Support Groups - "Every-Day" 21-Day Challenge -- Let's get serious!

03-26-2009, 09:13 PM
Okay, everyone, as is the tradition, I start a new thread when I personally start a new challenge.

Below is a short explanation of how this challenge works so all you newcomers can take a look and decide if you're game or not! I hope you are! Hop aboard and enjoy the ride. We've got a great bunch of supportive people, so I hope you'll give us a try. A lot of people try for a while and then disappear.. I hope some of you will keep trying. There is NO shame in starting over. Remember, it's not over till you give up. And our motto around here is:

NEVER GIVE UP!!...Just start OVER!!

It works like this: you decide you'll do something for 21 days straight, every single day, so keep it doable. Then you count through 21.....and if you flub it, you MUST go back to zero and start over again. Everyone will be on different days. You can start anytime. At the beginning of the challenge you declare what level it is -- Level 1, 2, or 3. Level 1 means you feel it's a relatively easy challenge for you and means you only give yourself ONE pause day (see explanation of pause days below). Level 2 would give you two pause days and so on...
And taking NO pause days is what I'm going to call "aceing a challenge," as in "I'm aiming on aceing this one!" Yowzah!! :cb:

With a pause day you pause in your counting and continue the next day with the number you left off with. Pause days are NOT substitutes for days, i.e. Day 12 -- Day 13 -- Pause Day -- Day 14..... I suggest taking a pause day late in the game (better to go back to Day 1 early on) if you need a break or screw up when you're well into the challenge, meaning, when you're on Day 15 or something like that.

In any case, the trick is to keep going. The momentum builds and it's great incentive to stick to your guns, cause if you don't.........back to START you go. :( And the really great thing about this challenge is that you are forming new habits that will wipe out the old! AND, you get to do it with a great bunch of really supportive people to whom you are accountable! :grouphug:

In the interest of maintaining structure, a sense of solidarity and facilitating support I ask anyone who wishes to join this thread to please strive to follow the following guidelines while participating in this challenge and in posting.

1. Although this is a fabulous support group, the focus is to be on your CHALLENGE/S and/or other people's challenge/s AND weight loss, whether your challenge is about it or not. Please keep the challenge a priority, although we welcome chattiness! This means tell us what day you're on when you post and it's a good idea to make regular mention of just what your challenge is. This an action-based thread. Our members are ON a challenge, RESTARTING a challenge, or just in between and looking to start up again REAL SOON. ;) We also welcome posts from admirers, encouragers, and old friends!

2. Please refrain from posting food logs or recipes, except where you are really looking for help and advice on your eating. If journaling is your challenge, please keep the journaling off the thread and in a notebook or blog and just tell us if you've done what you set out to do. We have ALL types of dieters here, low-carb, high-carb, low-fat, high-fat, vegetarians, meat-lovers...please use simple mentions if you have something you want to share and then links and/or private messages to do so.

3. Please do NOT go into glowing accounts of any slipups, food indulgences or binges, what we here call "food porn." Simple mentions are fine, but use of smilies :censored: :tape: etc. as substitutes where possible is encouraged.

4. Please keep this a secular thread. Of course, passing references to your beliefs, a bit of introduction about your beliefs, brief faith-related words of encouragement are fine.

5. Please show support, support, support! This is key. :grouphug: You can waffle on about yourself but please, at least occasionally, come up and look around at others and what they are doing and MENTION it with words of encouragement and/or praise or sympathy. We understand "busy," poor computer connections, and bouts of self-pity and life problems where the focus turns to "me" and dealing with those problems, but these should be temporary, not a habit! ('cept in the computer case.)

In conclusion, let me say, the above are just that, GUIDELINES. Please realize that these guidelines have been added in an attempt to keep this a supportive and beneficial thread, at the LEAST, to those who need it MOST, those for whom weight loss is the hardest and, more often than not, the most crucial as well as for those who still, perhaps despite great success, know all too well that the road they walk will always be a slippery one. :^:

The guidelines are also meant to cultivate an atmosphere of consideration and concern for ALL, not individually, but AS A GROUP.

Well, all's said. Please join us!!

03-26-2009, 10:05 PM
I've started a lot of these threads and this is the FIRST time I've used an angry face in the title. It's not pleasant looking (well...that's why it's angry) but it means I mean business!!
Anyone who wants/needs/aspires to meaning business, please join me!!
See you here!!

Oh, yeah, my challenge.
I'm declaring THE NO. 1 BIG ONE for me -- Calorie counting
I'll be sticking to my usual plan of 1,500 calories plus exercise allotment according to MY PLAN. It works when I follow is the way often with plans ;) Three pauses are allowed. Here we go on Day 1...up and at 'em!!! :dancer:

03-26-2009, 10:41 PM
Redballoon, I think this is an awesome idea!!
My challenge is going to exercise at least 30 mins everyday, I usually do it for 2-3 days then stop for a few days and so on but I think this will be a great way to motivate me to keep it up :)
Three pauses allowed for me, even though I hope I don't need them!
Good luck with your challenge!!!!
Day 1 done :D

03-27-2009, 08:21 AM
Caleighsmommy, hello! Good to have you join us. You sound like you have one tough challenge! Best of luck!! :goodluck:

Day 9 completed, run! 1 pause left.
New thread! That's always good news, it means Red has had success, she's on a roll! Keep it going Red!!
And hello to Caleighsmommy! Thanks for joining us. The more folks we have here the better. Encouragement and advice from different points of view are always appreciated. You chose a great challenge, and since you're already in the habit, stringing on a few more days will be easy!
I was reading a post last night from the success! forum and the chick brought up the fact that for her, just some extra exercise wasn't enough. She really needed to change her eating habits. And while I wish I could just exercise the extra calories away, I guess I really have to limit what's going in. So I'll be counting calories, and for an extra food challenge, no dessert items AT ALL. And guess what? I have 2 social events coming up this week-end that might prove to be difficult to avoid dessert, so I'm starting those challenges on Sunday. I'll start practicing the calorie counting anyway....

03-27-2009, 10:23 PM
Well, I do NOT have liftoff. :( I was doing so well last week, four days sticking to my plan and exercising like a fiend. Then, the swollen face, swollen eyelids, wrinkles like a 100-year-old set in and I crashed. I mean, who wouldn't? It's supposed to be about looking better, not looking worse. Allergies, pms, worries and disappointments with my horse, I guess it all came together to do it on top of having actually lost weight and my body being exhausted. Why has it become so difficult? I guess this is truly what age does to you. Just when you start to get things together (after a lifetime!) your body changes on you again. Oh well, I'll just have to learn from this, despite being disgusted that I am once again back at the start. Why does it have to be so difficult for me? Damn, I am really disgusted with the whole thing. You would think I could get it right.

Well, enough of the rant. I can see I have to get off sugar again. Once I start counting calories it's not long before I start saying, "Oh, OK, as long as the calorie count is OK, it's all OK and that's not true." The body can't repair the damage from exercise with chocolate bars. Enough!

Here's to trying again. I'm going to specify my challenges later...

Apple -- Good to see you over here! Well, I had success but it was just the apple. I shouldn't belittle it though. I didn't even bother to eat it yesterday and instead continued on my binge. So, maybe it does help as I said it did. You see, the first thing to go are the things you said did help. What a loser I am. Well, good luck on your new challenges. I'm going to be doing some similar ones again, like no sugar. Will announce them later.

Caleigh -- How are you doing? :listen:

03-28-2009, 07:58 AM
Well, I've decided to alter my challenge. Counting to 1,500 is still too hard for me AND, what's worse is that I fear I will give up eating good food just because of the calories. I will AIM for the kind of calorie count that will let me lose weight but I will not call it a failure (i.e. not be able to notch a day) if I go over a certain number. Even during the short time I was actually sticking to a count, I started learning how to measure and calculate..ah, "learning" is not the word, rather I started DOING it.

Also, I am continuing the apple challenge because I think it really did keep me thinking ahead about food instead of just stuffing whatever I found along the way into my mouth.

Also...drum roll....I am doing a no sugar, no highly processed foods (that means snacks and such) challenge again.

Here we go! :spin:

03-28-2009, 06:43 PM
Well, very quiet in here again. Apple, Caleigh, you hanging in there? :listen:

I have liftoff!!

It's Sunday morning here. Here's to a good day.

03-28-2009, 08:45 PM
I'm going to be joining this challenge. I want to workout EVERYday, AND no desserts!

I'm excited to start this challenge!:D I'll take 3 pause days...I hope to use none though!!

Good luck to you ALL! Good luck to me!! Here's to doing this 21 day challenge in hopes of starting a new life of a healthy lifestyle!!:cheer:

DAY 2 - DONE!! :D

03-29-2009, 07:43 PM
Pretty good day here. Ate too much but at least I steered clear off sugar (and it didn't run out and hit me!) Had the apple too and wish now I had bought one for today so I could get it cut and packed early. Good point to remember...

Day 2 on No Sugar Challenge complete
Day 2 on Counting Calories complete
Day 2 on Apple Challenge complete

Saramommy -- Welcome to the challenge! :welcome: Tough challenge! Are the workout and dessert one challenge, meaning if you blow one you are going to have to take a pause or start over, or are they separate factors? Congrats on a successful liftoff!! :cp:

Day 11 completed, run! 1 pause left.
No Dessert type food, on the blocks, 2 pauses allowed
I guess I missed posting yesterday. Ooops. Well, I was going to start the no desserts today but I already goofed. So tomorrow for sure. I don't think the calorie count will be an actual challenge. Maybe I'll call it a "Good Choices" challenge. I'll keep mulling that one over.
Good to see you here, Saramommy. We'll be on this no desserts together. It should be a piece of cake....hahahahah:rofl:
Red, maybe your body just doesn't like change. So stick to it!!!

03-29-2009, 07:58 PM
I hadn't really thought about it...I think I'll have them as two separate challenges, if that's okay.

Day 1 & Day 2 on exercise - Complete

Day 1 & Day 2 on NO desserts - complete

03-29-2009, 08:19 PM
Apple -- There you are! I had to laugh at your "maybe your body just doesn't like change." My entire being doesn't like change! I was just thinking that as I was making vegetable juice and thinking I should start a Change Challenge. It's true. I am a creature (and you can take that literally) of habit. The same hairstyle, the same clothes, the same foods, the same living place, work, everything I do is about routine and habit and, obviously, at least some of that has got to change if I want to see changes. Ah, duh...
But I guess that's what you could call new habits. They are changes. My apple a day certainly was a change and I like it. And you know, actually your earlier joke was probably useful in that I should or could make it a daily ANYthing and it would help. I should probably pick some fruit coming into season and do that for three weeks. But, for now, I'll still make it an apple. Anyhow, enough of me...
You are doing grand!! :flow1: How did you get to Day 11 already? :?: Get on that dessert challenge..she says, she whom it took weeks to get back on no sugar. ;) I like the Good Choices Challenge. It's kind of what I'm doing with mine.
Ok, later!

Sara -- Fine on separating them. The other way is just too discouraging if you slip up. Good luck!

03-29-2009, 11:21 PM
Hi all,
Although, I feel like I'm doing great with my two challenges (only 2 days in, haha). I feel like I need to eliminate something else out of my diet.

So, my 3rd challenge starting tomorrow will be NO BAD FAST FOOD. To clarify, a healthy menu item is okay (salad, turkey subway sandwich). NO HAMBURGERS, NO FRENCH FRIES, etc...:nono:

So now my challenge is this:

Exercise daily - DAY 2

NO desserts - DAY 2

NO BAD FAST FOOD - Starts tomorrow 3/30/09

So there ya have it!!:crossed:

03-30-2009, 05:47 PM
Fly by, people.
Day 3 completed on all fronts

Good going Saramommy!! :cp:

03-30-2009, 06:01 PM
Hello all! This sounds like a fun idea! I have 4 runs of 21 days to get myself through until my goal date so I might as well add a little challenge into the mix! All of you sound like you're doing great!

Here are my challenges:
Alcohol - no more than 1 serving/day during the week and no more than 3 low-cal drinks on weekends. I plan on aceing this one! (although it is by far the hardest, it's also my trigger so will have the biggest effect on everything else.)

Junk food - Chips and candy/chocolate are NOT ALLOWED. I'll give myself 2 pause days.

Activity - I will be active in some way or another for at least 30 min a day. The effort will be made to exercise 3+ days a week but sometimes my schedule doesn't allow more than a dog walk. 3 pause days.

I'm going to be treating all of these as a COMBINED CHALLENGE so that if I screw up on one it means I have to go back to the start for all of them. No fooling around! :)

Wishing all of you good luck! (And wishing myself some too!)

03-30-2009, 07:24 PM
HI :) Can I join in? I thought this would be a great way to start out my journey.

