With so many new people maybe a breakfast thread would be helpful. Seems like it's the hardest meal of the day to plan, especially in Phase 1. Do you have to eat eggs? Vegetables vs. juice? I know I always come up with new ideas from these threads too! So post your breakfast and whether it's P1 or P2.

Today I had
2 cups broccoli sauteed with salsa over 3/4 c homemade refried pinto beans. I felt decadent and topped the whole thing with Trader Joe's rf Mexican cheese blend.

This is my go to breakfast when I need something warm that will stay with me all morning. Broccoli is loaded with protein so this is a high protein, high fiber meal - great for energy and for keeping everything happy if ya know what I mean ;) Very Phase 1, as are most of my breakfasts.

Refried beans with salsa and cheese is one of my standards too. I'll eat any old dinner leftovers I've got for breakfast. Deviled eggs, mmm. An open faced turkey sandwich with baby spinach (or a wrap) - I got that one from Cat. Occasionally I'll eat oatmeal with fruit, but I usually like to save my grains and fruits for later. If I'm feeling more breakfasty, I like the chocolate cheesecake smoothie, and if I've got a little time to cook, the cottage cheese pancake is great. I eat eggs often, but not usually for breakfast!

today is leftovers from dinner last night! half of a mini stromboli made with whole wheat dough... I was too afraid to eat the whole thing last night even though I only used a half a cup of flour for the whole crust-and then I even took about a third of that and made a pizza crust for another day- topped it and put in the freezer... whoa- went way off topic! sorry!

Today I had a simple Phase 1 breakfast - 2 small breakfast cups that I made last night with canadian bacon, tomatoes, green chilis and green peppers. I realized as they were baking I forgot the cheese, but I really didn't miss it! They were delicious for my first try at breakfast cups!

I make the cinnamon omelet often. I had it this morning with ricotta instead of cream cheese (cream cheese tastes too heavy) and strawberries. It was a phase 2 breakfast because of the strawberries.

I am ADDICTED to the protein shake that is listed in the Phase 1 breakfast recipes section. I hate making anything for breakfast, so this is perfect. Toss some items in the blender and drink. I am full and completely satisfied.

I made it with orange jello flavour this morning and it was just as good as the strawberry shake I had yesterday!

Yummo!!

this morning was a 1/4 cup granola, 4 straberries, 1/4 cup blueberries and 4 tablespoons of plain yogurt. SOOOOOO good! tomorrow will be turkey bacon and eggs.

Oh yeah, I do V-8 but sometimes I do both veggies AND V-8!

Today I had a large omelet at work filled with mushrooms, peppers, onion and spinach. My usual breakfast is oat bran hot cereal with unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze, splenda, cinnamon and a Tbs of almond butter mixed in, with a glass of spicy V-8.

I do cinnamon omelets a lot. today I blended in about 1/3 cup pumpkin. Made it delicious :)

Also, I have been blending 1/2C FF yogurt, 1/2 cup pumpkin, vanilla, splenda, pumpkin pie spice. Then I add 1/2 cup kashi. It's like a breakfast pumpkin pie (and a super high-fiber way to start may day).

On the weekends, when I tend to "brunch" instead of two separate meals, I do mock heuvos rancheros... heat up some black beans, salsa, and cheese, and top with two eggs. sooo filling.

May I ask where all of you are getting these recipes, like the protein shakes and cinnamon omelets, and are they Phase 1 friendly? I have the old book from when I first did the diet 4 years ago, and I've never heard of these!

So, I make a huge (44oz) cup of coffee with cream, Stevia and Splenda. If I can get this in my little hands early in the mornings it helps me to have practically no appetite, which I want until about 11:30am when I eat a salad. And then another salad at between 3:30 and 4:00. That's it and the weight is just barely and I do mean barely creeping off. It is just crazy to eat this little and loose so little wt. Color me extremely discouraged. But hanging in there amazingly consistantly so far. Sheesh.................

Look in the recipe section of the South Beach Forum at the top of the page. It's broken down into recipe type (breakfast, desserts, etc.) and also by Phase. Tons of recipes there.

grabec, are you on The South Beach Diet? Starving yourself is definitely NOT a part of this plan. You should be eating 3 well-balanced meals a day and at least 2 snacks. Also, eating breakfast is important to get your metabolism going. That's probably why you aren't losing weight. Without starting your metabolism you won't burn calories.

