100 lb. Club - So excited!!

Last week I decided to mix things up a bit by trying South Beach phase 1. I did it back in 2003 but not since then... just have been counting calories etc. But I've stalled for SO LONG that I figured I needed to do something different. I wanted to get rid of the horrible, insane cravings for carbs and sugar, so I picked SB.
I weighed 240 pounds about 2 weeks ago. One week ago I weighed 236. And today I weigh 228! I actually got back down to my ticker weight! I am just thrilled!
I've been eating lots... snacking lots... mostly lean meats, low fat dairy, nuts, beans, veggies, healthy fats. I feel really good! I did a little calc in my head and I am still eating close to the same number of calories/day I was before (1500), but no junk. And no binges. I walk a mile a day. I am excited I may finally be breaking out of this ridiculous plateau (a year, basically).
Thanks to all... I love how supportive this forum has ALWAYS been for me!

That's great!
I have not tried South Beach but my current diet has freed me from those horrible, insane cravings for carbs and sugar. It is amazing what a difference that makes. I thought that I would always have those cravings!

I'm so happy for you, Lyn. I've been hoping for a long time that you'd do another trial of getting off sugar and seeing how that works for you. It's really miraculous, isn't it?

It IS miraculous. It really, really is. I fought it for such a long time. I would hear that that was the way to go - to get rid of the sugar. And I just couldn't see *me* doing it. I'd hear it time and time again and think - "I'm doomed", cause there's no way on earth I could give it up. And after finally deciding that I was ready to do "whatever it takes", I said "I'll give it a try, I'm THAT desperate". So - I gave it a try :).
I should have listened sooner. It WAS the way to go.

Totally in agreement about the sugar. I BEAT that demon down with a veggie stick and I am SO GLAD that I did. It's made my life SO much easier!

Yeah, I wasn't mentally ready to give up sugar before. I had an epiphany with a peanut butter egg last week and that was it.
I have a problem with sugar, I know that, and I am not sure if I will/can give it up *forever,* but I can do it *for now* and we'll just keep going and see what happens. So far, so good!

Lyn, like you, it's not only sugar that I had to ban. It was the carbs as well. The flour-y, rice-y, ones that is. I get PLENTY of carbs in my diet, but just the ones that come from veggies and fruit, though in the very beginning, I limited the fruit as well.

since I'm in maintenance, I've brought it back in - but in very, very controlled settings, with lots of rules attached. Because once I DID bring it back in - sure enough - the cravings for it came back.

I gave it up the first time when I was 25, and miraculously lost weight. Then I went back on it, I guess I thought I was "cured"...what a sucky decision -that- was. Took me until nearly 40 to figure it out again :/ But again I am miraculously losing weight and feeling amazing, since May last year.
I really get the whole "but I don't wanna give it up" thing with sugar. I really, really do. But I think even more so now I have realized how dangerous and evil it is for me.
And like Robin, I also had to give up most starchy / white carbs. Such bad stuff for me.
