FYI, I generally won't watch a movie clip unless i know what it is first. I didn't watch it all, I just wanted to see what it was.
For others, its Selma Hayak breastfeeding a starving baby.
I think its a bit odd personally and would've rather seen some formula handed out. I know breastfeeding is healthy but passing your breast milk onto someone elses baby is kind of odd. I always thought the concept of a 'wet nurse' was odd though so...
It's very thought provoking. She mentioned that her grandmother helped a woman on the side of the road whose infant was hungry and she didn't have any milk left.
The wet nurse concept is "odd" to me too, but that's probably because of how uncommon it is in today's society (although milk banks are becoming popular, I hear). I'm sure it's a common practice in many cultures and I don't see why it wouldn't be- though it may not be particularly safe.
JuliaDH, in regards to not saying what the video was about...you could go back and edit your post, if you wanted to. Although at this point, people can figure out what it is by scrolling down. Not a big deal.
I think it's wonderful. Hungry baby needs food, and she responds immediately -- what could be better? Formula is NEVER a better option than human milk, whether the milk is from the baby's biological mother or not. I never would have known that before I started breastfeeding myself and read tons about it. There's SO much misinformation about it, it drives me a little crazy sometimes.
I have no problem with it whatsoever. In Africa and in some other cultures, women feed each other's children as a matter of necessity. No biggy. I would give another child my own breastmilk and if I know a woman well enough (such as my sister or something) I would have allowed my child to nurse from someone else too.

I don't think formula is a better option than human milk. As I said I think its an odd concept and granted I didn't watch the full clip (I'm at work). I would think that yes you can feed a hungry baby with your own milk but you can only feed so many children. If there are tons of hungry children, then I think handing out formula (mixed with clean water of course) would be an option.
