldn't walk and day 2 was not much better-the stairs were excrutiating! However, stick with it! I had to take a day off after the second day but then went right back and did day 3-happy to report that the legs recovered AND I completed the ENTIRE work out including those nasty bicycle crunches! I feel like nothing can stop me!!

Hi Everyone,

I've been doing 30 day shred DVD almost every day for 3 months now. I stayed on level 1 for about a month, and I did level 2 for 2 months. I just started level 3. I have lost 16 pounds since I started exercising and counting calories 3 months ago. I know Jillian says that if you do the same exercise each day your body adapts and you see less results.

I absolutely love Jillian on Biggest Loser. What other Jillian Michaels fitness DVDs are the similar circuit training style that would be good to move on to after finishing level 3 of the 30 day shred?

Thanks!

I just did NMTZ and holy crap! I'm sore now. I'm going to really feel that when I wake up (I did this at 2AM when I got home from work). With the exercise and the constant snow shoveling (just had snow twice in the past few days and have a major snowstorm predicted for Friday - Saturday), I'm not going to be able to move at all next week.

Well, I am still at it. Today is day 30! I have not missed a day. My knees hurt really bad but I put a heating pad on them for 15 minutes when I go to bed each night. Yesterday I did the BL Last Chance Workout first and then the Shred and I am pretty sore today! If you want check out my blog, google shredmamashred and its the third result. I can't put in the link here for some reason.
For those of you that are having problems, I modified alot of the exercises at first too. I could not do one real pushup and had trouble doing the modified too. Now, I can do (not great form but) 10 man pushups! I was so out of shape and feel like I am a different person. I am so impressed with my improvement. I love this DVD so much, I feel like I don't want to just stop at 30 days! I weigh and measure again tomorrow so I will keep yall informed! Good luck and keep on Shredding!

I'm on day 4 today and managed to do 3 (on the knees) pushups. It's really amazing how much fitter I feel, it gets easier every day to pick up and carry my 2yr. old nephew around. Hi everyone!

I finished day 15 of the 30 DS! So I'm about half-way through! I feel better, albeit sore every day! I haven't been doing the traditional 10 days per level, since I found level 1 kind of easy. So depending on the day, I either do level 1 mixed with level 2/3. Or level 2/3 with 25 min of cardio.

I've found that my legs FEEL much leaner. My clothes fit a TINY bit better, and my abs are ever so slight firmer. But it seems to be working. I love that this video doesn't require much equipment; it's fast and it gets straight to the point. Anyway, I'd love to hear more feedback from others!

I just completed Day 6. I had to skip a day (Saturday) given that we were slammed with a record-breaking snowstorm and I was outside for almost 2 hours trying to dig up the driveway. It was back to 30DSL1 today and it almost feels like old hat. I do see a difference in my endurance compared to Day One. I just wish I saw a difference in my clothes...

Just completed my first day of this.

Holy cow.

From reading this thread, and knowing my own abilities, I thought the first work out would be pretty easy for me. Especially since I've been jogging on the treadmill.

Boy was I wrong!! Jillian has me sweating harder than I have in ages!! And it went by so quick!

Love this workout! I'm gonna try and get my mom to do it with me!!

Oh, I didn't have hand weights either so I used my dog's chew toys. They were confused! haha

Hi everyone!

I just finished day 19/20 of the 30 DS. And for some reason it was really hard today to get through level 3. Although it is usually hard, I've never had this feeling before. Did anyone else hit a break wall while doing this? It was like I wanted to throw up and I couldn't breathe. I've done level 3 at least 5 times before, and have never had an experience like this. I usually sweat, get out of breath, but never feel sick. I persevered, though. I stopped the tape, and relaxed for an hour or so and began again. I still felt a little bit sick, but got through the tape at a slower pace than usual.

Just a little update!

