Hey, Chickies! I thought we'd be up and running by now! ;)
I had problems getting my internet up this morning, that's why I'm so late. It may have been weather-related, since you can't see past the end of your nose outside. At least it's not doing anything wet out there today.
I'm going to be spending the morning with a friend who had a shoulder replacement. She's been trying to cope on her own, but finally admitted she needs a little help, so I volunteered to give her house a good cleaning this morning. Maggie and I have a pleasant afternoon at the library planned, so it's looking to be a good day. I can feel the threat of a cold coming on, and had a sore throat last night, so I'll be trying to fight that off today, as well.
One more week of February, then hopefully March will come in like a lamb and stay that way. :crossed:

Good morning all!
Cottage - DId you have any withdrawal symptoms from probs with the internet ;). Nice of you to spend some time with your friend!
Me - Inspection on the house today! This will determine if we get it or not. I'm scared and excited all at the same time. Otherwise, normal long day at work (except I'm working on a snake....I don't dislike them, but they're not high on my scale of 'likes' either).
Hope y'all are doing well!

A snake! :fr: :fr: :fr:!!!! I can deal with spiders and any other kind of creepy crawlies, but snakes scare the daylights out of me! I can' even look at one in a book, and when we go to the zoo, I take a wide berth around the reptile house. Ummm, have fun, Twynne, but be careful! I hope the house inspection goes well!

Good morning, ladies. I am mainlining my first cup here, kinda headachey, but I deserve it (cookies, 'nuff said).
DH's ship got "activated", meaning he'll be away for the next week, floating around the bay, making sure everything works. At least it's not a real emergency. Only problem is, he was supposed to pick up my new living room furniture on Saturday, but I haven't heard from the warehouse yet, so maybe that's not going to be an issue. It was actually supposed to be in Feb 2. Does 3 months seem like a ridiculously long time to wait for furniture? I'm not in the habit of buying much new furniture I guess, so I'm not sure.
I don't mind snakes, I think they're kind of cool. My brother kept them when I was a kid. Now, the rats would get to me. I can't believe people keep mice and rats as pets. I should talk, we do have hamsters...
I'm babbling, guess I don't have much to talk about today.
ETA: Meant to wish you luck on the inspection Twynn!

Quickie this morning as I slept until seven. No noise from Jazz last night at all which was nice. The back room was very warm from the woodstove at bedtime so he and Disney were in a heat induced stupor, I guess.
We have puffy Christmas snow falling right now but it's pretty mild at 33ºF. I just lugged the trash out to the road and wondered why nobody else had done the same. I just realized there's no collection today because of a stat holiday Monday so will lug it back before I take off for town. Grrr!
I'm off for my eye test and will get new frames too. I'm still wearing the ones Lucy chewed back in Sept. 2007! I guess it's time.
See you all later.
ETA:
Cottage, as I told you before, you are a gem!
TwynnB, I actually like snakes and think they are very pretty.
Schmoodle, seems like a long time for me. You could have made twig furniture by now. I hope you continue to feel better.

Oh, Cottage, I'm with you about snakes! My husband tries to teach our son the difference between good snakes and bad snakes. I tell him, "RUN!!!" Nothing like blatant fear. :) Have fun helping your friend. I know she'll appreciate it.
Twynn, good luck with the inspection AND the snake.
Not much exciting here today. It's cold again. We had storms yesterday, even got hail! But, thankfully, no tornadoes here. There were funnel cloud sightings in Birmingham.
DH informed me that he was out of socks. I went to his side of the bed and, no joke, there was a pile of socks -- probably 10 pair. I told him that they are more likely to get washed if he put them in the laundry pile. It's really not so hard. Sheesh! I want you to know, when Auston gets married, he's going to be a prize! He already puts his clothes in the laundry. He can put away laundry, help unload the dishwasher, and put his dishes by the sink after meals. Will he forget such things when he hits puberty? MEN!
Anyway -- that's my rant for the day. Off to take Auston to school... then the laundry. :)

Chelby, it has to be a mental block with some men. :dizzy: Jake can't seem to figure out what the clothes hamper is for, either. And in my opinion, there's no such thing as a bad snake or a good one, they're all bad!
Ruth, I hope you pick out a spiffy new pair of glasses. What color are you going with this time? Just don't make them too appetizing for Disney and Jazz!
Schmoodle, I hope your sugar-induced headache eases up soon! Those GS cookies just don't appeal to me, I don't think they're as good as they were years ago. The Thin Mints used to be my favorites, but I don't care for them at all now. That is a long time to have to wait for your furniture, ours was supposed to take 6-8 weeks, but we got it delivered in 4. :)
Well, it's time for me to get on with my day! Hope you all have a great one!

