View Full Version : Weigh-in Routines?

I'm betting there's been other threads about this, but I couldn't find any, so here it is.... what silly things do you do before your official weigh-in? I've got such a long list at this point that my meeting leader laughs at me for it, and I'm sure she's seen everything. :D

So of course I wear my lightest pants, socks, and shirts for meetings, and I empty my pockets and take off my shoes. It's like going to the airport! :D

I don't eat or drink anything the morning of (and of course I only go to morning meetings!), and make sure I use the bathroom right before I head to the scale. Can't have any extra ounces! ;)

In the last few weeks I've started going for a 1-2 mile hard run in the morning before meetings, inspired by the Biggest Loser "last chance workout". I can easily sweat out 2 pounds of water on a run, according to my home scale. Now of course I *have* to do this every week, or else I'll see the scale mysteriously jump up 2 pounds. D'oh! :p

Aaaaand.... when I'm on the scale itself, I breathe out and hold my breath. Hey, all that air in your lungs has to weigh something, right? :D Or maybe it's just that I'm nervous.

How about y'all? Anyone have any other superstitious routines I can get into? :D

That describes my routine pretty well, too. Not a stitch on, after a bathroom trip & before I've even had a glass of water. With coffee brewing in the next room. Oh, and I step on the scale three times. (I have a new scale & the reading doesn't vary, as long as I'm correctly balanced.) I need to see it three times to convince myself it's accurate. (Kind of the way a dog turns around three times before laying down for a nap.)

MAJOR TMI ALERT .... ALERT ... ALERT ...

If my bowels aren't empty & I just have to weigh in before they decide to do their thing -- because one must get ready for work & cannot tell one's supervisor, "I'm late because I couldn't s --- on time this morning" -- then I consider the weight that I record in my journal deeply suspect. I have to be "empty." My body is a creature of habit that tends to follow to its regular schedule but sometimes, when it doesn't happen, then it really messes me up mentally. I have to put an asterisk next to the day's weight, like some kind of footnote in a sports record book saying the athlete did this on steroids or it was later disregarded by the Olympic Committee or something.

I do all of the above! I wear the same outfit for every weigh in, only go to morning meetings, and go to the washroom first. Sometimes I wonder if the ladies at WW think I only have one outfit! And I breathe out and hold my breath while on the scale! I wondered if anyone else did that... :D

P.S. Saef, you're hilarious!

You all will probably think this is silly, but I have my regular meals and drinks and weigh in after supper wearing whatever I wore to work that day. I am not a number on the scale. The lifestyle changes are what matters in the long run.

Quilter-that's a good way to look at it and probably a more accurate number too but I do it naked, after peeing, before eating, after a shower (I seem to wash away a few ounces in the shower LOL), and usually about 45 minutes after I get up.

Just wanted to say Hey to Quilter. I've seen you on these boards a long time and just checked your stats. WOW! Great job! 8lbs to go. Quite an inspriation to the rest of us!
Ditto weigh in routine. I wore my lightest clothes today and realized I'll have to do the same every week from now on. Also take off all jewelry, watch and rings and even took glasses off today :)

Hilarious that so many of us do the same thing! I weigh in on Saturday mornings. I don't have a Friday night ritual, but on Saturday mornings I use the bathroom (potential TMI, so I'll leave it as that), wear the same khaki pants with a t-shirt, and go to weigh in. I bring my breakfast with me (usually an apple and clif kidz bar) and water, and wait to eat until I've weighed in.

I'm all about the consistency!

