Default Pickle issues

Who eats them and who avoids them due to the salt thing?
I *really* love dill pickles and have always eaten them so that makes me think maybe i have a *base-line bloat* and won't notice retained water. The logic goes that i always retain so go on and enjoy my pickles.
I am not new to dieting and weight loss but this is my first solid attempt in forever. I am way out of shape. Right now i manage 30 minutes of light yoga and i'm calorie counting. Hoping my energy will pick up soon so i can be more active. Maybe then i'll cut back on pickles as well

i am a salt hound. pickles are to me what i gather chocolate is to other women. so i eat them whenever i have the opportunity, salt be damned. i guess i kinda just figure that if i am carrying extra water due to my excessive salt intake, it's just water and not fat anyway, so oh well. guess that's my baseline.
incidentally, there was an interesting article in the nytimes yesterday about salt.

I eat them once in a while -- they are good to take to a movie if I am craving popcorn.

I LOVE pickles but I dont buy them anymore - I never had an issue with the salt in them. My 12 year old niece will eat the whole jar in one sitting when nobody's home - it seems to be a binge food for her and I dont think a jar of pickles is really good for someone her age. She doesnt binge on anything else...just pickles.

Thank you all for replying. I feel better about my pickle issues. I love the ones in the bags so i will continue to enjoy 1 a day (and maybe a few other pickles too). For the calories it makes a great snack

Great article too sws19. How timely.

Could she have a mineral deficiency?

I honestly think she does. She doesnt eat a balanced diet - I know most kids her age dont, but she survives on a diet of poutine and beef patties. Her parents allow it. I've told her mom I think they should start her on a multivitamin but that went in one ear and out the other.

I often eat a couple a day. I just make sure I drink enough water with them to flush the salt out of my system.

I love pickles. When I was a kid, I too could eat a whole jar. I don't eat them very much any more though, because I end up with a very bloated stomach ache now when I eat more than one.

This is just too funny because I am crunching one up just as I saw this thread. I don't eat the whole jar due to sodium but yep, I eat 'em! 5 Calories? OH YEAH! My other back up is Jello Gelatin cups for 5 calories.

I have some of those Jellos in the fridge and might have one later (with some whipped cream even!)

I do try to drink lots of water but it's not so hot here yet so it's harder.

Glad there are so many pickle fans here!
JellyDisney --- i used to do the same thing. I remember playing cards with my cousin and we ate 2 jars of spears, drank the juice and then moved on to sweet pickles! Eeek!

I love dill pickles. I hate sweet pickles! We keep a jar of Klausen's in the fridge. I'm thinking about venturing into making them this year, we'll see.

Once in a while I'll get a craving for tons of salt. Generally this happens after I exercise, although it hasn't happened in a while. At those points I'll eat a few pickles until I feel better..

It is crazy to think they are considered vegetables.. I mean, I know where they come from but all that salt?? LOL.. I don't count them as veggies when I eat them..

It is sad to see the pour diets children are on these days. Imagine how much of a struggle it is to lose our weight.. I wonder if one day in the future there will be a sub-forum for younger chickies?

SWS19: Thank you for sharing that article. I found it very interesting. I also read some of the sub-articles in there. One about Trans fats was interesting... Thanks!!
