We are about Fitness and Quality of Life after 50...
We are about Fun and Friendship after 50...
We are the Golden Girls...

There is Value in us
There is Power in us
There is Wisdom in us
And Laughter....
We are a rainbow of unique wonders,
There is love in us.
(poem by Dorothy Holmes)

Tell us a little about your life, family and goals. What keeps you motivated? What is the best thing that's happened to you since you passed the 50 mark?
Friends laugh, cry and stand by each other, we'll be that to you!

Good Morning Girls!
Thanks for the kick-in-the-butt Linda, I usually have this posted two days prior. We've been so involved with MIL, been making trips into town daily. We have to go in again today to sign papers, we moved her from her apartment into a alzhemers unit last Wednesday.
It's snowing right now but we always have a few good snow storms in March. Today I'm starting my diet again, I'm up 9 pounds since last October when I made my goal. See ya later alligator!:p

Hi Everyone,

Even though I've been with this group for years, I thought I would re-answer Bobbi's post -

Tell us a little about your life, family and goals. What keeps you motivated? What is the best thing that's happened to you since you passed the 50 mark?

What keeps me motivated? - Daily weigh-ins & the Accountability Thread & the Golden Girls Thread & watching the Biggest Loser.

What is the best thing that's happened to you since you passed the 50 mark? - probably my travel with my DD & SIL.

How about everyone else?

Good thought Lynn...... My motivation comes from the horrid feeling of the ring of fat around my waist when I sit. I hated that feeling and I hated when the ring would bulge out the top of my jeans. Losing that and feeling so comfortable in my clothes keeps me motivated. I'm back on the diet plan today because my jeans are getting tight in my tummy area, I just have to keep on top of it. Reminds me of that great article you posted awhile back on how we'll always be fighting the battle of the bulge:(
I'm doing a little cleaning out of stored documents on my pc and I ran across a recipe to make homemade breakfast sausage out of chicken breast. I haven't made it yet because of a seasoning called 'Montreal chicken spice'. I googled it and couldn't find anything on it. Anyone know what/where to find this?

I already mentioned that all the time I spend at 3FC in various places motivates me.

Definitely the Accountability thread is a great motivator to keeping me on track because I really hate it when I have to own up to the numbers on those not so great days. I also find it awkward if I have a bunch of days when I don't count even if i don't think things have been too bad.

My biggest motivator is my health . . . the diabetes; the arthritis; what I now think is Pulmonary Edema (and I imagine the doctor will eventually agree ) are all impacted by overweight.

The best things about getting older (and don't forget I'm well past 50). Not having to get up and out to work during bad weather; it's rather nice to get paid just for existing. Of course, and I know I've said it before, the very best thing (IMHO) NO MORE TOM. :yay:

I'll second all of the above. :D

I took mom shopping today and we had a good trip. The sun was shinning and it got so hot in the car I turned off the heat. Then in the store I thought I was going to melt so off came the coat. The wind was cold but the sun was definitely warm (almost hot when the wind stopped). I wore shoes and my feet felt so light. We're supposed to get rain tomorrow but it's still going to be warmer than winter so the snow will really melt down and the grass will soon be showing.

I've had 2 good days in a row and I started my circuit workout again this morning. I haven't done that since February and actually no real ongoing workout since before Christmas. It felt good to be back in control.

Lady in weighting - thanks for telling me about this thread and sorta inviting me over :D My name is Kate, and I'm a 55 year old wife, Mom and Nana. Long term weight issues....

I've been back on the diet since Monday, and when I started, I knew it wouldn't work unless I could find some compadres! And, of course, my husband offered me pie on Monday night. To paraphrase Indiana Jones, "Pie! Why did it have to be pie?" I refused the first two times, but I finally succumbed. I felt so bad....:o

But since then, I've actually been stronger. I've been choosing fruit instead of the office candy jar. So I'm inching along.... It's going to be a long journey but I really really want to retire healthy.

Hi Everyone!! Winter is back AGAIN!! I am so tired of snow:( I keep thinking that Spring is really coming but you can't tell it by looking outside right now---AND we have a major Winter Storm coming in on Saturday!! ((sigh)) Having a hard time getting motivated and staying motivated.

Hello and Welcome to all the new members we have. This is a great group and you will get all the help. tipsand support that you could ever ask for right here.

I guess I need to get up off the couch and from in front of the fireplace and do some exercises but when it is snowing like crazy it is so easy to make excuses!! I need to stop that!

Everybody have a great evening.

HI KATE, It's so nice to see you, and have you in the group. When I joined this group, I got support from the get go. It's a great place to be, I'm sure you will love it.

Karen, I think it would be very hard to move from in front of the fireplace with it snowing outside. Just picturing that is so cozy. But, for your sake, I hope the snow goes away and spring comes soon!!!

I can tell you all what motivated me to get started losing this weight. My MIL, she has always worn a larger size than me, she gives me a lot of her clothes that she has outgrown. She recently moved to our city, and in the move and unpacking and rearranging furniture over and over, she has dropped 20 lbs. Now, tell me, do you think that I can let her get away with that? NOOOOO, lol. So, I decided I better get started too.

What keeps me motivated: When Katrina hit, a couple named J and R lost everything they had, where they lived got hit really hard, there was sickness, despair, and they had nothing. They had heard that Kentucky was a nice state, and they opened the map, and closed their eyes and pointed. They came to my town. About a year and a half ago, I met J. She is 17 yrs younger than me, and she quickly became the daughter that I never had. I could not have raised a daughter that loved me more, one who treated me so well, one that was so devoted to me. She is a health nut, eats right, exercises daily, and I mean exercises, not just a walk, or a few minutes of cardio. She is so proud of me, every pound that I lose she makes me feel like I have accomplished the ultimate. I know that God sent J into my life for lots of reasons, this is one of them.

The best thing that happened since I've turned 50..........well, I have to say my two grandchildren. They fill my heart with so much love. And, of course, J came into my life after 50. 2 grandchildren and a daughter are wonderful gifts.

Ok, I've rattled on enough, have a great day everyone!

Hi everyone.

Kate, welcome! If you're looking for support, this is the right place. Look forward to getting to know you. We are all on different diet's but we are all there for each other. What plan are you following?

HI Karen, Although I love sitting in front of the fireplace and watching it snow outside, that gets old! Enough allready! We'e supposed to get some more too, sometime next week, according to the weather man. All my trees are budding out and plants are starting to pop up. If it snows now they are going to get shocked.

Susan, You are truly blessed to have found such good friends. Always a blessing.

Isabella, it's good to get back to exercising, isn't it? I find that my body craves it after awhile.

Bobbi, I too use my clothes as a better indicatior of weight gain than the scale. When those jeans start getting uncomfortable, it's time to get serious.

Lynn, what motivates me? Wanting to be able to be active and play with my grandkids. I don't want to be one of those grandparents who just sit and watch. We have taught them how to ride a bike, I practice soccer with them, and play how to pick up "grounders". I don't like sitting on the sideline!

Linda, I don't know how I forgot about the big D. Yes, probably the greatest motivator for me was earning type 2 diabetes. I always say it is the best disease I ever had. Since I found out, 3 years ago, I changed my life entirely.

Hi Karen,
I got that DTOUR book (was featured in last month's Prevention booklet). In it there are little blurbs about current research on each page. Here's one I read last night - "4 hours or more of inactivity causes a near shutdown of an enzyme that controls fat and cholesterol metabolism." p. 4.

I am trying to think of some "in-front-of-the-tv" exercise I could do every 3.5 hours. Any ideas? You and I could do this together. I do my gym exercise every morning & then for most of the rest of the day on many days, am sitting in front of tv or computer.

Susann

Hi Susann,

Your story about your relationship with J gave me goosebumps. I am sorry for all of her losses, but happy you two found each other.

Hi everyone.
Lynn, what motivates me? Wanting to be able to be active and play with my grandkids. I don't want to be one of those grandparents who just sit and watch. We have taught them how to ride a bike, I practice soccer with them, and play how to pick up "grounders". I don't like sitting on the sideline!

Freda

Hi Freda,
Keep on movin! Best way to stay fit and young.

My plan for today is to make those zucchini muffin tops. + I want to make another high-fiber vegetable thing. Last week that really helped curb my appetite. Other than that, just do my course, maybe start organizing my scrapping room, and figure out some kind of living room exercise to do every 3.5 hours.

- Steve Young

Who do you compete against?

Do you hold yourself to the standards of others, wishing you could be better than the next guy? Maybe it motivates you, but an even better method is trying to be better than yourself. How about pushing yourself each day to eat better or to walk longer after dinner? Goal setting is a great way to "compete" against yourself. You select the end result that you want and then it's up to you--and only you--to work for those goals. You'll be pushing yourself toward greatness, not creating unnecessary competition against others who can't compare to you.

This article rings so true for me, I've always had great success in losing weight. I document every morsel I put in my mouth on Fitday and it's so rewarding at night to see I stayed within my daily goal. I make a game out of resisting treats on Sunday afternoons at my dads where we all congregate, it gives me a high!
Hi Freda...nice to hear from you.
Susann...That would definitely work for me, my MIL was/is slim and a very classy dresser. I was always concious of my looks when around her. (Not any more, yesterday she asked what my name was, she forgot)
She recently moved to our city, and in the move and unpacking and rearranging furniture over and over, she has dropped 20 lbs. Now, tell me, do you think that I can let her get away with that? NOOOOO, lol. So, I decided I better get started too.

Meowee & Karen31, we had snow here too, winter just doesn't want to let up this year.
Hi Kate...What part of the country are you from, U.S., Canada?
Lynn...Go ahead, hit me in the head.:club:Hi Bobbi,

Try searching for "McCormick Grill Mates Montreal Chicken Seasoning" WITH the quotation marks.

A little light went off in my head and I checked my spices, I have the McCormick Grill Mates Spicy Montreal Steak seasoning right here. duh..........I'm sure I could substitute ground elk instead of chicken and use the montreal spice that I already have for the sausage recipe.
Isabella...you motivate me! :hug:You sign up for everything and are so dedicated in posting regardless of what your weight is.
Hi anyone I missed, it's so nice to be able to chat this morning. I get to stay home today, nothing to do but take care of myself.
How many of you watch Biggest Losers? Lynn, I know you mentioned it, who would you have voted off this week? I would have like to see Ron voted off a long time ago but he helps keep his son there and I would like to see either Mike or Tara win.
I'm making a new recipe for meat loaf that has lemon slices on the top for supper, it's from the allrecipe site. I love making new recipes, that reminds me, I still have to post the 'Crispy Cornmeal Scones'. I'll do that now..............see ya!

hi Kate...welcome! I have spent a life time trying every diet invented and the best thing that happened to me was South Beach diet and Golden Chicks. They are always ready with support and encourage.

My biggest motivator right now is I gave away all my fat clothes and after gaining those 2lbs last week and will have to go around in a toga. Boy now that will be an ugly sight!

Sofa came...love it but is darker here than in the store so DH is slowly adjusting....

Hi again,

Lynn, I had read the same thing about the need to do some kind of activity every 3 hours. So now if i'm just setting around watching tv or something equally brainless, I will either do jumping jacks or jump rope untill winded. Which is not long! ha You can do anything you want, just move. 5 min. of step arobics is another thing I do.

Good morning everyone :)

Bobbi: My heart is with you in placing your MIL in an Alzheimer unit. During my career as a social worker I had to place patients in Alzheimer units, when there was no family involved. It' more than a challenge.
Karen3: I like your idea of giving away your fat clothes.
Lynn: I'm all for joining you and Karen is finding exercises to do in front of TV and computer. I keep my legs moving, flex my fingers (I do a lot of typing), knee exercises, stretches.
Freda: I don't like sitting on the sidelines either.
Sueann: Grandchildren fill my heart with so much love also. Their unconditional love is truly welcome after raising teenagers.
SaltWaterFarm: Congratulations on getting down to 222.
Retiredone: Great on starting the circuit workout. Taking that first step is a good feeling.
Meowee: The accountability thread has helped me too and to see how other people are doing. I'm totally with you at how nice it is to be able to stay home during bad weather.

I'm 56 years old, and a retired social worker. I was/am a widow of two sons. I raised sons alone from the time they were 10 and 11, so I'm very happy to finally be retired and have my sons living on their own. I miss that life sometimes, but my life is definitely better now.
My goal is to publish my first book. While I was working, I had a couple of small articles published, so it's nice to be retired now so I can write full time.
What keeps me motivated in losing weight is that I'm just tired of the whole thing associated with gaining weight: All the cooking, all the cleaning, all the shopping, worrying about my health, the wasted money on food and restaurants. Luckily, I've been somewhat active my whole life with one thing or another and I stayed away from cigarettes, alcohol and drugs, so I'm in good health, except for high blood pressure.
The best thing that's happened since turning 50 is a long list, but most of all I feel very lucky I can stand at the window and enjoy watching the rain or snow.
Hello to anybody I may have missed.:)

Happy April everyone

Lynn ~ I read one time ~ I think it was someone on here ~ another 3FC - that she marched in place while watching TV ~ it sort of sticks in my mind that she was one who had had good success and lost a lot of weight, so I felt like if that was one of the things she did and she was successful, it was probably a helpful thing to do.

Rosey ~ you were asking about exercises you could do from your wheelchair ~ I saw a program on the PBS channel ~ sit and be fit ~ maybe that would be of help to you.

Welcome to you new ladies ~ hello to everyone else :)

Three nights off work~ yippee!!!

Take care

Hello everyone. I've had a long day. I was finishing off the "Thank You" notes for my MIL. First I made 24 extra thank you notes on my computer because I couldn't find any inexpensive ones when I was shopping yesterday. They were all very expensive so I decided to make them as close as I could to the ones that the funeral home gave us. Then I couldn't find any envelopes to fit so I took one apart from the "real" notes and used that as a pattern and made the envelopes. They turned out very nice and probably no one would guess I made them. Then I finished writing the notes inside the cards. So many people dropped off food or put a few dollars in a sympathy card that it had to be done. I also put a "Note of Thanks" in the local paper and low and behold it was published today with my name on it as if I was the deceased!!! I hope people read it because it was definitely my FIL that passed away and not me. Somebody goofed at the newspaper. They are going to reprint it in Monday's paper with my late FIL's name at the top instead of mine. I'm glad to be alive, thank you. In between all this I made dinner and packed a lunch for DS for tomorrow and made a no bake cheese cake for the weekend. I even got the dishes washed but DH did them at lunch time (bless his heart). I didn't think I'd get in any exercise but I climbed on my bike just after 9 pm and peddled away for an hour watching "Survivor." Haven't watched that at all this season so wasn't sure what was going on except each season is surprisingly the same.

Time for a paragraph break, ha, ha. Mom has been much better this week. I guess she didn't get enough attention from me last week with all the funeral things going on. Tomorrow I'll do her hair again. She loves getting her hair washed and set. She was quite glamorous in her day in a homey sort of way. Always had gorgeous hair and still does. Everyone comments on it, even strangers.

I don't think I ever really answered the question as to what motivates me to lose/keep weight off. There were and are several reasons. I suppose the most important one is health. I don't have any of the diseases that we generally associate with aging such as diabetes or heart disease and I'd like to keep it that way or at least do what I can. But even though health is important I like buying new and stylish clothing that I couldn't fit into a year ago. And to top it all off I don't have anymore "fat" clothes left in my closet except for the dress I wore to DS's wedding five and a half years ago and I'm not wearing that anymore. I don't have lots of clothing because I'm not working so my needs are few. I have one pair of jeans, 2 pair of cords, one pair of black dress pants, a few tops and blouses and lots of t-shirts. I also have nice church clothing and exercise pants and shorts. I also have youngest DS's wedding in July and I want something really nice to wear.

OK, it's time to go to bed. Good night. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Lila

My daughter is my #1 motivation for losing weight. I don't want to embarrass her in front of her friends anymore.
Motivation #2 has to be my horses. Although I am riding again, I feel soooo guilty exptecting them to carry me. And then of course, the comment that his saddle might be hurting him! My friend is far too polite to say, hey, you are still too heavy. So I am not going to ride any of my horses untill I reach a decent weight.
This site has also helped me a lot. I can't wait to get my weight counter! And just reading through the posts helps me by knowing that I am not alone in the fat busting business.