My goal is going to be no junk food. Sugar is my weakness. So I think this is where I will focus first. I will start tomorrow since I already ate a cookie today :( I will give myself 3 pause days since this is my first challenge and this is going to be hard in general because of Easter! haha...but I am going to try not to use any :)

Wish me luck girls!

Day 12 completed, run! 1 pause left.
No Dessert type food, still on the starting blocks, 2 pauses allowed
"Good Choices", on the starting blocks, 2 pauses allowed
Yes, this RUN! challenge is going by quickly! I like it too.
As for the no desserts, I have already screwed it up today, I had an illegal sweet with my coffee. Not a lot, mind you, I'm counting cals today and so far so good. So did I complete "Good Choices" for today? I think I will say no.
My kids are needing me, I'll post more later...

03-30-2009, 09:52 PM
Hey guys, I haven't checked in the last few days because my internet wasn't working, finally got a tech out here and its fixed :) Not only was my internet gone but my phone and cable as well, and I got bored, what do I do when I get bored? EAT. So I was totally off my plan the last 3 days and didnt even exercise, I don't know whats wrong with me I finallygot down to 168, and was sooo happy because I couldnt get past 170 for a while and then what did I do that night? Eat fast food and junk. I dont know why it's like I sabatoge myself. I havent stepped on the scale but I know its probably not good, my weigh in is tomorrow, hoping for the best. Sooo back to day one for me. I aslo want to add staying within my points range to my challenge ( I am on WW).
Exercise : Complete

Day 13 completed, run! 1 pause left.
No Dessert type food, still on the starting blocks, 2 pauses allowed
"Good Choices", on the starting blocks, 2 pauses allowed
Well, last night my "run" was Wii fit running in place. At least I sort of ran, right? I also rode a stationary bike for a while. Good on the exercise.
I counted cals and came in around 1600, which I'm planning on being my upper limit, so not bad for the first day.
Prepping Bride, your goal date, which is your wedding!!!!! :congrat:is the same goal date as mine, because that's the day my brother is getting married! Neat. We need to stick together, there's not much time....
Saramommy, GREAT job on choosing the salad!! I'm not sure I'm strong enough to make that choice. But I'm to the point where I really HAVE TO say no to that kind of stuff if I'm going to succeed by the end of June.
Welcome to mommy2three, I have 3 also, ages 5,9 &11. Good luck with your challenge! We're here to help.
Caleighsmom, welcome back. It's a wonder we ever survived with out the internet, isn't it? You must of had a lot more free time while it was down. Don't despair, just learn from it and get back into it!

03-31-2009, 09:08 PM
Ok, people, glad to see a bit of action around here. BUT, what is it with all the "mommy" names?
I'm floundering with my challenges. I blew the no sugar and junk yesterday because I was dead tired and yet had no push on. Ridiculous. Today, being April 1, is a good place to start over. The apple challenge holds but I'm restarting the others, with a bit of changes. I am going to retry the calorie count and allow some junk. I think this does prevent bingeing. I just have to be stricter with myself and see that I get good food into me. Perhaps I should start other challenges similar to the apple one. I know that without that challenge I would never get the fruit in. OK, more later...

Day 4 complete on Apple Challenge! :)

Apple -- Excellent going! :bravo:

preppin, Mommy, Caleigh, Sara, welcome :welcome2: and/or good luck! :goodluck:

03-31-2009, 10:27 PM
I had my weigh in today and despite my slip up, I was down 3.8:carrot:
That really motivates me to keep going and complete this challenge!

Apple blossom- how's the no dessert challenge going for you?? Any recent temptations?? That one is a hard one for me! The no fast food is hard too!!!!

On to the challenge!

Day 4 complete!!!

-Exercise daily

-NO desserts ...hard for me to pass up the donuts this morning at a morning meeting..but did :D

-NO bad fast food

04-01-2009, 06:21 PM

DAY 5 COMPLETE :carrot:

-Exercise daily

-NO desserts

-NO bad fast food

04-01-2009, 10:13 PM
Heh there.

Day 5 is complete on the Apple Challenge.

I failed again on the others. I was doing well, meaning being conscious of calories and adding them up, and then I just blew it by going out drinking with coworkers. I feel so unfulfilled by my work, like the entire day has been wasted, that I then want to "do" something for myself and truly waste it by overeating or drinking. I wish I could get a different mindset that would really bring the fallacy of this thinking home.
I will keep trying though. I have not yet given up. At least I am thinking.
Also, I am still smoking. After 20 years off cigarettes I am smoking continuously when I drink. I am stopping as of today, every day, all the time, also when drinking. If I feel I am going to be tempted, it usually means the conversation and the company I'm keeping is a poor choice. That's the fact of it.

No cigs Day 0 completed!

Sara -- Look at you go! :running: Great balls of fire! Good stuff. And, oh, I have nothing against mommy names and wasn't wondering "why?!" It was just that all of a sudden we had so many of them. It was just bizarre!! :spin: I like your avatar, by the way! Keep up the good work! :cheer2:

unwanted37 -- Welcome! :welcome: That's a toughie. Best of luck! :goodluck:

Caleigh -- Congrats on the pounds off! :bravo: And good work on your challenge!! By the way, your weight under your avatar is off. It looks though like you've already lost some 30 lbs. Way to go!! :cp: :cp: :cp:

Apple, preppin, Mommy2three, how are you all doing?? :listen:

04-01-2009, 11:21 PM
Day 3 Completed!!!
I exercised for 45 mins today!! I'm so proud of myself :) Also just out of curisoty I tried on my pre pregnancy jeans (I am only 4lbs heavier then when I got pregnant) and they fit!!!! A little snug but not bad, not like I had to hop and suck in to get them up!! :carrot: I chose Caleighsmommy because its my user id on fitday haha I am a new mommy and very proud of it!

Unwanted- Good luck on your challenge!! :)

Sara- Woohoo day 5!! Great job :cp:

Redballoon- Congrats on day 5 of your Apple Challenge, may I ask what exactly is your apple challenge? haha Great decision to stop smoking, I have never smoked in my life but my bf does and I've watched him try to quit many times and I know how tough it is so the best of luck!! Thanks for telling me about the weight 1702 pounds!!! hahahaha that actually made me laugh out loud, it was supposed to be 170.2 lol.

How is everyone else doing with their challenges? The best of luck to everyone and hope to see you checking in soon (with days completed!!)

04-01-2009, 11:33 PM
Caleigh -- Oh, that's wonderful news!! :sunny: I'm so happy for you. Not only the 45 minutes of exercise but the jeans fitting (and NO hopping or sucking!! :spin: :lol3: ) Good for you!!
My apple challenge sounds lame but it is only to eat an apple every day. It actually is harder than it sounds. I am very busy, out of my home all day most of the time and I tend to just grab food here and there and a lot of it is not the healthiest. I have to plan, prepare and pack things if I want to lose weight and stay healthy and committing to the apple means I have to do all those things. They are healthy and pack easily and are very filling, so I like the challenge. It's my second round too.
Well, keep up that good work. Thanks for being supportive of everyone. That's the spirit!

04-02-2009, 08:30 AM
Well, I still can't get my equilibrium to tackle the big challenges, but I am thinking about it. I have to do something workable, something that works amidst chaos. :^:

For now...

Day 6 is done on Apple Challenge
Day 1 is done on No Cigs Challenge

04-02-2009, 10:15 AM
day 1 of 3 miles complete
total for this month: 3 miles

I did 2 miles walking, then did weights, then did 1 mile more to be 3 miles total... will that counts? everything was within 1 1/2 hours.

04-02-2009, 10:53 AM
Red- Doesnt sound lame to me! I always try to keep apples, oranges, etc around the house because I too am always on the go or just plain busy and it's a lot better to grab the peice of fruit than the tempting chocolate bar or bag of chips my bf has around!! haha I'm glad you finished day 1 of no cigs, do you find you get cranky when trying to quit? Good luck with all your challenges!

Unwanted- Woohoo!! :carrot: You're off to a great start!! Of course it counts!! It's your challenge, you make up the rules! I'm happy to hear that your also doing weights, I try to do them whenever possible. I hate my arms and want to tone them. Good luck on your challenge, it's a tough one!

04-02-2009, 01:48 PM
Hello all!

Caleighsmommy, you're doing wonderful! wtg on the jeans! I'm at the top end of my jeans "fitting"... in 10 lbs they'll look and feel so much better. At 170 lbs the love handles go away so I'm super looking forward to that.

redbaloon, just keep on truckin! you can do it :D And the apple idea doesn't sound silly at all. :)

Unwanted, you're my hero! exercise is my biggest challenge and I'm hoping to fix that!

Not-so-good news... still on Day 1!!! The alcohol and junk food have been okay but I'm not active so I'm penalizing all points rather than breaking them up. I did get a gym membership yesterday though!!!! I'll be going to Yoga tonight!

So... Still on Day 1 of:
- Alcohol in moderation (max 1 glass on weekdays, 3 on weekends)
- NO junk food
- 30 min of activity/day

Have a wonderful day everyone!

04-02-2009, 05:47 PM
here is my secret to exersice:
I have 2 kids (3 and 10 months) - everything is on the schedule. We get up, have breakfast, do 1 hours of preschool with my 3 year old, 1 hours of free time, lunch, nap, snack, 4pm gym, fron gym kids go home, i go to work till 11pm. And this is every day life. i think it pretty tight schedule. But we achieve all that if we follow it. So if I put gym as my normal day activity then i know its not an option. And just like traning my son to go potty on a toilet - at first he has to go and try, I dont make it as his option - every hour we go no matter what. If not he may have acedents in his pants. Bathroom is not an option. And from that i learned that skipping daily exercise is not an option FOR ME. So march 22 we got family membership to our local small gym. And they have day care there for 2 hours. So every day at 4pm is a gym time. You might think it would be boring after a while but having little goals (like we do have here as 21 days chalange) make the whole month go fast and before you know it April is gone and you've been to the gym every day :) I set my goal to 3 miles a day because i know it can be done. Eventually i want to learn to run it. FOr now its just brisk walking. And now gym is a like a drug to me. I just soooo love the feeling of pushing my body to its limit. And while i was at work i thought of something else - before excercising i couldnt feel my body's parts, i mean i was some what healthy but thast it, now even when rested i can feel how my muscels are tired and how they are existing now. i just love how my legs feel inside and i cant wait to go to the gym to have "pushing-body-to-its-limit" again :)

PM: i used to have a membership to the same gym about 3 years ago but went 3 times a week. And because it was not every day it didnt become my lifestyle. Every day i would wake up and would be like "oh its gym day"...the next day "oh its not a gym day"...and so forth. So i guess my mind and body was connfused and that led to lack of motivation in a long run. I quit going after second week. I had no decire to go back, Now i do it every day and for me its not an option :) and i love every minut of it.

I now set the schedule :
Monday - cardio + weights
Tuesday - cardio
Wednesday - cardio + weights
Thursday - cardio
Friday - cardio + weights
Saturday - cardio
Sunday - cardio + weights

redballoon :goodluck: on your challenge to quit smoking! How are you doing??

...maybe I should challenge myself to stop popping my knuckles, an annoying habit my husband hates! Nah, I'll do that challenge later. I already have enough challenges for this month :)

-Exercise daily

-NO desserts

-NO bad fast food

Good morning, all. It's Friday morning here already and I am drinking a huge glass of my vegetable juice smoothie. It's a beautiful green and actually tastes good!

Glad to see all the action around here. We (Apple and I) were going for weeks just the two of us. New threads always bring a flutter of activity and I think too that spring in the air helps. The cherry blossoms are blooming over here and it is utter fantasia-like!

unwanted37 -- I usually just write the first part of a person's sign-on name but with you I can't stand thinking of you as unwanted, which is what it sounds like without the 37. I don't remember the original rules of your challenge but as long as you are doing something every day, then it fits the parameters of this thread. Go, go, go!! :cheer2: :cheer2: Oh, and unwanted, I like the analogy of potting training with attempting challenges. :lol3: I guess you could say that not getting to the gym in my case is the equivalent of having an my pants!