Hi everyone! I've been lurking around this forum and, after much deliberation, have finally decided to join! First let me introduce myself. I'm a 17 year-old girl, 5'2'' tall, who currently weighs about 115 pounds. So I'm not really looking to lose a lot of weight (like 5-8 vanity pounds). I've been lifting weights 3x a week for about a year, and I ran cross country for my school. About 5 weeks ago I came across the 30DS and this thread, and I decided to try it. But, literally the day I order it from Netflix, I'm practicing for a school related activity, and I dislocate the patella(kneecap) in my left knee. No ligaments were torn, but the tendon on the inside of my knee still hasn't completely healed. I've continued exercising my upper body,, and I've been doing some mild thigh exercises that my doctor recommended. I want to do the shred once I'm fully healed, but I'm a little worried about all the squats and lunges. Has anyone with a similar injury encountered problems with the shred? Any recommendations?

Thanks, and keep up the good work!

Hi again,

I've missed the last two days due to schedules and my birthday and started up again, so technically I'm still on day 20. I started on level 1. I'll be on level 2 tomorrow and level 3 by Family Day.

Legs look tighter. But still too scared to weigh myself. Hopefully on our way!

Hi All! I just went out and bought the 30DS. I watched it and think I can handle the workout, maybe with some modifications. I'm determined to do this once a day with the exception of the 26th and 27th when I will be traveling. I plan to walk 30 minutes those days.

I'd really like to lose some inches in my waist and hips. Hope this helps!

I'll check in to keep myself motivated and to give my results as well.

So I just did Level 1 Day 1 yesterday and I'm going to do Level 1 Day 2 now in a few minutes. Everyone was telling me how HARD it was but the thing is I didn't find it hard at all :S I didnt even sweat that much. Now maybe it's because I've been doing Jillian Michaels Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism everyday. Now that really KILLS me, the sweat bes pouring off me. I'm going to do the shred everyday and probably BFBM every other day,

A lot depends on the shape you are in. I am not in such good shape and level 1 kicks my butt. Lol! I am not doing this everyday. My dh works out with me and it bothers his knees. So usually do WATP. I did the last two days while he was gone. I gotta say it hurt my knees as well. Don't know if I will be able to keep it up.

Hello People!
I love 30 Day Shred! It is the best!
Not really doing it everyday, switching between other Jillian videos too which I find has been helping my endurance when I do do 30 Day Shred.
On Friday I did Level 3 and only stopped for a break ONCE! For 2 seconds then yelled at myself to keep going :) being my own Jillian.
Keep on keeping on people, this video is the coolest!

This video def. ranks up there as the hardest I have ever done. I am glad that people are posting there results here, it is very inspiring! I have completed my 4th day and I am already "firming" up a little bit. Anyone else have problems with the Jumping Jacks???? They seemed so easy to do in grammar school! I am glad how hard Jillian pushes us through the video. I like how she says the video is equal to "hours of phoning it in @ the gym." Anyone know how true that is? I suppose it is different from person to person, I know that I am sweating a whole lot more doing this video vs. than just going to the gym!:p

So today I finished Level 1, Day 10. I expected it to get easier, but today was a killer (I went for a run beforehand, so I think that's why I was so exhausted!). But I will embark on level 2 tomorrow! It will be nice to do something different!

So in the past 12 days since I started doing I haven't lost any weight, and I haven't measured myself lately BUT I have felt a lot thinner. I just woke up one morning and could really see a change, so I guess it must be working!

I was doing 30DS for two weeks and stopped, started going to the gym so that I could do some weight training. I included cardio (walking and running) and Ive been doing good. But when I measured myself I noticed I lost more inches doing 30DS than this weight training and cardio. So I started 30DS again this morning and though I would be better able to keep up...NOT!! I was panting and screaming in agony. I like the results I get with 30 day shred.

Hey all! I just got my 30DS in the mail today... been looking around these parts to see what others think. I'm super excited to start (is it bad that i'm not nervous despite how hard people say it is???). I'm worried, though, that I won't see results. My problem is this: I know I won't make major adjustments to my eating habits. They aren't the worst, but I know I could make changes here and there. Maybe by exercising regularly I'll start to change my eating habits as well. We will see... I just like wings and beer! :^:

Anyway.... I would love support from all of you because it looks like you all are doing an amazing job! Can't wait to get started!!

Question -

Does the 30 day shred have a lot of jumping around in it? My house is very very old and I worry about my floors.

Rashomon
02-24-2010, 03:58 AM
It has a fair amount. Jumping jacks, running in place, mountain climbers, jumping rope (without the rope), skaters (hopping side to side from foot to foot), oblique twists (jumping while twisting the body side to side), and so on.