Reporting in from the land of weird breakfasts :) If you eat tofu and haven't discovered soyboy baked tofu I highly recommend it. I used to make sandwiches with it and like it better than a lot of the meat analogs. Today I had stir fried broccoli slaw mix (Is there anything easier?!) with smoked tofu & mushrooms. I added a side of refried beans, of course. I don't eat beans on oatmeal days but add them with just about every other breakfast. Nothing does a better job of keep me full and happy through the morning and it really seems to keep me on track through the day. as long as it works!

Twynn - 4T of cinnamon sounds like a ton. I just sprinkle some in - if I had to guess, I would think maybe a tablespoon, probably less. I also add a sprinkle of nutmeg.

I'm a HUGE fan of Trader Joe's uncured turkey bacon. mmmmmmm....i don't eat eggs, so my side is often southern style cabbage, pinto beans, low sodium v8, or some other random crazy "dinner" food. I also eat a lot of Weight Watchers yogurt - the nonfat kind.

On the weekends, sometimes I make a "treat" of Kashi Blueberry Flaxseed waffles, with homemade blueberry sauce and a little cool whip light.

Cyndi- where do you find that tofu?

CyndiM
03-05-2009, 09:56 PM
Rikki- It's this stuff http://www.soyboy.com/baked.htm. Looks like it's a NYS company and it doesn't list stores :( There are online sources, but I can't find a store list. All the varieties are good but the smoked and the tofu lin are my favorites as is with the flavors good in quick stir fries. They can be a little hazardous because they make excellent sandwiches with veganaise, something I try to avoid these days :)

Cyndi, I looked for that tofu yesterday while I was at the Giant, but they don't carry it. I'll check a few stores this weekend, since I really want to try it. I did pick up some fake chicken strips, though, to make Chicken Tortilla Soup with. I hope it works well in it. ;)

I have a brand new box of oatmeal, and I'm making my good old standby - oatmeal with nuts, berries & cinnamon. :)

Hi, I'm new posted in the bio's.
I had a spinach egg omelett. I'm not great with following the recipes in books. I like to change them up. My omelett was one whole egg with 3 egg whites and about 1/2 cup frozen spinach with spices. It was great. I also added some salsa I'm not sure if that is phase 1.

I'm having a real hard time with breakfast this morning. I have totally lost my appetite, although I am hungry, nothing sounds good. I am trying to do a week of Ph1 (Girl Scout cookie detox), and am on day 4. I've had a few strips of turkey bacon and coffee but the thought of beans, eggs, leftovers, cottage cheese, V8, all my usual stuff just turns my stomach. I had the same issue last night and ended up with cheese, hummus, and a fudgesicle for dinner. Not so balanced.

The only things that sound appealing are oatmeal or toast with peanut butter. I am not feeling so great, so I guess I need comfort food. If I can't think of a Ph1 alternative soon, I guess I'll just have the oatmeal. I am getting REALLY hungry...

Oh they are so gross, I have really tried. It bothers me to find a veggie I don't like. But I'll say it, I DON'T LIKE BRUSSELS SPROUTS!!! They were on sale at the store last week so I got some and tried them roasted. I have been gagging them down all week. Thank goodness the last of them went this morning in my scrambled eggs. It was a challenge to get those down, let me tell you. I have tried them every which way now, and that's it, no more. Next time I have some I will send them along to you two!

So this morning was scrambled eggs with sprouts and mozzarella. Ewww.

DH is a traditional breakfast person. I swear the world would come to a standstill if he didn't have coffee, juice and some kind of breakfasty thing. :D When he is out of town though, I often have whatever I want such as some leftover soup or casserole or even pizza. Good morning ladies, this morning I am having my favorite breakfast, a slice of meatloaf on toasted whole grain rye with mustard and baby spinach with a V8. I used to feel that way about eating dinner for breakfast until I started trying it. Now I prefer it, I love how it fills me up and I don't get hungry until lunchtime. The rest of the day seems to go easier too. Now for some reason I have a hard time with eggs in the morning, although I will gladly eat them at other times of the day. I think my gateway dinner breakfasts were when I started eating turkey sandwiches or refried beans for breakfast.
