I'm trying to live it. My trainer looked at the book and was like "yeah that's how EVERYBODY" should eat.

It's filled with lots of fruits and veggies, very little sugar and carbs, lean meats, and so on. I don't consider it a diet- but a new way of eating for life.

The thing I like about it (I have "The PCOS Diet" book) is that it's doable, it's not telling me to buy freeze dried food and so on :D

One thing if you feel getting out of bed is hard- do you sleep a lot and always feel tired? You may have sleep apnea- I do and got my CPAP and since then life is so great- I have so much more energy now.

I got off my metformin and spironolactone last month and since then I honestly feel better- that stuff never seemed to work for me AND I was starting to feel sick after taking met. Since that month I've only lost one additional pound- but I feel so much better eating the way I do now.

That sounds like a book I will need to pick up.
Does it also answer questions about PCOS? I was diagnosed in June after 10 years of telling Dr's that something wasn't right. My case is pretty mild from what I understand...I haven't actually gotten cysts but my testosterone levels are way out of the normal range. The Dr. that diagnosed me last year kinda made me feel bad about the weight issues and didn't answer any of my questions-I don't know how to be proactive with the disease.

beerab- YES I am tired ALL the time. I have trouble all day long, and feel like i could sleep forever. How do I find out about the sleep apnea thing?

Msahaller- You should check out the website for the book... www.ovarian-cysts-PCOS.com So far i love the book (I just started reading it yesterday). It has answered questions that my doctors have not been able to.

Go see your doctor and tell them your symptoms. When I went I told her "I always want to sleep, I could sleep 12 hours and still be tired, I NEVER feel rested, and recently my husband says I snore in my sleep and make funny noises." Ask your hubby if he notices you making noise when you are sleeping- even snoring. I hear a lot of women with PCOS have sleep apnea.

I had to fill out a questionaire and so did my husband. Then the doctor ordered a sleep test. Mine was brought to my home, and I hooked myself up to this machine that basically checked my pulse, breathing, and so on all night. The next morning I unhooked myself and they sleep people came back and within like 2 days it was confirmed. I had MILD sleep apnea.

I went in to the sleep clinic and they gave me my CPAP:

Look how small that machine is- it fits in the palm of your hand and sounds like a light fan at night- very quiet!

And mask:

My mask isn't the huge ones that go over your mouth and all- since I had mild I didn't need it- depending on how severe your apnea is they recommend the right mask for you.

They showed me how to put it on, adjusted it for me, and my machine is calibrated for my specific needs.

Every 3 months I have to order replacement masks and tubes, but insurance covered my study, my cpap, and everything, I only pay my copay once every three months for a new mask and tubing.

The first night- omg it was unbelievable- I woke up and felt so much better already! Oh and it took me a few weeks to get used to my mask- I kept knocking it off at night in my sleep then waking up and putting it back on- but eventually got used to it.

Check it out, sleep apnea gives you high blood pressure, can englarge your heart, and you can die from it :( I have a friend who I am sure has it he refuses to get help! When I was at the clinic I was told I stop breathing an average of 10 times per hour for at about 12 seconds at a time! There was a man there who stopped breathing like 30 times an hour for 30 seconds at a time! I was like dude I can't believe you aren't dead!

Good luck! Let me know what happens :D

Wow thanks so much for all the info...My doc is supposed call me in the morning because they are also going to test my thyroid again. I will definitely talk to her about it. I really just want to get better.

You are welcome- oh and before I had never snored in my life- I started doing it and my husband just never told me (he waits almost a YEAR!!)- guess he thought I'd be embarassed or something.

Hope it all works out- insist on a test I say. Some doctor's don't seem to want to check up on anything!

What does the PCOS diet focus on? I also have IC (Interstitial Cystitis) and there are certain foods that I can't eat, because it can cause flare-ups.
