Announcements and Forum Help! - Problems with the Forum Locking-up IEView Full Version : Problems with the Forum Locking-up IE mojolove05 03-11-2009, 12:56 PM Has anyone else experienced the forums locking up and having to close IE and try again? I've tried this on 2 different commputers and am having the same problems? Any advice? Suzanne 3FC 03-11-2009, 01:06 PM I haven't experienced any problems, but I don't use IE. Firefox is a lot faster and the whole internet seems to run smoother, in my personal experience. Have you considered Firefox? lovelosing 03-11-2009, 01:30 PM I don't think it's a browser problem. I had the same issue a couple of days ago using Safari - my computer completely froze several times. And only on this site; other forums I visit were fine. But it only lasted a short time and seems to be ok today. Rosinante 03-11-2009, 01:41 PM Mine's been doing it for a couple of weeks and it's definitely been worse yesterday and today - I have to close down and start again. I mentioned it a couple of days ago and a kind 3fc lady said it might be my server and their server having issues with each other and to let them know if it didn't resolve. So it's not just me. I love this site - it stops me eating! Some of the pauses now between pages give me time to go and make a sandwich... and.... and... help! moonkissed 03-11-2009, 02:01 PM I use IE as well and it started doing that to me yesterday. I thought maybe just alot of people were on then so it was being slower. So annoying lol. I always read the forums in the morning before work and this morning I kept not being able to read or reply and it would freeze up and I would have to close it all :( and boo firefox lol. I like to have like 30 pages(tabs) open at once (multi-tasking!) and firefox doesn't work so well with that lol. It gets way slower for someone who does that like me. Anyways it seems ok for now for me so yay! dcat4563 03-11-2009, 02:03 PM I have, but most of the times reloading the page has helped. I have had to completely close a few times (grrr). mojolove05 03-11-2009, 02:24 PM I'll try firefox and see if it helps just for this forum since its the only one I am having probs with. Thanks. yoyoma 03-11-2009, 02:28 PM I had it happen to me on Firefox. Hitting control alt delete cleared the problem, but it happened several times. saef 03-11-2009, 02:54 PM This is definitely the worst of the sites I visit during the day for delayed response times or freezing & locking up. Yeah, I'm on IE. BillBlueEyes 03-11-2009, 03:06 PM Response was sometimes awful on 3FC until I paid the fee for no advertisements. It's run smooth and fast ever since. I sometimes use Firefox and sometimes use IE. Rosinante 03-11-2009, 06:11 PM I don't think it exists any more. time2lose 03-11-2009, 08:43 PM I have had the same problem with freezing in IE 7.0 and Firefox. I did not realize that there is a fee version. I will check into that. 3 fat chicks is such a help to me that I am willing to pay a fee if it is one I can afford. mygritsconfessions 03-11-2009, 09:00 PM I haven't had any problems - yet.......lol elle w 19 03-11-2009, 10:05 PM Yesterday the site was freezing every time I tried to search from the home page sindy9001 03-11-2009, 10:14 PM I use Firefox. That's very convenient, I used IE before, then one friend introduce Firefox to me.Now I think Firefox is better than IE. You can conside to have one, you will love it. murphmitch 03-11-2009, 11:30 PM I use the newest version of IE and have a subscription to 3FC & I lose this site all the time & have to close my browser & reopen it to get back on. I just figured the site was busy at the time. This is the only website I have issues with. Windchime 03-12-2009, 12:20 AM It happens frequently to me as well. I'll be browsing along just fine and all the sudden the page times out and I get either a Dell search page (if I"m using IE) or a Firefox page that says "Oooops, the server stopped responding" or something along those lines. Using a different browser usually doesn't make a difference for me. canadianwoman 03-12-2009, 02:36 AM I'm having he same problems with this forum as well. zenor77 03-12-2009, 09:20 PM I have never had more problems than I have with Microsoft programs, be it surfing the web or doing other things. IE is terrible, it always locks up and is unresponsive on my computer at work regardless of the site. Firefox, however, is wonderful and works great on that same computer. Firefox also has a really great Ad blocker. I almost never see ads with Firefox. It's really nice. Amarantha 03-12-2009, 09:56 PM Under another user name I was a long-time user of 3FC (love it) and had issues when I had another computer so I didn't use it for awhile but with the computer I have (old and still dial-up because that's all I can get), I am now able to access 3FC ok again with my new user name. However, even in the past and again with this name, I find that the no ad subscription significantly eliminates problems with 3FC. I've had more problems lately with another site