We are about Fitness and Quality of Life after 50...
We are about Fun and Friendship after 50...
We are the Golden Girls...

There is Value in us
There is Power in us
There is Wisdom in us
And Laughter....
We are a rainbow of unique wonders,
There is love in us.
(poem by Dorothy Holmes)

Tell us a little about your life, family and goals. What keeps you motivated? What is the best thing that's happened to you since you passed the 50 mark?
Friends laugh, cry and stand by each other, we'll be that to you!

It's good to learn something new every day, duh! I just closed the May thread by accident. I was fooling around trying to post the picture of the baby rabbit when I saw a new feature on the bottom. It was to automatically close the thread after posting, I thought great! I didn't realize that's how you permanently shut down the thread, I thought only the moniters like (Linda, Meow) could do that.
Sorry everyone!

:)Good Morning,
That was pretty exciting trying to figure out what was going on with the closed thread, mostly out of nosiness. That's how exciting my life is. How funny. I'm glad I'm not the only person who does stuff like that.:D
Bobbi, Benjamin sounds adorable. It must be fun to watch him play.
Lynn, How exciting to get below 150. What a wonderful feeling.:bravo: I'm glad to be here to share that moment with you.

I don't have plans for the weekend because I'm staying away from people until Monday, although I think my problem is allergies. I started taking Clarinex and my coughing went away. I have been busy setting up my routine to stay out of the house.

Hey Bobbi,

Congratulations on learning something new.

Any chance you can learn how to pop the May Accountability thread up to the sticky area?

Sorry Lynn...I don't think that's anything we can do but I contacted 3FC's and asked them to do it.

Hey Bobbi,

Congratulations on learning something new.

Ha, ha, ha. I'm always doing stuff like that. Bobbi you're in good company. The bunny sounds so sweet. We have little red squirrels that come to our yard and I've named them before, especially when we had the bird feeders and they'd come and eat from them.

WTG, Lynn. Hope that bounce loses it's elasticity and stays down.

 Jada. Hope you feel better soon. I'd like to get out of the house more often too. Hope you are successful with that one.

Today I weighed in and lost a pound and I'm finally in the 130s again. This time it's the last time I go up in the 140s. I'm turning my back on 140 forever!!! But that being said it was my free food day so I don't dare step on the scales until next week. I'm full until tomorrow.

Nothing too much planned for the weekend. I had mom out this afternoon for a visit to the nursing home and then we went for a little drive. Tomorrow, Mother's Day, we are going shopping for a wedding gift for DS. Mom wants to buy him a blender. There's one half price (49.99) at Canadian Tire and if they have any in stock we'll get that one for her. It's a 2 day sale and the chances of any being in the store are slim to none but we'll have a look anyway.

I wore a new size 10 suit today. It's one I've had in my closet all winter waiting for warmer weather to wear it. It is white and I know the rules for wearing white but according to Martha Stewart you can now wear white any time of the year and if it's good enough for Martha it's good enough for me! :D The only thing wrong was the weather--definitely not warm today. The wind is very chilly.

This morning when we woke up there was no water to be had anywhere in town. There was a water leak in the main water line and the town was fixing it. We never got water back in our part of town until 2 pm. I was up last night wanting a drink of water around 2 am and the water was turned off then so it was about 12 hours without water. DH went to his mother's place and got water there. We live on the top of a hill where water won't run but his mom is at sea level almost in the bay. She had a trickle coming out of her taps so we got a couple of buckets to tide us over. We ate dinner on paper plates to save on water and washing. Fortunately, I had taken a shower just before I went to bed last night but I went to sleep with wet hair thinking I'd wet it down again this morning in the shower. Talk about bed head. I applied a liberal amount of mousse before I tried to style it but it never really went back where it should have.

Well, that's my life as I know it. Have a good day everyone.

Hi everyone I hope everyone has a HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!! I got a call today and they had to put my Dad in intensive care this afternoon. His kidneys are shutting down and his blood pressure was 90/40 . We're packiing as fast as we can but now it is for sure not fast enough.. would appreciate all thoughts and prayers. This is a picture Tim took this evening and it pretty much sums it up----- I'm tired, both mentally and physically.
Take care everyone.

