Losing weight with PCOS is like trying to rollerskate up an icy hill. With all the wonderful lovely side effects, extra facial and body hair, skin tags, dark skin patches, weight gain, etc, etc, etc.........
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) (http://www.4woman.gov/faq/polycystic-ovary-syndrome.cfm) – A genetically-linked hormonal imbalance that prevents ovulation. PCOS also may cause overproduction of estrogen, abnormal thickening of the uterine lining, very heavy and/or irregular periods, as well as acne and facial hair. The latter are caused by an overproduction of male hormones, including testosterone. -- There are tons of info out there on the web, so if you want more info, just go to your favorite search engine (Google, Yahoo, etc) and type in PCOS. Another great site (besides this one of course for info is: Soul Cysters (http://www.soulcysters.com/). Also here are a couple links for Forum Abbreviations: Basic Forum Abbreviations (http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=83430) and the TTC/Infertility Abbreviations (http://www.soulcysters.net/updated-abbreviations-newbies-79160/)
So please come and join us, won't you? If you or someone you know has PCOS and you want support in WL and just general everyday support, please come and join us. You do not have to necessarily have to be TTC or not TTC. I am just getting back to TTC. So if you are or aren't is just fine, we are here for support. If you do not have PCOS and maybe are just curious about the disease, then feel free to join us as well. Everybody is Welcome!!

I also wanted to add a personal note here. I have come so far and this year is just the beginning of the new me yet to come! :D So if you are out there and struggling and think it will NEVER happen to you, it can! I am living proof! ;) I have struggled with my weight ALL my life and these last 10 years especially were tough. But I have FINALLY seen results and so I can say IT WORKS, so DON'T QUIT (http://www.absolutelypoetry.com/author/jill-wolf/dont-quit.html)! I am not pregnant yet, but that is my next step!!! :preg: Also this is the most AWESOMEST group of people you will ever talk too! They are completely and totally WONDERFUL!
****PLEASE NOTE: I also wanted to add a link for a book that I think is very important for every woman to read, not just women experiencing Infertility Problems: Taking Charge of Your Fertility By: Toni Weschler, MPH (http://www.amazon.ca/Taking-Charge-Your-Fertility-Achievement/dp/0060950536/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1231516209&sr=1-2). It is very very informative about our cycles, how to tell when you are ovulating, etc, etc. It is a great book to have! I know with the economy a lot of us are "tightening" our wallets, but I bought mine at half-priced bookstore for $6. Also there is the library. Just giving out suggestions because it is a good book to read! Also another book I am currently reading: "Getting Pregnant and Staying Pregnant Overcoming Infertility and Managing Your High Risk Pregnancy" By Diana Raab, B.S. R.N. (http://www.amazon.com/Getting-Pregnant-Staying-Overcoming-Infertility/dp/0897932382) Very good with LOADS of great info!!;)

Hi Cysters!!
How is everybody doing???? I hope well!!!! :D
Heather -- Hello and THANKS! :)
Hi Nico!! Glad to see ya and no worries, I need to get into gear and get to walking. :running: Thanks..........next week will be the 4 week mark since I started the Clomid, so far no AF yet!! I did have cramps yesterday, but so far nothing has happened.......:crossed:
Peaches -- Hello and :welcome2:!!! We are glad to have you here!!! Thank you for your thoughts and prayers, you never know this could be the month/year for me! :crossed: Nice to meet another "Twilighter" Have you read the books?? I am almost done with the 4th book.......they are sure easy reads..........took me no time to get through them!!
Hi to everybody out there in "Lurkland" Feel free to come in and say Hello!!! :) We'd love to here from you!!!
Good news, #1 my Home Office is all done!! :woohoo: (we moved into our house in March) Good news #2: while finishing up my office, I found the Angels & Demons book by Dan Brown, so I can have that to read after I get done with this last Twilight book. ;)
Well DH has been walking several miles at work and not just the total of what he walks all night long, him and his coworker have been walking :running: He said they did 8 miles lastnight. :fr: Which I am very proud of, but now I feel like a huge giant slob. :( I need to get it in gear I guess. We still have the treadmill at my inlaws that my fil is giving us, which is a really nice one, but it is HUGE and it does not fold up. Guess I shouldn't complain if its free, right? But I need to get into gear...........Feel like a slug, just slugging along..............:( Oh well just gotta get out there and do it.............:carrot:
We went to Indiana unexpectedly on Thursday. My mil wanted a cement goose for Mothers Day, we called all over in our area, nobody had them. So I remembered a little place in Indiana, where I am from, where my parents got me some things and figured since it was more of a rural area, that they probably would have them. So I called up my mom and she looked up the number and DH called and she said that they had a lot of them and they were only $16 each! So we drove out there and got that and an angel statue for my mom. :) So we met up with my mother and man is she SKINNY! I mean my mom has always been thin, but dang! I told her she needed to put on some pounds!! lol. Too bad I don't get my body shape from her or my father. :( Oh no................I have to be the big fattie...............I mean my mom's family, besides her and her younger brother are all "bigger" people, but still, why couldn't have I gotten that gene that I could be thin no matter what??? I know, I know enough whining!!! HA! :lol3:
But I am going to get her on May 20th after I come home from work that morning and get me some Zzzz's........I am also getting my hair highlighted at her hairdressers while I am out there. It is in bad need for it right now. I am thinking of not doing the blonde, it is so much maintenance for people with darker hair. But I have received SO many compliments on it..............Hard decision. lol.
Well I guess I should go now.......I'm sure if anybody has read through this whole thing they are starting to fall asleep now. lol.