than with 3FC as long as I have the no ad subscription. I've never used Firefox, don't desire to. EZMONEY 03-12-2009, 10:42 PM I use the newest version of IE and have a subscription to 3FC & I lose this site all the time & have to close my browser & reopen it to get back on. I just figured the site was busy at the time. This is the only website I have issues with. SAME HERE! It is so frustrating! And as Angie is always reminding me after I yell at her to "fix this stupid computer"..."IT only happens with your fat chicks dear" Suzanne 3FC 03-12-2009, 11:06 PM I'm looking into it, and appreciate all of the input! Hopefully we can get it resolved quickly. It's tricky because I"m unable to duplicate it on this end. I've tried 3 computers and it all works fine for me. I'm still watching tho! dannab1 03-14-2009, 06:50 PM Happens to me often but only on the weekends......maybe related to the traffic?? kiramira 03-26-2009, 10:43 AM I did a websearch and it might have to do with Vista interacting with the website. I have lockage too, and have noticed it only on the computer that has Vista on it. It might not be a 3FC problem, but a Microsoft problem. Kira Windchime 03-26-2009, 10:46 AM I don't have Vista and it happens to me frequently. Some days are much worse than others. Rosinante 03-26-2009, 11:04 AM It's about 60% of the time for me now. It doesn't matter the time of day though, I'm frequently on here at low-traffic times (on UK time) but it still happens. Or doesn't. kiramira 03-26-2009, 11:12 AM I still think it is something in the operating system that interacts with the pop-up attempts such as casselmedia. Even if you block the popups it happens as all these sites are trying to open up even if they are not successful. Systems locking is fairly commonplace, if you do the websearch, and it seems to be as a result of too much info trying to be processed by the system (with all the animations/links/etc. going on nowadays). I don't think this is a 3FC problem. Kira Tabby 03-26-2009, 11:47 AM I have had it happen to me also. I have vista and I use IE. Shannon in ATL 03-26-2009, 12:51 PM It almost never happens to me on this site with Firefox, but happens on Livestrong all the time... It used to happen to me multiple times daily on IE. jellydisney 04-01-2009, 08:03 AM Add me to the list of people having problems with this forum. I think it may have something to do with the ads loading? My IE will freeze and at the bottom of the screen it says "Waiting for google.ad. (insert extra jargon)" Or the other theory is high traffic. But it's very annoying. I have to keep closing the browser and starting over. QuilterInVA 04-01-2009, 10:50 AM Have you downloaded IE 8? Solves many of those problems. EMW10173 04-01-2009, 04:31 PM I use the newest version of IE and have a subscription to 3FC & I lose this site all the time & have to close my browser & reopen it to get back on. I just figured the site was busy at the time. This is the only website I have issues with. I've been on this forum for a short time and this is exactly what is occurring. JazzyPeggy 04-01-2009, 07:04 PM I am having the same problems. And it appears to be the google ads causing it, at the bottom of the page you can see it's waiting on google ads. Suzanne 3FC 04-01-2009, 07:12 PM Just to let you know, I have a tech looking into this and hopefully it will be resolved quickly :) sportmom 04-04-2009, 11:52 PM It's working better for me as of today. It was really impacting my ability to get on here, so thanks so much for fixing it! ETA: As of this posting, it's back. Still the google ads loading at bottom. I'll see if I can save it as a screen print and post it here or pm it to you. me4life 04-05-2009, 10:49 PM must be ie cause i use firefox and never have a problem BillBlueEyes 04-09-2009, 08:35 AM Lockup continues for me during the day when I use Internet Explorer 7. Easy workaround: Hit [HOME] then [BACK] and all is forgiven. Also works to hit [BACK] then [FORWARD] ALso works to hit <an advertisement that overwrites the screen> then [BACK] (It didn't work with a diamond ad that opened a new window.) Seems that anything that distracts it from its last googlehead ad thingy gets life going again. sportmom 04-09-2009, 10:29 AM I've found that if i hit refresh twice after i click on the link i can usually get a thread open. annoying, but it works. it's definitely the 'waiting on ad' message that the left bottom of the screen corner reads. Thighs Be Gone 04-09-2009, 10:47 AM I have had this happen several times in the last few days. Windchime 04-09-2009, 10:48 AM I've found that if i hit refresh twice after i click on the link i can usually get a thread open. annoying, but it works. it's definitely the 'waiting on ad' message that the left bottom of the screen corner reads. That's what I've noticed, too. After several lockup-free days, it did it to me again this morning. After I close my browser and re-open it, it takes me several tries to re-connect to the site; I get taken to a Google Search page that says it cannot