Good Morning ladies,

Happy Mother's Day! I hope everyone has a wonderful day today. Mother and I are going to try to go to church today, it will be great if we can.

Lynn, that's so sad about your friends granddaughter, I'm so sorry. And, congrat's on getting below 150.

Karen31, so sorry to hear about your dad. Good luck with getting the move done soon.

Jada, maybe you can just enjoy the aroma of the bakery.......and I bet once you indulge a few times, you'll just pass it on by. I hope you enjoy your new digs.

Bobbi, Benjamin sounds so cute, that must be something to see.....lol. Hope your grandson continues to improve, that must have been really hard for him to go through.

Isabella, congrat's on getting back in the 130's.......and you're right, they say white is ok for anytime of the year.......but I think it depends on what it is too. I'm sure your white suit was perfect.

I'm finally getting things put where they need to go here. I worked yesterday on my dining room/sewing area, that's where I had put everything that I didn't know what I was going to do with. I took things over to friends house for yard sale, and I made 60.00 which was great. I didn't have much left, and will give the rest to Helping Hands.

I haven't done bad with my eating. I try to eat right most of the time, and if I goof up once in a while, then at least it's not all the time. I'm still at 167, so haven't lost anymore, but haven't gained either. I haven't been doing my walking and my exercising, but plan to start back in the morning with my exercising before my bus route. I have two bulging disc in my upper back, and working with my weights a couple of times a week keeps them in place and the pain completely goes away. I can tell by the pain now that I need to get started back......SOON! I'm sure I've moved too much furniture by myself......you know, doing what women do...rearranging.......lol.

I'm doing really well mentally, so glad to have made this decision. We have our office building under contract, so that is going to relieve some of the pressure from bills, and give us each a bit of cash to stick in reserve. I'm going to treat myself to some new eye glasses, and then the rest will be for emergencies.

Ok, going to quit my babbling, hello to all that I missed, and everyone have a great day in your neighborhood, wherever it might be!

Susann

Good Morning!
I hope everyone had a nice Mom's day. I ate very light except for the desserts, too tempting! I'm going to count all my calories this week because of my bad sunday. How'd everyone else do?
We had our first Oriole this morning, last week I put the grape jelly out and filled our Oriole feeder for our returning friends. I sliced a fresh orange and put that out too. I love watching them!
I use grams more than anything when weighting my foods and I ran across this last week and thought I'd lost it. I found it filed under my saved documents, hope it helps some of you.
Sorry, my copy/paste is still not working right, I'll try posting it later.

My Mother's Day was very nice. My DS is going to take me to Red Robin Gourmet Hamburgers on Saturday for a late celebration. It's always nice to hear from my sons. When they first moved from home, I had to call them.
I've been working on my computer most of the time. It keeps shutting down on me, so I think I need to buy a new one. My computer is nine years old. Everything I've tried has not worked.:comp: I'll keep trying.

Hello all. I've been busy the last few days. Sunday I went shopping in a snowstorm (yes, you read right!) and almost went off the road. But I got home safe and sound. Monday I waited for the snow to melt (ha, ha) and dipped candles for DS's wedding. They have little flower candles that won't burn long enough because the base was so small so I dipped them all (about 70 candles) until the bases were bigger. Now they'll burn for about 2- 2 1/2 hours without sputtering out. I ruined a t-shirt with wax but it was an old one from last year and a cheap one too so I'm not upset. Today I wrote out the wedding menu that will be at each place setting. Here's the picnic themed buffet menu:

Garlic Fingers & Donair Sauce

Pigs-in-a-Blanket & Dipping Sauce

Good Morning!
Isabella...are you cooking all that yummy food yourself? Nawwwww, you would have to have a half dozen Isabellas to do that. I see everyone isn't vegetarian like you. How are you going to unwind after the wedding, it's been so many months preparing. You are a very good mom!
Jada...were you let down last night about who won the 'Biggest Loser'? I wanted Mikey to win, but I'd settle for Tara who has never been below the yellow line and won all the challenges. Helen's face now shows her age but that's the problem with losing too much weight, it usually shows up in a haggert looking face. I wouldn't have bet on a 48 year old winning over an 18 year old, go figure.
Hi Rosey, Karen3 (what are you doing, haven't heard from you lately),
Susann!
Lynn...my hubby detailed my car a couple of days ago. Since we live out in the country, mine gets really dusting inside.Who did you want to win last night?
I found a great recipe for carrot cake with pineapple this morning, I'm going to bake it now.
Catch ya all later.

Hello all,

Usually there is something on my e-mail whenever someone makes a post on here. There hadn't been any and I kept thinking ~ my, the thread is slow ~ where is everybody (even though I had been to the thread and seen the posts). Finally it came to me ~ I had posted on the first May GG thread, but not this one, so there wouldn't be anything in my e-mail ~ Duhhhhhhh. What a goof ball.

Maybe I am in some kind of sugar induced fog. I have been having the hardest time lately. My weight is slowly creeping up. Several things I think affecting that. (Forgive me if this gets long ~ I seem to lack the ablility to be brief when I share things). :(

I had been trying to do without the artificial sweetner. Back along I used to use Equal, but read bad things about it ~ one being that it caused arthritis like symptoms. I had been feeling so stiff in my joints, so I quit using it. I don't know if it really helped or was my imagination that I felt less stiff. I began using Splenda instead and had been using that for probably 5-6 years. I had stiffness from time to time then ~ kind of like flare ups of my arthritis, but lately, it seems like the stiffness is there all the time. So, I thought maybe Splenda might be bad for me too. So, for about a month now, I have been doing with out that and just using sugar to sweeten my tea and coffee. I think that is part of my weight creeping up. Then.....

I went to the pantry shelf the other day to get something for snack for my grandson and found a package of double stuff oreos and some tubes of pringles. At first I left them alone, but then just knowing they were there, I just kept thinking and thinking about them and finally gave in to temptation and over the course of a few days consumed 2 tubes of pringles and the whole package of oreos. I asked my husband that if he buys that stuff to please put it somewhere else so I don't see it. Cookies and chips are my weakness.

Yesterday when my grandson was over I went to the pantry and there were more cookies (Keebler, some that were like the girl scout thin mints). After a while, I got into those. I am so frustrated. I asked my husband again to please not put the stuff where I would see it. He basically said that I was the one trying to lose weight and that I needed to figure out how to just not get into the stuff. Grrrrrr.

I have got to figure something out. I don't feel good when I eat a bunch of junk. Despite all the self talk and lectures to myself and knowing that it is not good for me, I am struggling to do what I know I need to do. I feel so stupid, because I know it is not good for my health and I do it anyway.

Guess I'd better get off ~ gotta do the before work nap.

Thank you for reading/listening.

Take care

Bobbolink

Glynne.......Sorry, that was my flub up on accidently closing the May thread. As far as stiffness and arthritis, I have that every day and never heard of it caused by artificial sweetner. I don't use too much Splenda anymore, I started to sweeten my 8 glasses of water with a package of lemonade kool-aid, lemon rind/juice, two bags of brewed decaf green tea and some Stevia instead of Splenda. I haven't notice any difference in my stiffness. I'm not stiff when I walk around, only when I sit for awhile. I thought it was just old age:dizzy:
I had been feeling so stiff in my joints, so I quit using it. I don't know if it really helped or was my imagination that I felt less stiff. It doesn't take much for the pounds to creep on and I do the same thing with no-no foods I have in the house for Bruce. If it's out in plain sight, I eat it. Or somethings I'll freeze it but that doesn't always work either. Last night I was hungry for something chocolate and I ate a slice of frozen chocolate cake right out of the freezer. And I wonder why I can't stay at the same weight?