Caleigh -- Glad my apple challenge sounds OK to you. I think it is a great lesson actually. It's funny with the smoking. I only do it when I'm drinking with the guys (although I must admit that when the weather warms up I was sitting in my doorway at home with the music on inside and smoking) so I don't miss it at all when I'm not drinking, which isn't all that often. It's just weird. I go from nothing to everything, which is actually not so weird because that's the way I am with everything. :^:

prepping -- Good for you for getting a gym membership. That's a big step and I do hope you enjoy it. Yoga is a gentle way to get into the exercise. I do think you should break up your challenges. The boost from achieving one will help you with the others. I have been doing these challenges literally for years and I do know the tricks. Of course, those are only tricks that have worked with me, but still... You can do it! Hang in there. :sunny:

Sara -- Heh there! You are really doing well. Wow! Is it six days already?!?! :flow1:

Apple, where are you?!?! :dunno: :?:

Day 6 Completed!!
It was harder to stick to my points today, went to the mall for the first time in forever with my 2 friends and when we went to the food court they both got fries with gravy and all that good stuff. I was soo tempted but then I got a grilled chicken wrap from extreme pita instead. Normally all it would take is someone say come on cheat today and I would, but not this time :)

04-03-2009, 01:16 AM
day 2 of 3 miles walk complete
total: 6 miles for this month :)

Unwanted, that was a great post about your routine! That stick-to-it-ive-ness is absolutely vital and I am seriously working on it!!! Well... working on it as of this being the 2nd day. lol I'm going to seriously take your method to heart and do my best not to pee in my pants. :D

Red, That's a very good point about breaking up my challenges. My only thing though is that I really don't have that much time left until my goal date so I want to really go full throttle. BUT, I'll give myself a little slack and put in a few pauses for the alcohol just because there are certainly times that I won't be able to avoid some social drinks.

Fantastic news! I actually made it to DAY 2!:D:D:D lol
I did my yoga last night and gave the dog an hour long walk/run. I felt absolutely wonderful and that feeling has carried over into today! :D So the plan is to do some cardio tonight, Yoga & Spinning tomorrow, and Zumba on Sunday. woo hoo!

The challenge as it stands: DAY 2
- Alcohol in moderation (max 1 glass on weekdays, 3 on weekends): 3 of 3 pauses left
- NO junk food: 2 of 2 pauses left
- 30 min of activity/day: 3 of 3 pauses left

04-03-2009, 04:04 PM

i think another thing that very well worked for me was that i set my gym time every day at the same time. For me if i had a whole day to chose time for the day my mind and body will be confused. But since 4pm is a gym time i noticed my body and mind antisapates this time now and i cant wait for the gym now. Just try what works for you. Maybe my method will be good for you as well. You are doing soooo well! :carrot:

04-03-2009, 04:42 PM
Thanks for the advice! and for saying that I'm doing well... that meant more to me than you know! Unfortunately the same time every day doesn't work in my schedule. But I'm going to book it in my schedule in advance so that I can anticipate it each day.

DAY 7 COMPLETE :carrot::D:carrot::D

-Exercise daily

-NO desserts

-NO bad fast food

*tomorrow I will be taking a pause's my sister's wedding and I'm pretty sure I will not have time to exercise and I will try some wedding cake :eating2: Dang it!! I was on a roll!!!!*

day 3 of 3 miles walk complete
total: 9 miles for this month

well today was my weights day so it was hard to find time to stay longer on a tradmill. I did 30 mins eliptical which gave me 2.2 miles and then after weights i did 20 mins on tradmill which gave me 1.5 miles... so 2.2+1.5 is roughly 3 miles :)

04-04-2009, 01:31 AM
WOW good for you unwanted37lbs!!! I only manage 30 minutes exercise a day. I hope to work up to more as I go :D

Day 15 completed, run! No pauses left
No Dessert type food, still on the starting blocks, 2 pauses allowed
"Good Choices", on the starting blocks, 2 pauses allowed
We took off for a ski trip the other day, and I was pretty busy yesterday too. I think I figured the running right. I had to take a pause on the ski day. I wish I could say that skiing was good exercise, but I was in charge of my little one, and he wasn't interested in skiing all that much. It's probably pretty exhausting for a little one, even a short trip up and down for those little legs....
I'm sucking on the eating challenges. I hope to regain control soon...
The good news is I was a pound down for my April weigh in, so I can't say March was a total wash. But that pound is going to be wishy washy and keep popping in if I don't string a few good days together. I plan a nice long run tomorrow, maybe a 4 miler.
It's fun to see so many people here taking up the challenge. I have to say, even though I haven't lost much weight yet, the challenge concept is really working for me. I have challenged myself pretty much since Jan to start running regularly, and I am totally into the habit now. I really look forward to my run almost everyday. It's a great stress reducer. I hope everyone else will develop some great habits! Or quit some bad ones!

04-04-2009, 12:35 PM
WOW good for you unwanted37lbs!!! I only manage 30 minutes exercise a day. I hope to work up to more as I go :D

ty! do you excersise 30 min because of lack of time or you think its your body limit? 30 min is awsomw though!!! its more than nothing and you burn colories every day with 30 mins. Plus you getting more muscels and better stamina. You go girl!

04-04-2009, 12:51 PM
Saramommy, Have fun at your sister's wedding!!!

Apple, wtg on the consistent running! Day 15 is impressive... don't they say that you have to do something consistently for 2 weeks before it becomes a habit? You just solidified a habit! :D

I've successfully made it through 2 complete days and am half way through my 3rd. I've already done my exercise for the day and I'm SUPER proud because I got up early for Yoga, and then did a Spinning class. The spinning was BRUTAL! but, I made it through the hour! :D:D:D Was pouring sweat and basically modified every single move that we were supposed to do. As for tonight there is a surprise birthday party for a friend so I'm going to try to adhere as close as possible to 3 drinks but I may end up taking a pause day depending on the energy of the party.

The challenge as it stands: DAY 3
- Alcohol in moderation (max 1 glass on weekdays, 3 on weekends): 3 of 3 pauses left
- NO junk food: 2 of 2 pauses left
- 30 min of activity/day: 3 of 3 pauses left

04-04-2009, 09:19 PM
day 3 of 3 miles walk completed.
I walked on a tredmill: 3 mins of walk (3.7mph) + 1 min run (5mph). Total: 44 1/2 mins

04-04-2009, 09:28 PM
Hey chicks!! I didnt get a chance to post yesterday, I was very busy. I got 40 mins in exercise today!! On the treadmill, I would do a couple mins fast walk then a couple mins running, and boy did I work up a sweat! I love this challenge, I feel so good when I exercise and some nights I'm thinking to myself "maybe I'll just go to bed" but then I remember that I wanna finish my challenge and I go exercise. It helps me a lot.

Unwanted - Thanks for the encouragement!! You're doing awesome!!

Sara- It sucks when your on a diet and something like a wedding comes up,sooo tempting!! Not just with food but alcohol!! Hope you had a great time at the wedding.
I too usually only get 30mins of exercise a day. Better than nothing! :)

Apple- You're doing great, I'd never be able to run 4 miles!! I really like the challenge concept as well, I find it a great motivator.

Prepping- Woohoo! You're doing awseome on your exercise. Hope you have fun at the party!!

Days 7 & 8 Completed!!! :carrot:

Everyone else, good luck with your challenges, hope your all doing good!!!

Thye said its THE best way to excercise - is to push yourself to the limit and then slow down, push, slow down (HIIT)... YEY for 40 mins! isnt it great!

04-04-2009, 10:00 PM
I'm in a bad slump here. Really bad, not caring about doing anything really and I haven't been to the gym in days, maybe weeks. My body is going to pot and I can't bring myself to exercise. Also, I've been pigging on junk food, something I rarely did.
The smoking challenge has fallen and I never got around to going to buy an apple yesterday so that needs a pause as well.
So, I still only have a week behind me.

Day 7 on Apple Challenge completed 1 pause taken

04-04-2009, 10:13 PM
Red- Keep your chin up girl!!!! You can get through this, I know it's hard once you've fallen in a slump, been there. Think positive, everyone has their bad days, even weeks. Just know that we're all here for you if you need us, next time you feel like eating junk or feel down come on here it'll occupy your hands and take your mind off eating, thats what works for me.

04-04-2009, 10:18 PM
Thanks, Caleigh. Things in my life are just getting to me so badly and every time recently I got all fired up and was exercising, I started looking really really bad and that totally devastated me. I haven't been able to get over that. It was like I was being punished for doing good things and I don't really know the cause but I was so awful looking I didn't want to go outside. I didn't feel that tired either so. Anyhow, it's hard getting any kind of boost when things don't seem to be changing for the better. I need a real boost of something food in my life. But, heh, thanks a lot for the sweet encouragement.

red, i hope you're feeling better too!

Jess, welcome!

I had a great time on Saturday but I do have to admit that I have to take a pause on my alcohol and junk food challenge. Surprisingly enough, the exercise one was successful for the first time! :p Sunday was perfect!

The challenge as it stands: DAY 4
- Alcohol in moderation (max 1 glass on weekdays, 3 on weekends): 2 of 3 pauses left
- NO junk food: 2 of 3 pauses left
- 30 min of activity/day: 3 of 3 pauses left

*Note: had to increase junk food to 3 pauses because I can't imagine that I'll be able to avoid it only once in the next 3 weeks. Not with easter coming and everything. :)

Mini 4 day challenge: 1200 cals per day.
When I finish the run challenge I'm going to set up an exercise schedule that won't require me to run everyday, but will start my training for either a half-marathon or a triathlon in August. I'm not sure I can get the swim part down, so I'm postponing my decision to enter...
Apple! SUPER challenge? Sounds great!

04-06-2009, 04:06 PM
So, I'm back from the weekend. I didn't do so good, but that's okay. Once in awhile you have to let yourself mess up ;)

Hi, all. I'm feeling better. Trying to just slow down and take things at my pace. Had a very good day yesterday, only eating natural food (except for a couple things) and got to the gym for the first time in ages.
I'm just hoping I can keep this feeling going.

Apple- Day 18!! You're doing awesome!!

Day 11 is completed on the Apple Challenge

Sorry, people, I don't feel much like writing, but I am reading and supporting your efforts.
My old cat is dying, slowly failing and it's hard to see. His sister went last year. Every night when I return home, every morning when I wake up, I wonder if he'll still be alive and that I wouldn't have been there for him. On the other hand, to watch him dying an entire day like I watched his sister is heart-breaking too. I hope he goes easily. He is very old, which makes it harder. He has hung on nearly a year longer but I see him going the same way, by kidney failure and that is not nice to see. I don't think I could bring myself to have him put to sleep though and it's very hard to find a vet here that will do it. Any way, it'll be hard to see him go. He has slept under my covers with me every night.

04-08-2009, 11:25 AM
We've got a good run of days going in here! :D wtg everyone!
I went spinning for an hour followed by yoga last night. my muscles are jello and it's wonderful. :)

red, oh I'm so so very sorry to hear your troubles. It's absolutely heartbreaking to go through that with your fuzzy little family member. But he did lead a good long life so you can take comfort in the fact that he was happy, loved, and well taken care of for his time.

I've gone through this time and time again (only one animal in my life had ever made it to pass away from old age). My latest happening last October.

 my thoughts go out to you.

Day 20 completed, run! No pauses left
Yesterday I had to do a wii run to get the run in. I don't think I should do that anymore, it seems to bother my knee. My calorie mini challenge is out the window, but I'll be really good today and tomorrow. After that we are into Easter week-end and I'll do my best not to pig out. After Easter I really have to crack down. I keep saying that. I have to act on it or I'm going to be really upset with myself. The weather here is getting warm and I can't hide under layers of clothes anymore. And I hate my fat arms SOO much...
Everyone is doing so well!! Caleighsmom, I am way jealous. I am hoping to report a great weigh-in next week. At least something!! Great job!!
Red, I remember your sad cat news from last year. It sounds nice that he sleeps with you, you must both be comforted by that. Its just about a month since I had to euthanize my old dog. It's sad, but knowing they had a long and happy life makes it a lot easier. Great job with the apples, by the way.
Hello to prep, sara, Jess and 37! Keep it up girls!

day 6 of 3 miles walk complete :)

04-08-2009, 05:19 PM
Thursday morning here, early. I left an apple at work so I'll have to wait till I get in there to eat it. I'm finding it's better to get it eaten first thing in the morning or at least cut and packed. Though, yesterday, I ate it walking home late. I didn't want to wait until I got home in case my old fella was gone and I couldn't eat it. Is that kind of ridiculous that I think the challenge is that important?
As for my Super Challenge, I am not declaring it, but I am doing well. I'm going to try days (maybe weeks) of trial, which takes the pressure off. When I'm getting good days on end, I'll declare it.

prepping -- Thanks so much for your kind words. They mean a lot, especially when the person has been there before, as you say you have, many times. Thanks. And congratulations on your "6 glorious days!" :bravo:

Apple -- Thank you too. Yeah, you were here then with his sister. Because of her, I know the signs. He is hanging on much longer. He was a very strong cat and he keeps trying to keep doing the things he always did. I hate to have to go to work and leave him. I wish I could just spend all this time together with him. He craves being with me and craves attention, not like his sister, who was a real loner. At least there is another cat who stays with him. The other one is a loner too.
I can't believe you have 20 days down on your challenge. That is awesome! I feel the same way about the layers of clothes. I am dreading having nothing to hide under. In fact, I don't any longer as it's warm here. And not being able to ride because my horse has girth galls is packing on the fat. It's awful. I'm just trying to overcome this all but not letting my emotions cave me in as they usually do, or did.

unwanted -- Good for you! :cp:

And as others have said knowing he had a long happy life makes it a little easier. Good to hear you're doing well with both your apple and super challenge :)

Day 12 (from Thursday) is done on the Apple Challenge. Hurrah!