Hi!! Thanks for the warm welcome! I have read all the Twilight books. I'm re-reading the first one because I saw the movie and just *had* to read it again. :o I think I read them all in 2 weeks. It only took me that long because the ladies at work were passing them around and the lady I was getting them from was a little slow... ;)

Hi Peaches.
I've read them in about the same amount of time, except this last book I am lingering with finishing it, probably sad to see the end........lol. Yeah after I read the 1st book, I re-watched the movie and it made a lot more sense!

Just making my way through the different boards and stumbled over here. Of course I am another Twilighter and felt I had to join in. I read all four in like 5 days and then the 12 chapters from the 5th (first book but Edward's POV). I am at college and I had to wait so long to read them because I had to wait for a break in school or I knew no schoolwork would be done. I am hoping to get lots more pleasure reading done this summer. Angels and Demons is definitely on my list along with Through the Looking Glass.
As for "normal" life, I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and IR and am still trying to get all my meds straightened out, but in the mean time trying to be consistent with the workout routines. I get so annoyed because my boyfriend and I are both larger, but as soon as he gets down to business with it all he can drop 50 lbs like nothing, but I am sitting back here gaining 5. Very frustrating, but not defeating.

Hello and Welcome, Gekster!!! :welcome:
Nice to meet another Twilighter!! I am going to complete the 4th book tonight for sure. Then I'll read Edwards point of view, then its on to Angels and Demons......
I can sympathize with ya about the weightloss. My DH can drop weight very easily and it makes me sick, but that is just how it is unfortunately, not saying it is fair, it totally STINKS! But we just got to keep truckin' along.......
Big
Also wanted to wish you all a Happy Mothers Day!! I know some of us aren't "Mothers" to our own children yet, but if your an Aunt, a Sister, a Cousin, a Pet Mommy, etc, you deserve a Happy Mothers Day as well!!
Yes, definitely unfair, but it is what it is. I'm glad I can be here around people who understand the difficulties.

I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and the one thing that scared me the most was the Dr. telling me about being Insulin Resistant. That scared me into a soul searching mission because I don't want to have diabetes - EVER. Hopefully I can support others here dealing with PCOS and they can support me as well as I deal with overcoming the diagnoses.

Hello & Welcome D Red757! :welcome3:
I think a lot about PCOS is scary. But I found that the more I read, the more knowledge I have about the disease that makes it a little less scary. I have some books listed on the bottom of the very 1st message of this thread if you are interested. I have Diabetes and no I don't want it and I hope to one day be able to not have it anymore. We're glad you are here!

Hey all! Sorry I've been MIA. Been having a lot going on.
Sassy- I wish you all of the best with the Clomid. When I was on it, it made my secretions (clear goo) really thick. When I would wipe it would be really thick like a gel. Don't know if that helps you any.

Hi Sassy! I came back looking to check on your clomid cycle. Sorry AF decided to show  Fingers crossed for next cycle. It sucks when you have to wait because of money. I'm still saving the money to just get into the door to see my RE....Then the 500.00 worth of tests hes going to want to do before even getting to start clomid....Sucks but hopefully one day it will be worth it.
What's this I'm reading about a 5th twilight book? I thought that last one wasn't going to happen ......Going to go look for it NOW :D

Hi Cysters,
Well AF is here in RAGING FULL affect. UGH why now? So I'm wearing like 4 overnight pads and cramping. Its started to ease up a little, but lastnight, was awful. I got up and had blood all down my leg (sorry if tmi) and went and took a shower, and blood was just dripping, it looked like a freaking murder scene! I even had an adult diaper on lastnight because it was so heavy and I bled through that!!!!!! So I went back to putting like 4 overnights into my undies and adult diaper over that.......UGH I'm too young to wear adult diapers! lol. But if it keeps me from bleeding all over, well that is what I have to do!!!!!!!!!!
So I was gonna wait and get my mom tomorrow, she is on vacation and is going to come and stay with us, but figured, may as well go get her and she can hang out with me at the house.
Anyways, sorry if it is too graphic, but I'm sure you ladies all understand.
I hope you all are doing well!!!