find this site if I try to reconnect too quickly. It's not just with IE; I have also had it happen with Firefox. Like others have mentioned, sometimes hitting refresh (F5) after clicking a link helps but it didn't work this morning. bunny43 04-14-2009, 12:07 PM I was also experiencing 'freezing' up with IE7. I installed IE8 and it's still freezing and closing. Cie 04-14-2009, 02:59 PM I use Chrome for 3FC and I just experienced what other people have been writing about. It froze so completely not even alt-ctrl-del would work. I had to pull the plug on the computer. Fortunately if a weird shutdown happens Chrome will restore pages that were open. So it is not just IE. witchyonadiet 04-14-2009, 03:44 PM Yup - me too. It happens consistently with this forum and not with the other one I use. Rosinante 04-14-2009, 04:48 PM I've just got used to it now. Extra calories burned reloading pages? Mudpie 04-14-2009, 06:25 PM I thought it might be my computer but I've had it freeze to a point where I have to shut down completely on 3 computers. Apparently there are some problems with IE communicating with other programs, according to my computer tech aka DH. Dagmar :?: jellydisney 04-15-2009, 08:02 AM Still having problems... any word on fixing this? Farseashore 04-17-2009, 07:56 AM I've had this problem for the last few weeks. Opening the 3FC forums, or opening a thread in the forums, IE will freeze and then automatically close. This happens at least once a day, and only on 3FC. BillBlueEyes 04-17-2009, 01:24 PM In two sessions today using Internet Explorer 7, 3FC has performed normally without lockups. Congratulations to whoever did whatever. BillBlueEyes 04-17-2009, 01:59 PM Spoke too soon. It froze multiple times posting the above. Oh Well. Wishing you guys good luck getting to the root to this. It's a bummer. daniela 04-17-2009, 05:06 PM I've been having the same problems. Jennifer 3FC 04-18-2009, 08:34 AM Oh, I'm sorry! I'll find out the status and let you know. kittycat40 04-18-2009, 09:07 AM WHen I see the lock up is about to happen-- I hit the stop button on the toolbar and then go button on the page it was trying to load and it happens for me. but my requiring these actions is relatively new to the past month. Fat Chick B Gone 04-18-2009, 10:50 AM I've been having the same problem on two different computers. Hope you guys can figure it out soon! Fat Chick B Gone 05-06-2009, 03:23 PM This is still happening quite a bit. Locket 05-06-2009, 04:38 PM I'm glad I'm not the only one! I thought it was the combination of this site and my browser. :( Satine 05-07-2009, 11:31 AM I dont even come on this site that much anymore, cant even posts to my thread because each time I come into the forum the whole site just gets stuck :( EMW10173 05-09-2009, 04:03 AM I dont even come on this site that much anymore, cant even posts to my thread because each time I come into the forum the whole site just gets stuck :( It does really ruin it. I visit my other message boards everyday and don't have any of these problems only this site.. chick_in_the_hat 05-09-2009, 02:01 PM I've never had a problem since I switched to Firefox. Platinum 05-09-2009, 03:43 PM Wow! I've never had a problem with this site. I use Mozilla5.0 mostly but sometimes use IE7 I have Vista too. It always runs perfectly smooth for me. I don't pay a fee to use this site (never will pay a fee to use a forum) and it works fine. Maybe it's time for people to clean out their computers. Or run Lavasoft's Adaware, it's free too! EMW10173 05-09-2009, 04:15 PM Like everyone else says, I don't have any other problems like this on my other forums, only this one. Leeesa 05-09-2009, 05:05 PM Me too teensie3 05-09-2009, 07:40 PM Same here...having issues everytime I get on here to browse around (which has been less in the last couple days because it's so frustrating). Not sure what is going on but this is also the only site that it happens to me with. When I see it start to freeze I hit my back button and click the link again. Sometimes that helps, sometimes it doesn't. Bummer. SupaChix 05-09-2009, 08:10 PM Well I am glad that it's not just me. I thought it was because I was going back and forth between tabs, but then I have tried it with nothing else opened and the same thing happens. It's frustrating. Rosinante 05-10-2009, 11:02 AM I've cleaned out my computer, done every kind of cleaning/defragging and it makes no difference. In fact this past few days I've had to reload most pages 4 or 5 times. Doesn't matter from which part of the site. All other sites are fine. Suzanne 3FC 05-10-2009, 11:43 AM Quick update - Techs are aware of this thread and have read the complaints, but they've not been able to duplicate the problem yet so no changes have been made. I've not had the problem and I use Firefox, but I also tried IE6 and Google Chrome and Opera and still didn't experience any problems. I'm going to post a new thread with a Q/A which I hope might narrow it down. Thanks :) vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