Good Morning Girls!
Isabella...you've been a busy girl! I make all my own cards on the computer and everyone seems to appreciate them, I always put the birthday person's picture on the front of the card. I have two different card programs installed, the American Greeting card is the one I use the most.
Susann...how long is your bus route? Do you drive one of those monster buses or smaller ones? I wouldn't be gutsy enough to drive a school bus in Minnesota winters. I don't even like driving my car in the winter.
Karen3...why don't you just jump in and get the initial shock over with. Every winter we have people jump into the lake (they chop a hole in the ice), then warm up in a hot tub to raise money for special olympics. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Glynn, Jada and Rosey...Hi, nice hearing from you again.
Lynn...I must have missed something, what's this about? If you sit in front of the t.v. or computer chair for 3 hours straight? I love challenges but maybe I wouldn't qualify. I never sit still that long in one place. OK - who wants to join in the "every-3-hours-jump-around-in-front-of-the-tv" Challenge?

Congrats Karen31 on the 2 pound weight loss.:carrot:
Hi Lila...wow, you're from South Africa! I don't understand your weight system, at first I thought you were a teeny, weeny person, then I noticed it wasn't pounds. Happy to have you among us.Motivation #2 has to be my horses. Although I am riding again, I feel soooo guilty exptecting them to carry me. And then of course, the comment that his saddle might be hurting him! My friend is far too polite to say, hey, you are still too heavy. So I am not going to ride any of my horses untill I reach a decent weight.

I posted the recipe for cornmeal scones, I don't dare make them since I started back on counting calories. I don't want any temptations around.
You all have a great day.
P.S. There is not a cloud in the sky but................... we suppose to have 6-13 inches of snow and high winds over the week-end. Here we go again!

Hi Lila and welcome. You're in the right place whether you're losing pounds or kilos.

Karen31, I hope your 2 pound loss bodes well for the rest of us also. I love 2 lb losses.

Karen3 and Bobbi, my niece did a polar bear dip this winter. Brrrrr. I'd take a Florida swimming pool at any temperature than the frigid North Atlantic.

Bobbi, I'm so tempted to make those cornmeal scones. They sound delicious but I'm like you-afraid I'd eat them. But maybe I'll make them for a family dinner where there are more than 2 people to eat. DS, DIL and Baby will be here for Easter so I may keep them in mind for then.

Susan, don't forget to eat!!! Ha, ha, I've had days like that especially when I was working.

Today I had the most awesome dinner. I went to bed hungry thinking I'd like to have lentils for dinner today. Yes, lentils. So today I used about half a pound of green/brown lentils in a casserole dish. I covered them with water about 2 or 3 inches above the lentils and put in a bouillon cube. I used a vegetarian beef flavor. I baked them for an hour and added sauteed onions, mushroom and peppers and about 1/2 cup instant brown rice (any kind of rice would do) and about a teaspoon dried savory. I added a little more water and baked an additional half hour until the rice was very tender. So delicious. I know why Esau sold his birthright for a pot of lentils. Then I made a carrot salad with shredded carrots, chopped dates, crushed pineapple and a dressing of mayo and peanut butter. I finished off the meal with roasted potatoes. Oh, my it was so good I could do it all over again. Everything was pretty low fat except for the salad dressing.

Well, have a good day. I might weigh in tomorrow and see how things are on the scales.

Hi Lila,

Glad to have a fellow equestrienne among us. I don't ride often, but I have always loved horses & riding.

Welcome to our group.

Great Find -

I found the frozen vegetable souffle that I had at my DD's. Name - Garden Lites. I think that there are several types, but at my grocery store there was only 1. I got the roasted vegetable souffle. Here's the breakdown -

Cals - 120
Carbs - 18
Fiber - 5
Fat - 2 (no trans)
Protein - 8

Plus - it tastes good!

Oh dear -- yesterday turned into one of those days that involve eating two meals out -- I can manage one, and do my best to figure out the content of everything; but as soon as it turns into two, I seem to just say the H*** with it and find myself face down in the trough. Yesterday included a lot of cabbage rolls, a lot of bread, and even some delicious chocolate cake.

Today is shaping up to be a fine, back on plan, kind of day. Weather-wise, it is mild, but not sunny. Things are melting like mad and my yard is beginning to look very swamp-like. We are supposed to get a few days with rain starting tonight. Probably get rid of the rest of the snow . . . and turn the swamp into a lake.

:welcome: to our happy little group LILA . . . glad to have you joining us . . .

Isabella, please give me the recipe for the carrot salad. I love carrots, dates, pineapple and peanut butter. I use the PB2 peanut butter so the calories will stay low.

Then I made a carrot salad with shredded carrots, chopped dates, crushed pineapple and a dressing of mayo and peanut butter.

hi everyone,

It's cold here, still. yesterday was warmer and I actually thought it might get warmer. Not yet i guess. Took my little dog to the groomer this morning and only wore a light jacket, thinking it was a warmer day like yesterday. Mistake!

Hi Glynne, Good to see you again. Enjoy that long weekend!

Isabella, your dinner sounds yummy and not at all high calorie. you could change the salad dressing to fat free mayo and the powdered peanut butter and cut the calories for that a lot.

Bobbi, I haven't checked out our weather for the weekend. I hope we're not getting that snow too!

Lynn, Ok, what kind of exercise did you do last night while you were sitting around?

Karen, 2 lb's. Girl that is awsome. Keep it up.

Sue, I've had a few days when I didn't get to eat, but I don't know that I forgot to. You must have been one busy lady!

Lila, You are not alone. There is always someone here with useful information and lots of encouragement. Welcome.

Rosey, you're right, almost losing your life/health makes you more appreciative of what you have.

Karen, would love to see a picture of your new couch in the house. I bet it looks great.

Bobbi: The snow and high winds sounds miserable. How in the world do you stay warm? I live in the desert, so I can't imagine living in such cold weather.
Rosey: Living in Alaska sounds beautiful. I hope the ash fall out has stopped. I haven' been following it in the news. I'll have to check out the weather channel to see if it's on there.
Gayle: Enjoy your days off.
Lynn: I'm joining your exercise every three hours routine, whether I'm watching TV or not. Gives me something to think about other than food.
Karen3: Congratulations on completing your whole pool exercise program.:cp:
Lila: I wish the best in reaching your goal of having your daughter proud of you.
Meowee: Your second meal sounded so very very good, especially the chocolate cake.
Karen31: Congratulations on losing 2 lbs.:cp:
Retiredone: I was quite impressed with your creativeness in writing the thank you notes. I never thought to make my own envelopes. What a great idea.
Susanp: It must have been a good feeling to forget to eat a meal.

I'm doing well. Cutting all caffeine out of my diet and putting all my extra money in savings so it's not available for buying extra food I don't need, has really helped me to stick with my food plan. My body seems to really appreciate the lesser work load. It's supposed to be windy and cold today, so I'll be exercising at home.

Bobbi, the carrot salad was just enough grated carrots for 3 (about 1.5 cups) a handful dates, chopped and the smallest can of crushed pineapple in juice, drained. I mixed that together with about 3 or 4 tablespoons crunchy peanut butter and enough mayo (about the same amount) to mix through the carrots. It could have used a little lemon juice or vinegar to bump up the sharpness in the dressing but I liked it the way it was. Hope that helps.

Hello Lila, I don't think we've met, glad you are here, welcome to the YOU CAN DO CLUB!!! lol. We're all winners here!

Good Morning girlies,

Yesterday was a busy day for me, and I forgot to eat most of the day...yeah!! I only got to walk, didn't do any work out before bus route, but up bright and early this am to get started.

Everyone have a great Friday, and a wonderful weekend!

Susann

Susann,

You need to post your Zucchini Muffin recipe in our recipe thread - up in the sticky area. Those are the BEST lo-fat/lo-carb muffins I've found.

I used all whole wheat flour & somewhat more zucchini - made 12 muffins instead of 9.

Thank you for sharing,

Hi, everyone, I worked late last night and didn't get a chance to check the forum.

I'm currently in Savage, MN, but as you can see from my login, we hope to go home to New England someday. Every time I write my login, I'm reminded of my goal!

What motivates me to lose weight is that I'd like to start my own business and I don't want to be overweight and tired all the time. And I had a great time with my grandmother & want to have that kind of relationship with my grandchildren. She did everything at top speed.:)

I've tried Weight Watchers and South Beach and Dean Ornish. But what worked years ago was good old counting calories and exercise. And it is amazing what drinking enough water does for a girl....

I told one of the girls who works for me about 3FC and she is so excited to join too...

Good luck, everyone, over the weekend - do you guys have trouble like I do? Seems like any change to routine gets me in trouble.

Good morning everyone,

Bobbi and Isabella, what kind of paper do you use for your cards? Is there such a thing as greeting card paper that you can buy? I have card stock paper, that I sometimes use for my business cards, but isn't that too thick for greeting cards?

I guess I should clarify on the forgetting to eat. I did remember at meal times, because I had to fix for mother anyway, but the snacks that I normally have, and thinking about what I'm going to have later, that is what I forgot, because I was so busy...lol.

Bobbi, my bus route is about an hour long, by the time I leave my house till I get to the bus garage. I keep my bus at home at night, so I start my route from my house, and have my first pickup about 2/10ths of a mile from my house. After my morning route I leave my bus at the bus garage and bring my vehicle home during the day between my routes. I leave my house at 6:45, which is not bad at all. A lot of drivers are on the road picking up students by 6:30.

Karen3, the pool sounds cold......lol.....but congrat's on doing your pool routine, I hear water aerobics are really good for you.

Freda, I've never seen powdered peanut butter, in fact, I have never heard of it, guess I really am from hickville. What else can you do with it?

Meowee, today is another day, yesterday is gone forever. right?

Karen3, I just love those 2 lb losses.......amazing how such a small number can look sooooooooooooo big.....lol

Lynn, haven't joined your get up and move every 3 hrs yet, but will try to remember to do it.

Ok, I blew it last night. Every morning I drive by the sign at Godfathers pizza, 2 large one toppings.......lol......I thought Friday night would be a great time to have pizza with our card playing friends......so we did. I ate 4 pieces, first a salad tho, then I made some white chocolate macadamia nut cookes, ate 3 of those, but they were small. Then, within an hour, I payed for it. Got sick to my stomach, (I have Crohn's) had to excuse myself...lol. Still paying for it this morning. I must remember that I don't need to eat that stuff...lol.

I agree Kate, so I try not to change the routine...lol. Weekends are very hard, seems I don't want to cook as much, and when I don't cook, I nibble.

Everyone have a great day,
Susann

Hi there KATE . . . so glad to have you joining us . . . this is a really fun place.

And a great good morning to everybody else, too . . . :grouphug:

It's very wet and windy around here and this stuff is supposed to continue for most of the coming week. Hey, it's definitely preferable to snow. I think I'd better go for some groceries later today, though, before all the puddles turn into swimming pools.

Happy to report that the blood sugar level is back to nice numbers this morning and I only seem to have about a half a pound of water weight left from my Thursday eating debacle. Luckily, when I have my food disasters in restaurants or other people's homes, I get back on track pretty quickly. If that delicious chocolate cake (or any of my other trigger foods) gets inside my house, it's an entirely different story. :s:

You snuck in there on me Susann . . . My SIL in Ontario drives a specialized school vehicle (disabled students). She's on the road before six every morning. My friend LouLou has celiac disease and has to be very careful of what she eats; sometimes she just says she has to have some real bread (wheat) and then she suffers big time for it; but she has decided it's worth it once in a while.
Hope everybody else has some fun stuff and some nice weather in your weekend . . . :carrot:

Good Morning Girls!
Our blizzard is suppose to hit tonight with lots of snow and predicted 40 mile an hour winds so I'm off to town for groceries, MIL and see my dad. Tomorrow I'll probably have to watch T.V. for my church service.
Susann...that's what I use, stock paper. Wal*Mart does have one called card stock, but it's the same thing as regular stock paper. If you make 1/2 fold cards which I do, the card stock is perfect. If you make the small 1/4 fold cards, you use regular light weight paper.(typewriter paper)
Bobbi and Isabella, what kind of paper do you use for your cards? Is there such a thing as greeting card paper that you can buy? I have card stock paper, that I sometimes use for my business cards, but isn't that too thick for greeting cards?
The PB2 is dehydrated peanut butter and it's delicious. You put 2 Tbls powder in 1 Tbls water and stir. It makes 2 tablespoons with only 53.2 calories, total fat is only 1.87 grams. You can also purchase chocolate PB2, either is great on roll-ups or anywhere you use peanut butter. I like to stir some into sugar free vanilla or choclate pudding. I first heard of it here on 3 FC, if you google it Bell Plantation, you can read all about it. You have to order 4 jars at a time but it goes quick. I'm on my 3 order (12 jars), I love it. I did asked my local Hy-Vee store to stock it and they did. Now I can purchased it locally.
Isabella...thanks for the recipe, I'll try it.
Hi everyone else, I gotta run into town now and get my errands finished.

Good Morning Everyone,

Get up and Move progress - last night I actually got up and moved every 3 hours. Didn't exercise (had done over 100 min at the gym in the morning), but I went into the kitchen & made some lo-fat/lo-carb foods; cleaned up the kitchen; went into my scrapbook room and started organizing. I actually got a lot done. Will try this again tonight.

Today, I'm going to try the local genealogical group meeting one more time. Was not very impressed with it last month, but the leaders are young & this was only their 2nd meeting. Maybe things will get more organized.

Am trying to increase my fiber. I think I overdid it yesterday. Had some bad bellyaches last night.

Happy Saturday,

Lynn

Susan, I just used regular copy paper for the cards as they were a four-fold and that's what they used for the thank you notes at the funeral home. I cut the paper into a 10 x 6.5 inch size so they matched the size as well.

Today I indulged or should I say overindulged in the cheesecake I made but it's only today. It wasn't a heavy cake as it only had one package of cream cheese and whipped topping. It was an unbaked cheesecake which tends to be lighter in calories compared to a New York style cake. That being said it was still many more calories than needed but I enjoyed it and I'm not eating any supper tonight (except for the last piece of cheesecake that I ate).

I weighed in this morning and although I'm up 1.5 from last month I'm relieved it isn't more. I'm sure I lost weight this week though because I was spot on with just about everything I did. So this coming week I'm sticking to my guns (or should I say my bike, etc.) and not letting anything stop me from losing this excess baggage. For I'm going to be Superwoman and bust all the fat into pieces. Ha, ha. I can do this and so can you.

I can't wait for the weather to warm up here. We are now getting rain mixed with snow! But I think it's more rain because it rained all day and now it's turning to snow as the temperature drops.

I'm going to attempt to jog/walk again. I stopped for awhile as my knees were telling their age and that didn't feel good. If it's nice tomorrow I may even try it outside. It's about time the neighbors were treated to my jog/walk routine again after a long winter. I'm a few pounds lighter than when I stopped my outside walk in the fall. I wonder how many of them will comment on that? I always get comments, ha, ha.

Catch you all later and hopefully a few ounces or grams lighter.

Good Morning, I know we all share good tips for exercise and eating, I received this in an email and thought that this was just too good a "TIP" not to share with everyone!!!

Exercise for those of us that understand the true geometry of body
and mind. Enjoy.

EXERCISE FOR PEOPLE OVER 60

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty
of room at each side. With a 5-lb potato bag in each hand, extend your
arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you
can.

Try to reach a full minute, and then relax.

Each day you'll find that you can hold this position for just a
bit
longer. After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato bag.

Then try 50-lb potato bags and then eventually try to get to
where you can lift a 100-lb potato bag in each hand and hold your
arms straight for more than a full minute. (I'm at this level.)

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag.

Jada1

Exercising every three hours seems to be helping my metabolism. It's interesting how I noticed my clothes getting loose on me, before I even lost the weight. I keep staring at the scale..I can't believe I weigh what I do. 3FC has really helped me.
Susann: Your comment about just smelling the muffins was funny. You have great will power to stay away from them.

retiredone

Karen31, ha, ha, ha, ha. My friend sent that one to me a few weeks ago and I was wondering how I'd ever hold out a 5 pound bag of potatoes. I got a good laugh out of that one.

I'm doing my BIL's taxes today and I'm stumped on one of the entries I have to make on his wife's form so I have to wait until tomorrow and phone the help line. So now I've got the rest of the afternoon to myself. I've got to help DS with his when he comes home. I rode my bike for an hour this morning but didn't get in my walk as it is raining outside. Maybe I'll try a jog around the house through the dining room kitchen and living room.

Anyway have a good day, chickies.

Good Morning Everyone,

Welcome Geminis! http://bestsmileys.com/welcome/1.gif

I hit the 149's this morning! First time I've been lower than the 150's since the day before Thanksgiving! I know it's just a low bounce, but I REALLY enjoyed seeing that number on my scale this morning.

Well, the "get up and move every three hours" program is working VERY well. My scrapbook room (aka my spare bedroom) is starting to get organized & my kitchen is neater than it usually is. Funny about the scrapbook room. I've been meaning to get that organized for months. However, until I connected that task with my weight loss goals, I never quite got around to it. Just shows me what I value most. Definitely weight loss over organization.