Good morning Chicks
Cottage - My friend just had shoulder surgery and has had a heck of a time. I can't imagine how much harder a replacement must be. She's lucky to have such a good friend nearby.
Twynn - Hope all goes well with the house. When do we get to see pics?!
Schmoodle - It does seem like it's been forever that you've been trying to get the furniture set. I sure hope it gets to your house soon!
Ruth - How nice of the doggies to let you sleep in today. We have the fluffy snow too. It's pretty but I'm tired of it and ready for spring. Have fun glass shopping :)
Chelby - Watch out - my Mom is afraid of snakes and when I was a kid I would catch small ones, wrap them around my wrist and go in the house to show mom my new bracelet. For some reason kids like that stuff ;)
I had planned a WAH day today knowing the storm was coming and I have an appt. up here in the afternoon. I'm tempted to just make it a personal day though and try to stay off the computer an maybe even grab a nap along the way. I'll decide after my shower.
Have a good day Chicks

Happy Thursday all!
Twynn - Good luck with the inspection. What exactly do you do for a living that you're dealing with snakes?
Crazy day for me today. Take the bub to school then come home to get the house picked up for the stove delivery tomorrow, then head to painting class, pick up bub from school, pick up bigger bub from work and then head to my ceramics class. Eeek! And did I mention I have nothing in the house to eat for breakfast? Sounds like I'm heading to my fave breakfast restaurant for a veggie filled omelet.

Good morning!
Twynn - Good luck on the inspection!
Schmoodle - I hope the furniture comes in soon. 3 months sounds long to me but I haven't purchased new furniture in a awhile.
Ruth - Sorry you had to lug the garbage out in the snow! HAve a good time getting new frames though.
Chelby _ I completely understand about the sock thing. DH just dumps all of his clothes on his side of the bed and expects the maid (er...um...I mean me) to clean them up.
Cyndi - A personal day sounds nice.
stacy - Sorry the kids are sick! It makes for a not so fun day for Mom! I hope she feels better.
Mom - Enjoy your hectic day!
I, too, have lots to do today. Many errands to run and that is not easy with a 3 year old, a two year old, and an 8 month old. Hopefully we will get through it without too much whining. Tonight I have my weight loss group. I am hoping to show some weight loss (crosses fingers).
I hope everyone has a sun shiney day!

3Sons -- You are BRAVE! When Auston was 2, we both cried in Walmart! He would act a fool and embarrass the stew out of me! Then you got the little old ladies telling me that 'I'd miss these days'. Whatever! :) Things are much better than he's beginning to understand consequences.

Why would someone use their real name in public places like facebook? I have an account and some of my relatives denied me because at first they didn't know it was me! LOL :dizzy:
Hello all... Been busy cleaning, taxes and now I'm here to create the week's menu so I can go shopping in a few here. Busy day today, going to take the pups to the park and let them run. Hope everyone is well.

Hey, girls. Just finished folding and putting away what seemed like a million articles of clothing.
About taking the kids out?...I've never really had a problem with it. Calvin knows that tantrums are completely unacceptable and have never (and will never) gotten him what he wants. All I have to do is remind him of that fact and they stop pretty abruptly. He has never been one to throw an all out tantrum, just get a little whiny. I guess I'm lucky in that respect. I actually enjoy taking the kids on errands with me. Calvin is very entertaining and makes monotonous, boring things like errands go a bit faster and with a bit more "spark"...plus, he makes people around us laugh as well.
Had a birthday party here last night. Not everything was put away but everything was set up that needed to be. It was a good time -- Calvin played with his little friend and we played board games. Quite enjoyable.
Alright...time to move on to the next task.
Twynn - Good luck with your inspection, dear!

My boys are pretty good in the store. They know that they always need to be in my sight. We usually talk before hand what we will be buying and they know if they will be getting any sort of treat. Most days it is good. However, there have been times where it is CRAZY!
We got all of our chores done. The two youngest are taking a nap and the oldest is playing a computer game for 15 minutes. I should be cleaning the house but instead I am on here. This is much more fun!

when kenedie was young she was a great girl in public.... chloe and brady are only 9 1/2 months apart and argue alot. but on the same hand love each other to death. they dont get out with us much, so maybe thats why they get crazy in the store. they dont throw fits, they just want everything. it all depends on my mood too. if i remain calm, then so do they.... unfortunately im nt calm lol... im rather hyper and high strung lol.. can ya tell?? lol.... i went from having one child and single to married with 6 kids in just a few years. its been tough. then my mom and dad's health isnt the best. mom is a breast cancer survivor. just have alot on my mind, and i let it get to me. i worry too much.,.. about everything. i tell myself that i cant do that, we cant control everything but i dont listen very well lol....sorry gals, just in one of those moods and unloading on ya'll.... talk later..

