for some sort of small device I can use to listen to music to while I walk. I have a clunky old cassette player, but that thing really doen't work all that well... and I thought perhaps you folks that are more into the newest techy gadgets might be able to recommend something for me. I would love to download some great upbeat Praise and Worship to walk with.

Anyone?

Thanks,
CAT

What's your price range? That'll help us!

I'm biased so I'll say ipod. There are many different models that can fit anybodies price range. They are great little devices.

I might be a bit biased too, but another vote for an iPod here. I love mine, I can listen to upbeat music while I'm walking, download and listen to podcasts while I'm walking, or just wear it and sing horribly offkey and very loud while I steam clean the carpet. ;)

Ipod! It's the best thing around and now stupidly expensive

Ipods are great, but they can be a bit pricey. You can get almost the exact same thing for about $20-30 at Walmart, Staples, Best Buy, etc. Just ask the clerk for a low-price MP3 player (which is what an Ipod is basically). For most people, 1GB is more than enough memory (hours and hours of music, over 150 normal songs on mine).

You don't have to worry about getting an expensive one, because they aren't necessarily nicer, they just have more memory, which isn't really necessary for the average person. A lot of them also play the radio.

Plus, with the Ipod shuffle, there's no screen telling you what song is playing, so you can't decide what you want to listen to.

I have a Zen Micro. It's an awesome little device, I like it better than an IPod.

Agreed, something like an iPod but not branded iPod if money is an issue. Figure $30-40 for something decent.

Look for Flash memory rather than a hard disk if it's going to get bounced around. (The tradeoff is smaller size and better functionality in running/jostling-type use versus greater storage capacity for the money.)

Another vote for the iPod, which I love because my entire music collection is all on one tiny device - I can never decide what I want to listen to until right when I want to listen to it.

BUT, regardless of what device you go for, good earphones are a MUST. I cannot say this stronly enough. If your earphones aren't comfortable (and the ones that came with my iPod definitely were not) you're not going to have a satisfactory experience. I have in-ear Shure earphones, which were pricey ($80 on Amazon) but so worth it. They're comfortable, stay in when I exercise, and give great sound quality. I've had them for 3 years, had to return them after a year because of a defect, and had them replaced for free. Love them.

i choose the shuffle because its small, I don't need a screen, and I absolutely cant stand to wear anything on my arm. I love clipping the shuffle to what ever place I choose.

I didn't like my first set of earphones either but I picked up some pink Skull Candy ones yesterday for $10 at Marshall's. They are very comfy and stayed in place during my 20K today.

I have a Sony MP3 player which is a little annoying since I have to use their software to load the music. DS has a refurb SANSA from woot that was $15 and it loads just like any flash drive. -Much easier to deal with!!

I love my Sansa Fuze. The cost vs storage amount is less than the Ipod. It even has an expansion slot that accepts microSDHC cards so you can add storage. In addition to music, I use it for audio books. The downside is that it does not work with itunes. I download MP3s and can drag and drop them into my Fuze. It also works with Audible where I get most of my audio books.

I got the IPod shuffle first and love it! DH got me a Nano for Christmas - it is really good - but I am having a problem with the arm band.... I think I got spoiled by the clip on my shuffle... So honestly - for workouts - I love my shuffle.... I like my Nike head phones best, they are the ones for running, very durable and don't fall or slip ever, they are the ones that rest behind your head. Those are great - they run about $20, but in my opinion totally worth it!

i totally have to agree with the sansa products. i had an ipod and that thing did not stand up to my way of handling things and had sucky battery life. i got a sansa c250 i think it was and i LOVE that thing! i've charged it up and accidentally left it in my car overnight while still on and it still had about half a battery left! its ridiculous! i also love that it has radio because listening to all my stuff day in and day out can get a little annoying. the expandable memory is also a big plus for the price. right now mine is looking kinda beat up so im gonna upgrade to the fuze cuz that baby looks sweet.

I have an iPod myself and I'm very tempted to say iPod... BUT it's actually quite unfriendly to new users, plus its pricey. It depends on your needs, I'd say.

What kind of workout person are you? If you like to jog outdoors, do more cardio work and have a range of purposes in mind you can consider iPod since my favorite function is that it has podcasts (radio programs that you can download and listen to anytime, anywhere).

If you just want a few songs for your gym workout, 30 min to an hour a day, I think a regular mp3 player between $20-$30 would serve your needs quite well.

I use my iPhone as an iPod & love it! I've dropped in the toilet ( don't ask!) and in the dog water bowl and it's working like new. I've had other mp3 players and they've never lasted me this long.

Budget wise any mp3 player will work. My other one I really liked was a Rio.

Thank you all for all the recommendations.... I think I will check out the ones at WalMart... I don't need to be "branded" or anything so that just might be perfect for me.

God Bless You,

I have an iPod and love it, DH has a Sansa and loves it. :) there are many options. Earphones are way important, though, absolutely. I have crummy earphones right now and have to wind them through my headband to get them to stay in my ears... :(

I have a Sansa clip and I love it. I paid 30.00 for it. It also has an FM tuner which is really nice in the gym. When I use it just at the gym, I have to charge it once every 3-4 weeks!

It comes in pretty colors too.. mine is blue! :-)