Pretty rainy here today. Glad I got out to walk yesterday.

Have a good day everyone,

Hello all,

Is a sunny day here ~ a little chilly. Was in the 40's this morning when I got off work. Is supposed to get down in the 30's tonight.

Off work for a couple nights now ~ yippee!!

Waiting to hear from my sister ~ she sent me the materials to make her a tote bag. Got it done and sent it back ~ I hope she likes it.

Had a nice weekend. Friday I babysat Maddie ~ in the afternoon took her for a walk in her stroller. It was such a nice day. I think we were gone about 45 minutes. My husband and I are going to be watching her every other week to try to help my daughter and her husband save some on the child care expenses. I think I am going to try to take her for a walk every afternoon ~ weather permitting ~ will be good for both of us.

Corbin came over Saturday afternoon/evening ~ we watched movies and played games and visited. He stayed the night then. He is such a sweetheart ~ I just love spending time with him.

Lynn ~ how does that every 3 hour thing you are doing work? Does getting up out of the chair and doing some chore around the house count, or do you have to do some kind of exercise? My bones/joints stiffen up so quickly, I feel sometimes like I need to get up every 10 minutes ~ LOL.

Guess I'd better get to doing something then.

Take care

Everyone have a great day in the neighborhood!

Hi Susann,

When I made your zucchini muffins, I could not find muffin top pans so I made in regular muffin pans. I just ordered some. These things will be even better in those pans.

Take care

Hi Gayle,

Yes - that's what I'm doing. Every 3 hours I get up out of my tv chair and tackle some kind of task - one that is not done sitting down.

According to the research summary, if we don't move in 4 hours, an enzyme that fights fat and cholesterol stops working. It didn't say we needed to exercise - just get up out of chair and move.

Hi Gemini, I just had a look at the Rooster. Ha, ha. We do have a few roosters around the boards. They pop up every now and again and add interest to an almost all female perspective.

Check over in diet central. You might find something there that might strike your fancy. Can't say it will be the Aphrodisiac diet but there will be many diets. I'm a calorie counter and find that to be the best for me but everyone here is doing different things--some South Beach, calorie counters, low fat, low carbs--well you name it and someone is doing it. Whatever works. So my chubby little chick stick around and we'll help to get you airborne or just up on your feet doing a bit of exercise before you fly.

I've been spending a few hours on the Hillbilly Housewife site. Quite interesting. Lot's of money saving tips and recipes that are easily cut down in calories/fats/etc. Anyone been there yet? Here a link http://www.hillbillyhousewife.com/index1.htm I'm making the rice pancakes in the recipe section as I still have some instant brown rice I want to use up and these looked good for tomorrow morning. Now all I have to do is get up so I can make them for DH and DS before they go to work.

OK, ladies that was the post I thought posted last night but I just left it in the message window and didn't hit "post quick reply"....Where's my head??? I did get up this morning and made the rice pancakes. They were nice but nothing out of the ordinary but I did use up some of that rice. I have about 1.5 cups left. I served the pancakes with syrup and canned peaches and sliced bananas. Another reason I made pancakes is because I had no bread in the house and not as much as a grain of yeast to make any. I was going to the store yesterday but I didn't as I got so involved reading the above site that the store was closed by the time I stirred off the couch.

Lynn, you must feel great breaking into the 140s. Way to go girl. You keep jumping up every three hours. I should do that if not for the exercise but for the jobs that I could tackle. I tend to do a little here and there and when the day is over it doesn't look like I did anything.

I tried something different today. I was going to make Sloppy Joes for dinner tomorrow and decided to add some cooked lentils to the mixture. The Sloppy Joe mixture turned out very nice and the lentils and veggie burger made a nice filling sandwich. Of course we won't eat them til tomorrow but I tasted the filling and it looked nice and thick too. I'll give you the final verdict tomorrow after we eat. This must be lentil month at my house, ha, ha.

Catch you all later.

Hello Gemini-----the thread link that I told you about is:

Hopefully that will come through and it really is a fun thread!! I don't know if any of you other GG's have checked this one out but it is just silly and no particular topic... Sometimes it is just so nice to have plain old randomness!!

Well hello miss brassy gemini chick.....lol..welcome to the forum, this is a great place, and I have a sneaking feeling that it's about to get even a bit more lively...lol. You certainly have a way with words, and good luck on finding the aphrodisiac diet.......when you find, send it my way...

I got my walk in today, then we had a horrible thunderstorm, i ate good today, and hope my scales reflect that tomorrow morning...

Karen31, I guess I should add the holding potato sacks to my exercise routine....lol.

Hope everyone has a great week ahead.......

Susann

Thank you for your warm welcome and the kind words, Susan...they mean a lot when you're the new kid on the block.

I admit, as I'm grinning a big ole proud smile, that I am indeed wordy, to put it mildly. Momma used to say that I never talked back, I filibustered! Obviously I have some long term issues to resolve with my mouth--poor portion control whether I'm eating, or talking/writing. ;)

I'm (attempting to be) a low carber--what's your diet "flavor" of choice?

Thanks again,

Welcome gemini younger and elder..you sound like alot of fun..Mt Redoubt erupted again but we didnt get ashed this time..dh took me to see it from the beach pretty awsome across the water steaming away..i had agreat weekend and hope you all did too  rosey

Your kind welcome is much appreciated: it made me smile and you know that's what I am all about--smiles and miles of smiles.

Seeing Mt Redoubt blowing its top sounds like a sight to be remembered, especially since you shared the experience on a beautiful beach with your husband at your side. But I imagine it was also humbling to see Nature uncorked in such a powerful way, and somewhat frightening. At least that's the way I felt seeing the aftermath of the Mount St. Helen's eruption up close and personal all those years ago.

Thank you again for your gracious hello. I'll be watching for your posts.

And here's yet another Golden Girl who seems to smile long and often and is happy to share her friendliness and encouragement with a Newbie.

You are right, of course, when you say any nugget of information about changing one's nutritional lifestyle can be mined right here on the 3Cs site. Its depth of information, numbers of members, and respect for the science of weight loss, as well as the psychology, mentality, spirituality, and homeostasis of physical and emotional change, are the reasons I'm registered here at 3 Fat Chicks On A Diet. Underscored, of course, by the very powerful benefits to be reaped from a sense of community purpose and the bonding experience with similarily motivated people.

Thank you for making me welcome.

Well, hello there and :welcome: to both of our Gemini Twins. This is a fun place and you will receive lots and lots of ongoing support all over the 3FC site . . . BUT . . . we do have a pretty big and heavy-booted group of chickens around here who take the rules and regs you signed up for pretty seriously. So just a little word to the wise, ladies . . . big sister is watching.

I don't know how I missed your post yesterday when I was going down the thread writing thank you notes. As I am almost pathologically non confrontational, I welcome your "little word to the wise," especially if it spares me a drop-in visit from "heavy booted" storm trooper chickens. :o I understand that a group this size must be strict about enforcing rules so I will go back and reread the regs so that I do not transgress in the future. Additionally I have deleted all posts except those written in appreciation to people who welcomed me to the Golden Girls, including you, Meowee.

Thank you again for (hopefully) preventing a raid on the Gemini Twins' Chicken Ranch. ;)

Good Morning girls . . . :grouphug:

Well, it's raining again . . . :lol3: . . . and the weight took a little upward blip this morning even though the blood sugar is back down to tolerable and yes, I washed the rest of the Cool Whip down the drain -- must stay away from Frankenfoods, for sure, for sure.

In other words -- SSDD in northeastern Nova Scotia -- but the Cormorants are back to their favoured nesting place beside the harbour so Spring (and likely one more snowstorm) is definitely on the horizon.

Good Morning ladies,

wooooohooooo lynn, way to go girl........and....I don't even remember where I found that recipe, I saw it and thought of you, so I copied it. Why don't you go ahead and post it in the recipe thread above, I haven't even baked them. You post it in your name, ok? And where did you find the muffin top pan? I have several recipes that I make for Mother that would be good in that pan.

I found the other lost pound this morning.......YIPPPPEEEEE, I'm changing my weekly weigh in day to Tuesday...hahaha. I have started eating heavier at lunchtime, and very light in the evening. Last night I just had a big bowl of Bran Flakes with strawberries.

I don't remember if I told you about the bus driver that I work with. She is on the Reverse Diet....that's where she eats a big breakfast, and big lunch, and very light at night and 2 snacks a day. She says that she eats anything she wants, but does try to be reasonable. She has lost quite a bit of weight, she says it is working for her.

My heart monitor watch has been shipped, and I should be getting it within the next couple of days. I'm anxious to see if it helps me want to burn more calories in a day.

As one gemini to another gemini the younger, I think mouthy is just one of our special traits....lol. You can ask these ladies.....when I do a post, it is usually miles long....lol.

Well, time to get my day started....can you believe it, my first post of the day is at 7:05 am instead of 4:15 or 4:30 am......lol......I love spring break!!

Oh meowee, thank you for your dental sympathy......lol.....it was fine, although I do have a small cavity, yuck, yuck, yuck!!!

Good Morning everyone,

We still have snow on the ground from yesterday. But, good news, it has stopped snowing. I am so ready for some warmer weather. The kids are supposed to practice soccer Wed., dont' know if that is going to happen.

Welcome Geminis. Always happy to get another point of view, and your point of view will be a colorful one i'm pretty sure. All of us here are on different diet plans. I count calories and i'm sure there are some beaches in here too. But we all cheer each other on. We are family. Welcome to the family.

Lynn, You go girl!!! Looks like you found something that works for you. And, in addition, you're getting a lot of work done. It's a win, win!

Susan, you can find those muffin top pans online. If you just google it you will come up with a couple of links for them. And isn't the top of the muffin the best part?

Glynne, i'm glad you had fun with the kids. I keep my grandkids 2 days a week too and wouldn't miss it for anything!

OOPS, I spoke too soon, it's snowing again!

Make it a good day,
Freda

Hello chickies. I had my delicious Sloppy Joes made with the lentils and veggie burger. I believe they tasted better than any I have ever made before. The lentils really added a new dimension to the mixture. Actually you'd hardly know they were there like you might a bean. They blended right in with the veggie burger. I served them on ww English muffins which also gave a different texture from the regular hamburger bun. I just used a can of sloppy Joe sauce that I had hanging around in the cupboard, added onions and green, red, yellow and orange pepper to the mix, and the veggie burger and lentils. I sauteed the onions and pepper and then simmered the whole "mess" until it thickened a bit. So good. Now, what else can I do with lentils? Soup for sure.

I never got on my bike yesterday. I was dead tired from the night before. Mom was up most of the night (on and off) so that meant so was I and most of the family. We all looked very tired yesterday, except for mom who naps during the day. Last night I never had the energy to get on the bike and went to bed. I slept like a rock until 3 am when I heard mom. DH said he'd been up with her at 2 but I never heard a sound or heard DH get out of bed. She slept until 6:30 after so everyone got a much better nights rest. Anyway I'll get on my bike either this afternoon or tonight watching tv. If the show is especially interesting I hardly know I'm peddling. If it's a rerun I'm more aware of the bike.

The weather is misty but it's unusually bright out there now for a misty day. Must be a break in the sky. Most of the snow is gone-just small piles of dirty stuff on the middle of lawns. We'll probably get more snow but nothing that will stay long.

I'm watching Martha Stewart make Easter Eggs with silk covered eggs. That's my kind of egg. No chocolate. Wish I had some scrap silk material. I'd try that out.

Susan, I had friends who always ate their large meal at breakfast. They felt it was much better for the digestive system to go lighter at night. As I remember you'd need a medical test to find any excess fat on their bodies.

Hi Cindy. Join right in. We'll help you get your life style change in order. It's not a diet if you have to do it the rest of your life.

Have a good day all.

Evening all.....Why did you send the cold air South? Gesh, I took a midnight swim Sunday night and last night slept under 2 blankets. Record chill tonight then back to 80's for the rest of the week.

Am having a royal hissy fit. The 2 bridge clubs merged and my club the larger and more profitable club, won most of the election of officers. Then thru some kinda sneaky move, our game manager was replaced. I had told them that without Bev as manager, who I know has my back, I will not direct. So yesterday I made it offical and refused to sign up for anymore games. I will do the 17th of April and that's all. 2 other directors said the same thing. We are the ones who have been doing the hugh games of 27-28 tables. Since the way to most bridge players is thru their stomachs, bettcha I'll be hearing complaints soon. This whole thing is like something that happens in high school....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Welcome new chicks.....

Took a few days off and just hanging around the house. Driving the dog insane. He's a Greman(wirehair) and when routines get changed he gets crazy. He kept coming and poking me and pulling me. We finally figured out it my not leaving. Guess I should have driven around the block to settle dog's mind.

Isabella....Do lentils do what beans do? My mother made lentil soup years ago and ox tail soup with lentils.....hmmm with this cold snap sounds good.

Lynn.....wow! (2lbs) Glad you have broken the cycle. I jumped up every 3 hours last night and got all kinds of little things done. Like wash folded.

Finished the book "Water the Elephants". I usually donate all my new books immediately to the library, but think I'll stuff this one in a bookcase and save to reread. It was that good.

DD and SIL have 7 more days until they retire and move to NC. Movers are actually loading next Tuesday. The house pictues show even the floors in the new house are done and gas fireplace is in. She is beyond excited.

gotta dig out my microfiber threw and curl up with another book. Nothing on tv anymore.......Hugs, Karen3

I've been too busy to read or post until this afternoon. Congrats are in order for you Lynn on the delightful 149.8 scale weight.
Congrats to Linda and Susann too! If I missed someone because of speed reading the post, I'm sorry.
Glynne...I babysat for both my grandsons full time for free to help out. I have many wonderful memories and it was great fun, the only down side was traveling 10 miles daily to pick them up. Tiffany would drive out to get them after work, that helped. Lots of times I'd have their supper cooked up for them to take home which she always appreciated.
Isabella...that was a very interesting site (Hillybilly's), I could have spent a couple of hours there. Instead I put it in my favorites and will look it over better when I have time. I watched the Martha Stewart show today too, the dyed eggs using silk scarves were beautiful. But who has expensive silk scarves to cut up?
Karen3..........Geeeeeeeeeeeeeze, give me a break:p I don't feel sorry for you with the balance of the week getting up to 80 degrees. You should live in the snow belt and sleep under many blankets:D

Yeah!!! for Karen31. So glad you'll be moving where you want to live. You've certainly had a wild ride with real estate. We'll be looking forward to the pics.

Karen3, Yes, lentils are just like beans, at least in my digestive system. I'm expecting high winds by tomorrow morning.

Bobbi, I know what you mean about silk scarves or anything like that. I suppose if I had the time or I should say the freedom I'd have a look at the goodwill but no guarantee I'd find a suitable silk piece with a nice pattern. But I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for old silk ties and scarves next time I get a chance to go to a goodwill or second hand store and buy them for next Easter.

I've been at the Hillbilly Housewife site again today and I'm going to try the "Bean, Cheese and Rice Squares" which sound really good and I'll get to use more of the instant brown rice my MIL gave me. I'm not particularly fond of the instant rice to use on its own as a side dish. I do like parboiled brown rice though. I believe I read somewhere that the humble kidney bean (which is used in this recipe) is the most flatulent of all the legumes. So the high winds will continue.

See you all tomorrow.

Hi Jada,

Take a look at the bottom of my message in the April Accountability thread. I have what I call my "bounce chart." Shows how many days each month I am at a particular weight (I do not count the tenth of pounds - just the whole numbers). I pop up and down every day. Two days ago I was at 149, yesterday I was at 151, today I'm back to 149. It's the trend over the month that counts - NOT the day to day fluctuations.

Hang in there,

Good Morning, It is a beautiful sunny day here today. We only have 31 degrees right now but it isn't snowing!! In fact we have fire warnings out!

Susann, we haven't sold our house yet here in Colorado but this deal was jsut to good to pass up. In fact, we had pretty much decided to not even look anymore until this one sold WHEN this one appeared!! It is 3 bdrm. 2 1/2 bath 2 car attached garage with a 1 car carport attached too. Pretty much the same sq. footage we have here PLUS an inground pool. So we decided to take the leap and do it anyway. It seems like the housing market is starting to pick up some here. We live very close to Cripple Creek, CO. and they are adding 500 jobs to their community this month. Mostly casino jobs but I can't help but feel some of them will be needing a house close by and either have cash or good credit!! So saying lots of Prayers and it would be just wonderful if this one sold before we have the closing on the one in MO. It is possible.