My old guy is still hanging in there though he can barely walk. One of my other cats keeps him company so I don't feel so bad when I'm away at work. I planned to stay home today in case he looked real bad or had already died, but he's still going so in to work I go.

Caleigh -- Thanks for your warm words. The end is always tough but I've had far worse with my lifelong menagerie of animals -- the sudden deaths, the illnesses, the injuries. Dying of old age is the most natural way and I can't complain. He's just been a presence and a literal and figurative source of warmth for me since he is the most affectionate of my cats and very vocal. In fact, the neighborhood will miss him because they always heard him crying when I came home. He would wait outside and greet me and demand food. Now, though he can barely walk, he comes out into the kitchen and demands his favorite special food, a Japanese food made with crabmeat.
Caleigh, you are on a roll. Use it and enjoy it!

Sara -- There you are! Good work. You're looking good! Thanks, too, for your words.

prepping -- Three cheers for a successful WEEK!! :bravo: :bravo: :bravo:

unwanted -- Very quiet but doing your thing. Good for you. :)

Shachi in earlier years. Still doesn't look any different though in a face shot. Sorry, people, you know how it is.... ;) Shachi means "killer whale" in Japanese...because of his coloring.

Day 13 Completed !!
Stayed within my points, used a few bonus points on a small bag of cheesies and some chocolate, I had the points for it but I feel guilty for eating it when I havent eaten any junk in 16 days :( But tomorrow is another day and I will use my points wiser, better to just get it out of my system now than waiting and binging later.

Exercised 30 mins on treadmill and 30 mins weight training :)

04-09-2009, 11:40 PM
ok this week is my vocation from work, and i thought i would have all the time in the world to exercise...BUT...a friend of mine asked me if she could come for a photoshoot (unplanned and spontanious request) and i agreed thinking i could go to the gym later this evening (gym opens till 10pm)... its 9:30 pm and they JUST left... so i missed it :( BUT before they came i went to the Running Store and got me good pair of running shoes, wicker underwear and wicker socks! oh and pants too (wicker) :) so i am all prepapered but missed the gym :( we were planning the photoshoot for 5pm, then i asked to come at 6 cuz we were running late with errends, and then they came late... so close to 7pm everything started and we were done 1 1/2 later... I MISSED THE GYM :( sniff sniff...

Day 14 Completed :carrot:
I really thought today was going to be a pause day! I'm at my moms and she kept offering me chocolate and junk  But I resisted. I wasnt in the mood to exercise at all but I finally got off my butt and did 30 mins of my Biggest Loser Bootcamp :)

Red- I hope both you and Shachi are doing well.
Sara- You're doing awesome, Keep it up! :)

04-10-2009, 09:30 PM
day 8 of 3 miles complete... i actually did 3 more for the missing day (for last night). So i did 6.2 miles today and 30 mins weight training. Woo Hoo! i am hungry :)

04-11-2009, 11:12 AM
I made it through my 1st easter dinner perfectly good! I treated it like a normal dinner and ignored any not-so-appropriate foods. The only treat i had was the tiniest little bite of a Reese chocolate bunny. And then i gave the rest of it to my fiance *willingly*! :D

Day 9 and still going!
- Alcohol in moderation (max 1 glass on weekdays, 3 on weekends): 2 of 3 pauses left
- NO junk food: 2 of 3 pauses left
- 30 min of activity/day: 3 of 3 pauses left

red, killer whale is a very appropriate description! I love names that you don't normally come across. My siamese is Khao (pronounced "K-O") because i opened up an atlas to Thailand, where siamese originated. Of course i find out years later that it's pronounced "cow". oops!

Caleighsmommy, you're doing great! WTG on resisting temptation and working out!

Unwanted37, wowza fitness woman! you are certainly an inspiration! keep it up :D

04-11-2009, 01:19 PM
Went to a family Easter dinner last night...I did GREAT!! Only ate healthy food, and had no dessert!! :D I even brought my fat free dressing for my salad :carrot:

Exercise everyday: Day 12 completed

No desserts: Day 13 - completed

No bad fast food: Day 13 - completed

Unwanted-you're amazing!!!! 6 miles in one day!?!?! You go girl!!!!!!! :bravo:

Everyone else-:goodluck: this Easter weekend!! May we all stay in our challenge and take no pause days :D

04-11-2009, 06:45 PM
Day 9 of 3 miles complete.... i did my 5K today (3.1 miles) with 39:27 time :) normally when i practice 3 miles it takes me 44 min so i KNOW i did all i could this time. :)
When i ran/walked, i was so tired at times, my brain was telling me to just walk, while my muslels could still go. So i started consentrating on my muscels and then those were telling me to quit running but my brain kept telling me to go... it was very confusing lol

04-12-2009, 09:00 AM
Let's see. Sorry to have not been posting. Just got away from it. But, I HAVE been eating my apples. Hurrah!

I'm finishing up Sunday here...Happy Easter! to all who celebrate it. :easter3: Oh, and belated Passover greetings to those who celebrate Passover. :stardav:
I hope you all didn't indulge in too much Easter candy! That's pretty tempting to all! Eggs are OK though! :easter: This is one holiday that has not caught on in any way here, so I have escaped the you know what! :bunny2:

Day 15 on Apple Challenge completed!!

unwanted -- You're looking good! :cp: Don't let that brain confuse you! Your muscles are doing fine, I'm sure.

Sara -- Wow, Sara, great save on the Easter dinner. No dessert and your own dressing. Now that is awesome. Dressing is such a waste of calories. I mean, who doesn't pour a lot on and that can be 400-500 calories easily! You even got your exercise in despite going to a dinner? Good for you! :bravo:

prepping -- You too! Excellent work on the Easter dinner. :cp: I read that Khao means "mountain." Is that so? Why did you call your cat Khao though, was it the name of the town you opened the atlas to? Thanks for the compliment on Shachi. He has been an absolute dear cat. A really special cat and I have had a great many cats. But Shachi is super intelligent and affection loving. In fact, he and another (Nozomi) are more like dogs I think. My other one now, Momo, is very catlike, i.e. she ignores me mostly.

Caleigh -- Wow, what is all this resistance?! :spin: Amazing stuff going on over there on Easter Sunday. Keep it up people!! Shachi is still hanging on, Caleigh. Thanks for mentioning him.

04-13-2009, 02:44 AM
Today (Easter celebrations again) I was naughty  I ate some chocolate and didn't exercise. I'm halfway through my exercise challenge with no more pauses...YIKES!!! I will be working hard this week to make up for my "food mistakes" this weekend. I hope the rest of you had a more successful weekend than I.

Exercise everyday: Day 12 no pauses left :(

No desserts: Day 13 - 1 pause left

No bad fast food: Day 14 - completed - 2 pauses left

04-13-2009, 07:30 AM
Cleared Day 16 on the Apple Challenge! :flow1:

Sara -- If that's all you did or didn't do on Easter, then you're still good in the game! Don't let your 12 hard days of work (and 13 and 14) go to waste and have to start over (though they really aren't going to waste). It helps to form new habits to continue on. I know. The apple thing is getting easier! Good luck! :goodluck:

04-13-2009, 12:30 PM
Still on Day 9... :s
- Alcohol in moderation (max 1 glass on weekdays, 3 on weekends): 1 of 3 pauses left
- NO junk food: 1 of 3 pauses left
- 30 min of activity/day: 2 of 3 pauses left

So it was a fun weekend that has affected all aspects of this challenge. I now am down by 1 pause for every part. oops! It was good though and I'm ready for the new week!

red, just opened up an atlas and that was the name that popped out as appropriate. I believe a couple different places had Khao in the name.

Have a wonderful day everyone! And good luck on your challenges :)

04-13-2009, 08:24 PM

04-16-2009, 03:02 AM
Hi Red, and everyone else....

I'm skulking in the back door over here, long time since I've visited, LOL

Had lots of weird stuff going on over here, mainly hit a bad bout of mono that just won't go away, and stopped me from exercising, and then fell back into old eating habits, and to make a long story short: Passover is over, I was just diagnosed with Celiac Disease, and I have gained back 16 pounds that I lost...*I'm sure at least 10 of them have "Matzah" written on them*

SO! The current challenges are:
1) Drink at least 8 cups of water, 1 pause
2) Eat breakfast every day,2 pauses
3) Take my B12 every day, 1 pause
4) Take my Vit D every day, 1 pause

Hi Fellow 21 Day Challenge Mates!

I am always up for a challenge and being accountable to something like this is always great for me - thanks for starting this thread.

Starting tomorrow - April 16th - Level 3

1. MUST STICK 100% to what I planned for my daily meal/calorie intake - no little bites/treats/bigger portions, etc.
2. MUST STICK 100% to my daily fitness/gym plan.
3. Mini Goal for Challenge - lose 10 pounds (a lot of this will loss of sodium/water so I want to account for it).

I am a big planner - I plan ahead for everything. But I don't always stick to it, I forget to look, etc - excuses, excuses!!

If I stick to what I plan, maybe I will ensure that it is a little more realistic and or not enough :)

Happy Challenge - starting - well NOW :)

04-16-2009, 01:10 PM
Thanks saramommy and redballoon:)

Day 2 of all three challenges

The hubby and I had our last date anniversary yesterday before it gets replaced with a wedding anniversary. So in our celebrations we had a few glasses of wine. The good news is that we were still active and didn't eat any junk food! But it means I still had to take a pause day. Hmmmm... I'm going to have to go the next 10 days being realllly good with my alcohol.

Angeline, April_showers, Miriam, Brown eyed Staccie, WELCOME!!!:D :D

Unwanted, you're doing great as always! Keep it up :D

Red, you've almost reached 21 days! congrats! then what happens???

Saramommy, I hear you on the Easter treats. Luckily I've been able to get rid of pretty much everything in my house. Wishing willpower your way!

Angeline, You're off to a good start :)

Miriam, sorry to hear about the not-too-good news. But we're here for you!

Staccie, ah yes, planning. I'm a compulsive list maker... do you think i could possibly remember bringing them with me though? nope!

04-17-2009, 01:30 AM

- NO junk food: 1 of 3 pauses left
- 30 min of activity/day: 2 of 3 pauses left

April, keep it up! :D

Miriam, the water would have been a tough one for me about a year ago but now my throat is parched if I don't drink at least 8-10 cups a day. My wedding is at a golf club and we'll have about 110 people. It's fairly casual but in beautiful surroundings. I just confirmed our flowers today and was thrilled to be able to get them for just under $300 vs. the $825 that we were quoted by a couple other places. :D:D:D (just hung up phone so it happened to be on my mind while typing)

04-18-2009, 02:45 AM
day 14 of 5K complete :)

miriam - thank you! and I love your flowers :)

April Showers - no sweets would be a tough one! good luck!

April -- You're looking good! Congrats on a successful Day 2! :bravo:

unwanted -- Wow, you're two weeks down! Keep it going! :dancer:

prepping -- Is it already 12 days?!?! My, how time flies when you're....when you're doing all the work! :lol3: prep, I don't know what I'll do next. I'm doing pretty well all over, well, kind of, but I'd like to hit some new areas, maybe not directly weight or food related, more exercise or even cleaning again. And I may do another round of either apples, or something along those lines, easy to do, yet requiring planning.

miriam -- Welcome back!! :welcome2: Glad to have you with us again. Too bad about the Celiac. I guess that means you'll be cutting out the gluten, right?

angeline -- How are you doing? I see you had two days done already! Way to go!! :bravo: Those are tough challenges! Power to you. :strong:

Staccie -- Welcome! :welcome: How's it going? Don't be shy!

unwanted -- Hi there. Thanks for the congrats! :spin: You've put the pressure on with your questions! Hmm, I hadn't thought about it, but I guess I'll have to. I really like the apple challenge but I know that I still won't do it without a challenge. You think I would. I guess I could, but then I may as well do it. I don't know. Let me think about it and mull below.
How is your walking going? It is walking, right, the 5K? Heck, it would have to be. I can't imagine anyone jogging or running 5 K every single day! You've really shown resolve. What's your story?

