Hey all,

My name is Sarah, and I'm a sugar addict. I know it, and I know I need to change it. This year, I've started some really bad new habits that involve sugary foods and binging. I'm seeing the effects of it on body and know it needs to change.

I've given up sugar for short periods in the past, so I know just how hard that adjustment period is. The cravings are sooo intense...
But I also know I need to get off sugar again, or at least cut it way way way down. I'm just feeling like I don't know where to start. Anyone have any advice or support they can offer to get me jump started?

I would suggest very slowly this way you do not feel deprived and set your self up for success. You did not mention what your sugary foods of choice are and how much so I would say pick one food a week, and eleminate that from your diet and switch a white flour food over to whole wheat once a week. So for example this week if have sugared cereal for breakfast switch it to a non sugared one and if you are going to have pasta have whole wheat instead of regular. Next week add to your list. This way you should be able to give things up gradually with minimal cravings or side effects.

Thanks for your response. Sugary food of choice... pretty much anything and everything! Cookies, cereal, lattes... even some other snacky, high carb things like pretzels do me in sometimes.

The one thing at a time sounds like a great suggestion, and finding replacements sounds good too - I hadn't thought of that (silly me!). I think that was just what I needed to get me started. Thanks!