Freda, My Dad is doing some better, Thanks so much for asking. He did get into the skilled nursing facility and was doing pretty good. Then he ended up with that MRSA!! So after he was getting used to (and liked) his room mate he had to be in isolation. That was about 3 weeks ago. Now the MRSA is pretty much under control but a new bacteria has shown up in his urine so he still has to be in isolation for a while longer. And there is a spot, about the size of your little fingernail, on his incision that is still open and seeping. They took him to the Dr. on Monday for that and packed it and gave him more meds. for it. He will need to see the Dr. again on Friday. So this has really been hard on him... My Dad has always had such a wonderful personality and everyone loves him and he loves to be around people. Hopefully, they can get him back on track and be able to get his stronger.

So you can see why I am so happy about finally finding a house back there that we like and in our price range. We are planning to go back there this coming week and do a walk through and inspection on the house-- just to make sure we don't find anything major wrong with it. I don't anticipate anything though. My Aunt went over with my brother and she said she really liked it and she would move in without any hesitation. That is high praise!!

So I am starting to get things better organized.. I already have a lot of our things packed, enough to where it looks like we live in a motel! But I am going to go ahead and pack as much as I can now and just keep out the bare minumum! We'll probably be living out of suitcases for a while here!

OK, Gosh, I didn't intend to write a book! Guess I'd better get this day started..

Good Morning!
I'm just going to do a quick sign into the 'Accountability' thread and answer Susann's question.
I have a pink cuisinart popcorn maker, Bruce uses oil in it and I use butter flavored Pam spray for fat free popcorn. What makes mine tasty is the 'Kernel Season's Popcorn Spritzer. It's a zero fat, zero calorie butter spray that makes seasonings stick to the popcorn. I also have a few of their seasonings. I have Sour Cream & Onion, Caramel, white cheddar, kettle corn, ranch, chocolate marshmallow, parmesan & garlic, and nacho cheddar. The ranch is my favorite!
I eat a bowl of popcorn every night with one of these calorie free seasonings on it. I purchased some of them at Wal*Mart but they only carried a few so I ordered a bunch on-line. www.NoMoreNakedPopcorn.com (http://www.NoMoreNakedPopcorn.com)

Morning ladies,

My schedule is a bit mixed up today and that is when I run into trouble getting my exercise in. Anyone else have that problem? On routine days, I do fine. I did buy a pedometer this morning and a water bottle. Baby steps, but hopefully helpful ones.

Karen, I used to live in Colorado. Loved it! Good luck on selling your home.

I've learned to budget my calories like I budget my money. I can't eat all I want, anymore than I can spend all I want.

That's a great attitude. I think I'll borrow that.

Cindy, everyone has days when everything is off schedule. For goodness sake I've been off schedule since Christmas and just when I was getting back on track my FIL got sick and died and our darling little grandson was born in the midst of all that trouble. I thought I'd be back to a regular exercise schedule by now but so many things need tending to with my FIL & MIL's business that some days are complete write-offs. Today is one of them. It's the complete journey that counts. Sometimes there are detours but the destination is the same and eventually we will get there.

As I said today is an off day for exercise. I had to go to my MIL's place today and get her to sign a few papers and then I decided I needed to go to town when DH gets home from his last bus run so instead of changing into exercise clothing I stayed in my jeans and t-shirt awaiting DH. I might get my bike done if I'm not too tired when I get home. I'm supposed to do my circuit workout but I'll be so tired afterwards I won't want to shop and I need things for the weekend.

The weekend is going to be just grand. DS, DIL and Baby are coming for the Easter weekend and I can't wait to get the baby in my arms. He is growing so much in just a month. Today he is 4 weeks old and on Saturday he'll be a proper month old from his birth date. I want to pick up a few Easter eggs (really good ones and not many) and a few groceries. And I just want to go somewhere by myself without any responsibilities of taking care of anyone for a few hours.

The weather is so nice today. The thermometer outside the window is at 18 degrees C, which is about 68 degrees F so it is glorious for this time of the year. The sun is even shining in between the sun showers. I have windows open and the warm wind is blowing through the house.

Martha Stewart is doing her thing there on the TV and I'm just ignoring her until something catches my eye. Nothing yet. But today I made the Cheese, Bean and Rice casserole from the Hillbilly Housewife site. It was like a savory rice pudding and very delicious. I'm going to make it again this weekend but instead of kidney beans I'm going to use black beans and serve it with salsa.

Susan, I've always wanted a watch like yours. Glad it's working so well for you.

Well, now you have another chapter in my life. Have a good day and catch you later.

Wanted to drop by a give a quick hello to all.
I'm still hanging in, losing very very slowly....but as many have said...it's a journey not a race....so plodding on. I'm taking a lot of comfort in finally finding a program that I can stick with for life. I'm not feeling deprived at this point and feel like most days I have control. Still need to work on the portions, but that's a battle that will never go away I'm afraid. And trying to fit that exercise in too.....seems as though I'm in good company with that.
It's finally getting warm here. Hope everybody is enjoying life!:carrot:
My DMIL dementia/alzheimers is getting a bit worse. I makes me want to slow down and enjoy the little things in life....hang in there.:D

Hi girls: Had a rough time since my gallbladder surgery, nothing to do with the surgery. Ended up with a stomach bug that lasted five days, then I found out that due to a heart issue I have to eat low fat, lower blood pressure, etc. The good news if I get some things under control the doctor believes the damage done will repair itself. I wanted to find a forum for low fat but the only one was fat smash and I just want to do my own thing, no particular plan, just cut the fat and portions. So far I have lost fifty pounds so must be doing something right! :carrot:

Gonna try to catch up some, but won't go all the way back.

Hope everyone is doing okay. Have a good day.

:goodvibesThanks for your support everybody

I wrote the butter spray on my grocery list.
A friend told me a long time ago she lost her weight with mangos, but I never tried it. I bought the frozen mango pieces and tried it last night, and it worked. It suppressed my hunger pretty quick.
I also read where walking and exercise is a natural appetite suppressant. I always thought of walking as a way to tone body muscles, not to help control eating. That motivates me even more to walk and exercise.
I wrote it on my calendar to watch The Biggest Losers next Tuesday.

Hugs, Jada

Good Morning ladies,

I just love all the tips that we get from each other. Until I read your post Jada, about walking and exercising controlling hunger, I didn't put 2 and 2 together. I have been walking faithfully, and exercising faithfully, and my appetite has really gone down. I sometimes don't even think about having a snack, and when dinner time comes around, a bowl of cereal is enough for me. I attributed that to my stomach shrinking, but it might be a combination of the two.

Ok ladies, I'm gonna share a secret with you all. Before I started this on March 2, I was literally squeezing all of my boobs into a 42DD bra. Now, NOW, it's getting tooo big..........YEAH!!! I don't care if they all go away, far far far away. Big boobs are definitely NOT what they are cracked up to be.

Karen31, I'm glad that things are picking up in Colorado, it seems when things pick up in other places, they pick up here too. We have so many people who would love to retire and come here, but they can't sell their home where they are, such as up north, California, and even Florida. But, we have noticed the housing market picking back up some here. Several of our listings are being shown a lot, but I'm afraid the financing is going to be the kicker for awhile. I hope your house sells very soon, and your new house sounds fantastic. If you know of anyone wanting to move to Barkley Lake in KY, send them my way!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, gotta get my workout done.......LOVE the watch, btw, I burned 208 calories during my workout, then burned another 200 during my walk. We added some power mile segments to our walk, and that really helped. We would pick out something that was far enough away to give us a good power walk, and go for it. It really kicked our walk up, and we both felt great afterwards. When you have that watch on, you can't help but want your calorie burn to keep going up up up!!!...lol.

Oh, and btw, I ordered 5 of the popcorn seasonings that Bobbi told me about. That website has a special, buy 4, get the 5th free. I ordered the spritz and seasonings....can't wait to try them, THANKS BOBBI! I'm a popcorn fool!!

Everyone have a great day in the neighborhood.

Okay . . . I'm officially in a bad mood . . . even though the sun is shining . . . just finished my taxes and wrote an over $5,000.00 cheque to the Canadian Revenue service. Happens about this time every year, but that doesn't make it any easier.

Other than that, life is doing fine. The cats are going crazy (full moon tonight). Going out for lunch today and will try (but likely not as hard as I should) to avoid fattening stuff.

See you later. :carrot:

What's with the mango? I just googled it and see it's considered a comfort food, maybe that's why it helps curb hunger. I'm going to pick up one next time I go to the store. Do you just skin it, cut into chunks and freeze?

Why they're good for you

Mangos have the highest amount of beta carotene of any fruit. They are also high in fiber, but low in calories (approx. 110 per average sized mango), fat (only 1 gram) and sodium, so make a great low-calorie snack. They are an excellent source of vitamins A and C, and potassium.
Mangos are also said to contain an enzyme with stomach soothing properties similar to papain found in papayas. This might act as a digestive aid and give you the good feelings associated with “comfort foods”.

A friend told me a long time ago she lost her weight with mangos, but I never tried it. I bought the frozen mango pieces and tried it last night, and it worked. It suppressed my hunger pretty quick.

Morning ladies,

I got a brisk 20-25 minute walk in yesterday. I gave up on programming my new pedometer.:o Too techno for me, I guess. I drank more water than usual too and it actually tasted good. One bad piece of news...I weighed myself at DD's on her digital scale and I weighed over 7 pounds heavier than at home. I am trying to process this. OMG! It's discouraging.

Good morning Everyone,

OK - I have officially crossed the line - last night I dreamed about exercising! I wonder if you can burn calories exercising in your dreams?

Getting ready for this weekend's camping trip. ALL my family - sister, daughter, nieces/nephews and their spouses are meeting at a nearby camp ground for a Birthday (mine on Saturday)/Holiday weekend camping trip.

I decorated Easter bags for everyone yesterday at scrapping. Today I bought all kinds of high calorie/carb stuff to fill them. Hopefully, I will restrict my high calorie/carb eating to a SMALL piece of my birthday cake.

Bobbi, did you want BL to vote off Helen or Sione? I was hoping that Helen would go - I HATED the fact that she sent her daughter home instead of herself. Oh well, at least Sione got to go home to his family.

Check back later,

Lynn

Bobbi: I bought my Mango in the frozen fruit section of the store. It's by "Organics". It's already peeled, and cut into pieces for ready to eat. My friend said she ate the dried Mango, but all the dried Mango I looked at had sugar added to it, so I bought the frozen. When I Googled Mango, I found it listed as a natural appetite suppressant. I'll have to see if I can find it again. Being a comfort food sounds good too.

Hello everybody, I walked today and when I finish at the computer, I'm going to spend the day at the library reading magazines.
I have a couple of friends who had breast reductions because of problems with their backs. I have other problems, but that's not one of them.

I'm going to make a couple batches of the crispy cornmeal scones to take over for our Easter celebration plus a yummy fattening fruit salad recipe I heard on the radio. It calls for crushed Keebler chocolate strip cookies, cool whip, pineapple, mandarin oranges, buttermilk and vanilla pudding. I have to use all full calories foods because some people don't like artificial sweetners. What's everyone going to have? Are you just going to watch it like me or actually count every calories/carb you put in your mouth? We're getting together with my two bros/1 sis and spouses, dad and neice/nephews so we'll have a wide variety of tempthing foods to eat.
Catch ya tomorrow, happy birthday Lynn.

Hi all....just a quicky. We are having our annual bridge tournament Thurs, Fri and Sat. Really a dumb weekend to have it, but that was what Memphis offered us. Doing poor than great than poor and great......Driving back and forth and playing from 10am until 6:30 leaving me brain dead. Must admit to a great moment which I will remember forever.....playing aginst one of the top pro's in country....he bid 3 hearts and my partner doubled for me to bid and I choose to leave it in. She almost died, but trusted me and we set them 500. He said boy U2 aren't afraid of us! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh WOW!
Off to bed....hugs, Karen3

Good Morning ladies,

Happy belated birthday Lynn, hope your camping trip was loads of fun.

Ok, meowee, I'm going to steal a phrase.....I am officially........depressed. My weight and exercise are doing fine, but things are not good at home, and I'm really sick of it. I need to make some extra money, at home, so that I can continue to stay home with mother. Would be silly for me to pay someone 10/hr to stay with mother, and me make 8/hr somewhere. Anyone got any ideas? I'm thinking after school daycare, K thru 3rd or 4th grade, they can ride the bus with me, and I'll keep them until 6 or 6:30, but probably can't get that done until next year. Any other brainstorms out there??????

Ok, going to get up and get my workout done, maybe that will help my mood.

Everyone have a wonderful Easter, we're not doing anything special, but will be glad on Monday when I weigh in...lol.

Yippee, the weight and the blood sugar have gone back where they belong after that Thursday excursion into the world of salty chinese food. But, it's beginning to look like the forecasters are going to be right -- definitely not as nice looking a day today.

I love mango but never thought of it as having any special properties -- just very sweet tasting and although I'm not all that fond of pineapple, it would probably be great with mango.

Hope your birthday weekend is wonderful, Lynn.

Oh my Karen, I haven't played tournament bridge in years and years but can imagine your glory . . . I can also imagine your partner's feeling of impending heart failure too.

Oh my Susann . . . the only things I can think of would be . . . doing some telephone solicitation work (if you can handle the stress of people hanging up on you or yelling at you) . . . maybe you could ask around with local businesses and see if there would be any data entry type work . . . is there a University nearby where you might find some students looking for someone to type (and correct spelling and punctuation) in assignments. Good luck.

Hope everybody is having a great Saturday . . .

Karen, congratulations on your new home. It's always exciting to find that special home.
Karen3, Impressive move at bridge. You sound like a pro. People keep telling me to learn bridge, but it looks intimidating. When asked to join a bridge game, I've studied it on the Internet, but I can't get up the nerve to try it.
Susann, if it was me, I think I would inquire with the state elderly social services and see what support is available for caretakers. I would also go to the state employment office and see if I was eligible for unemployment benefits, because I was unable to work due to caretaker responsibilities, and they might have ideas on work at home. I would also look for a local caretaker support group to join. They might give me ideas on how to make it financially. I wish you the best.
Meowee, I don't like to weigh myself either after eating meals laden with salt.

Good morning everyone!

Happy Easter to all, I hope you have a wonderful day today!

Sorry that I got on here yesterday and let my down mood show, but I appreciate the good information that you all gave me. It gave me some good ideas to pursue, which I will be starting tomorrow.

I got up yesterday morning, did my walk and strength, then walked with friend, did my day, then another friend, J, called last night, and wanted to go take a walk, so we did that too. (We walk and talk on the phone together), so yesterday was a great day for exercise and relieving stress. J is coming this morning at 6 to take a walk in person, so will be another great day.

Well, spring break has come and gone, and now it's back to work tomorrow, I would rather be on a schedule, it's easier that way to fit everything in.

Everyone have a great week ahead!

Good morning and Happy Easter all....Hope it it a pretty day at your house.

Tournament finished up yesterday by 5:30 and we had played swiss teams with a lovely couple from NY. And won our flight! I know I go on and on about duplicate bridge, but it is so good for us seniors. It is brain stirring and social stirring. Besides you can go anywhere in the world(or online) and play with people without speaking the language. The national organization has been working for years to make players more pleasant to others with a program called Zero Tolerance. You can actually be kicked out for being nasty. It is getting so effective, would like to start it in Congress!

Jada...Most ACBL bridge clubs offer lessons locally and really welcome new people. You can play with other newbies. A couple of lessons and 2-3 games and you'll be hooked for life. Thats what happened to me.

Just talked to DD and they are all packed and living out of a suit case. The mover comes Tuesday and they leave Wed morning. She says the freezer is in the horse trailer plugged into extension cord so they just load the horses and hope to remember to pull the plug and they are off.

Has anyone baked a sheet cake? I borrowed a pan that takes to 2 boxes of mix, but forgot to ask how long it takes to bake the cake. Have a 97th birthday coming up Friday.

May be a holiday, but have to play catch up here today....off to the grocery store.....mango and ham sounds good....Karen3

Lynn...you sound exactly like me, I'm a ALL OR NOTHING DIETER.
So I had ham, two kinds of salads, two kinds of scones, cheesy hashbrown potatoe bake, marshmellowed yams, choclate breading pudding and raspberry cheesecake. Did I count calories? Duh! I forgot to weight myself this morning. I didn't think about it until after I'd eaten my banana/yogurt/Fiber One cereal. So I'm guessing I'm up about two pounds. But the ham was very salty, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Hi Everyone,

Hope you had a lovely Easter. I was supposed to work but got a L/C day on saturday. So, at the last moment we made plans for dinner with the kids. The grands came over and we had our annula egg hunt and played with the new WII. Then The kids came over and we had dinner. I did eat a bit too much but not so much junk. I didn't have time to plan an Easter dinner so we BBQ'd steak. I just had steak, small baked potato and salad. so, not awful.