I'm such an idiot. I can't believe my computer has survived nine years. I found out the problem with my computer is the lint caught in the air filter under my computer. I didn't even know there was one there. :comp:

I read an interesting article yesterday at the library, written by two doctors, on weight loss. They said there's no such thing as will power. The brain is stronger than we are. If we want to lose weight, we have to change our environment. If you buy a new boat and it's in rough waters, and you don't want your boat ruined, you have to move the boat to calmer waters. That's what I did yesterday, I moved my "boat" out of the home. They also said to eat the same thing for breakfast, lunch and snack to eliminate making food choices, and then be creative with dinner.
Right now, I'm taking care of computer stuff, and getting my food ready for the day, and then I'm heading for the gym, and visit family.
I wanted Ron to win on "The Biggest Loser", but he didn't, so I didn't care who won. Helen does look older. I have a younger sister who's thin, but I look younger, because her small wrinkles really stand out. My fat fills out the small wrinkles. I don't tell her that though. My grandmother was overweight and even at 90 she didn't have wrinkles, I think because fat fills in the wrinkles. Just my thoughts. When she went into a nursing home, and lost weight, she began to show her age. I'd still much rather be thin, for less stress on my joints. :goodscale Hugs, Jada

Hello everyone.

Bobbi, I'm cooking a good deal of the food and freezing as much as I can beforehand. I told DH to stop me if he sees me trying to freeze potato salad. I'll have an army of people staying here at the house for the wedding so I'm going to put them to work with the sandwiches, vegetables, etc... The fiance's mother is not an excellent cook but she'll be doing some of the sandwiches and cookies and cooking a turkey. She makes really good lemon pie so she's doing the lemon pie tarts as well. I've cooked for crowds for years with church functions and worked my way through college in a cafeteria and bakery so I guess I'll have everything figured out.

Susann, of course you're invited to the wedding. Everyone is invited and all the food will be virtual so no calories. :D

Jada, Jada, Jada. You've got to stop talking about the Biggest Loser. I almost read the spoiler for myself tonight. Ha, ha. I'll get the rebroadcast on a local channel tonight.

Gayle, I'm right with you on the junk. I'll eat it and enjoy it and then have so many regrets. I did it last night at a bridal shower for my niece. I did so well the first hour and a half and then all resolve gave way and I dived into to the goodies. What a table of desserts there were besides lots of munchies before the lunch was spread out. My niece received many nice gifts and $600 in lieu of gifts. I guess her mother paid us all back in sugar.

Today I've eaten very lightly to try and counteract last nights indiscretions. I don't know if that will help but it soothes my conscience if nothing else.

I got up this morning and did housework and washing most of the day. I can finally see the top of my dresser and bedside table. I cleaned mirrors and light fixtures, washed sheets, blankets and towels and hung them on the line. (Hard to believe we had a snow storm Sunday night.) I cleaned the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms and one of the basement bedrooms I made dinner and supper and made bread and gave mom a bath. Some days I have more energy than others and today is one of those days. Ha, ha. I'll get on my bike for an hour or so while I watch the Biggest Loser tonight and hope that helps too. I so don't want to go back up to the 140s again. Three more days of light eating might help but then mom's 92nd birthday party is this weekend...sigh... and then our bridal shower and wedding. When will the celebrations end?

Have a good day ladies and keep moving.

Bobbi,

That is ok about the thread thing. About the stiffness ~ maybe the Splenda has nothing to do with it either. I have not used it for about a month and don't seem to notice any difference. I too am better when I am up moving around, but when I sit ~ even for a short time, I seem to stiffen up so quickly. If only I could keep moving all my waking hours ~ LOL. I am so busy at work, that I just want to sit and rest up on my days off. Oh well. I could have accepted the stiffness as part of old age if it had come when I felt myself to be old, but it started in my late 40's and I guess my head protests my body acting like it is old already :dizzy:

Good Morning Girls,

I'm up early, but can't get myself back into my exercising like I know I need to. I've got to get back to that. I haven't been walking outside either, the weather has been really yucky, and I don't have a great place to walk here, without driving a bit first and parking my vehicle somewhere. We have a city park, not very big, but ok, when it turns off pretty this summer, I'm going to take mother and wheel her around in her wheelchair and I'll get my walking in and she'll enjoy the weather.