I wear basically the same type of clothes at every WI and will eat breakfast after the meeting (I go to a 8:30am meeting every Saturday) :)

I love seeing this! I'm the same way - although I did get upset last week when I was 4/10 of a pound away from the 40-pound mark. I've even been told by the person weighing me to take off my sweater because it just doesn't occur to me. I also refuse to step on the scale barefoot because I've just watched everyone in front of me do so (no offense meant to anyone).

lololol my hubbys sitting here playin xbox live and im readiing this thread and im laughing so hard he told me to shhhh lol!!! i do the same as ya'll do! i thought i was the only one! ive....
blown my nose first
pass gas (gotta weigh something right?)
strip naked
take scrunchie outta my hair
potty
heck i'd even trim my nails and shave my legs if it meant the scale moving lol

i JUST posted somewhere else in here about the nightly meetings and weighin more after a day of eating and drinkin and then i found this thread. ive decided to join the WW meetings... gotta wait till the finances allow it. in about 2 weeks. its gonna be my late mothers day prezzie lol... im thrilled and cant wait. i need the pressure of having someone to answer to other than myself. oh! and i wont weigh after a shower, my hair is wet and the water does weigh something... lol... at least i feel normal now lmao
and about the journaling thing... i do it faithfully every night. i have a box that i tick for BM... because if i havent went in that day and sometimes the next day, the scales shows it. i was on south beach and had a real problem with that, now on WW its not a problem TMI lol

I used to have massive rituals before my weekly weigh-in -- I started off weighing in jeans, then I thought I'd have a bad week, so I changed to lighter pants one week, then I HAD to weigh in those lighter pants until I thought I'd have a bad weigh-in, so I changed to workout thermal spandex, and then down to light spandex, and now I'm in spandex shorts. I started with a nice blouse and sweater, then just a blouse, then down to a short-sleeved shirt, then down to a tank, and now I'm down to the thinnest spandex-type high-cut tank top. So every time I weigh in, I STRIP DOWN to the spandex shorts and spandex tank as I wear this under my regular clothes (wouldn't be caught DEAD in these in public!!!). No shoes, no handbag.
Now that summer is here, I fear the socks may have to go...
I eat in the morning, have no lunch, weigh in on Wednesdays at 5:30pm, then have supper after my meeting...
And no water that day, except for 1 litre 1st thing in the morning after Hot Yoga...
Yikes! I sound like a nutbar!!!

no kira you dont sound like a nutbar at all.... we are all in the same flippin boat and all starving for the attention we will get after reaching goal. none of us like to be over weight. we all want the same goal, and no matter how loose your jeans are getting, the scale is the item we turn to for satifaction. its pathetic i know. cuz seriously 3 lbs in one week isnt gonna make that much of a difference but here we are flipping out over it. and if we gain a lb, heaven forbid, its a ruined and terrible day for us.... dont ya'll find that the morning numbers affect our moods??? i know mine does. like this mornin, the scale was up, because TOM is comin 2moro, i know this. but i was still a wee bit upset. ugh oh well such is life lol...

I'm loving these, and may adopt a few of them myself. I don't have any yet, as I have only had 2 WW weigh ins, we'll see how the third turns out on Thursday evening, I hit a meeting before dinner.

I always wear the same clothes (and thinking back, at my first meeting, I should've worn a bulky sweater and heavy jeans!), and I go at 8am so I don't eat or drink before the meeting. I also try to eat high fiber foods the night before (like a high fiber cereal Or all bran crackers) so I can be sure to 'eliminate' before the meeting! Then after the WI I eat my little breakfast, because I go straight from the meeting to the gym.

I also refuse to step on the scale barefoot because I've just watched everyone in front of me do so (no offense meant to anyone).

Don't they have paper towels? At my meeting location, there are notices that you can not (per the health dept) stand on the scale barefoot, so you can either stand on a paper towel, or wear socks or flip-flops if you don't want to wear your regular shoes.

I thought I was the only one! I also wear the same clothes to every meeting. In the back of my mind I'm starting to wonder if others have noticed this. lol I do drink that one cup of coffee (and "only" one!) before the weigh in. It bothers me to do it, but as a caffeine fiend, I can't give that up.

Another little ritual of mine is to wear my contact lenses instead of my glasses (which I wear any other day) so I don't have the extra weight on my face! lol