Lynn, I don't know if I will ever learn moderation either, but I do always make an effort to eat healthy. That is the one thing I can commit to. Not saying that I don't have dessert, but that I do in moderation!!

Karen, I've never played Bridge but you make it sound so interesting. I really don't have time now but when I finally retire I'm going to find one of those clubs! something to look forward to.

Susann, you can rant all you want. We all do sometimes. That's what friends are for.

Jada, One day does not make or break a diet. When you go over board just make up for it the next week. It takes 3000 extra calories to gain a pound. Most of our "over's" aren't nearly that. Especially if we get right back on.

Bobbi, Well, the ham is full of salt. I believe your story. ha!

Good Morning!
I'm watching Regis/Kelly right now and see Regis has my cold. Last Thursday nite I got sick with the same yukky cold. Bruce spent part of the week outside planting more raspberries, aspargus and a new peach tree to replace the one that died last summer. I was so hoping he wouldn't get my cold and ruin our family get together for Easter, but he did. I was over it by Sunday so I went to the party by myself, have any of you gotten this nasty virus?
Linda...I see you're down a pound on the Acct' thread, nice going! Sorry to hear about your new snow fall, is Nova Scotia always late for spring to arrive up there?
Freda...Good job on staying OP over Easter. I put our Wii Console/Games up for sale on Ebay, it was so very expensive and I didn't use it. Bruce can't use it because of medications he's on. I'm hoping to get $200.00 for it which is less than 1/2 of what I paid for it. I gave my Wii Fit Board/disk to our daughter and they love it. I actually like the Wii fit, it was fun to exercise to but just took tooooooooooooo long. Do you have the Wii fit Freda?
Lynn...hope your scale was kinder to you this morning, I'm sure you didn't gain 5 pounds, some of it must be water retention so hang in there.
Hi Susann, Karen3, Jada, who am I missing here. Oh, Isabella! What's going on with you Isabella, you haven't checked in lately on the Acct' thread. I haven't checked in myself today, I better get over there now. See ya all!

:DGood morning everybody
Susann, I hope you went down another pound :bravo:
The Slim Me, Thanks for the information on how many calories it takes to gain weight.
Karen: You make bridge sound like so much fun. It would make me feel more at ease if I started with other people who were beginners.
Meowee: Too bad about the snow flurries.
CindyGail: It's a shame your grandson became ill. I hope he's feeling better. Thanks for the idea of eating heaviest meal in the morning. It really helped. My weight bounced back up, but I think it's a combination of my body being sensitive to salt, and my body wanting rest from weight loss (and too many jelly beans).
Bobbi: I keep wanting to buy game systems, but they cost so much (for me) that I worry I'll buy them and then won't use them. I bought a treadmill once and I hardly used it. I enjoy going to the gym rather than exercising at home.
I've been busy deleting chapters in my book, that I have put off for a long time. I knew I had to do it, but it's like letting go of old friends. Sometimes I wish I had never started the book, but since I've started, I can't stop.

Freda, thank you, got a feeling I'm gonna need a place to rant and rave......lol
And, I also didn't know how much "over" it took to gain a pound. That's great to know. Can you tell me where to go to find out about facts like that?

Jada, thanks, but no extra pound yet, but still at 172, so not up either...:)

I didn't get up to walk before bus route yesterday. Didn't sleep well, couldn't drag myself out of the bed. We have a neighborhood beagle that chases rabbits all night, and if any of you have heard a beagle chasing rabbits, you know what I'm dealing with. I'm going to have to talk to the owners, because I'm getting about 4 hrs of sleep a night, I just get to sleep and here it comes again. I'm sure the rest of the neighborhood is fit to be tied. Good thing is the kids that own the beagle ride my bus, so I can tell the parents that I'm not awake and alert enough on 4 hrs of sleep to drive safely for their kids, which is the truth.

Hi to everyone else this morning, hope all is well with you too!

Ok, off to do my workout. Everyone have a great day!

Hi Freda, I don’t know, sounds like moderation to me. I do great when I’m alone and in total control of what kind of food is in my house. Or, when I’m with others who eat the way I do. I totally lose it when I’m with those who eat differently.

Oh yuck . . . a little coating of white fluff is covering the dirty looking grass roots today and the little tips still sticking through look nice and green. Trouble is, today's forecast is calling for more flurries. Tiresome. When I think of April Shower, I think of rain not snow. Off to the doctor this morning; then a few odds and ends to pick up. Nothing very exciting though.
Hi Linda,
Good luck with the doctor.

Good Morning!
Lynn...hope your scale was kinder to you this morning, I'm sure you didn't gain 5 pounds, some of it must be water retention so hang in there. See ya all!
Hi Bobbi,
Yes, I was down 2.5 lbs yesterday. I guess the salt in the ham/chocolate was the culprit on Monday.

I made a big Easter dinner and no one showed up. Grandson got sick so DD could not make it. Understandable but....yikes - the leftovers. I was brave and weighed myself this morning. No loss of course but no weight gain either. I am still walking daily. It's a bit boring but necessary.
Hi Cindy,
Congratulations on maintaining over the Holiday weekend. That’s quite an accomplishment.

:
I've been busy deleting chapters in my book, that I have put off for a long time. I knew I had to do it, but it's like letting go of old friends. Sometimes I wish I had never started the book, but since I've started, I can't stop.
Hi Jada,
You’ve probably told us before, but I missed it. What is your book about? I’m writing a genealogy of my maternal grandmother.

Good Morning all,
And, I also didn't know how much "over" it took to gain a pound. That's great to know. Can you tell me where to go to find out about facts like that?
Susann
Hi Susann, I will post some websites.

Today is cold and rainy. I need to grade papers. Probably stop by here several times to take a break from the papers.
I received the muffin top pans I ordered. They are Cuisinart – non-stick pans. Off to the grocery store later today to get the ingredients for the zucchini muffins.
Check back later,
Lynn

Morning Ladies,

I walked yesterday, even a bit extra since it was so nice out.

I think my problem is I am not very motivated. I am doing the bare minimum as far as exercise and my diet is still very bad. It's like I am almost afraid to really dive into this again. Or I am lazy or whatever.... How do you get motivated? I had used an upcoming wedding but that has not worked. Its April 25. I had wanted to be thinner and buy a new dress, etc. How do you find what motivates you?

Thanks for your support!

Afraid I'm not feeling too well today . . . think it might be the new med the doctor put me on yesterday. Very strong antibiotic. If it clears up the chest problems I can put up with the upset stomach, I guess.

Hi all,

I am hoping for some guidance about how to help my parents. My mom was recently diagnosed ~ early stages of alzheimers. How do you go about trying to help with things like helping to make sure that their bills get paid. Mom has always handled the finances, but some of the bills are not getting paid ~ the phone has been shut off a few times, the cable turned off. I think there has been a problem with property taxes not being paid. Mom says that she is keeping up with it just fine and doesn't need help. She won't let dad help her with it. Dad doesn't know what to do. My sister, brother and I are not sure what to do.

Thank you for any ideas/information you might be able to share.

Gayle, I'm so sorry that your mother is going through that, along with the rest of your family. It's hard on everyone, and especially hard on your mother, because she probably doesn't realize that this is happening to her. Has her doctor put her on Aricept? It is supposed to slow down the progression. It really helped my mother. My first instinct would be to not argue with your mother about it. She will get defensive then and it will makes things worse. If your dad contacts these companies, and explains the situation, can he have the mailing address changed to be sent to you or someone else? Would she miss the bill if it didn't come? Then you or someone can take care of making sure that it is being paid?

That's just an idea Gayle, I'm sure that some of the ladies here can give you more ideas too. If I think of anything else, I'll pass it on.

My mother has dementia, it's not easy, but you can get through it. Hang in there.

A quick good morning all!
I have a ton of things to do today, I just listed two pairs of ladies bib overhauls on ebay. (That takes a long time) Now I need to get outside and clean out the chicken coop. Just a couple of comments about Alzheimers and your needed advice Glynne. Isn't your dad capable of over looking the finances? Maybe he can lay out the bills or write them on a calendar and make sure they get Xed off when paid. Since she has forgotten some in the past, she shouldn't object to this if you tell her in a diplomatic way.
Susann...Tell your SIL I listed the Wii Console+sports games on Ebay. I paid over $400.00 for it, used it just a few times and selling it for $169.00. The auction is only for 1 more day and a few hours.
Gotta run!

Good morning,
Susann, Seems like it's hard to eat healthy when your tired. I hope the dog issue gets resolved soon.
Lynn, Have fun with your new muffin pans. I love new pans!! Good luck on writing your genealogy book. My book is a mainstream novel about three childhood friends traveling to Germany together and the conflicts they have with one another. I finished the novel, but it needs some editing. I started another book that's a murder mystery that takes place in Nevada. I really enjoy Father Dowling mystery novels, so I thought I'd try it. I don't think I'll try to get them published for another three years.
Cindy, I think motivation comes from life experiences. I wasn't having any medical problems to motivate me, and my doctor told me I didn't need to lose weight, unless I just wanted to, because I was in good health. I was strongly motivated to lose when I had the life experience of not being able to get into a man's truck, and he had to help me. I was totally humiliated. I stopped eating and looked up the food pyramid to find out the minimum I had to eat, and I joined 3FC. I write on 3FC everyday. If I'm not motivated to write on 3FC, then I know I'm taking the first step in heading back to my old unhealthy eating habits.
Meowee, I hope your feeling better soon. Medication upset my stomach too. I don't know what's worse, the illness or the medication.
Gayle, I agree with Susann about having the bills sent to you, or you could contact the utilities and ask them if they would contact you before they turn off the utility. I would also join a local Alzheimers support group for families, where you could vent, if nothing else.

It's nice to have the Easter holiday gone, and getting back into a routine. I watched the Biggest Loser last night. I look forward to seeing how they do each week. I wouldn't want to be those who had to decide who had to leave and then you have to tell them to their face, and then the poor person getting kicked out has to face all of them and listen to them tell you that your getting kicked off. But I guess it's worth it because Laura received $100,000. to take with her.

Hi Gayle,
I am SO sorry to hear that you and your family are going through this. BTW – there is a 3-part special (on HBO) about alzheimer’s. Below is the link – NOTE: it is also link to the alzheimer’s association. http://www.alz.org/news_and_events_16202.asp?gclid=CLa9yaq49ZkCFZpM5Q odwlk2Qg

Hi Jada,
I watch BL every week, but I’d NEVER want to be on that show. First of all, I’d punch those trainers in the nose if they ever screamed at me the way they scream at those contestants. Also, I’m not convinced that such radical exercise routines are helpful in the long run. Many of the folks who lose so much weight in such a short time while on that show gain it all back when they get home.

Staying at home and taking it easy today. Making my muffins and some other lo-carb/cal/fat recipes. If anything turns out really good, I’ll post in our recipe thread.

O.K. You gals have inspired me to dig out my muffin top pan which I purchased last year and never used. I have a question about frozen zucchini, last summer I shredded and froze a bunch in two cup packets. When I thaw these out, they get all juicy, do I use that juice as part of the recipe or drain it off?

One more question and I gotta go, I purchased the frozen mango and want to puke. Did I get a bad package or does frozen mango's taste like FISH? Let me know if I should take the opened package back to the grocery store for a refund.
I sometimes wish I lived in town, I run back and forth soooooooooo many times a week. I have a hair appointment today plus have to stop at the food co-op for something called, "Sleep Rescue". Sometimes I wake at night for a potty run and then can't get back to sleep. The sleep rescue is a tiny spray bottle that instantly puts you back to sleep (calms your mind so you stop thinking about stuff) and last night I was awake from 2:16 until after 4a.m. and out of the spray, Bummer!
My crocus were in full bloom yesterday, both purple and yellow. I just let the chickens out awhile ago and the air smells so wonderful out there, I couldn't help thanking God for that wonderful clean air smell and wishing I could bottle it.
Have a great day everyone.

Jada, ty for your comments about motivation. I hear ya!

Bobbi, I thawed out my frozen mango I had in the freezer. I was not impressed! I am glad I did not mix it with my fresh pineapple, it would have ruined it. Mine did not taste like fish but it certainly did not taste good to me either!

I put in a extra effort yesterday with my walking and did get on the scale this am. It moved a bit! Very encouragining indeed!

Morning all.....OMG Bobbie! Mango does not taste or smell like fish! Pack it up and take back asap.

Having a totally blah morning. Have to do the baking/cooking for the game tomorrow and I can't even get my shower done. Might have something to do with total eating meltdown last night. Ate everything that wasn't in the deep freezer or walking around. Then couldn't sleep because my stomach was rolling......sighhhhh....I will grow up some day.

Gayle...Alzhiemers is so cruel. It affects everyone in the family. Your dad will need your support as he assumes more and more taking care of her. I think the saddest thing is that they have times when they know they are losing their mind. Those moments of lucidness used to break my heart. There is nothing that prepares you for the reality of watching Alzhiemers delete the esence of a loved one. Be sure to check out the website Lynn posted. For you post here often and let us give you cyber hugs.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, finding self trying to keep sitting here posting instead of working.........be back when at least the cake for 97 yr is done. Karen3

Hi there . . .

Having a very, very busy day. Spent the morning at the hospital with a friend and then I hve to go back this evening for my own chest x-ray.

At least the sun is shining, but it is just barely above freezing.

You know, most frozen fruit pales in comparison to the fresh stuff. I love mango, it tastes a little like a cross between peach and pineapple to me. Try a fresh one before you give up on it entirely.

I have had frozen mangoi and while definitely not worth going out of your way to get, I've never thought it tasted fishy. I agree, take it back.

Anyway, gang, stuff to do and places to go . . . see you later. :grouphug:

Good morning,
Bobbie, Too bad you didn't like the mangoes, or you just got a bad batch. It's hard to describe how they taste. Meowee described it best. I never heard of sleep rescue. Sounds like great stuff. Your flowers sound beautiful. I miss the days of living out in the country and getting my own chicken and duck eggs. My oatmeal cookies tasted so great with duck eggs. I prefer the city, but I still miss it sometimes.
Cindy, I've heard mango is an acquired taste. Luckily, I liked it from the first bite. I would be lost without it. I keep my mango frozen, and eat one piece at a time, like I would frozen grapes, when I have hunger pains between meals. I did defrost 12 pieces this morning and put it in my cereal. It was great. I didn't have to add any sugar.
Karen3, Gotta hate those food cravings. I feel for you. I hear it happens to everybody, but it's no fun, especially when your tummy feels too full. Not fun.
Meowee, I'll have to try fresh mango, especially for cereal.

I look forward to hearing how everybodys muffins turned out.

Hello everybody! We just got back from MO. last night and we loved the house we went to see! :carrot: We went ahead and made the arrangements to buy it and the closing will be on may 15th!! YAY!! Now I just hope and pray that this house in Colorado sells quickly!

Now we have gone to store this morning to stock up on some groceries since the weather forecast is calling for a major storm with 2 or more feet of snow predicted!! I sure hope they are wrong! We have way too much to do to have to wait for 2 feet of snow to melt!!

Anyway, I just wanted to share the news with you and I'll probably be pretty busy the next few weeks but will try to pop in ever once in awhile and let you know how things are going. :D

Hey Karen, congrats on finding your new home, can't wait to hear about it.

I'm doing pretty good on my low protein diet, lost a couple more lbs. but feel better on it especially now that my cold is over.

Gayle, as with any illness, gather all the info you can and maybe join an on-line group for extra support and people who will understand the situation. I know that has really helped me with my kidney disease.

Hi to everyone, the sun is finally out here in Ohio and it was a beautiful day, I do believe that Spring is here.

Now for me . . . think I'll be a little scarce around here for the rest of this month. My cousin, Jamie (we've been as close as brother and sister all our lives) finally lost a long battle with cancer yesterday.

Now, as I mentioned before, Ruthxxx is arriving today to spend the weekend with me. Guess I'll try to get on the same flight as she is on for the trip to Ontario on Monday morning. This should time out okay because his oldest son told me last night that there will be an autopsy to verify cause of death (something to do with the fact that he was a fireman). He will then be cremated and then there will be a memporial service. Liam didn't think anything much would be happening before next week anyway.

So, if you need assistance and can't find me, just scream for another Mod and someone will show up -- probably Ruthxxx.

I'm going to go and close our my April Accountability now since that will not be the uppermost thing on my agenda for a little while.

See you later . . . :grouphug:

Morning everyone....Well never went into the kitchen after dinner last night! Slept like a baby. Still feel stuffed from binge. Yuck. Everything is not only made but packed up in the trunk. Need a shower and off for last directing day. Have 96 sandwiches, hugh 2 layer birthday cake, artichoke dip, crackers and cookies/candies. Oh and brownies...tried them with the cheese cake topping and it was okay, not enought to go to the extra work. Not me Dh tasted for me....bless his heart.