Lots of people were not happy to come to work today and find out pay is being cut 5%. They are also reducing the 401K matching so I'm reducing my contributions by 2% so it won't be so bad.
I just got a call from my district guy saying I need to cut my camp budget by $2,000. I sure hope he comes through with getting the other programs to help pay for stuff otherwise we will be over budget after camp. He tried to tell me to get less port-a-potties but I quoted state rules on that one so he had to back down.
Work just got busy so I'd better go now.

Pearl -- I'm so sorry about your dog.
Barb -- Cutting potties? Tell him you can cut the men's potties. They can use trees! :)
Chelby - This is Cub Scout camp. I would not want to do anything to discourage the boys from using the potties. The city would not like what boys could do to their trees and the boys would think it was fun. :yikes: Past experience has shown that clean port-a-potties make a big difference in getting the moms to come back with the boys the next year.
Chelby29

Barb -- We live in the 'woods'. Auston thinks that pottying outside is big fun. We had to teach him that what he can do at home, he can't do in town. We were at a yard sale in Birmingham. I looked up and saw him with his pants around his ankles. NOOOOO!!!! But, you are right. THIS mom needs a real potty. :) I hope Auston wants to be in Cub Scouts when he gets older. He's in 4K now. I loved being a Brownie.

lololol chelby!! must be a redneck thing! last summer i caught brady peeing up against the neighbours house!! i was so embarassed but inside i was laughing my butt off. (just like his daddy);) lol... and no we didnt wait the recommended 6 weeks... chloe was such and easy birth, puched once, she came out, one stitch, was showered and ready to go home 3 hours later. but drs wouldnt let me lol... took her to walmart the next day... she was 31 hours old lol!! ppl were looking at me like i was mad (crazy). brady was another story... emergency c-sec, we both almost died. very scary. savvy was planned c-sec, preemie, scary again. but they all healthy now.. we thought brady was going to be challanged becuz his air was cut off from the cord being wrapped around his little neck, his apgar score was only 3... but here he is in junior kindergarten and his teacher says hes very very bright. we had an idea tho, he could work the tv, vcr, and dvd b4 i could lololol... still does it better than me lol. i should try and scan some of the drawings that this boy does. he has one heck of an eye for detail. its almost scary. geez here i go getting carried away again. sorry ..

okay.. heres my kids... (step daughter) samantha 17, (step son- no longer living at home, long story) john jr 16, (from my first marriage) kenedie 11- 12 in may, then me and john have chloe 5, brady 4- 5 in june, and baby savannah (savvy) is 18 months. and in between brady and savvy i lost a baby at about 10-12 weeks pregnant, we named her dakota. ah the way i try to look at things is everything happens for a reason. not always sure why but there is a reason. when i lost dakota, i lost my mind. talk about a mess. then i got preg with savvy... at 10 weeks i started bleeding and thought that once again i was losing a baby... only to find out that the heartbeat was 154 and strong... i was amazed. i went all weekend in mourning to find out monday that the baby was fine.... theres a reason for savannah being here. might not know it yet but i believe theres a reason. im not overly religious by any stretch but i do believe in this. my mom always says "youre never given more than you can handle" lol there are days that i think thats a load of crap but then at night when youre laying in bed, you think, well i made it through another day lol... and we're all safe and healthy. thats the end of my speeches for today lol i think...

late check in again. I don't know what I did before DH retired. Today we drove to an exotic lumber place about 1 1/2hrs west to get some wood. DH got oak and cherry (in the rough) to make a rocking horse for our grandson. Supposedly it will be ready for his 2nd birthday at the end of August.
Did my little eye spy Ruth on TV waving at Pres. Obama? He was in Ottawa today. Just kidding Ruth.
Cottage - do you add the chopped apple to the oatmeal before or after cooking? I have done it both ways, but just want an opinion from the experts.
Its been a pretty on plan week, hope it lasts thru the weekend.

It is definitely a man thing. My husband mentioned that he was upset that he couldn't pee outside now that we live in the suburbs. I just stared at him. Who would think that a man with so much talent and education would still think that peeing outside was fun.
There are just some things about men that I will *never* understand.

02-19-2009, 06:32 PM
Zeff, men aren't made to be understood. ;)
Sophie, I'm sure no expert! But I like my oatmeal best cooked on the stovetop, and I toss the apple in about a minute before it's done. Then I let the oatmeal sit for about 10 minutes to absorb all the liquid, as I don't like it creamy. I don't lke my apples to get soft and mushy, either. I like a bit of a bite to them.
Pearlrose, I'm sorry about your dog.
I've enjoyed hearing you girls talk about your children. :) I've never had a problem taking mine out in public. They knew what was and wasn't acceptable, and bad behavior had consequences. I still get compliments on how well behaved kids are when they're out with me.