Gayle, I guess we all go through the binges, I wish there was a magic way to make us stop. I had heard the same thing about Equal causing the stiffness. I never used Equal, I just use the Sweet n low, that good old cancer causing stuff.....according to the experts years ago.......lol.

I wrote an offer on a house on Monday, wish me luck that we can get a deal together....a little more money toward a vehicle.......mine is a 98, with 167,000 miles on it. I think I'm gonna drive it till it lays down and dies....which could be any day now......lololol.

Everyone have a good day, I've got to get busy.

This helps clear up what fish 'not to eat'. We usually buy frozen wild catch salmon when it's on sale. Just once I'd love to have fresh salmon from the sea, I envy folks that live on the coasts.

Large predatory fish. Shark, swordfish, tilefish, king mackerel, and white (albacore) tuna may have high levels of mercury. Pregnant women and children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of contaminants, and should avoid these species. (Small-catch tuna is OK, as it has high levels of omega-3s.)
Omega-6 rich fish. Farm-raised tilapia is one of the most highly consumed fish in America, yet it has very low levels of beneficial omega-3s and very high levels of potentially detrimental omega-6 fatty acids. Omega-6 fatty acids are pro-inflammatory, and inflammation is known to cause damage to blood vessels, the heart, lung and joint tissues, skin, and the digestive tract.
Farmed salmon. Avoid farmed salmon (also called Atlantic salmon), which is what you typically find in supermarkets, restaurants and fish markets. While less expensive than wild salmon, farmed salmon is lower in omega-3s and may contain residues of antibiotics and other drugs used to treat diseases in fish farming pens. What's more, levels of PCBs and other contaminants in some farmed salmon have been found to be much higher than those found in wild salmon.

Good Morning Girls!
Jada...congrats on breaking the 20's to the teens. I have eaten the same thing for breakfast for the last year. Fiber One, usually a banana on it or fruit in season and topped with 1 Tablespoon flax and homemade yogurt. That clears up lots of thinking/cooking/counting calories in the morning because it's always the same and I never tire of it. I eat a Flat Out with PB2 and lots of lettuce for lunch and raw veggies with Peanut butter dip most days. That also helps clear up time consuming calories counting and thinking up new ideas. That leaves me plenty of time to cook up new and exciting supper meals and I can also eat more high calories foods because I have plenty of calories left.
Susann...that would be great exercise for you pushing your mom and I'm sure she'd love to get out of the house for some fresh air.

Good Morning ladies,

Good gracious rosey, sorry you had the attack, and glad you are doing better.

Ok, today is the day that I'm going to get started back on target. I have a goal of 10 lbs by July 1st, that is doable. I too eat the same thing for breakfast, bran cereal, banana or/and strawberries, with skim milk. I normally have yogurt and/or a pear for snack, then I have a salad with lots of vegi' and turkey breast and mozzarella cheese with light raspberry vineagrette dressing. And, normally I have chicken breast with vegi's or a grilled chicken salad or a bowl of cereal for dinner. It has worked ok for me so far, if I get a craving for something different, I usually eat it, then go back to the norm.

Congrat's Jada, I think your plan is working.

Ok, off to exercise, today is kickboxing. Everyone have a great day!

Hi Girls,

I have been absent from the board for awhile. I am feeling very ambivilent about my weight loss. I think I am just in the contemplating stage rather than being ready to actually act on anything. I have not gained anything but I have not lost any weight either. Still struggling to get motivated. I have started my garden work and that usually helps me shed a few pounds. My diet is still really bad although not every meal, every day bad. But last night DH and I went out for ice cream and I know I can never work those calories off. Still, I cannot refuse it. So, I will just hang back for awhile. Thanks for listening.