Come the first of May I suspect that the club members will be a little shocked with the changes. Am in trouble anyway, I called a member a Troll. Immediately apologized again and again and again...but she is like a dog with a bone and keeps bring it up. Funny thing is no one paid any attention, but she is going to make it her name by this constant harping. She is an evil little SnotGriddle.....which is an evil troll.

Karen saw on the weather map that hugh storm...gesh, stay warm! It's so warm here that the gators are mating. Not pretty and their grunting sounds to call for a mate is spooky weird sounds.

Lynn....My Saturday nights are Brit nights with all the old comedy shows. Rereruns still make me laugh.

Linda....So sorry for your loss. Make sure Ruthxxx gives you hugs for us.

Susan....15! 15! 15! Thats wonderful......:carrot::carrot::carrot:

Good Morning Girls!
Have a safe trip Linda (Meowee for anyone who doesn't know) and my condolence.
Jada...I took the mango back to the store for a refund, I think it must be an aquired taste.
Cindy... When I'm out of 'Sleep Rescue' I have tried hot milk or a yogurt, that sometimes works.
Susann...Speaking of 'Sleep Rescue', I purchased mine at our local food co-op but you can google it and order it online. Did your popcorn seasonings yet? Which one did you buy and let me know what your favorite is.:corn:
Where is Isabella? I sent her a personal message yesterday and still haven't heard from her.
Karen3...I called a member a Troll. What did she do to you that you would call her a troll? Were you actually playing against her or just over-seeing the game?
Lynn...I've used that cherry pie filling w/splenda before, it's yummy. I mixed cooked rhubarb in it for a delicious sauce and also mixed some cherry filling into chocolate pudding, They also have it in apple with splenda but I haven't tried it yet. We have 4 apple trees and have plenty of apples.
Hi Phyllis, Karen31, Freda and anyone else I missed.
I sold my Wii Console/sports games yesterday on ebay and my Wii personal trainer sold about 1/2 hour ago. Someone bid on my bibs too, gosh! I can't wait to spend that money. I have to stay away from the high heel shoe department, I love shoes.

:grouphug:Good morning everybody,

Bobbi, Enjoy spending your money. Love that extra money.

Lynn, I wouldn't want to be on Biggest Loser either. They turned weight loss into a sport. I read the posted recipes and they sound soooo good-all of them.
Karen31, I'm happy for you that you love your house. Too bad about the snow when your trying to move. Your house looks beautiful.
Phyllis, It's a pleasure meeting you. It sounds like your taking good care of yourself with kidney disease. My brother had kidney failure when he was 9. He's still going strong.
Susann, Congratulations on hitting 15 lb mark. :bravo: You're doing good. Have fun shopping. I'm about ready for new clothes too.

Meowee, I'm sorry for the loss of your cousin. My best to and your family.

Karen3, With all that food, I wish I was in your Bridge Club. They are going to miss all the changes, for sure. I can't imagine anyone putting in so much effort as you have done. I've never seen it. I'm sorry, but that was funny you called somebody a Troll. Some people just keep pushing us, and don't know when to back off or don't want to back off, until we blow up. Some people just bring out the worst in us, with their annoying personalities, and they do it at the worst times. I would stop apologizing to her. She's gas lighting you.
Cindy, You're doing great with your walking. I haven't tried it, but the 100 calorie packets I see around sound good. I have tried the new (or new to me) Mrs. Smiths single serve, 100 calorie, cheesecake. I liked it and plan to buy more. I didn't care for the apple crisp, it's still sitting in my freezer. It has to be bad when I don't eat a dessert.

Are you an emotional eater?

Get a Handle on Emotional Eating

The Secret Sabotage of Your Program
Ever been angry or upset one minute and then on your couch eating the next, unable to remember why you started eating or how long you had spent munching? If so, then you have entered the world of emotional eating. It’s something than can happen to anyone, and one of the most common dieting obstacles out there.

Emotional eating at its best passes after a few minutes. At its worst, it can take over your life and cause you to eat uncontrollably for extended periods of time. And according to nutritional experts, 75% of overeating is caused by emotions. So don’t worry, if you suffer from emotional eating, you are not alone.

People often eat to relieve stress or to get something off their minds. The kicker is that stress, and the insulin jump that goes with it, may actually cause you to crave high sugar, high carbohydrate foods – foods that go straight to your waistline and cause you even more stress.

Rather than munching, it's better to develop new skills for dealing with boredom, self-esteem issues and stress. Try to pinpoint the major reasons for your stress or unpleasant emotions, and see how you can turn the tide. Here are a few suggestions to combat your emotions:

Get your trigger foods out of the house, get your crutch foods out of arms' reach
Go for a walk or jog. Physical activity relieves stress.
Do deep breathing and relaxation exercises
Keep a reminder of your goal handy
Talk to a friend
Visit and post on the support message boards
Surround yourself with positive reinforcers, like pictures and people
Keep a journal that includes your best personal accomplishments
Track your eating patterns, including when and why you pick up food.If you still seem to come back to food when your emotions get the best of you, you can at least be prepared. Eating large amounts of snacks is not a good thing. But if you eat low calorie foods, it’s not so bad. So stock the fridge with healthy alternatives--foods that have good nutritious value and are smaller in size. Here are a few food suggestions to keep within arms' reach:

Good Morning Girls!
:welcome: Eia Wa, can I buy a couple of inches off your height? I'd give my pinkie finger to be your height.
I have spring fever this morning because we worked outside all day yesterday pruning and cutting back winters dry plumage. I wanted to bring the deck furniture out but DH says to wait until he puts a sealer on first. DH, bless his heart is the worlds biggest procrastinator, around July he'll get it done unless I ride his back side. I have to run again into town this morning, got a note from the hair dresser at MIL place and she wants some advice of how to get MIL into the beauty shop to have her hair done. It seems my MIL who always prided herself in how she looked is refusing to have her hair done. It did look like heck last time I saw her.
We have a burning band in our neck of the woods, it's been so dry and nobody can burn anything. They ok'ed grilling out but no camp fires. We have a ton of fallen branches from winter that needs burning, it'll have to wait.
You all have a great week-end!

Lynn....My Saturday nights are Brit nights with all the old comedy shows. Rereruns still make me laugh.
Hi Karen,
State of Play was GREAT! They did an EXCELLENT job of turning a multi-hour British TV series into a 90 min movie. Kept everything important.

I had a bowl of cereal for a nighttime snack - GrapeNut Flakes. What would be a good snack? At least it was not ice cream!
Hi Cindy, one of my favorite nighttime snacks is yogurt + peanutbutter. You can control the calories/carbs by the type of yogurt and peanutbutter you select. I try to get the low-carb/low-calorie type & use Simply Jiff peanutbutter.
Good Morning Girls!
Hi Bobbi,
The pork chop recipe turned out REALLY good. Now I have a bunch of the cherry pie filling left. Maybe I’ll pick up some low-carb vanilla pudding & mix together. Thanks for the idea.
Good Morning!! Well, it is SPRINGTIME in the Rockies!! We have about a foot of snow on the ground and it is supposed to continue snowing through tomorow!! :brr::snow4:
Hi Karen, Will be good when you get out of there. Is weather better where you will be living?
:grouphug:Good morning everybody,
Lynn, I wouldn't want to be on Biggest Loser either. They turned weight loss into a sport. I read the posted recipes and they sound soooo good-all of them.
Hi Jada, I never looked at the BL recipes. Must you join to get to them?

Hi there. I just joined and you are the first person from Newfoundland and Labrador I've 'met'.
Hi Eia – WELCOME!

Today is my DD’s and SIL’s “bring home the rescued cat day.” Her cat (that she LOVED VERY much) died last Fall. She recently decided to adopt a rescued adult cat from a local “save the cats” group. Today she selects her new family member.

I read Bobbi’s article about stress eating. I do most of these & am OK as long as I’m in my own home.

• Get your trigger foods out of the house, get your crutch foods out of arms' reach
• Go for a walk or jog. Physical activity relieves stress.
• Do deep breathing and relaxation exercises
• Keep a reminder of your goal handy
• Talk to a friend
• Visit and post on the support message boards
• Surround yourself with positive reinforcers, like pictures and people
• Keep a journal that includes your best personal accomplishments
• Track your eating patterns, including when and why you pick up food.

My problem is more about “peer eating.” The problem for me is choosing to be influenced by what my family/friends are eating when I’m out or visiting or on vacation. I am embarrassed to be like this. At sixty-four, you would think I could stick to my own plans. The worst part of this is that I can wipe out 5-6 weeks of losses in 1 weekend/vacation/visit!

Good morning everybody and welcome to Eia Wa :grouphug:

Bobbi, Great article on emotional eating. I think my problem stems from enjoying to make large portions, like lasagna, spaghetti, and taco meat, potato salad (which I have stopped doing). I keep picking at them throughout the day. I liked to keep extras for my sons when they visit. Now, I just keep Rootbeer in my fridge for them, because I don't drink it, and I order in when they visit and have them take the leftovers. My goal is to stop the food thing all together.
Your working outside sounds wonderful.
Karen3, I'm so glad your food went over well. I look forward to hearing the details.
Lynn, When I mentioned the recipes, I was referring to the recipes on 3FC. The pork chops with cherry filling sound good and unique. It's fascinating to learn eastern cooking, compared to southwestern.
I'm glad you enjoyed your Play.
Meowee, I missed seeing your post this morning, and I hope everything is going well.

Hugs, Jada

Good afternoon....I'll been doodling around and haven't accomplished a thing and I don't feel guilty. Yesterday was hard. The new room is laid out wrong for card tables. It is used on weekends for bingo with a stage. They put the computer etc up on the stage so it it was up and down the steps all day. Then the aisles are too narrow and when you asked some one to let you thru they raised and lowered their chair, but didn't move in. Have decided I am not too fat just too short.....If I was taller my belly could slide over the top of the chairs! Before I did up to 6 miles of walking per game, bet I did 8 yesterday because I could never get there from here. So my legs are tired and have bruises on my tummy. Told DH glad I had already told them I was done. Can't believe at my age I came home looking like I had been playing war games.

The 97yr old was thrilled. Do you ever say thing that comes out tongue tied and ends up even better than if you planned it. I meant to ask her to stand and instead asked everyone in the room to stand and sing Happy Birthday! It got everyone invloved in singing and she was blushing. She thanked me over and over for the cake...apparently homebaked really got to her. And looking like a 40lb cake! (did I admit to decorating it with rabbit peeps and jelly beans...which looked like rabbit poop?)

Won't stop doing a lot of cooking....DH had asked 2 couples to dinner next week. Gonna show off with my Smith island recipe for Md crab cakes. Do corn pudding and old fashion corn bread....my kids always called it wet corn bread, but actually is a spoon bread. English peas and new red potatoes. I would bake sweet potato biscuits, but the last time I made them they were hard stones. I'll eat a big salad for lunch and just stir some food on my plate.

The winds has been blowing all week and kept the pool temp down so no swimming. Just looking now and have white caps in the pool....sighhhhh

Off to the library.....hugs...Karen3

Hello all,

Rainy weekend here ~ thunder and lightening.

I have been having fun playing around on that Facebook thing. My brother and a couple coworkers got me hooked up there. I connected with one of my girlfriends from grade school. We hadn't talked for probably over 20 years. Her brother helped us connect and she called this morning and we had a nice long visit ~ catching up and sharing old memories etc.

Off the weekend ~ doing laundry and stuff.

Sorry to hear about your cousin Linda.

Hope you all are having a nice weekend.

Take care

Beside the little quote button that you've already conguered to put things into your reply, there is another little button that looks like quotation marks on a piece of paper. This is the multi quote button. Click on it for each of the posts you'd like to quote EXCEPT the last one. On the last one, click the normal little quote button.

Thanks Meowee for your help, I'm going to try it now. I'm so sorry about your cousin, have a safe trip and we'll all be thinking about you.

Hi Jada, Aha! I thought you meant the BL website. Yes, I’ve made bunches of the recipes on that thread. Just one warning – those of us on this board are on all different types of diets. You need to sort through to find recipes that fit with what you are doing.

Won't stop doing a lot of cooking.... I'll eat a big salad for lunch and just stir some food on my plate. ...hugs...Karen3
Karen, what are some of the other ways you manage to keep from eating what you are cooking? I just gave up & ONLY cook low-carb/low-cal foods. I used to be the “cookie lady” for my family. I haven’t made cookies since I started my low-carb/low-cal way of eating.

Hello all,
I have been having fun playing around on that Facebook thing. Take care
Hi Gayle,
I want to learn how to use Facebook to do genealogy. I signed up, but cannot figure out how people use it in this way.

Hi Susann, The other trick relates to how you insert your text. Each person’s message will be inside 2 [ ]’s with the word “QUOTE.” You must keep your text after the last “QUOTE” box to have their text show up in a box.

My DD and SIL adopted their new adult rescued cat. Seems very sweet.

I’m making a low-carb dinner – chicken cordon bleu. If it turns out good, I will post recipe. Jada, my recipes are more about my dietary needs bc of type 2 diabetes than about my area of the country. I subscribe to a Weekly Menu service that sends me 7 recipes of low-carb meals each Tuesday. I generally find at least 2 that I make. This helps me keep my diet interesting. Otherwise, I sometimes get into a rut & then get bored.
Check back later.

Good Morning Everybody :cp:

Karen3, I enjoyed reading your post about your last day at bridge. I wasn't sure if you were giving up bridge all together, or just your position. I admire the way you entertain. Your food sounds sooo good. I'll have to try to make crab cakes one of these days.
Gayle, I'm happy for you that you talked again to an old friend. I hear a lot about Facebook, but I haven't figured it out yet. I'm sure it's very easy.
Susann, You're braver than me. At least you're trying to learn the quote button. I'm already worn out from trying to learn new eating habits.
Lynn, Chicken Cordon Bleu is my absolutely favorite. Your weekly menu service sounds great. I used to have recipes sent to me by email, but it stopped. I guess I'll have to look for another one on the Internet. I like the Southern Cooking recipes, so I'll start with that, but not until I'm under 200 lbs. I can freeze the extra portions. I'm not so likely to snack when the food is kept in the freezer.

I was thinking last night that I could start keeping steaks in the freezer to quickly cook up for family visits, rather than give up on the cooking all together. I used to love it when I would visit my mom and dad and they would barbecue pork chops, yams and corn on the cob for me. I also thought that mozzarella string cheese is a good snack.
When I woke up this morning, I felt bloated and sure I gained weight, but when I got on the scale, my weight had gone down. What a pleasure that was. I hope everybody has a great Monday. I'm going to check out Facebook again.

Good Morning all,

Hope you all had a great weekend, mine was just kind of blah, I did ok on my eating, but didn't exercise at all, maybe that was one of the reasons that it was blah. I did some cleaning on the house though, and straightened things up. I don't know if I told you or not, but we now have our house on the market. So, I want to keep it in good showing condition.

Karen31, how neat that you have the mama and babies. Isn't nature just amazing??? We have lots of deer and possum, raccoons, and fox, and see lots of babies, but haven't seen any baby fox, I can just imagine out cute they are.

Well, it looks like the "quote" thingie is not sinking in just yet. I have so much other stuff on my mind, maybe one of these days I'll try it again....but not right now.....lol. Jada, maybe we can learn together, one of these days...haha.

Ok, time to get up and get my exercising started. Today is cardio and weight training. Going to whup me since I haven't done anything for 2 days....lol.

Have a great Monday everyone!

Hi Jada,

I'll post the recipe in the sticky area & I'll PM you the link for the menu service I use. You can select low-carb; or low-fat; & several others. You can also select for 2 people or for 4 people. I like the recipes - they are easy and don't involve unusual ingredients.

Hi Karen,
My DD & SIL had a fox in their backyard last summer. What a STRANGE cry! Be careful of your babies. I was surprised at the size of the fox - pretty big.

Hi Susann,

I get energized with exercise. Yes, it's REALLY tough getting back. When I'm in my zone, I can do 20-30 min on the eliptical (in addition to my bike and treadmill). After a break, I must begin back at 10 minutes.

Yesterday I saw a friend whom I had not seen for a couple of months. She has been quite ill & looked TERRIBLE! During my career in education, she was my mentor. I'm supposed to spend some time with her today. I'm hoping she is on the road back to health.

Tomorrow I enter the last week of my online course. This has been one of the worst classes I have had in terms of the level of skills of the students. 9 of 15 dropped out. Of the 6 who are left, 3 are failing. I can't help but think that the University is admitting students who are NOT ready for graduate school.

Have a great day everyone,

Lynn

Susann, Good luck selling your home. I always dislike the having to keep your house in top shape everyday, all day. It's like your going through a military inspection. My friends would tell me to lighten up.
Lynn, Thanks for the information. I signed up. The recipes sound good.
Way2Fluffy, Congratulations on losing 20 lb.:bravo:

My DIL is having problems with her pregnancy, so I'm on edge trying to keep their spirits up. My poor son looks so devastated. They are seeing a doctor today to find out what to do next.

Mary...I know you don't post on this site, only on the 'Accountability' but I see you've lost 2.5 pounds this month, congrats to you too.
We have to take our 17 year old grandson to a neighboring town for a last minute check-up before he has his jaw broken. His surgery is coming up at the end of the month and he's scared. He has braces on his teeth and the surgeon has to reset his receding jaw line so his teeth will line up properly. Tiffany has to work so we'll take him. I'm not sure what to do about lunch, we'll have to take him to a fast food place so he can eat on the way home. What can I eat? We never eat at fast food places so I don't have a clue what's on the menu anymore.
We had three days of rain and everything is greening up, the band on outside fire burning is lifted thank goodness. We have a ton of branch to burn. I'm off to get ready for errands in town before we pick up Damian, catch ya all later. Have a great day.

Hello all,

Hanging in there. Not doing the best diet/exercise wise. Struggling with the sleep problem (sleep apnea) so I often feel too tired to care to do the right things for my health.

Off to work tonight for the next three nights. I live for those days off. I can't wait until I can get to retire. Until then, I wish I could find some other job to do that even if I didn't love it ~ I wouldn't mind going to.

Just popping in to say hello. I visit here every day, but don't often have anything to tell. The above is why I don't write often. I don't want to be a downer to you all.

Hope you all are doing well.

Take care

Good morning,

I think I will weigh myself once a week, Wednesday. I weighed today. The pound I lost came back. I am not surprised but disappointed. I am having a tough time getting started. I think my cardio (walking) needs to be increased. I just don't know how to work in the time it takes. It's discouraging. I worked with my exercise ball a bit yesterday too. Sigh. Good Morning,

I started a Book Discussion group - first meeting is today. Used an online group - Meet-up. I'll let you know how it goes.

Had a blood test this morning - she had to dig around in arm for a while & then gave up and finally got some in my hand. I had a bottle of water before the test, but I exercised. I'm think I might have gotten a little dehydrated. Was trying to get my blood sugar down so I wouldn't have a problem with the fasting. That's one of the problems with getting old and having all these health problems - one affects the other. Oh well - on to my book club.

Good morning ;)

Bobbi, Congratulations on losing close to 6 lbs :)
Lynn, Congratulations on being so close to your monthly goal :) I was excited to receive my first newsletter on menus. The chocolate covered strawberries sounded so good. The article was also interesting about chocolate.
Cindy, Stick with your plan, and the weight will eventually stop dropping. I get discouraged too, so I feel for you. Hang in there.
Gayle, Personally, I don't care if you share bad days. It takes my mind off my own problems  I was a working girl, so I can relate to looking forward to retirement and/or finding a job with less stress.
Way2Fluffy, Enjoy the great spring weather!!

I watched Biggest Loser last night. It was a great show. I liked the idea of using Zip Lock steaming bags for cooking meat without having to use oil. My grocer doesn't have any, so I'll have to look around. I'll have to look on their web site to see what he was talking about when he was showing hot dogs and protein bars. I was daydreaming when that part came on. I'm glad Ron and Mike are doing well...they're such little cuties. Kristin sure got her jabs in when she got kicked off. She did great lasting as long as she did.
I tried on a pair of old shorts that didn't fit anymore. I was able to pull it together at the waist:), but still too tight to wear.
Everybody have a great day and thanks for all the support. Love you all, Hugs, Jada

Hello chickies. Another good day for me so far although I haven't exercised yet. I just found out I can watch The Biggest Loser on one of my two channels. I didn't think they were airing it this season but they are and I only found out last week! So that's on tonight so I'll exercise on my bike while I watch.

Gayle, don't feel bad about griping on the thread. We're here for you. I couldn't wait to retire either. I was teaching grade 1 and those little kids had me just about worn out by the end of the day.

Has anyone tried the no knead bread that seems to be on every food blog for the last year? It takes all day, at least, to as much as 18 hours for it to rise and bake. I've made it a couple of times with varying degrees of success. The last time I made it I used part whole wheat flour and a little margarine. It's wonderfully crunchy on the outside but it was too chewy for my tastes. The margarine made it a little less chewy. I had the last hunk for supper with laughing cow cheese spread with a little jam. Yummy.

Jada, hope the babies will be born healthy. It's a worry isn't it until they are born.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy, I use Leslie Sansome's in home walking videos. She incorporates strength training, kick boxing, walking, ab works, so much into her videos that in 30 minutes time you can have a great workout. If you switch it up and do different things on different days, then you work alot of different muscles.

You can go to www.half.com and get some really good buys on used dvd's and vhs videos.

Good luck, hope this helped a little bit.

But we're always here for you. As far as eating in a rush, that happens. Bruce and I spent weeks and weeks going through his mothers house boxing up 60+ years of "stuff", we ate on the run or we didn't take the time to eat at all.
The article below is from the Sparks people and it's something I sort of do every morning for my bad back. My doc told me to do similar exercises and they do help, I just have to remember to lift heavy things correctly. Bending over is my biggest problem, like if I drop something on the floor, geeeeeeeeessssh, I can hardly get back up.
You all have a great day.

Bye, Bye Back Pain
This sample series provides flexion, rotation and extension of the spine.

Still in the Sack

One Knee Hug (lying on back – hug one knee into chest – feel stretch in lower back – other leg can be bent at knee or extended.) Breathe. Switch legs.
Both Knees Hug (same as above – hug both knees into chest – feel stretch in lower back – breathe into the stretch – feeling your spine lengthening with each breath.)While You Are Watching the Morning Show

Hip Rolls (from above, drop feet on floor – knees bent – arms out to the side in a T position – shoulder level – palms up – allow your legs – knees together to roll to the ride side – and attempt to kept your left shoulder on the floor – breathe into the torso stretch – pull your abdominals in and bring your knees back to center and roll them to the other side.)
Pelvic Lift (lying on back – knees bent – feet shoulder width apart – arms by your side – lift your hips up into the air – keep weight centered in your whole foot – and slowly roll yourself down –starting from your mid back, lower back and then rear end. Articulate the spine as though it were a ‘string of pearls’ – make sure your knees stay still during the movement – they have a tendency to roll open during the lowering.) Breathe
Elbow Prop-Up (roll over onto your belly – prop yourself up on your elbows – legs extended together behind you – visualize lifting your chest – pull in your abs and feel your spine naturally extend – drop your shoulders and breathe.)

Morning,

I am a bit sore today. My leg muscles hurt. That's good, right? Most of my fat is around my belly. I tried my exercise ball yesterday doing sit-ups. Not too bad. I think I only need to do a million though.

I went shopping last week for clothes. So where do they keep the clothes for us 50+ ladies anyway? Frustrating experience for sure.

Congrats to those who have lost weight! Keep up the good work!

Hello all. I had a good week so far with eating and exercise so I hope things start a downward trend. :D

Lynn, that cat looks as if he's not sure he's staying yet. Ha, ha. Cat's are such individuals. My sister has about 8 cats and all of them different.

Susan I'm so sorry you're going through such problems right now. Post here anytime for support. So glad you've got yourself a house to live in.

Cindy, you need to look in different stores. Don't just look in "old lady" stores, ha, ha. Some of the clothes for younger gals look just as good on us as long as there's not too much flesh exposed. I've always said that a time comes in every woman's life when they look better clothed than unclothed. I'm definitely at that stage. I personally like a 3/4 sleeve. I think it is most flattering for "bat wings" under the arms. Good luck with that belly fat.

We've had a minor catastrophe at our house today. Mom's lift chair died. It's the motor. DH and his brother will take it apart tonight to see if it can be fixed. The chair is just barely over 2 years old and of course the warranty is off by now. Mom was very unceremoniously removed from the upright chair by DH and me and deposited in the Lazy Boy chair in the living room. She uses the chair for her bed also as she won't lie down flat so I hope we can get it fixed soon. A new motor is about $200 but well worth it for the convenience of getting her up and down. But a new motor will probably take a couple of weeks to get shipped unless we're lucky enough to find one locally.

Have a good On Plan day everyone.

Hello everybody and Welcome Sunny Gee:grouphug:

Bobbi, What did you decide on fast food? I haven't had any fast food for the past year. I was thinking today of getting a Whopper Jr. while I'm out running around, but I set out an apple to take with me in case I change my mind.
Isabella, I hope your DH gets your mother's lift chair working real quick:flow1:
Cindy, Your exercise ball sounds fun.
Lynn, Your DD new cat is adorable!!!!
Susann, I hope your divorce goes smoothly. I wish you the best.

I'm staying OP and enjoying the hot weather. Getting up into the 90's already.

Hi Cindy, I know what you mean. All that glitter and fringe and embroidery. Hard to find normal clothes.

Hi Isabella, tee hee, She does have an attitude, doesn’t she?
Hi everyone! New kid on the block! :)
Hi Sunny, welcome!

Hi Jada, we’re supposed to get very hot here by the weekend. I’m looking forward to it. Of course, after a couple of days, I’ll want it to be cool again.

Today I had one of those “hungry days.” Didn’t get to the gym this morning – thinking the change in schedule did it. However, actually did a wise thing. Bought some whole wheat/low fat cheese ravioli and some low-sugar marinara sauce. Also some whole wheat Italian bread – used it to make garlic bread with Smart Balance & garlic salt. Filled up without bingeing on high-carb foods.

Things have happened very fast here, looks like a divorce is in the works. So, I'm in the process of cleaning at the new house, and packing here. I hope I can keep up with my healthy eating, it's going to be very easy to grab something in a rush. But, at least I'll get a lot of exercise...lol.

Hi to everyone, have a great day!!

Susann

Hi Susann, should I offer condolences or congratulations? Whichever, they are yours. When I divorced my first husband, I gained 40 pounds. (I also took up drinking and smoking.) I was 33.

Take care of yourself & lean on us as much and as often as you'd like.

Good morning ladies, thank you for your kind words of support.

Lynn, I think condolences or congratulations would depend on which one of us you ask.......for me, it's congratulations. It seems that I am a pretty high maintenance person. I ask for someone who is willing to work and help pay the bills, someone to show me that they care about me, someone to give me lots of attention, actually, someone to put me high on his priority list. It seems that I 'm asking for too much....lololol

I'm definitely NOT going to take up drinking or smoking. My Crohn's couldn't handle either one, and neither could I...lol

Welcome to the group Sunny Gee, see? this is an emotional group for whatever the problem. Good luck with your weight loss.

Lynn, the cat's fur looks like silk. She is so pretty.

Cindy, I agree with Isabella on the clothes. I go to a store called CATO's here, and they have lots of clothes geared toward the younger ladies.......but alot of those clothes look good on us too. The 3/4 length is good for covering batwings, but I get way to hot in the summer.....I wear the sleeveless, and hope that whoever is snickering behind my back ends up with twice the size batwings that I have......lolololol, no, I wouldn't wish that on anyone......I just wear it and be comfortable.

I'm really looking forward to losing more weight and to start sewing for myself again. If I can find the time, when Mother is no longer with me, I guess I'll be working 3 jobs......lololol. Oh well, life is full of surprises, some good, some bad, and some just surprises.

My mind is sooooooooooo full that I can't sleep. I think I'm going to go and do my Walk away the Stress workout this morning.....that should help me some. Everyone have a great day, hi to those that I missed.

Susann - wow, 2 pounds, yahoo! Good job!

I can't say my exercise ball is fun but I am sure I look funny using it! It will take a bit to get used to it I think.

I have a wedding to attend tomorrow. I am wearing a black top 3/4 length sleeve and a skirt. I think it looks fine. And no one will be looking at me anyway! They are new clothes so I am anxious to put them on.

I would like to order online but that's a bit scary too regarding sizes. I do pop into the Goodwill from time to time and find their dresses to be ok for me. Just simple and inexpensive for me to wear around the house. One piece so very simple.

Lynn, I hate those hungry days. What's with that anyway? You think you'd feel just as full on all days or just as hungry but this up and down stuff is enough to drive you to eat!

Susann, your attitude is great. I'd be so depressed but I think you've got a good handle on your life. I guess losing weight brings on that feeling of needing to get rid of all kinds of clutter in your life. I think you'll be fine. And a big congratulations on the 2 pounds!!!

Cindy, I often buy used clothing at the Goodwill or Value Village. Our church has a free clothing store and I sometimes find great things there. I find that when I'm losing weight I don't want to spend big $$$ on clothing that might not fit in a few months. I'll bet you look wonderful in your new "wedding" outfit. Might even steal a glance away from the bride.

I was up at 6:30 this morning as mom slept through the whole night and woke up needing to pee badly. I stayed up and have done loads of stuff today. We had lunch rather early as DH had a bus run/job during lunch time I had my lunch with him. Now, I've got lots of time to clean up the house or not. :D I'm sitting in the living room surrounded by boxes of wedding stuff that I should really put away somewhere. The ironing board has been out for over a week and it's getting homesick for it's home behind the door where it usually hangs. The dining room table is full again and so is the coffee table. Actually, I could have this all cleaned up in about 1/2 hour so I guess I'll hop to it and get something done.

Have a good weekend and stay out of the cookie jar or whatever else gets you drooling.

I am a bit sore today. My leg muscles hurt. That's good, right? Most of my fat is around my belly.
Cindy...Join the club, no matter how small I get, the tummy stays! :(
I was looking at those exercise balls that are incased in a computer chair. Is it Linda (Meowee) that has one? I think it would be good for me but I lean back on my chair often because of my bad back and don't know if I'd like it. I did have an exercise ball once but sold it as it was putting too much strain on my lower back. Ouch!
I need to get going, I've been on my cp all morning listing gobs of stuff to sell on Ebay.
Have a great day, Hi to anyone I missed.

Good Morning to anyone reading this, we tend to skip posting on week-ends. We all deserve a break and family always comes first, I personally like to goof off and do nothing. I can't walk much anymore due to bad feet but for those that do, take notice.

5 ways to improve your walking by Dr. Weil
Walking is an ideal way to get daily exercise - it strengthens almost every major organ in the body, promotes bone density, and boosts the immune system. But have you considered how to best put one foot in front of the other? Your walking habits can have an impact on how much benefit you get from each outing. Keep the following in mind when walking:

Walk with your head erect. Look ahead and train your sight 10 to 20 feet ahead of you. If you need to check the ground to avoid obstacles, lower your eyes, not your head.
Keep your back straight. Stretch your spine so your shoulders are level and square, and tuck your buttocks in.
Bend your arms. Flex your elbows at close to 90-degree angles and let your arms swing at waist level.
Take shorter, measured steps, with your feet striking the ground with the heel and pushing off with the toes. Too long a stride can throw you off balance.
Avoid lowering your head, thrusting your trunk forward or letting your arms dangle listlessly at your sides.

Great article Bobbi. I'm thinking about sticking to walking and my private gym. There's a 24 hour Fitness next door to me and I was checking it out on the web, but the group classes look too strenuous from just 10 years ago. They have classes I've never heard of. What happened to stretch and sculpting classes that I liked. Darn. I guess I'll get a seven day pass and check them out before I do anything. The pilates looks like the easiest. They do have super sculpting. The sales trainer could also give me ideas.
Susann, your husband sounds like my first husband. That marriage only lasted for 8 months. I adored him, so I would have put up with it, but he added another problem to our marriage in sleeping with my sister. That was too painful and humiliating. I don't do well with humiliation.

I would like to order online but that's a bit scary too regarding sizes. I do pop into the Goodwill from time to time and find their dresses to be ok for me. Just simple and inexpensive for me to wear around the house. One piece so very simple. I do consignment shopping also. Especially while I’m losing. Once I have hit a goal, I treat myself to something new. I am not a big shopper. Probably comes from so many years of things not fitting me. Now that I’m down to my new size, I’m always surprised when I try stuff on and it fits.
Lynn, I hate those hungry days. What's with that anyway? You think you'd feel just as full on all days or just as hungry but this up and down stuff is enough to drive you to eat!
Hi Isabella, I think it’s the “anti-diet gods.” They get angry that we are not worshipping at their altars & repay us with HUNGER!

Hi Bobbi, No, not me – I watch BL and AI, but not Survivor. I was looking forward to the show with Blago – sorry the judge won’t let him do that one!

Beautiful day here today. Probably going to my DD & SIL’s for dinner on the outside grill. Still suffering the effects of the “hungry days.” Once I eat carbs (even if they are “good carbs”), my hunger comes back.