Sara -- Oh, too bad on your exercise challenge. But, heck, nothing is really lost. That's the spirit, getting right back into it. Good for you!! And look at you on the other two, nearly done and they must have been tough ones. Excellent going! :bravo:

Mulling time here....
I have to admit that I've been smoking recently and, in a way, it's worse than last year, though not in quantity, but in quality or lack thereof. Last year I was out drinking a lot, well, not drinking so much, but out a lot and those times I was smoking a LOT. But, I never smoked, except on rare occasions, when I wasn't drinking. Now, however, that has changed. I'm not going out drinking much but I am smoking here and there, every day. I don't like it. I don't need it, but I do it, and I don't even know why. I guess, like with so much, it's just a skewed, warped way I have of "dealing with" the questions and dilemmas, the lacks in my life.
But, I tell you, last night took the cake. I had a dream in which I was looking for a place to smoke. Now that ticks me off! I quit smoking about 15 years ago and never touched one and the reason I could stop back then is because, as a chain smoker, I was angry that the cigarettes were controlling me. When they start infiltrating my dreams, it's time we parted ways.
And so, I am going to bite the bullet and declare no smoking, NO pauses, this is it. I have a lot of cigs and I'm going to throw them away or give them away. I am angry!
So, that's one of the challenges and I'm starting it right now, Sunday, April 19.

NO Smoking Challenge -- Day 0 completed, NO pauses allowed

:dancer: :dancer: :dancer:

unwanted -- Hi there. Thanks for the congrats! :spin: You've put the pressure on with your questions! Hmm, I hadn't thought about it, but I guess I'll have to. lol my story .... i just enjoy walking :) and running/jogging. I just love the feeling of my legs' muscels. I dont know its like a drug to me lol... I decided i want to learn to run. My goal is to jog 5K. So i found this web site on line that teaches you to do it. It takes 9 weeks.
Week 1 was when i walked 1 1/2 mins then ran for 1 min entire distance.
I am on week 2 - its when walk for 2 mins and jog for 1 1/2 mins.
On monday it will be different type of mins for me. More jogging then walking. I hope i can do it :)
I am very motivated :)
I normally walk 3.7 mph and jog 5mph

04-19-2009, 01:11 AM
day 15 of 5K is done :) - time when fast since all i did was thinking about my daughter's 1st bday party :) When your head is empty time drags but when there is something to think about and plan then times goes fast :)

04-19-2009, 01:36 PM
Day 4 complete,
Breakfast, B12, Vit D

Congrats on finishing the challenge! Love the picture you added, LOL
Good luck on the smoking challenge! That sounds tough - but I can relate to doing it with no pauses - I myself need just a leeeeetle bit of whatever to get sucked into it again fully,
And CELIAC SUCKS! LOL Pardon the language, I guess for weight loss it might be a little bit of a boost, but passing a specialty bakery after work and realizing... never again... is a bit much for me. I like to make the choice to have something or not have something, and I know this sounds like some spoiled brat comment - but I don't like being told "Never again."

Prepping (do you have an easier name? LOL) - how are you doing towards your april 25th goal? I should really reevaluate and make mini-goals again. Been off the wagon for awhile. Only good thing about that is the "beginning-of-weight-loss-whoosh-from-water-weight". :) Wedding plans sound lovely! What's your flower of choice? What are you doing for your bouquet?

Sara - only 1 day left for the fast food challenge! woohoo! What type of exercise are you doing?

April - how goes it? Hope you're doing well!

Unwanted - can I just call you 37?? unwanted sounds so unfriendly! WTG on your jogging! I did a little bit of running last night - I went out for a walk last night and came to a spooky street and then ran the whole street! LOL

04-19-2009, 01:40 PM
miriam - I am so jelous when people can run more than 90 sec!!! i still cant manage that with ease yet. I dont mind UNWANTED but 37 sounds good too :) My name is Kat by the way lol... eather that or Kat is great hahah You are so sweet by the way!

04-19-2009, 02:25 PM
Listen 37 - Kat is Great - whatever!! LOL - -
I must make a clarification here - I did NOT run more than 90 seconds - I was scared! I FLEW!!! LOL

And - - it was all downhill. Don't give me too much credit - I have 37 of my own unwanted lbs going on here, hahaha

04-19-2009, 08:56 PM
I did it!!! I have successful liftoff on my no smoking challenge!! It was really, really hard. When I declared that challenge yesterday I didn't think I'd be subjected to the ultimate temptation of going out for drinks. That was what I was first doing, only smoking when drinking. The fact that I had started to smoke at other times was what prompted the challenge, but I thought I'd have a few days at least before I allowed myself to drink and be subjected to the siren call of the cigarette. Well, I was at the racetrack and able to meet up with a friend whom I rarely see. He smokes so it makes it harder and I almost caved in. But I kept thinking of having declared it here and having to come in and say I'd failed. And I thought that heck, this is why I made the challenge, because I'm angry at the feeling of not being able to resist. So, it got my fur up so to speak and I resisted, God darn it!!
I woke up this morning feeling mighty proud of my accomplishment. It's a rare day when I can smile before I've pulled myself out of bed ( the floor) but I did this morning. Whoooo HAAA!!!!

Day 1 completed on No Smoking Challenge -- no pauses allowed

I also recharged my DS Lite so I could use that to study with. I figure if I have something to do it'll help me in those times when I just want to smoke. The DS thing I can take with me anywhere. Besides, it's good for my Japanese. I study kanji on it, the Chinese characters.
As for drinking, I figure that if I'm out drinking and I feel my resolve not to smoke caving then it means I've had too much to drink and should call it a night. There usually comes a point when I can't resist any longer because I'm becoming too inebriated, in other words, dumber and dumber! :lol3:

unwanted -- It's good to hear you're so motivated. It also sounds like you were born to be a runner, so good for you for being resolved to do what it takes. It's our latent potential, latent talents that we have to bring forth. Nobody gets anywhere just expecting things will happen on their own (though a lot of people think that's the way it is). I get people asking me all the time how I get so good at foreign languages and, while I do acknowledge that I seem to have somewhat of a gift for them, I also put a LOT of hard work into studying and, perhaps more importantly, applying what I learn. The people for the most part don't seem to want to hear that part. They make excuses and when I come back and say how I have the same problems and try to help them overcome them by explaining how I do it, that's when they stop asking entirely.
You, on the other hand, seem to understand that hard work is going to be needed to get you where you want to go. Good for you and power to you!! :strong:

miriam -- Funny, you had the same response to unwanted's name. I hated calling her unwanted at first but am used to it now. After all, we know the rest. I hate to use any real names or something not immediately understandable to newcomers to the thread because it makes it more inaccessible. Some of these threads are so sewn up that you feel like you're intruding if you try to join. I try to keep this thread open to anyone who wants to pop in and join, even though the vast majority of people I know are going to be shooting stars, coming in all revved up and then disappearing. It's sad but after literal years of these challenge threads, I can see the patterns.
You know, about the celiac, I wouldn't think of things as NEVER. I mean, heck, you still can eat the gluten, just suffer the consequences. If you think of it that way and even allow yourself a bit every once in a while, then it won't be so painful. No?
Thanks for the encouragement on the no smoking. This thread and your support really, really help! Oh, and I'm glad you liked the picture. I keep a bunch of such animated graphics in and then use them for illustrations. I was doing it a lot there for a while when you were "on sabbatical," but got out of the habit. The fact that I'm doing it again shows I'm in a far more positive state of mind. :)

Ok, I may be starting up some more challenges. I don't know. Maybe I should just stick to the no-smoking for now...will chew (no pun intended) this over....

04-20-2009, 12:05 AM
Hiya Red,
Just a wee note about the stopping smoking challenge. Great challenge by the way. But don't throw all the cigs out just yet. I stopped smoking 20 years ago and I still have two from the last packet I ever bought. Sounds strange, but sometimes when you think you need a smoke - the thought that you don't actually have any just makes you want to up and go buy some. If you don't put that thought into your head you may just feel better about it. You know the way our stupid brain works - I have two but I don't want them. I have none - ohell, how I want one! You may get some exercise tearing off to the nearest late night store or servo, but it doesn't do you much good really! And I find you smoke more faster if you have to go out and get one - poor little deprived (depraved) brain. Well that's how mine worked anyway. What you really need to be able to do is to get them to make you sick. That way, you never want another one. Believe me - that's what happened to me.

Good luck with this one. I know you can do it because I know you have done it before. :bravo:

04-20-2009, 07:57 AM
Hey there, Shad. Look at you popping in as if....dare I had been lurking all along! Advice taken on the cigs but I'll be OK. You know it's different over here (and I'm not in the boondocks, but smack right in the middle of Tokyo). I can want a cig and have it in less than 50 steps at any time of night or day. So, I'm not worried about the mad rush to find a store like I'd have to do if I were in the States, or, God forbid, somewhere like Oz!! :lol3:
But thanks for the concern. My mind may work a bit differently from yours. Mine does far, far better with no mention, no reminder, no nothing to get me thinking. I'm very basic, a black and white out of sight out of mind type.
Good for you for staying off the fags for 20 years. I was nearly there myself and, to tell you the truth, I wasn't really allowing myself to think of myself as a smoker yet. It was on and off, but that dream the other night did it. It made me mad!
Second success today. Sitting over coffee at an outside cafe with a smoker, with whom I had just been smoking a couple weeks ago.
Nope, I gave away a bagful of partially smoked cigarette packages today. Sayonara!!
Thanks though, Shad, for popping in here to help. You're like a guardian angel or something.

Okay I was very sick and needed my sleep, sprite and meds, but now I'm back!

Day 1 of all three challenges

*1 pause for each challenge allowed*

Challenge One: Stay under 1500 calories

Challenge Two: No Soda

Challenge Three: Be active every day for at least 30 mins (walking, running, ellipticalling, or weight lifting)

04-20-2009, 04:06 PM
Day 14
- Alcohol in moderation (max 1 glass on weekdays, 3 on weekends): no pauses left
- NO junk food: 1 of 3 pauses left
- 30 min of activity/day: 1 of 3 pauses left

I was doing taxes this weekend so was out of town all of sunday and didn't get my activity in. But otherwise everything is going surprisingly well!

<><><> 7 more days until 21!!!!! <><><>
Guess I've gotta really buckle down to get through them!

april, how goes the challenge?

red, I think that a no smoking challenge is brilliant. It's one of the best things you could do for you and your body. doesn't hurt the wallet either I bet.... or maybe that's not an issue in Tokyo? And I am totally impressed with your ability with languages. It does take a lot of work and study and I know for a fact that I just don't have that kind of patience and drive to learn. Although, I would definately do it and try to master if I lived in another country.

37, Running seems to be almost a meditation practice for those that are good at it. You just reach that inner peace in your mind where time flies by. I have never been able to achieve that! The only thing I can think about when I run is how much I look forward to it being over. :p

saramommy, aw that sucks with the exercise challenge! I'm not too far off restarting for that reason too! :o bugger.

Miriam, how am i doing for my april 25 goal? well.... my body doesn't seem to realize that it has a timeline it's supposed to be following. I may have to re-evaluate my whole goal set up because it seems that for the last 8 weeks I'm consistently losing weight but only 1 lb a week! I probably could try for more than that but that's normally when I start getting in trouble and putting it back on. Maybe I'll just aim for a happy 170 by june 27th. :) I'm exercising so it'll be less jiggly at least. The first stage where the water weight *whooshes* off is such a feel good! As for wedding, I don't know what my flowers will be until Wednesday but we're leaning towards roses, orchids, and gerbera daisies. All deep reds and whites.
btw, i've been called PB & prep mostly. :)

Angeline, glad you're feeling better and back at it! :D:D

Flyby here - day 5 complete

04-20-2009, 04:50 PM
mirriam - thank you for your post! you crack me up!! haha i always enjoy reading your posts!

redballon - thank you somuch! I really REALLY really needed to hear it!

preppping - you are right! its very mind-cleaning thing! I too sometimes think that its time to stop but then on the other hand i encurage myself by thinking "if you stop you wont be able to feel your legs like you are feeling now for loooong 24 hours" and that means to me i need to wait a whole day just to feel this push-to-the-limit feelign! It noramly works lol.. i LOVE feeling the burning pain of exercise! again, its like drug to me! and i notice the more stress i have at home (2 kids, work) the more intance i exercise :)

04-20-2009, 04:53 PM

lol i am so excited for those 20 days to be over... seemed like the longest 20 days i have ever had!

04-20-2009, 06:43 PM
Guardian angel???? Who me, not likely. More like the Devils advocate.
What makes you think that I can't get the filthy weed here at any time of the day or night? Um a 500m jog at midnight will get me to the nearest 24hour servo. On the way I could probably pick up a few other weeds and powders.
But it's whatever rattles your cage and so I wish you the best for a successful challenge - and yes I do lurk. Life is not such at the moment that I can take up anything for 21 days straight. Sometimes I think I live on airline meals. Yukk. :yikes:

Howdy. I am back, sort of. I DID finish the exercise challenge, yay.:encore:
Then I had family visting and then we went away for a bit, the kids had spring break. So now I'm getting back into routine, at least a little bit. My SIL is still here but I think she is leaving soon. Not sure. I'm not good at controlling what I eat when people are around. But I need to buckle down cause I'm running out of time. I want to try a fruit flush or something to get a jump start. But like I said, hard to do with a house guest. Hopefully I will figure out an exercise schedule soon and that will be my next challenge, to stick to the schedule.
Good to see everyone here, the thread is busy and everyone seems to be doing great.