I did L1 & L2 back to back tonight. That was a killer. My legs were shaking on the strength moves on L2. But that's a testament on how my endurance has improved. I couldn't have even thought of doing that a couple of months ago. But I think doing NMTZ or BFBM was easier compared.

julie99s

I got this a week ago. I'm trying to get back on the bandwagon starting with exercise. My eating habits aren't bad after having had a gallbladder attack a few months ago, so I'm starting to work out again then I can tone up my diet. That being said, I had a baby 8 months ago so it's been some time since I've exercised. Thank goodness I'm nursing, because now I'm 2 lbs under my pre preg weight.

All that to say I gave this vid a go this morning, obviously stage 1, made it through all of 10 minutes and felt like puking. Please tell me it gets just a little easier? lol

Hey guys,

I finished day 30 today!!!!!! Weight loss - mm, I don't know. I don't really weight myself that often. Clothes fit better, specifically my sweaters. The backfat has reduced considerably. My size 8 jeans fit better, and I don't feel like throwing up at the end of level 3. On off days of work/school, I can do a Level 1 + Level 2/3. I think I can do both Level 2 and 3 in one day, but because of the high impact on my knees, I haven't tried it.

Really, I love this video, because I always can convince myself to do it and it's short and 9 times out of 10 I break a sweat. Even running on my treadmill which faces the television set, sometimes I can't force myself to do it.

I still plan on doing 30 DS or 30 min of cardio, interspersed with my new regiment, which is P90X. I'll post on the other thread what happens with that video. I'm going on vacation in August, maybe even before that to Switzerland to visit my best "au pair" friend, and I want to look good in a bikini. So I have tons of motivation!

I just finished level 1 day 1. Holy crap! LOL. I felt like quitting about 3 minutes in, but I didn't! I did 95% of it. Only part I couldn't do was all the push ups. I can do 2 modified push ups. That's it. So I Pushed myself as much I could and then did jumping jacks while they finished up their pushups.

I'm also taking a picutre every single day of march and I'm going to do 30DS 6 days a week, possibly 7. Then when I'm done this month I can make one of those quick slideshows that will show every picture over the past 30 days. :)

I use soup cans right now, or water-filled Perrier bottles.

I think 5lbs are great! I should also buy them. I tried them in my gym class today, and they're a good weight. I also suggest maybe those weights that you can add on to them, so when you improve you can increase.

Thanks for the reply AllisonR. The water bottles were a great start for me and worked wonders @ for the 1st month. Since then I have ordered 5 lb. neoprene weights and it has really stepped up my game for the 30 day shred! I think the water bottles I were using was very close to 5lb each (maybe closer to 4lb or even 3lb) and now with the 5 lb weight I am really REALLY feeling it. Using that much bigger with the weight has also helped me doing the cardio section, because now I look forward more to doing THAT section now since now I think doing the weights/strength section is the hardest for me. Before when I was using the water bottles for weights I thought the cardio was the hardest--now its switched I think the weight training is the hardest. maybe once I get strong enough I will increase the weights even more, PROBEBLY NOT FOR A LONG TIME THOUGH maybe a few months even :P :carrot::carrot::carrot:

I've been looking at various workout videos from CLX, P90(x), and insanity. I am beginning to understand that I am not "fat" really I just need to be toned up and lose inches not weight. I hope this program will work for me. I am 5'5'' tall and weigh about 132-130. So I am within my normal BMI, I just want to get rid of the slight jiggles off my mid section.

So I am going to give it a try. I am not BL fan but the results and the intensity might be right up my alley since my lifestyle is pretty much active. ( work at a warehouse and help out at a horse farm)

Morning everyone. I am new here - in fact, this is my first post - and recently started the 30DShred. I've attempted it before but never got past Day 2. Today will be Day 5 and I have to say, it IS getting easier and I do feel really good.

I see this thread has somewhat ceased since March. Is anyone doing this workout right now? I'd love to get some feedback, as well as see before and afters of those who have completed the 30DS before (if they're available - I'd search but these threads are very long).

Any advice or help would be fabulous! TIA!