Have a good weekend,

Good Morning girlies,

Thank you all, this is truly a great place to be. And, yes, these are the first days for the rest of my life. I am anxious to get this done and behind me. I took Mother to the house with me yesterday while I was doing some cleaning, I think she is going to like it fine. I sure hope so anyway.

I finally got a good nights sleep last night. I took a tylenol pm, and it put me out. I woke up once when "the horrid beagle" came through.....(I thought it was gone, but no such luck).....but I went right back to sleep, and woke up at 4:00......I feel so much better.

I like consignment shops too, we have two in our town, one is hardly ever open and expensive, and I can never find anything at the other one. But, no worries, I have some smaller clothes hanging in my closet that are free...LOL.

Jada, I don't guess my husband has been unfaithful to me, but I feel like he would if someone came along and payed him attention.....his ego is the size of a mountain. I'm truly sorry that you had to go through that. That was a double hurt that no one should have to endure.

I hate to hear about Bea Arthur, how old was she? I've been watching that show a lot lately, it's on about the time I go to my room at night, (to get away from the other half). Who knows, maybe Mother and I will end up somewhere like that......with a couple of roommates....lol. Women only tho, no men allowed for quite some time, at least I don't think...lol. Never say never, it really backfires on me.

Lynn, what do you eat in place of carb's? I'm trying to eat lighter at night, and what I read says to eat carb's at night, and not heavy protein.

I've gotten quite a bit of stuff moved so far, and luckily I've been able to go ahead and put away as I take it to the house. Friends are coming this morning to get some big things, then I hope to do some painting for a few days, then move the rest of the things toward the end of the week and Saturday. Would like to have Sunday to just piddle and put away and unwind.

There is a church directly across the road from the house, I know a lot of people who go there. I think we might try going again, I'll see how Mother does. I wish I could just put her in her wheel chair and wheel her across the road and into the church....but you have to go uphill out of my drive, and it's gravel. But, I can drive across, no big deal.

Ok, I'm really rattling on today.....everyone have a great Sunday!

Hi all. Yesterday was just beautiful. DH called me out to the back deck and we sat for awhile in the sun just wearing a t-shirt (and pants, of course). Today is just as nice. DH is applying weather preserver on the deck today so we won't be out there this afternoon. Our spring weather is so unpredictable so we can't say the warm weather is here to stay as it could be snowing before the week is over.

Yesterday was my free day for eating and eat I did but not too badly. It was the dessert that was really good. I had a few bowls after dinner. It was a chocolate, butterscotch and peanut butter trifle. It tasted like a Crispy Crunch bar. Yummy! And last night DS bought mom some chips and cheese puffs. I had a couple of handfuls but nothing too disastrous. I don't usually count calories on Saturday as they tend to be complicated and it scares me to see if I eat too many.

This morning started off good with a bowl of oatmeal, skim milk and a little brown sugar. And later on I'm making black bean and rice burritos for lunch. Those are really easy to regulate with the size of servings of fillings. There's no sour cream in the house but I have plenty of salsa to spice things up as much as I like. (It's mild because I don't like spicy foods.)

Did I tell you all that I'm on a cupboard/frig/freezer cleanse? I'm not buying groceries until the end of the month as I'm trying to eat up as much as I can without buying groceries. This is my second week and I still have food to eat or prepare and will still have lots of staples left when the month is over. My only problem has been making sure we have a few vegetables and fruit every day. I can finally see shelf space in the frig but the freezer is still overly full. Baking and freezing my own bread will fill it up today but we'll eat that during the week. The cupboard is looking more manageable but I had a bag of pasta fall out this morning when I opened a top cupboard so that says that one is overly full still.

Susann, glad to see that things are falling into place for you. I'm sure your mom will enjoy going to church. My mom loves to go but I only get her there about once a month, usually when we have a potluck as it gives her more time to socialize with the church members. Mom's birthday is in May and my sister and her daughter will be here for that weekend so there'll be lots of socializing then. We'll have an open house for friends and DH's family so she'll be happy to see everyone then. That's in three week's time so another big cake to make.

Now, I've rattled on and on. Have a good day everyone.

Susann

Hi Susann,

I eat a protein bar for breakfast (I like NUGO Vanilla - they have 26 g of carbs, but I work it off easily with my morning gym activity).

Snack - a low-fat cheese stick.

I try to eat my main meal at lunch - usually chicken or fish with salad and vegetables.

Snack - half an apple w peantubutter & raisins or a clementine

Dinner is something like cottage cheese w fruit or yogurt. I have a Vita Muffin or my homemade zucchini muffin with this. Sometimes, an egg w a sl of bacon & a muffin.

Night snack - yogurt (lo-carb/lo-fat) with peanutbutter (Simply Jiff).

I still end up with around 40-50% of my calories being from carbs, but they're low-glycemic carbs & my blood sugar stays down.

I have pretty much eliminated bread/potatoes/rice from my diet. Sometimes, I'll have whole grain bread, brown rice, or sweet potatoes, but not often. I don't eat sugar-based foods. I use Splenda as my sweetner of choice.

Good Morning,

The wedding went fine. I looked fine. People wear all kinds of things to weddings these days, don't they? Why do I worry about these little things?

I did eat well at the wedding but watched portions. Sunday, however, I did have a rootbeer float from Culvers. I can make good choices but I do not make them often enough and consistently.

I did my exercises on Sunday night. It really felt good to do them after a busy weekend. I am going to weigh in on Wednesday and then each Wednesday from there on.

Nothing special to gab about today, I have to pack up a couple dozen hats for a over 55 'Pacesetters' program at church. The whole program is centered around hats and everyone is suppose to wear one. I have about 3 dozen and I volunteered to bring some in for those that do not wear hats to church or anywhere else.

Hello all. Welcome back Rosey. My computer was in the shop a couple of months ago and I was just lost so I know how you feel. Some days it's just like an extension of my body.

Today we had instant mashed potatoes with dinner. I usually don't use them for regular meals but they are handy when I want a small portion for mom. But as I'm not buying any groceries until at least Thursday and we needed potatoes with dinner today that's what we had. This not buying groceries is going pretty good. I found a can of green peas in the cupboard behind some mushroom soup so that gives me an extra vegetable for tomorrow's dinner. The vegetable situation is tricky but tomorrow we'll have the green peas and corn (which is actually a grain). And we'll have macaroni and cheese made with rigatoni instead of elbow macaroni and baked beans made with canned white kidney beans and canned plain soy beans. The beans will have ketchup, molasses and onions added and baked a few hours to meld the flavors. (I'm obsessed with food.) We have dinner at lunch time so suppers are lighter meals.

I didn't get any exercise in yesterday but we took mom out for a ride and went into Walmart so I wheeled her around for about an hour. I ate well and then around 11 pm I broke down and ate as much food as I could cram into my mouth for about a half hour. I figured it was about 800 calories...sigh... so I put them on today's intake and ate very light for dinner (no mashed potatoes, mostly vegetables). For supper I'll have an apple and maybe a tablespoon of peanut butter to dip the apple slices in. I exercised today for an hour on my bike and went 19 k. That's the farthest I've gone but I noticed the tension was on one of the lower settings. I find I can work up a better sweat that way.

Must go and get supper for DH and mom. Have a good day everyone.

Life is not a 'brief candle.' It is a splendid torch that must be made to burn as brightly as possible before it is handed on to the next generation.

- George Bernard Shaw, Irish critic and playwright

A great morning today, the sun is shining and we have a nice breeze for drying clothes out on the line. I'm going to attempt 3 loads on my clothes lines, I have the pull out type attached to the garage and not sure they'll hold 3 loads.
Our chickens are finally out of their funk and started laying eggs again. We only averaged about 1 a day thru the winter, they have two windows in the coop but evidently not enough light to keep them laying much.
I posted a new chocolate chip recipe that uses whole wheat flour, I'm going to try them today. I'll let you know how they turn out, I don't make these for me but hubby. I usually take a bite of one to see how they turned out, if my constitution is especially strong I'll spit the bite out in the garbage disposal.
My washer just clicked off, gotta get my 1st load out. I used the last of my homemade soap too, I'll need to make another batch. Any of you use homemade laundry soap? It's easy and cheap.
Catch ya tomorrow.
Lynn...I don't think I'll join the accountability this time around, when it gets to be a hassle to post I stop. Spring time is so busy for us living out in the country with so much to care for outside. But for you that join it, I'll check in to see who means business!

Morning Ladies,

Hubby said my tummy is getting flatter. Wow! I don't think so but glad he gave me the compliment.

Today I will walk an extra long walk because the weather here is so nice.

Last night I made turkey drumstricks (bbq'd) and sweet potatoes. Tasted good and I don't think too high in calories.

Have a great day.

Hello you wonderful, lovely (((((Golden Girls))))! :grouphug:

you can't imagine how excited I was to actually have a moment to sit down at the computer, find that my log in to 3FC still works and my wonderful friends are still here!!

Lynn, Bobbi, Karen3, Linda, Rosey, Freda, Isabella, Karen31 (sigh) I have been such a bad keeper in toucher but I think of you all so often. Even though I'm not around posting, (and pesting) you'd be surprised how much all of you have kept me on track.

I'm afraid I just didn't have the time to go back through all those posts that I have missed but it looks like you are all well?

I have been so busy on that new job I told you all about that I actually work at my desk now instead of posting on 3FC  I have even been working through my lunches. The poor department was in truly sad shape and I now have a very short time to get every one trained and up to snuff on FDA compliance. Very challenging, occasionally frustrating, sometimes a little scary, but exhilarating as well. Believe me, no matter how hard I have to work or how many hours I'm putting in, I feel so blessed to have just sort of fallen into such a great job when others are having such struggles finding any sort of work at all.

I am proud (and amazed) to say that I have still not had a cigarette since November 15th! I remember all of you being so encouraging when I said I was quitting so I wanted to share that I have not slipped even once! (came close to having some second hand smoke once but managed to duck ;) )

A little less glowing on the scale but not as bad as it could be - I managed to lose back the 8 lbs I gained between the holidays and the quitting smoking but promptly put 5 of it back on. I have pretty much been gaining back and re-losing the same 5 lbs for the last 3 months. On the one hand, since I've been able to keep it to a 5 lb swing, I pretty much consider myself maintaining but I'm a little disappointed that I'm still not into those 'honeymoon' jeans yet.

I know the reason - I'm not making myself take the time to log in FitDay, and post on 3FC. OK, well, being inconsistant with my exercise program plays in there too. I've been sticking to a pretty good walking program but it's just not the same without some strength training in there too. I think I need to really focus and recommit to the 'just me' again. DH survived the 'just me' syndrome for nearly an entire year, I guess he'll survive it again  You know, I think I'll request a screen name change in just to keep me focused - how's yoyonomoreinvegas sound? :D

I think I found some then and now pics to share but having a little challenge getting them attachable. I'll work on it (and try not to let it take 3 months before I post again)

Ha - same old windbag! Some things never change

Good Morning,

I weighed this morning. No weight loss. I was not suprised. My diet is my downfall and also I know I need to burn more calories with my exercise routine. Still, I feel I am headed in the right direction.

I watched Biggest Loser last night. Those people are very inspiring. I wish the show would talk more about nutrition though and not just the exercise and the pounds lost.

Good Morning!
Nice to hear from you again Yoyo, I lose and gain the same pounds too. When I don't post my foods on Fitday, I gain. But sometimes I just get sick of counting every calorie.:p
Cindy........ I love the biggest loser and have always rooted for Tara, I think she wins all the challenges first in her mind. (She said she can't stand seeing anyone in front of her) Phillip should have paced himself, he always started out strong in the challenges, then poops out. I also wished they show more of the foods that ate.

I've changed my mind about Tara, I think I'd rather see Mikey win, he is so sweet and both him and his dad are going to have a big challenge when they get home. Mike's brother is grossly overweight and really needs someone to look up to and help him.
Enough about that, I need to get some stuff together and head out. Our grandson is in surgery right now and we're going over to wait it out with our daughter. The surgery will last between 7 and 8 hours, he's having his top and bottom jaw opened up, splints put in to widen them. He has braces on his teeth and this surgery will correct his over bite. He might have to have his jaws wired shut, depends on how the surgery goes. I'm bringing crossword puzzles over to make the time go faster.
You all have a great day!

Hey, Yoyo, good to see you again. I am also gaining and losing the same 5 pounds or so. I've just buckled down again and am determined to get to goal before I'm 60!! (I'll be 57 in May.) I guess once your job settles down you will be able to think about losing more weight but until then I'd be more than thrilled to have kept from smoking again. Congratulations on that great achievement.

Bobbi, hope everything goes well with your grandson. I had a friend who had a similar procedure done and it was really a great improvement to her. Not only did she look different around the mouth but she could chew her food better.

Cindy, you'll find the right mix of exercise and calories. Just don't give up. I only have 2 TV channels and don't get the Biggest Loser until tonight on a rebroadcast. I didn't even know the station was airing the show until a few weeks ago. I love that show.

Today I made a mandarin orange cake using the last egg in the house. (I need one of your chickens, Bobbi.) It's so good I couldn't believe how easy it was to make. I'm going to post it in the recipe section and try and get the nutritional values, too.

I'm also working on the wedding favor bags today. I finally got the ribbon for the handles and I have all the blue bags finished and have 10 of the yellow bags done. That leaves me with 40 more to go. I'm trying to get them all finished before next week.

I've been very faithfully tracking my calories and doing my exercise (of some sort) at least 5 days a week so I'm hoping I'll see some kind of difference come this Saturday morning.

Well, I'll catch you all later. Have a good day.

Good Morning ladies, I've spent all my time reading the posts and now don't have much time left before I have to get ready for work.

Latest news.......when my friends came on Sunday to "move a few things", they wound up moving ALL of the heavy stuff, including the beds, so we have been in the new house since Sunday. We went back on Monday and got all the rest of the small things.

I've been up and down, emotions run so high in these times. But, I've been mainly up, and doing good. I forget to eat, I'm so busy trying to get things put away. Yesterday I push mowed the yard, and got in some great exercise.

Today I am down another 2 lbs, but I know that I have to start eating again. I can't let myself get sick.

I made my dreaded call to my brother to let him know what has happened. He is the kind of person that could fall into a pile of poop and come out smelling like a rose......he is very easily offended, and I guess he intimidates me. I explained what had happened, and after talking for a bit, he told me that he thinks me leaving was the smartest thing that I have done in a lonnnnnnnnnnng time. He began to talk about how he had felt about my hub since he had met him, and the things that he saw, and was so glad that I was finally leaving him. Boy oh boy, did that make me feel better.

So, anyway, sorry that I don't have time to post to everyone, but hope all goes well with everyone today.

Have a great day in your neighborhood!

Susann

Good Morning!
Thanks for the good vibes toward my grandson, he was in surgery for about 6 hours yesterday and looks like he was run over by a Mac truck. He was unable to talk, but he texted on the computer. Tiffany purchased a new baby laptop for him, it's so cute. He has to stay in the hospital for a couple of days so his laptop will help the long days.
Susann...I'm glad you finally talked to your brother, knowing he understands should reinforce your need to end the marriage. I'll bet it feels good to come home and have no stress of seeing your ex.
Isabella...the cake recipe sounds really good, I'm going to make it maybe tomorrow.
I have to get ready now, we're off to see Damian again today.
You all have a good day.

Hi Susann,

We each handle stress in our own ways. If you are having trouble with eating enough & balanced meals, how about protein bars/drinks until you can manage shopping/cooking/planning/counting? I periodically use Nugo bars, soy protein powder drinks, and glucerna bars/drinks as substitutes for meals.

Hi Everyone,

Finished class totally yesterday, but am in a workshop today. Tomorrow, I should be back to "normal" and able to read everyone's posts & make my replies.

Need to get back to workshop (online, of course), clean up my house, and get ready for visit from my DF.

Morning Girls,

Not much new today. I skipped my workout yesterday. I just did not feel up to it. I did do daily chores and laundry though and that is a lot of steps in this big old house. It should count for something, right?

Hello to all....can't believe April is wrapping up already. I've been busy with life stuff, won't bore you with the dull details. I'm itching to plant some flowers but it's still to early here. The rule in the pacific nw is not to plant until after mom's day....and even then you may not be safe.
Eating has been 98% on track. I'm still needing to work on portions...so what else is new? and get more exercise going too. I might start on the May accountability thread for that.
Susann<----fresh start. Sending you good vibes hon  Don't be too demanding of yourself right now....if you want to have a pity party, well, go for it! It's normal to have the downs too.....even though you know you are making the right decision for you, it's still not easy.
Bobbie<---prayers for continued healing of your grandson
Waving to everybody else! Welcome to the new and returning folks....:)