Day 3 +4 Complete!!

Level 1:

Challenge One: Be active in some way for 30 minutes.

Challenge Two: Drink 100z of water.

Level 3:

Challenge Three: No "sweets" cookies, candy, cake, ice cream

Still holding all of my pauses. Barely!

Kat, my belly just loves the sweets. I could do nothing else, and just cut out the sweets and I'd still knock off a few lbs a week. It's scary. That's why I had to choose the challenge with 3 pauses, lol.

Hi Miriam! I'm surviving, preppingbride. Yesterday was rough, it was Easter for us so the food was in abundance! I kept it moving by chasing after a two and three year old. Boy, that is better than my elliptical! You guys all rock, thanks for the support!

Excellent job everyone! Keep plugging!

04-21-2009, 03:02 AM

Day 2 of all three challenges

*1 pause for each challenge allowed*

Challenge One: Stay under 1500 calories

Challenge Two: No Soda

Challenge Three: Be active every day for at least 30 mins (walking, running, ellipticalling, or weight lifting)

04-21-2009, 08:18 PM
Well, I'm starting Day 4 here. Yesterday was a real challenge, major. And, as I had thought, I confirmed that anger and irritation, being pissed off, are the things that make me smoke, whereas the eating is usually not those things, but more the boredom, anxiousness, nervousness.
I tried to give blood yesterday and after keeping me waiting a whole hour, they rejected me because the skin was broken on my arms where I had scratched them. I was so pissed. The only reason I decided to give was because I had a bit of free time and they were out on the streets calling for blood, because they said it was short. Well, if having a bit of broken skin and the, oh my God, "chances of some bacteria in your body" means turning down some damn good blood (and RH negative nonetheless, though that doesn't matter because no one needs it) then I'll be damned if I'm ever going to bother trying again.
But after that, I was really ticked and I really wanted to smoke. This is the kind of feeling that started me smoking last year with problems at work. I know. I know, it's only hurting myself, but it goes beyond that. The whole crackdown on smoking has made me want to rebel. When I'm told, I can't have it, I rail at my choice being taken away. Still, this isn't the real problem, because I can still smoke. Anyhow, I got over it, despite finding cigarettes at home and really wanting them. Anyhow, I made it through Day 3. :) I am still ticked at yesterday, but I tried to keep telling myself that it was good I kept my blood and didn't have to be tired after donating. They rejected another guy while I was there because they said he had too much fat in his blood. He was a bit overweight, but nothing bad. I mean, my God, what is the point? If they can pick and choose to such an extent, then the need must really be minimal. Ok, enough of the rant. Now, I know that the pleas are nothing to be pitied. So there! Excuse my rant.

angeline -- Good to see you again. Sorry to hear you were ill, but good for you for getting back on the wagon. And congratulations on a successful liftoff! :cp:

prepping -- Just a week left, eh? You can do it, I know. You're right, here in Tokyo, cigarettes are probably currently the cheapest in the world. 300 yen a pack generally, which is around $3 U.S. now. There's little government tax because the government IS the cigarette industry, well, largely. Anyhow, it's hard to think of the benefits of not smoking when you do it like me, off and on, mostly when drinking. The next day you can't be sure if yo're hungover or feeling awful because of the smoking. Actually, I think it was more often than not the latter, because I wasn't drinking all that much. But, the smoking starting when I wasn't drinking was disgusting really. The smell and the feeling that I was doing something that had to be apologized for was just so not me. So, even though it's hard, I'm still off.

unwanted -- Welcome to your new signature!

Shad -- "a 500-meter jog at midnight?!?!?" You've got to be kidding. Run the length of FIVE FOOTBALL FIELDS ?!?!??! Now, that would have me saving the cigarettes "just in case." But we obviously work very differently. I thought I had cleaned out my room of the things, but yesterday, when I was really ticked, I saw a few lying around and really, really had to dig down deep in my resolve to not reach for them. Sitting on my doorstep, the door open, blowing the smoke outside, music playing inside, warm air out, that has been super relaxing for me. But, I didn't do it. I should have just thrown the things out but I still have them because I hate throwing them out. I'll give 'em to someone still smoking. Too bad about your busy life right now. It'd be good to have you on a challenge.

Apple -- Finally, you're back. You always sound very busy. Good to see you and best of luck!

April -- Excellent work! :bravo:

Sara -- Thanks. I'm still on it and eating apples as well. Oh, and heh, you've done your fast food challenge. Way to go!!! :bravo: :bravo: :bravo: :cp: :cp: :encore: :cp: :cp:

No Beer, Day 1, 2 pauses allowed
Exercise schedule, starts tomorrow! 2 pauses left
OK, my SIL is gone at least for a while. So I'm going to get back into the dieting seriously. I need 3 pounds by the end of the month. Totally within reach. I went to the gym today for the first time in a while. I still think it's a whimpy gym, but it's better than nothing, and I'm comfortable going there.
Unwanted, remind me what your 5K challenge is! It sounds like a good one and you are doing great!
Red, way to go getting started. It will get easier and easier!
Saramommy!21 days!!:cheer3::cheer2::cp::hat::cheer3::cheer2: So how does it feel?!!

04-22-2009, 09:03 AM
Well, I'm turning in. I can't believe it's ONLY 4 days, but it is and well...that's better than 3 days, or 2 days, or 1 day or NONE! is hard. But not as hard as yesterday was.... :^:

Apple -- Does that mean you've completed Day 1 on the no beer? I hope my challenge gets easier. It's hard and I'm not even drinking.

redballoon; thanks! I'm very happy to be healthy again. And Go Youn for getting over a cig craving- most of my family is always trying to quit- it's definitely a challenge

apple: Thank You! I wanted challenges I knew would be tough, but that I could accomplish:) I want to lose 3 by the end of this month too! Good Luck!

Canadian: I get bored running too, but I have been thinking about the C25K.... maybe next month... for now I'm still on the elliptical:)

as for me...
I've been much happier and feeling much healthier since I've been back on it. I went from 174 to 177 while sick (thank you pepperoni pizza) and this morning I was at 175.4- only 1.4 to get back and it's only been three days (which means it was mostly salt, but I'm still pleased as punch:))

Day 3 of all three challenges

Challenge One: Stay under 1500 calories

Challenge Two: No Soda

Challenge Three: Be active every day for at least 30 mins (walking, running, ellipticalling, or weight lifting)

Hiya everyone!

I'm pleased to say that Day 7 is complete, and ONLY because I'm accountable here. I almost forgot the Vit D but knowing I have the 21 days and to post... really kept me at it so far!

I have an appointment with the dietitian to see if she can come up with a constructive meal plan that accommodates ummm... borderline diabetes, strict vegetarianism and celiac. Looks like I might be living off of green smoothies only Red, LOL

That's all for now, folks!

04-23-2009, 01:19 AM

Exercise schedule, Still waiting for lift off
My son didn't go to school today due to an earache, so I couldn't go to the gym. It may be a while before I get lift off on the exercise schedule, but I am trying to get SOME kind of exercise in. Hoping to jump on the bike in a bit.
Yes Red, my beer challenge had a one day stealth :D.
Unwanted, you make my 10 minute and 15 minute run challenges look whimpy. I'm tempted to try yours, but I think it would be bad for my knee to run that far everyday.
Angeline, I find day 4 the hardest. Now there's no turning back and it gets easier!! You too Red!
Sara, gad to see you're keeping a tally on your no desserts, even past 21 days. Lets see how long your streak can last!!
Gotta run! Stick with it everyone!!

04-23-2009, 08:34 PM
Day 5 completed on No Smoking Challenge

That was good but I am utterly disgusted with my eating. Everything good has fallen by the wayside again because I am so busy and tired and stressed because of all the work piling up. I binged on sugar yesterday and I don't even know why, I mean, for what good reason I would do that. There is no good reason, just the lame excuses mentioned above and one emotional blow at the riding club yesterday when the owner said I couldn't ride the horse I was so looking forward to. I take it as a blow against my skills and because he absolutely despises fat people like me.

I am really disgusted with myself and this means there is a very real danger of my turning that disgust against myself yet further and smoking. Damn.

No time to write to others. Gotta run.

day 2 acclomplished on the treadmill for 5km

04-24-2009, 12:35 PM

day 19.... i only did half of what i should... i did 1.5 miles but then i did the rest on eliptical... i think i am banded from treadmill for a while because my of my knee... l LOVE walking/running but something under me knee (5 inches under knee and to the side) didnt like about it. So am waiting for it to get better. Last night i just walking (3.7 mph) and i was soooo tempted to run... i was so close to do it. But i knew it wouldnt worth it if i had knee enjury. I will just wait a day or 2 and take it slow. Maybe walk now and run every other day :)

04-24-2009, 07:25 PM
I made it through Day 6 on the smoking challenge.
Thanks, Apple, for your support!
Will try to write later. I'm in very bad shape otherwise, but am trying to, as Apple said, stretch this bit of good and have it cover other things. I have an apple cut and packed now and that's a start. :^:

Day 1 Completed :)
30 min walk

Tomorrow will be saturday and i will be going to the gym!

04-25-2009, 07:22 AM
Well, it's winding down on Saturday here and my Day 7 on the No Smoking Challenge. I really want to smoke and I'm at home. I had quite gotten into the habit of relaxing with a cig at home. I have only had the one temptation when out drinking but I have a feeling that I will NOT be able to resist when and if I'm out with my regular friends, with whom I'd been smoking a lot. Sigh.
And, I'm disgusted with my weight because, surprise, surprise, I realize that, though, my weight did not drastically change, I have lost a ton of muscle and replaced it with you know what.
I almost went to the gym tonight, but turned around and came back. I was so disgusted with everything that I didn't even feel good enough to train. That is bad.
I guess I'm going to have to start small and try to be happy about small accomplishments.
I don't consider the no-smoking good at all for some reason. Somehow it's become all about fat.
The usual health things don't register. I guess I will have to think that I will look younger if I don't smoke....

I guess I can call it...

Day 7 on No Smoking completed

And I'm going to start some more challenges tomorrow....

unwanted -- Is that your daughter in the photos? She is adorable. I hope she doesn't get into cake too often like that. Otherwise, we'll find in here with us in the future. :^: I love the sideway coquettish glance in the one picture, the one on the right on the "just for you" page. Beautiful shots. Who took them? When is her birthday?

willow -- ?? Are you joining us? ;) Don't be shy. Tell us a bit about yourself. If you're in for the game, welcome!! :welcome: Sounds like a good challenge.

Caleigh -- Good for you!! Liftoff!! :cp:

angeline -- Join the restart crowd. I'm only going to try to get back into weight related challenges from tomorrow. I haven't been so out of it in years... Are your challenges three different ones or one mega one? Thanks for the support for my challenge. I didn't realize how much I had gotten into the smoking again. I am really wanting to smoke. :^:

Canadian -- How's it going? Make it through Day 3? :strong:

preppin -- Cruising?

Sara -- How are you faring?

miriam -- Congrats on Day 7! :cp: Now, where have you gotten to? :listen:

Apple -- Apple? Yoooo-Hoooo. Where are you?

04-25-2009, 01:43 PM
red balloon, thank you! thats my daughter! she is sitting on my lap now as I type it :) Thank you for likinng the invitation! I just sent it in to print. I took the photos and put it together. I have tiny photo studio in my basement. I do it for friends and other people sometiems too. Her birthday my 10 (on mothers day) but since its Sunay we will do it the weekend after that. So may 16 is when we will actu lly celebrate it.

[willow -- ?? Are you joining us? ;) Don't be shy. Tell us a bit about yourself. If you're in for the game, welcome!! :welcome: Sounds like a good challenge.

hey, yes, joining you all, if that's OK? :) just starting to get back on track and not eating in front of the TV is my biggest challenge.
and i have another one - getting up at the same time every day...
Day 1 is tomorrow for that one.

04-25-2009, 05:34 PM
Day 10 complete. BUT if my husband doesn;t get the next prescription of vitamins tomorrow - I'll be stuck.. And it's a good thing I didn't specify WHAT breakfast IS, LOL <it's been cookies, hahaha but at least i'm setting a pattern....>

Red! Wassup with you??! Get out of those dumps and do something to make yourself proud! And put on your favorite music while you do it. Not smoking is a ROUGH challenge. And you're doing GREAT.