Sassy, sorry AF is raging. Mine were like that on clomid too. I just wanted to answer your question about the goo.
It is common to get egg white like mucous at the end of the cycle because it is the corpus luteum(the follicle that ovulated) breaking down and passing. It is usually a sign that AF is near. On a positive note, it appears you did ovulate. :)
Sorry for butting in. Long time lurker here. I have had pcos all my adult life and have been TTC #1 for over six years. Had one miscarriage a few months ago. I am on a quest to be as healthy as possible so along with tons of exercise and good eating, I have been more active on 3FC.
Losing4another
05-20-2009, 06:49 PM
Sassy- Have to talked to the RE about all that bleeding? It could be all the shedding from irregular AF and not ovulating but that sounds like you should call the DR just to make sure. I didn't even bleed that much with my miscarriage...So just to be safe
Water- Same here...I'm working on getting as healthy as I can while saving up to start TTC with an RE again. I got Af for the first time in a long time all on her own so I know I'm doing something right. I'm going to buy myself the new active personal trainer thing that just came out for the Wii. Have to lose 2.5 more pounds first ...it's for my 30 pounds loss goal :D

Hola all,
Thanks so much for the info, water25 and no problem, butt in anytime!!! I have had pcos for 9 years now, but I have not found my Infertility Books yet and I didn't have time to look up info on the net at that time. So thanks a bunch and well at least I "O'd" ;) And on a positive note, at least I started all on my own and ON time! So that is good. :cp:
Losing4another -- Thanks hon. I think its just a "back up" from not having a regular AF. Cuz last month wasn't a regular AF either. It was really light and good news is it has slowed down. If it hadn't I was gonna call the dr. But it has. I've had heavy AF's all my life, but this one was probably one of the most heaviest, I have to say. But maybe it got the "back up" out so maybe I can be "normal" next month?
Anyways. I feel so much better today and I'm glad so I can go out and enjoy myself. Yesterday I was all crampy and just did not feel up to doing much. So today I want to go and get some flowers at the store today with my mom and plant some! ;)
I did get a sunburn yesterday! :o On my left arm only!!! From driving to get my mom! Go figure. I did not think I would need sunblock IN THE CAR! lol. But that was a dumb thing on my part. I learned my lesson. Put sunblock on everyday! lol.
Well have a great day and again, thanks Cysters!!!
Also EVERYBODY is :welcome2: here anytime, so just jump in at anytime!!!

Hi, everyone.
I don't know how long I've had PCOS, though I was officially diagnosed about 2 years ago.
I am 38 years old. I got pregnant with my first child in January, and miscarried in March. I didn't know PCOS could make you miscarry until I read it here. I figured once I got pregnant I'd be fine. My pregnancy came as a surprise, since my husband and I were planning to wait a couple more years until he finished college, then get serious about getting pregnant. We had been "trying" for a child (not using birth control) for 8 years and had given up.
My regular MD doesn't even bother me about my weight because of the PCOS. If I lose anything, he says "great." If I stay the same or gain a little, he says nothing. He did tell me that the odds are against me being able to do much with my weight. I am not on any sort of treatment the PCOS. Though I am thinking of getting one of the books I saw recommended here.
In the past I've had an easy time losing weight, I just get frustrated with any failure and give up. I don't know how PCOS will affect weight loss since I'm just starting out. I hope to benefit from those of you who know much more about it than I do.
Anyway, I look forward to learning from you all. Thanks!

Hi, I was doing research and came across this thread. I've been recently diagnosed with PCOS. My doctor put me on metformin and a very strict diet of 45 g of carbs a day. For those who are on this diet and any low carb diet, I give props. :bravo: On a good note I did lose 6 lbs the first week even though I cheated. It'll be nice to actually be able to take with people that do have this.

Thanks for the welcome. I know damn pcos huh?lol
Its ok though, im being positive about it. The more stressed you are the more weight you hold onto anyway.
Ive read stories about the raw diet practically curing people of Pcos but id find it too extreme. I did find having green smoothies made my face become clear and curb the excess hair growth quite a bit which was amazing. Foods like Kale were good to have in smoothies. Depends if you can stomach it or not.
When i lost around 50lbs a few years ago i cut out anything with wheat and dairy. Then i met my bf and ate all that stuff again.lol Dunno if this helps at all?

Me personally, I chose not rule out any type of food completely because if I say I can't have it, I want it all the more, but just like with everything it is about moderation. I was put on metformin and I suppose it is doing what it is supposed to, but I also am watching the carbs, especially like white pasta. I've found that it is not too difficult to switch to more healthy alternative like whole wheat. I think more than doing strict diets it is about really watching the quality (as well as quantity) of things we put in our bodies.
Laz- Welcome and congrats on the 6 pounds, way to start it off!
Kittycat - Welcome. That is awesome that you were able to stay off wheat and dairy, most people actually have an intolerance to both, but since they are such staples in children's diets out bodies learn to just deal with it, but obviously this is not a good thing haha. As far as the raw diet, I have heard wonderful things about it, there is a lot more prep for meals, but hey, no more cooking! It does seem extreme, but think about a veg diet or counting calories.. all of these are not really diets, but ways of life, each one having pros and cons. You have to find the lifestyle that is right for you.