Hi All!
I'm having a crappy day, my computer has been a naughty girl. I can't copy and paste on this site anymore. I can highlight what you all have to say and paste it but I can't copy/paste a recipe or article from another site unto this one. Anyone else having that problem? I've been working with a microsoft service rep all last week and he hasn't been able to figure it out yet, we're still working on it. I did just contact the 3fat chicks about the problem and haven't heard from them yet.
I also got a phone call this morning about my niece's fiancee, he's in his late 30's, dropped dead last night. The combination of cp problems and his death has my tummy with a icky feeling. I hope this wakes me up a little to start appreciating the health of us, our daughter and grandkids. Speaking of grandkids, Damian's jaw is just about back to normal. He's back in school and Saturday he went back to work for a few hours. (He's 17, has a part time job working at the Dairy Queen)
Anybody have rhubarb bushes? I need to get out and harvest some but don't want to make cake with it. Anyone have a good recipe for Rhubarb Torte?
I need to go out and marinate some elk steaks now, our neighbor down the road went out morell hunting yesterday and brought over a big bag of them to go with our steak tonight. I've never used morell mushrooms before, Bruce wanted me to look up some good recipes for preparing them. I found many recipes but they all suggest dipping in milk or eggs and coating with flour/cracker crumbs, parmesan cheese, crushed corn flakes, etc. That sounds so fattening, how do any of you prepare them?
See Ya!

Hello gals. I've been super busy all weekend. It was the long Victoria Day weekend in Canada and it was mom's 92nd birthday celebrations on Sunday. My sister and niece came and we had open house on Sunday. What a time we had. Mom really enjoyed her day. I was busy all day getting the food ready and my sister was with mom getting her ready. I don't even want to think about what I ate but that's in the past and I'm back counting calories today.

Bobbi, I have rhubarb. I usually put it in the jam I make. It is also good chopped up and put in muffins.

Today I'm working on wedding things again. Only 7 weeks to go and so much to do!!!

Catch you all later.

Hello all,

Hope everyone is doing well. I haven't spent as much time here lately ~ confession: I have been spending a lot of time with that Facebook site. Reconnecting with people and messaging with them. It has been fun. I am not as "into" some aspects of it as much as some of my coworkers are though. They seem to be having fun with an application on there called Farm town. I don't know what it is all about and don't seem to have the patience to play around with that ~ have other things that interest me instead.

I have been doing sewing and crafts lately. That is good I guess ~ keeps my hands busy and out of the food.

It has been beautiful weather here the last few days ~ I was lucky the nice days fell on my days off. I took my lap top and my sewing out on the deck and enjoyed the nice day. And walked too. Gotta keep that up. Had not been as good about doing that lately ~ but really need to try harder to be consistent about that.

Back to work tonight ~ oh well :(

Take care all

Hi all.........I've been guilty of not posting too. Today we set our alarm for 5:00am and when into town to pick up MIL for all day appointments in Rochester Mayo clinic. We just got around 5;30, what an ordeal. Then my DH couldn't find the car, he ran up and down the 5-6 story car ramp for 45 minutes. The whole time we were waiting out in the front of Mayo building waiting for him, I thought me must have been mugged or in an accident. MIL needs surgery so we'll be back over there on the 27 and 28th. I'm going to see if our DD can go with instead of DH. He just can't handle the ordeal of going up and down and over the corridors of the clinic. I'm famished and going to eat, see ya all!

I'm posting this as an experiment to see if I could get my copy/paste to start working, it appear it does work now after two weeks? You can add green peppers, onions, etc.

Prep Time: 20 Minutes
Cook Time: 30 Minutes
Ready In: 50 Minutes

"No green pepper in this recipe, so it's a hit with kids. We added this to the menu at a children's camp, and it has been a favorite for several years. The mixture is thick, so they are 'neat' rather than sloppy. This freezes and reheats well."
Ingredients:
1 pound lean ground beef
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/2 (10.75 ounce) can condensed tomato
soup
2 tablespoons ketchup
1-1/2 teaspoons white vinegar
2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
3/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
4 hamburger buns

Directions:
You have scaled this recipe's ingredients to yield a new amount (4). The directions below still refer to the original recipe yield (8).
1.Place ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook until evenly browned, stirring to crumble. I like to use a potato masher to even out the lumps. Add onion and celery, cover the pan, and cook until tender and transparent, about 5 minutes. Drain off any grease.2.Stir the tomato soup (undiluted), ketchup, vinegar, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce into the beef mixture. Season with salt and garlic powder. Heat to a simmer over low heat, and cook until thoroughly heated, stirring frequently to prevent it from burning on the bottom.3.Spoon the hot beef mixture onto buns, which may be toasted first, and serve.

I am a total failure! (In the diet department, that is.) It's my birthday and I ate half the cake with ice cream. It's midnight and I'm still full...Even my fingers feel full. Lot's of water and vegetables tomorrow.

I've been so busy this week. I'm dead tired, too. I've been baking for the wedding and freezing it all. I made 118 individual quiche, 123 small apple turnovers, 106 small pigs-in-a-blanket and 133 tart shells. That's why I haven't been posting. I've been too busy and tired. It's midnight now and I'm dropping off the couch I'm so sleepy. Catch up later on this weekend, I hope.

Listen to all, plucking a feather from every passing goose, but follow no one absolutely.

- Chinese proverb

Everyone can teach you something

Possible mentors and teachers can be found everywhere and anywhere. Everyone you've met today has something they could teach you--a skill, a bit of wisdom, or a personal secret to success. All you have to do is look for it and ask plenty of questions. Most of all, respect the fact that each person has something of value to offer. If you can't find one "feather" to pluck from someone, you're not looking hard enough. Yet, in the end, you still have to think for yourself. It's still your job to take the knowledge you gain and turn it into your own value system for solid decision-making. It's still up to you to use your skills to carve a unique path in the world. So when night comes, those feathers can make a nice soft pillow that lets you rest your head in peace.

Everyone must be outside enjoying the weekend. :)

I was shopping today and bought white jeans. I've never had white jeans before but I wanted white pants to go with a new blouse and tank top I bought to wear to the bridal shower in 2 weeks. I have to hem the jeans as they didn't have them in short but they fit nicely in a stretchy size 10. I also bought more stuff for the wedding and the shower. I'm gonna be in the poor house. Glad they didn't have a long engagement. :D

I don't know if I mentioned that I made the shawls for the bridesmaids on Friday. They took no time to make and made a nice relaxing break from all the baking I was doing. Now, I've got to get with the program and get serious about this last 10-15 pounds. I've lost that same 5 pounds so often since Christmas that if it were "new" fat I'd be down to 85 pounds!! Ha, ha. I'm going to try to get on my bike tonight if I'm not too tired. These shopping trips wear me out.

Have a nice day and catch you all tomorrow.

Hello.......I just got home from my birthday party, I turned 64 today.
My SIL made angel food cake with a very light vanilla icing. It was good.
Our daughter is getting married June 6th, I 'm not going to do as much as you Isabella. I did tell her I'd make some wedding invitations for her but that's easy computer work. I have a bunch of salads to make, she's having a very informal wedding at the church with a bar Q afterwards. We're having everyone bring a dish to pass as it's only going to be immediate family. (2nd marriage) Should be around 30-35 people. I have a beautiful sleeveless cream dress with matching jacket to wear but since it's going to be so informal, I might wear something less dressy.
I need to start supper, it's already 4:14. Later!

Happy birthday Bobbi. And congratulations on your DD's wedding next month.

And Happy Birthday Rosie. I guess May is full of birthdays. I know in my family it's like Christmas with all the gifts and cards flying around.

I'm still baking today for the wedding and I'm beat out tired. I don't know if I'll get on my bike because I've been on my feet most of the day. I just sat down awhile ago to take a little rest before I start again.

Good Morning!
Thank you for the b'day wishes and Happy B'day to you rosey!
I had a very fattening party but there's always tomorrow. Speaking of tomorrow, we have to haul MIL back to Rochester Mayo for consultation before her surgery on Thursday. I won't be around for a couple of days but then only a few of us are. The thread gets really slow in the spring, yesterday we spent most of the day outside planting flowers and cleaning up all the branches from our wind storm. Isn't it wonderful that we can finally get out side and enjoy the sunshine!:flow2:
Have a great one!