37 - what a dolly! i feel like an evil mommy when I see the energy everyone puts into their kids. I have a bunch of them, but I'm working full time and never get to see them. :(

Anyway - I am zonked, have a tough week ahead.

04-25-2009, 07:17 PM
Ok, here goes on a new start. I am going to go ALL OUT. None of this in-between, indulgent crappola. I've been indulging for far too long and I DON'T need it. I know, I know, the gentle types say, "Don't do the all-or-nothing thing. Go easy on yourself." BUT, BUT, BUT, the all-or-nothing thing works wonders for me. I NEED strictness.

I was reading my blog (which I hadn't updated in months) and was surprised to read how I'd been at one point over 50 days off booze and sugar and cigs and here I am now, atop (no, UNDER!) a garbage heap of excuses, fat and indulgence. YUCK! This is NOT me, or not the me I am capable of. Enough! I am mad and, for me, mad means power! :flow1:

I will post my challenges once I've gotten them off the launch pad.

It's going to be hard but I'm doing the damn no-smoking thing, so I guess I can do some more.

miriam -- Thanks! I needed that! Yeah, what is up with me, moping around like a total wimp, when I'm certainly not, acting like I need this and that to do whatever. Yeah, well, maybe not having those things does make it hard, but what am I going to do about it, eh? Continue to mope?, NOT an option.

And, miriam, what's up with you?! Cookies do not a breakfast make! :nono: Get some fruit in you, or oatmeal, or hummus on black bread, I don't know. What's a traditional Israeli breakfast that a veghead can eat. I'm a veg too, by the way...lacto-ovo, but tending toward vegan. And when you say "strict vegetarian," do you mean vegan?

I am so tired of people eating fish and calling themselves vegetarians. My other peeve is people calling themselves carnivores because they eat meat. They are meat-eaters! Oh, please, read some books, people! Human beings are omnivores no matter what they eat. Cats are carnivores. Eating meat does not me a carnivore make. And a cow could eat meat and it still would be an herbivore. Ok, sorry, had to rant, nothing to do with you there....

Why, tell me, do you need a prescription for vitamins, miriam?

unwanted -- My gosh, you are talented! Really, are you aware of your talent?!? I certainly hope so. And, I hope you're making some money with those photos you do for other people. Tell me, why does it being Sunday mean you can't have a party?

willow -- Of course you can join. It's OK!! :sunny: :spin: :spin: :spin: :sunny: Good luck! :goodluck: Those are good challenges!!

04-25-2009, 09:26 PM
redbaloon! thank you! i do realize of my talent and i am very blessed to have photo equipment. I am just not blessed with time :). So maybe every once in a while i do snap kids photos and probably 1-2 times a month do it for others. But i cant go with it full time (or rely completely on photos money) because there is just not enogh hours in a day for me. Coming months of May and June wil be very busy for me. I have 2 weddings to do (one in May and one June) and have 3 babies photohoot. I dont even know when i will do all that. Thank you so much!!!! I am glad you liked it. I just wanted to share my 1 year old daughter's invitation :)

NO GYM TODAY... i have painful shin splint.. maybe tomorrow will be better

04-26-2009, 11:45 PM
day 20... since i was banded from Treadmill (bad shin splints),... had to do something else... so i did 30 mins on Eliptical and 30 mins on Arc machine. This will be my exercise for a whole month looks like.

I'm back...

My husband and I went to Lake Tahoe this weekend to celebrate our 3 year anniversary. We had a great time! But going on the vacation totally messed up my challenge. So, I'm starting the exercise challenge again tomorrow. I'm also adding on the other two challenges I had before (no desserts or bad fast food). I also want to stop popping my knuckles. So, I'm adding that onto the list as well. I'm giving myself 3 pauses for each challenge...they are all hard ones for me!

Challenges are starting tomorrow.

*I don't even want to weigh myself tomorrow morning....I know I've gained a couple :(*

04-27-2009, 05:53 AM
SARAMOMMY - welcome back! i bet it was a wonderful trip! I just noticed your height and weight is about same as mine now :) I cant even dream to come close to 125. I will look up to you since we are kinda the same :)

04-27-2009, 04:37 PM
not-so-good-news... After getting to a glorious 17 days, I had an over-indulging weekend that has me starting from square one. My Jack & Jill was on Saturday where I had many many drinks and lots of things that aren't exactly allowed in a healthy diet. Plus, I didn't even get any exercise in. So, that's a great big X in all categories.

Day 1 *sigh*
- Alcohol in moderation (max 1 glass on weekdays, 3 on weekends): 3 of 3 pauses left
- NO junk food: 3 of 3 pauses left
- Exercise of some sort every day: 3 of 3 pauses left

04-28-2009, 01:31 AM

We are the same! My goal is 125 because that was my weight before I started having babies. The goal will take time, but I know I can do it!!! Good luck to you...even 140's would be a great difference right now :D

Exercise daily - Day 1

NO desserts - Day 1

NO bad fast food - Day 1

NO popping knuckles - Day 1

Off to a good start!!! :carrot:

Just thought I'd pop in to say hi.
Off challenges again. :( But I'm going to join the Wake Up to The Truth club with Red strating tomorrow. No more excuses, it's time to get serious etc. I had a good week last week, until the week-end hit. But I haven't been exercising much so that will step up and I'll continue with the better eating habits. It all comes down to eat less, exercise more. So tomorrow is day one and the challenges will be:
No Beer (2 pauses allowed)
Stick to exercise schedule (3 pauses allowed)
1500 cals (2 Pauses allowed)
I'm sorry, but I have to do a bit of tidying before DH gets home. Hello everyone!!

04-28-2009, 03:46 AM
I didnt do anything today. My leg hurts so bad now. And today i feel so sick like fever sick from all this pain. I will see if I can get to see dr tomorrow. (for those who dont know, i have leg pain from exersicing too hard).... so whatch out you guys! Dont over do it!

04-28-2009, 11:53 AM
Day 2

- Exercise of some sort every day: 3 of 3 pauses left

37, so sorry to hear about the pain! That sounds awful. Take care of yourself and i wish you a speedy recovery.

04-28-2009, 06:12 PM
Sorry for the absence but I've been going strong...pretty much.

Today is Wednesday.

I've completed 10 days on the No Smoking Challenge
(God, is it only a measly 10? :^: )

AND, I made it through the ultimate test...drinking with my regular drinking buddy, with whom I usually smoke chain! :sunny: I think I'm over the hardest part. Last week was REALLY tough.

Day 3 on an until-now-undeclared No Sugar, No Processed Foods Challenge.

Hurrah! :bravo:

No time to talk now. I'll try to get in here later!

04-29-2009, 12:02 PM
Day 3
- Alcohol in moderation (max 1 glass on weekdays, 3 on weekends): 3 of 3 pauses left
- NO junk food: 3 of 3 pauses left
- Exercise of some sort every day: 3 of 3 pauses left

red, doing great!!! keep it up :D

04-29-2009, 01:20 PM

I had written a loooong post with personals and all 2 days ago - and it's not even here! WTH?!

Challenges: going strong - day 16 done

37 - how are you doing now?

Apple - nice to see ya!

PB - good for you to hop right back on the wagon!

Saramommy - ugh,,,such rough challenges! Go girl go!

And RED.... Well well well! Sneaking in undeclared challenges? LOL You crack me up :)

04-29-2009, 03:12 PM
Well i did go to the gym last night... so that was my day 21. I did 1 mile on treadmill walking (3 mph) and then did weights. Its not 3 miles but you get what you get lol.... My leg is still not perfect but its getting better. Now i will see what i can do for next challange.

We should start May challange thread soon :) this became very long :)

Hey 37-take it easy on the leg, stick to walking for a while. I have knee trouble too, and I am so afraid to over-use and not be able to run at all. My new exercise schedule has only 4 days of running a week.
Prep, you are off to a good start!
Miriam, on the home stretch! Go!:cheer3:
Red, 10 days is just about halfway! You are doing great!!
I did not start any of my challenges, I don't think calorie counting will be possible for me. I have to think of a different eating challenge.
In the mean time...
No Beer, Day 1, (2 pauses allowed)
Stick to exercise schedule, lift off, (3 pauses allowed)

04-29-2009, 05:01 PM
Apple - I don't even know how to count calories... I went to a dietitian last week to help me form some kind of plan for eating as I was just diagnosed with celiac <what else can go wrong?? LOL> and she had me write down everything I ate for the whole week and come back to her. Well - my appt is in the morning and I CAN'T BELIEVE how much food I consumed this week. Ugh. Feels gross seeing it on paper...
I think maybe I should make that one of my challenges again - writing food down, as it *may* help keep me somewhat on track.

37 - take it easy...I did Level 1 of Jillian's 30 day shred (did first time on monday, doing it 3 times a week, maybe..that's what the plan is anyway..) and heck am I sore! And I can't even do a modified push-up! So much for fitness....

04-29-2009, 06:21 PM
Day 11 completed on No Smoking Challenge

Day 4 completed on my Get Real Challenge! (that means only REAL food goes in my mouth!)

prepping -- Thanks for the support! And you're doing great yourself! :cp: :sunny: :flow1: Keep it up!! :cheer2:

Apple -- Good to have you back, old trooper. I hate calorie counting and still rail against it. Eating healthy is better for me, no sugar, no processed foods. It's really hard and ticks me off that it's so hard to find good food and have to get through all the junk out there that is pushed and marketed as food. It's NOT! It's garbage. And it's getting worse here, with more and more fast-food and faster food joints popping up. Good luck on your no-beer challenge. And congrats on the exercise liftoff! :cp:

unwanted -- You've really got to take it easy. You have already injured yourself from overdoing it and if you keep at it, you could just end up being knocked out of action for much, much longer. That's why it's important to choose 21-day challenges that are actually doable and a lot of things don't fit the parameters. It's not always about determination and will power. A lot of times is about strategy.
The 21er is not made for certain types of things but there are other threads for those. Maybe you should reassess and regroup. You'Ve got to listen to your body!!
Oh, and unwanted, long thread? This is nothing. We used to have threads that were huge. And then we've had threads that went on for months with just a couple of us, like Apple and, of course, me. These threads don't start by months or anything else. They start, get this, when I, me, moi, :) start a new personal challenge and that will almost always coincide with my finishing an old challenge. So, if you want a new thread soon, you'll just have to be sure to cheer me on and get me through my best one so far, the no-smoking thread. Just about 10 days to go! :cheer2:
Come on, help me out!!!

miriam -- What happened to your post??!? Great going on the challenges. What are you doing anyhow?
Glad I amused you. An undeclared challenge, in the jargon of these most ancient threads is known as a "slealth." You see, we have a history!
Oh, speaking of Shred, I bought the video but it's the wrong region and can't watch it! And, at that moment, I'm writing a story on your area, an interview with a journalist who has written a lot of books and done films on the Occupied Territories (i.e., Gaza, West Bank). Can you speak Hebrew? I think the writing looks impossible...and I read Japaense! All the Hebrew letters look the same to me! I'm up early to try to work on that and here I am, distracting myself further! :nono:

04-29-2009, 06:24 PM

Oh, and Sara, forgot about you...your post was SO far back!! Successful liftoff, eh? Atta girl!! :bravo:

04-29-2009, 07:38 PM
OMG thank you!!!!!! llol i completed the chalange with enjury! Lesson learned :) But again this is all new to me - fitness and such. I would have to think of new things now.

04-30-2009, 03:33 AM
I am craving sugar badly!! Help!!! Sometime send me some support! I have a LONG story to write and always when I write I crave sugar...or maybe a cigarette would be good....

04-30-2009, 07:54 AM
Well, I made it through the cravings, appeased them by going out and getting some sweet watermelon. Also found some nonfat yogurt (very rare here) and put 100 percent fruit jam in it. Ok, I used to do this. The calories are too high, but for now, I'll take it.
I then took a break from writing, went to the convenience store, looked at the exercise magazines and imagined myself doing a workout :lol3: :^: ......then bought more food and came home and ate it.
I want to get back exercising. I have had long weeks of lethargy, other than walking and riding. But that's not enough and my body wants more!
Depending on the progress I can make on this story, perhaps I can get to the gym before work tomorrow.
Wish me luck!

I'm calling today...