Hello everyone. The last of the individual quiche are in the oven (yeah!!) and that makes 214. If the wedding is called off (perish the thought) we'll be eating quiche for months. Ha, ha.

This morning we woke up to SNOW!!! What a horrible thing that was to look upon. Of course it didn't stay on the ground long as it turned to rain and back to snow and then back to rain again. I guess it was a good day for baking.

No exercise so far this week as I've been on my feet most of the day and too tired to exercise. Maybe tonight I'll get on the bike for a while as today was a lighter baking day. I've joined the Biggest Loser Challenge down in the exercise forum. I hope that will give me a jolt to get back on track. I want to be at goal by the end of the summer. I wanted to be at goal by March but that's long gone. :)

Hope everyone is having a better spring day than I am. Catch you all tomorrow.

Ok, I lost 3.5 pounds this week. Yeah! The birthday poundage is gone! Now to concentrate on getting the last 10 pounds gone before the wedding.

It's raining here today and promises are that we'll have rain til Wednesday. But it's not excessively cold.

Long time, no see everyone. We've made 4 trips to Rochester with MIL, she had surgery last Thursday and is still in the hospital. Tomorrow we'll go get her. Our DD drove last time and we shopped for wedding stuff after tending to MIL. We found some beautiful decorations for the center of the tables. Isabella.......I'm not as exhausted as you because I'm not orchestrating the sewing, food, etc. We're making a couple side dishes only and buying turkey tenderloins wrapped in bacon for grilling. (Tiffany's 2nd wedding and only close family will be there, about 30 people) I'm having my brothers and sisters bring a dish to pass.

I'll post the June Golden Girls and if we continue to have low posts, we'll drop the thread. See ya next month!

4 Healthy ways to cook
To get the most out of your meals, it's not just the ingredients you choose, but the way you prepare them that matters. Use the following tips to maximize the nutritional benefits of foods, and to help minimize the potential harm from improper cooking methods.

Use a steamer. Steaming can retain nutrients better than other methods, such as boiling.
Use marinades. Marinating meats (particularly chicken) may reduce the formation of heterocyclic amines (HCAs), which evidence shows may be carcinogenic. Garlic, rosemary, ginger and turmeric are all healthful spices to include in marinades.
Use a slow cooker. What you put in - fresh vegetables, lean proteins - is a big part of what makes a healthful meal, but the lower temperatures slow cookers use may help preserve nutrients that are otherwise lost when food is cooked rapidly at high heat.
When grilling, pre-cook meats on the stove or in the oven, and finish them off on the grill. Less time on the grill means fewer carcinogens in your meats.

Hi everyone! We finally got moved to MO. YAY!! Things are still a mess but it is getting better. My Dad is in a skilled nursing center and he has good days and bad. They have told us he really has just weeks left with us here on this earth. This past Monday he was doing fantastic and was up most of the day and beat the pants off of everyone playing dominoes!! Then Tuesday he had a really bad day and it has been up and down like that since we got here on the 15th. So between tryiing to get the house set up and going to see my Dad everyday it has been a busy time! I really don't even have internet set up yet--- just being able to catch an unsecured connection every once in awhile. We should have ours set up by the 10th.

My son and his family are here and have been a big help with getting heavy stuff done. I'll be pretty sad when they leave in a couple weeks to go back to Florida!
I hope everyone is doing good. I will try to get on here more often and let you know how things are going here. Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend!!

Hello all,

Karen ~ sorry your dad is not doing so well. I'm glad you are able to be there with him now.

You ladies are amazing with your wedding preperations.

Bobbi ~ do you mean that there won't be Golden Girls anymore? I hope not. Maybe things will pick up again.

My mom and dad are coming to visit next week from Ohio. I am excited about that. Hope it's not too awful hot while they are here. Dad would like that though ~ it was like 70* there today and he was wearing a long sleeved flanel shirt. Mom will like the AC.

Hope you all are doing well.

Take care