Day 12 on No Smoking Challenge completed

Day 5 on Get Real Challenge completed
(I haven't eaten any sugar in 5 days...why haven't I lost 5 lbs? ;) )

04-30-2009, 11:59 AM
Day 4
- Alcohol in moderation (max 1 glass on weekdays, 3 on weekends): 3 of 3 pauses left
- NO junk food: 3 of 3 pauses left
- Exercise of some sort every day: 3 of 3 pauses left

Doing great with my exercise routine of resistance training! Even if I'm not dropping pounds, it's kind of neat to be able to see muscle definition. :)

04-30-2009, 12:36 PM

Exercise daily - Day 4

NO desserts - Day 4

NO bad fast food - Day 4

NO popping knuckles - Day 1

Back to my routine! I'm also back on track with my weight loss journey!! Down 1 pound today :dancer:

Everyone is doing so great!! Keep it up!!! :cheer:

No Beer, Day 2, (2 pauses allowed)
Stick to exercise schedule, Day 1 (3 pauses allowed)
Eat to lose weight, lift off (3 pauses allowed)
OK, Eat to lose weight is just that. If I pig out, or make unhealthy choices, well, that's a pause (or failure) I'll KNOW when I've screwed up and I'll be honest with myself.;) I don't know how else to challenge myself with food with out being too restrictive.
In case anyone is wondering, my exercise sched is this: Sun: Rest or Wii fit, Mon: Run, Tue: Gym, Wed: Run, Thurs: Gym, Fri: Run, Sat: Bike. My running schedule will have me running a 7 miler by the middle of June! And I'll probably throw in elipitical or bike on gym days, and Wii fit here and there. Wii fit doesn't count as REAL exercise, but the strength and yoga stuff feels good.
Red, sorry I couldn't be there for you in your time of need. :hug:Congrats on making it through on your own! You are more powerful than you let yourself believe!!!
Saramom, looking good!! Congrats on the one pound. That reminds me, weigh in tomorrow!:sp:
37! Yes I forgot to congratulate you yesterday! Great job!:cp::cp::cp:
I know what you mean, Miriam. I think I am bailing out of the counting cals challenge because the reality is too depressing. ;)
No really, I just can't do it with the family around. It's too hard. What causes
I'm tempted to try the 30 day shred...I've never been too successful with videos though...

05-01-2009, 02:50 AM
Hi all,

Day 18 complete here. Going for the home stretch.... Should start thinking about what to plan next.

What a stupid fiasco at the dietitian. She certainly doesn't know much about real nutrition, and next to nothing about vegetarianism. She kept asking me - do you eat tuna? No. Duh. Anyway - she gave me such a stupid diet that I kinda just sat there and was like - what? This is what you want me to eat every day? Whatever. Waste of time, if you ask me... Don't know where the celiac came from - just kinda popped up - actually found it by accident because I don't have any classical celiac symptoms.

37 - WTG on completing you challenge! Don't stop now - what's next? :)

PB - muscle definition? What's that? LOL I'd like to see my waist, hahaha Getting closer to your big day - eh?

Saramommy - good for you1 Staying on challenges, and weight loss... Keep it up!

Red! Good for you for resisting nasty temptation! And yes, I'm fluent in Hebrew and you're right - for someone who knows Japanese - what's a few Hebrew letters?? We only have 22 :) I used to live in the occupied territories. But do I have some interesting stories myself!! :) Hmm - maybe Hebrew letters cause sugar cravings. Wouldn't THAT explain a thing or 2! HAHA

Apple - wow you really have a tough exercise regime! Do you enjoy the exercise? I just did the 30 day shred for the 3rd time, that Jillian is a slave driver. All my muscles hurt, so either I'm doing something very right or very wrong!! LOL And this stupid diet the dietitian gave me - I kind of feel like I'm on my own again. I really should go to some nutritionist who knows a thing or 2 about celiac and vegetarianism etc.

No Beer, Day 3, (2 pauses allowed)
Stick to exercise schedule, Day 2 (3 pauses allowed)
Eat to lose weight, Day 1 (3 pauses allowed)
Yay, my weigh in was 162! At least the scale moved in the right direction!!
Miriam, I read a brief article about celiac because I was curious. Apparently you can have it with out knowing it. (no symptoms!) Fun. But as far as I could gather, it's a gluten thing, right? I wouldn't bother consulting a nutritionist, they seem kind of quacky to me, but thats just me on a :soap:. Grab some books from the library first, I KNOW there are tons of Veg cook books, probably lots of gluten free one's too.

05-01-2009, 04:41 PM
Let see... my new 21 days challange will be...
1. .... at least 1 hour of exersice a day
2. .... 2 glasses of water before breakfast and 9 glasses of water total in a day (or more.. but not less)
3. .... no meals after 7pm. Fruit can be allowed as 9pm snack.

Day 13 completed on No Smoking

Day 6 completed on Get Real Challenge

05-02-2009, 06:02 PM
Well, I'm two weeks down. Last night I had a couple beers and, now that I think about it, the thought of smoking never even crossed my mind. It was not the kind of situation where I would have been sorely tempted to smoke, but still, it was something.

Day 14 completed on No Smoking

Day 7 completed on Get Real Challenge

How's everyone doing? :listen: It sure gets lonely in here on the weekends... :(

05-03-2009, 01:39 AM

Exercise daily - Day 6

NO desserts - Day 6

NO bad fast food - Day 5 -used a pause day yesterday...shoot!

NO popping knuckles - still on the starting blocks :p

05-03-2009, 08:15 AM
Well, I hadn't meant to take any pauses, but I I had sugar, not all that much and I don't plan to continue it (it's not worth it!) but I did have some sugar ...confessed.

I'm calling the day, because I'm NOT going to smoke...

Day 15 completed on No Cigs

Day 7 completed 1 pause taken on Get Real challenge

Sara -- Good going on exercise and desserts! :cp: Fast food? Oops...did Mac's get you? What's with the no popping knuckles challenge? :coach: Are you going to do it or NOT? ...bit of drill sergeant there for ya. :drill: How 'bout you knuckle down, eh, and start racking up those days? :lol3:

unwanted, Apple, miriam, prepping, hang in there!! :flow1:

05-03-2009, 03:05 PM
Okay - day 20 complete! Can't believe I've taken vitamins so many days in a row! LOL One more day...

I started another challenge today too - I'm going to call it the X challenge (as in X-ercise, haha) and that is to do some sort of exercise every day <yes I have a plan, but I'm scared to commit it to paper, uh - computer, so I don't jinx it> BUT I do want to share: I did 5.23 K on the treadmill in 52 minutes!! I am vERYYYYYYY proud of myself, and for some reason don't seem to be getting enough positive feedback at home about that, so I'm looking for some online, haha

It is celiac awareness month in Israel and also a gluten-free restaurant festival and my parents took me out to lunch and I made <fairly> good choices, except dessert. Well, can't have it all! At least I only took a few bites of my father's and didn't order any for me!

RED - WTG...2 weeks! Wow! I can't believe it's been that long! Tel me again about the get real challenge. How's your story going? Has your Hebrew fluency improved? ;)

Saramommy (can I do SM for short??) - almost a week! I don't know how to not pop my knuckles for an HOUR let alone a DAY... Let us know how that goes..

Apple - how goes it? The celiac is..challenging, haha I'm so limited with my food as it is. That really sucks <pardon my language> as food is literally my only vice. Whaddya say, gals? Shall I take up smoking or drinking instead? Sorry, that's not really funny. Especially since I enjoy drinking!!! LOL

05-03-2009, 06:39 PM
miriam -- Good for you! 20 days, wow! Talk about how fast my days seem to be going, I can't believe you're almost through! :?: And three cheers for the treadmill 5 K plus. :bravo: :bravo: :bravo: Don't you hate it when people close to you don't seem to care, or don't care? I never get any feedback period. The only place I ever did get it was in the gym or when it was totally unwanted and even rude. Japan is really bad for that. You'll meet someone you haven't seem in a long time and the first thing will be, "you've gotten fat!" OK, that's not the norm nor is it considered polite. It's just the old guys in my circles do that a lot.... I mean, I never go, "and ****, you look ancient, a ton older than you used to, you have less hair and you basically look like a sleaze." Maybe I should start making my own comments and see how they take it.

Is it really celiac awareness month? How bizarre! Well, good for you for refraining at lunch!

The Get Real Challenge is about eating what I call "real food," nothing processed, all natural or as close as I can get without feeling totally deprived. I have a breakfast of oats and all sorts of different grains and seeds (such as amaranth, quinoa, millet, flax, hemp) with dried foods cooked in (cranberries, blueberries, raisins) with raw honey and soy milk on it and my other favorite lunch or dinner is a huge salad of mixed raw veggies with cheese (my weakness and why I don't want to go vegan :^: ) and then hot brown rice and maybe lentils on top (which melts the cheese), that kind of thing. I'm still allowing bread but I want to get away from this. I feel so wonderful and full of energy when I don't eat any processed foods and/or white sugar. My problem is I stray too often from this or I drink beer or I just eat too much of the good things!

I tell you, I cannot stand, absolutely hate it to not have a clue about a language. Now, all I need to do is google around and I did just that with Hebrew. I found some excellent, really amazing Web sites on learning. For now, I just want to be able to recognize the alphabet. I have already studied Russian and Bengali and Korean, but Hebrew bugged the bejiggers out of me. I kid you not, I can now identify aleph, bet, mem and mem sofit in book print, manual print and cursive (and maybe write them myself). Just let me crack the script. It's enough for me not to feel like you feel when there's a word/song name something, right on the tip of you tongue and you just can't remember it. That's exactly how I feel when I see some language that is totally Greek to me!

Oh, yes, and my story is done and printed. Gave it to the film director whose film it was I was watching and a profile on him. He was very happy about it. :)

05-04-2009, 03:11 AM
ACED IT - 21 days of breakfast, B12 and Vitamin D finished!

Day 2 - X challenge

Red - you can almost read my name then - miriam has a mem, then raish, then yud, and then mem sofit! I love languages. If I had a lot of money and no financial obligations I'd like to hang out at Berlitz and soak em up!

Running to work now! TTYL

05-04-2009, 12:02 PM
i am starting today :)

05-04-2009, 03:01 PM
wow, lots happened over the weekend.

I'm starting over the challenge as of today. Too many functions over the weekend.

Day 1
- Alcohol in moderation (max 1 glass on weekdays, 3 on weekends): 3 of 3 pauses left
- NO junk food: 3 of 3 pauses left
- Exercise of some sort every day: 3 of 3 pauses left

05-04-2009, 09:54 PM
Well, the news is good and not good. I was thinking I had made both my challenges yesterday but I didn't. Though I didn't eat any sugar, I did eat some chips (which probably did have some sugar in them anyhow) and those are processed junk. So, I'm going to have to take another pause....yikes.

I did, however, abstain from smoking, though I was tempted. Out with a buddy (former buddy?) I was pretty shocked by some of the criticism he was laying on me and found myself wanting to go off to some of my old haunts and lick my wounds with disgusting smokes. But, I didn't. I came home and had the chips instead. Not bad, considering the alternatives (total sugar pigout, out till morning after chain smoking...yes, people, I am a jerk).

Day 16 completed on No Cigs

Day 7 completed on Get Real, with 2 pauses taken

Gotta shape up and get myself in check here!

unwanted -- Good luck!! :goodluck:

prepping -- And good luck to you too!! :sunny:

miriam -- Hurrah!!! :cp: :encore: :cp:
GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!! :dancer: :dancer: :dancer:
Ok, I looked up yud and raish. I can't see how that spells Miriam though, or is your name different in Hebrew? Well, I guess I can, but it seems different.... How does it sound? I think we are similar with languages, though I don't have the love of them so much. I need to talk with people and experience life through those languages and then I can continue just studying the languages. I need to actually make the language be a part of me somehow through experience. I used to be able to just study but that has lost its appeal. Besides, there are just too many languages. The reason Hebrew bugged me is because I was listening to people speak it and saw the Web sites while I was doing this article. Of course, I also want to learn Arabic!

05-05-2009, 03:41 PM

Exercise daily - Day 9

NO desserts - Day 9

NO bad fast food - Day 8

05-06-2009, 01:48 PM
Could have sworn I messaged yesterday... guess not!

I'm gonna try for no more than 1 "bad" food a day, with 3 pause days (Fridays are date nights with my hubby).

Athendta, that's a worthwhile challenge! I had to taper down to 1 "bad" meal a week and then was informed by my trainer that it should only be 1 bad meal a month. sucks don't it? lol (i'm still doing my best to follow her advice -- very poorly so far!)

Going strong for my first week!

Day 4
- Alcohol in moderation (max 1 glass on weekdays, 3 on weekends): 3 of 3 pauses left
- NO junk food: 3 of 3 pauses left
- Exercise of some sort every day: 3 of 3 pauses left

I did 2 days good at my challange but i need to stop with at least excersise part - we are looking for the house so no time for the gym... I will come back when we are less busy. I will continue with water and food challange on my own :)

Yeah, all, sorry for the absence.
I have fallen off my Get Real Challenge and been having too much junk. Still, I've gotten to the gym and I have kept going on the no smoking, so I'm not terribly upset. I do want to get the other challenge going again. I felt very good and had lots of energy when I was on it. But I won't commit just yet..... :^:
