Maria what a girl you are starting a new thread for us. Even when you are working. You are spoiling us. How did your 4 wheeling go? I bet it was fun. Had a rather quiet weekend. Went to see my sister in a tap dancing thingy. She is 74 and has her wrist in a cast but the show went on. It was National Tap Day and there are different groups that get together and put on demonstrations. She has been taking lessons but she danced in high school a million years ago. [Don't tell her I said that.] Tap looks like fun and I would like to try it. My dh groaned and said that he would have to go watch both of us then. Just got home from a birthday celebration. Hope you all had a nice weekend.

Maria: Alas they are making you work? Talk to them! :) Hows was the 4 wheeling?

Peggy: I use to tap dance about 5 million years ago. Took lessons when I was a little girl:) It was fun. But the show was good!

Been a busy weekend. Trying to get my spring cleaning done. Hate to do it but you just got to give in sometime.

Later!

G'day all,

It is now lunch time and boy have I been busy!

Did the bit of work as required :dizzy: and then I thought I would see if my work computer will allow me to upload some photo's to my photo album (it does not allow me to upload web pages :( )
And it did!!!!

We had a fantastic weekend, a bit scary at times but it was great. The scenery was breath taking, the company was great but it was VERY cold.
And if you wish you can get an idea of the fun we had by going to where I posted some of the photo's we took

http://www.picturetrail.com/flaggies

I hope you like them.

We met a couple who had toured through Canada. Their trip sounded excellent and they will give us the contacts of the people who organised their itinary in Canada. She also lend me a very warm jacket that she bought whilst they were in Canada, so Slavika and Trudy I though of you both whilst wearing this very warm jacket :)

Have a great day all, I better go and have some lunch now, with all this excitement I have not had anything since breakfast :)

Cheers
Maria

We have had two days of good soaking rain. Great!

Maria: great pictures, but I'm glad I didn't have to negotiate that bridge. I would have been in the drink! It must have been a very interesting course.

Slavika: Ran into my first bathroom problem. Went to order the border and it will not be available for 2 weeks, and we won't be home to receive it, so instead of getting it all finished I have to wait until we get back in July.:(

Peggy: We have a neighbor who tap dances around at nursing homes and she is in her 70's Good exercise. I used to take lessons when I was just a child, but never kept it up at all.

Have been enjoying the retrospectives of a couple of our favorite T.V. shows. Mash and the Cosby Show. A lot of laughs.

Hi everyone. Hope you had a great weekend. Ann

Maria: Great Pics! Beautiful Country! Im with Ann on the bridge tho. Think I would of gotten out and walked across. Looks spooky! How was that mud getting across?

Ann: Raining here to. Was so pretty last week and then yesterday its back to cold and rainy. Left the house in a short sleeve dress. Had to come home and change becuase I was so cold! :) Sorry to hear about the border not being available. But it will be pretty once you get it up.
Love those 2 shows to! They dont have alot of those kind on anymore :(

Best get to work. Im running behind...

G'day all,

Back down to earth again after our very hectic but enjoyable weekend. I thought I was getting a cold or something last night but after an early night, I feel fine this morning:)

The negotiating of the 'bridge' and the mud was not quite as difficult as it seems. We (perhaps I ;) )would have panicked if we were to have come across it on our own but with the guides directing us and firstly explaining what to look for and to how to best tackle it, it was a bit 'hairy' but OK.
I have booked a couple of one day trips, one in sand driving and another for the experienced 4x4 wheel driver 'to challenge your driving skills'. By then we would have done our advanced course and should be OK.

Ann isn't that annoying when you have your mind set on something and then you find you have to wait for it
I used to love Mash, I saw a documentary on Alan Alda the other night, didn't realise how talented he was in so many areas.

Sydney doesn't know what hit them, a cold snap, the maximum was 15 degrees. I know some of you will probably think that is quite laughable. I have no winter clothes with me, just a couple of jackets that I wear to work, hopefully this 'cold snap' will soon be over. It is a beautiful sunny day today.

Have a great day/night all
Cheers

I bet you are having a ball 4 wheeling. The bridge did look a little scary but fun. You will be so experienced soon. I hope you are staying warm. I am not. It has been freezing at night and this is supposed to be spring. It is almost the end of May and it should be hot. Goofy weather. My exercise is putting my plants out in the day and then putting them on the porch at night. Ann I missed those shows the other night. I liked Mash. What does your border look like. You all have shamed me into putting up my kitchen border. It is just in one spot over the sink. It is a Mary Engelbreit one. I love her stuff. I must have missed something. I know you are going to a graduation but where else are you going to be gone so long? Lily don't wear yourself out cleaning - it justs gets dirty again. A vicious cycle. Where are Trudy, Slavika and Karen and Glenda?

Haven't told you all about my great weekend. We got Austin Friday night and had him until Sunday afternoon. I just enjoyed the whole time. He plays so hard and he sleeps so hard. Had to put everything up in my house (which is a lot) so he wouldn't get hurt. He is into everything. Leon and I played ball and with toys and took him outside. He isn't walking yet so he crawled with his butt straight up in the air and didn't touch his knees to the grass. He is so much fun! My best friend had her grandson who is about 5 months older than Austin and we took pictures of them together. She can put pictures together on her computer and decorate and put words around them. She put pictures of our sons (who were about the same age and friends) and grandsons with the theme "The circle of life." Pretty neat!

Well, I have no idea why, maybe some of you can relate, I have felt anxious this week. Maybe just tired. Once in awhile I do this--have to stop listening to the news.

Peggy, I would love to see your house with its crafting ideas. And Ann, I bet your bathroom will be neat. If you get the neutral under colors, you can change colors fairly inexpensively.

I am very much in awe of anybody over 70 taking tap dancing. That looks pretty strenuous and fun and spunky.

Maria, looked at your pictures and I am in awe totally. But we drive a Buick. If we faced that kind of stuff, we would call Triple A.

Hi Everybody We took the little Princess with us when we went to our friends for the BBQ/swim/fireworks. Our grandson was away at a friends for a sleep-over (not sure why it's called a SLEEP over, they stay up as long as possible. :D :D We had a nice time at our friends and the little one really enjoyed herself. When it came time to watch the fireworks though, it was really cold. I think that's the coldest it's ever been for the May long weekend. The fellow that was hired to put on the fireworks display makes his own fireworks and shoots them out of a small cannon. Our friends told us they think he learned his skills in prison. LOL LOL :dizzy:
On Sunday I cooked mussels again for dinner for DH and myself and a short while later he was feeling quite sick in his stomach. He did not bring up, but did feel nauseated and spent a lot of time in the bathroom. Monday was the holiday, and he still wasn't feeling too good, and spent most of the day sleeping off and on. We now think that maybe he didn't have food poisoning but had a flu. He went to work a little later this morning, and he may be home a little earlier too, but said he was feeling better.
I cancelled having tea time, because I wasn't sure if DH would be home sick or not and I had a lot of things to get done today that I didn't yesterday. I miss not having the gals here on a Tuesday.:( Peggy with our weather being so cold at night I did not get any plants yet and certainly have not put in my garden. What a strange year we seem to be having. I'm sorry I missed the Mash show too, I really enjoyed that series. How long was the series on for?? Maria I had a look at your pictures from your 4x4 course. Since I seem to have trouble getting into my own garage I don't think I would have tried the bridge or for that matter the mud....:^: Ann to bad about the wait for the wall paper border. I know how it is, once you getting going on something you just want to get it finished.
Lily looks like you are getting the same kind of strange weather as we Canadians are. Even last winter in Hawaii, it was colder then usual. :(
Well better get going and do some of my stuff....talk to you all later. :)

G'day all,

Sounds like everyone had a great weekend albeit a cold one!

Peggy I had a look at the website of Mary Engelbreit, lovely gear. It also prompted me to check out the website of one of my favourite artists, Marjolein Bastin, I have done about 5 of her cross-stitch designs and on having a browse around at the various web sites that sell her stuff, made me want to do another! This is one of the sites that sell her stuff

http://home.pacbell.net/andrea/marjolein.html

Glenda isn't it fun the things you can do with computers:) You are obviously not sick of looking after Austin :D
I am a little with you (try not to be) with a general uneasiness with some of the news reports coming from America.
Guess there is not a great deal we can do as to what is or might happen in the world.

Slavika Hope your dh is feeling better again. I never get sick of fire works though I also feel a bit that it is money being shot up in the sky. Where we live there are fireworks just about every second weekend, no idea why but they are very pretty.

Hi to everyone else, Trudy I know you have not been well but we do miss your posts :)

Have a great day/night all

Well bathroom one is finished! Border and all. Decided to go and look somewhere else to see if I could find something I liked just as well, and I did :D:. So it is all finished. My dh thinks the border is too wide, but I like it. So what else is new? Now I am starting on the Master bath. That is going to be Icy Mauve. A very pale color. But a nice change.

Glenda: Grandkids are such fun. That is one thing I miss about being away from family, but now ours are all older.

Peggy: Glad I inspired you to do the border. After the graduation in Maryland, we are going on to Maine, and then over into New York to visit family and friends. We are leaving about the 3rd of June and won't get back home before the middle of July. I am really getting tired of making these long trips, and hope that when we have another graduation, we will be able to fly.

Slavika: Sorry your dh wasn't feeling well. But you are probably right, the flu, since you didn't get sick.

Maria: 15 degrees celcius? I always have to think about the difference between celcius and faharenheit. Hope your weather has warmed up. We have had some much needed rain, but we need more to break the drought we have been experiencing.

Hi Trudy, Lily, Karen, Whats happenin'?

p.s. My oldest daughter is having a really difficult time dealing with her sisters choices. And it is making a difference in the plans to attend the graduation. Why can't life be less complicated?:(

Maria: The weather here was unreal yesterday. we had tornado warnings, Then flood, then heavy hail storms warnings. Was pretty bad in some areas. Glad it didnt get around me! Was close but thank goodness not close enough.

Peggy: you are right it does get dirty again :( ALAS! Do the border. I love Mary Engelbreit! But Im sure with all your crafty ideas your house is well decorated and cute!

Glenda: Your weekend sounded like a perfect one to me! Sounds like you had alot of fun. You spent some quality time with the little ones :)

Slavika: Sorry you had to cancel tea :( Hope the DH is feeling better. Poor guy. I think it was the muscles :) Only cuz I dont like them

We are packing up and heading off for the weekend. Going down to Southern LA. Have some friends there and of course DH parents. So hope you all have a happy memorial weekend and a good week! See you next week!

Glad you got the border up and found something you like! All of you redecorating make me envious. Need to do something with mine.

G'day all,

No-one posted overnight, no posts for me to read this morning:(

Hope everyone is well. I am very annoyed/frustrated/angry and anything else you care for
My laptop has been playing up, it is now to the stage that it is just plain annoying. I have inch wide pink bars going vertically across my screen. I thought I will ring the Dell technicians and see what they say. The first person I had great difficulty understanding and what he said did not make a great deal of sense. I then tried to find computer repairers in the CBD of Sydney, another task that should be easy but was not. Most had no idea what I was on about. I was told several times to ring Dell again which I did. Another person and again I had difficulty understanding him. I asked him to tell me where in Sydney I could take it, he seemed to ignore that question. I asked him where he was and he was in Malaysia!!!!!
Talk about globalisation, this is ridiculous:rolleyes:
DH sent me the priority number that his firm uses (they all have Dell's) I rang that this morning and waited in queue for 23 minutes, at least the music was pleasant ;)
Spoke to someone in Sydney, yippeeee but alas the news was not good. He more or less said that it would be quite expensive to get fixed and because it is 6 years old, no guarantee that something else will not breakdown and more expense :(:(
We have been looking at new ones (dh wants one with a DVD) but I thought it would be best to wait till towards the end of our stay here in Sydney. Looks like we will have to get it now.

I would go insane in this job if I didn't have my laptop, so the sooner the better.
At least we have done all our homework but we had thought to get another Dell, after this experience, I am not so sure.

That's it from me, I feel better having vented my laptop saga..........

See ya all

Hi Everybody
Maria sorry you are having trouble with your lap top. I kind looked at some too, and they are fairly expensive. Now that DH has been able to connect to the net, I think if we go away again we'll take his with us. When DH retires, I thought perhaps he could just buy his from the bank, but by then it probably will be quite old. :( We'll just have to wait and see.
We have another really cold, dreary, rainy day here. I would like to get out into the yard, but that sure won't be for the next couple of days.
Had a nice time with my friend yesterday. I did a lot of touching and looking in the stores, but didn't find anything that I really wanted.
I made a batch of biscuits a short while ago. You make them with a tub of the light cream cheese instead of using any margarine or butter. They turned out not too bad and the count is low on them. :)
Talk to you all later.

G'day all,

Well another Friday :). Another week and it is officially winter! It really amuses me to see Sydney siders all rugged up with gloves, scarves etc. when the temperature is 17 degrees C. :D
I am making do with the clothes I have with me, so far it is OK.

We have decided to buy a new laptop for me. Slavika I agree they are expensive however it is the one thing that keeps my sanity whilst we are living this life, so for that reason worth the money. How long before your DH retires?

I have decided to write a letter to 'Mr Dell' to see if he can give me 101 reasons why I should buy a Dell. There seems to be a corporate service standard (excellent) and a service standard for people like me (extremely poor).
My job today is to write the letter and to back up all my files before my laptop gives up the ghost all together.
Over the weekend we will make some descisions what and when we will buy my new laptop.
Thank goodness I still have my work computer to get on the net etc.

Have a great day/night all
Cheers

Isn't it funny how a few years ago we didn't dream of having a computer and now we couldn't live without one. It does make the world seem smaller doesn't it? And without one I wouldn't know all you wonderful ladies. Maria good luck in the search. Wonder what your answer will be from Mr. Dell. The weather has finally turned for the better here. Back to shorts although they are calling for some more rain this weekend. It is Memorial Day Weekend here so it is a 3 day holiday. We are going to my son's on Monday. They are treating us for helping with the big move. Sunday I am going to a baby shower and we are supposed to go to a fish fry at someone's house. They are at the opposite ends of each other. Now if I can manage not to eat my way through all of this  .....Have to go get ready for my morning walk and then I am off the Baby's 'R Us for a present. See you all later,

Hi all this is one of the recipes I gave out this week at my meetings. And I think I promised to post it. I also gave out the Cream Filled Strawberry one.

It's been another busy week for me. My Manager dropped in at my meeting last night. Surprise! But all went well and she enjoyed the meeting and got new recipes too. One of the new leaders has quit. So I am back to 8 meetings for a while. One of those I go and help out with the reception work so am thinking about giving that one up. I hate to do that because it is a large meeting with The leader and one experienced receptionist and one training in. But they should be able to handle it in a few weeks.

I've got a hair appointment so got to run.

Karen, the recipe looks great, but how many points is each cinnamon role? Girl, you get yourself so busy that I actually believe you may meet yourself coming or going.

I have been without one contac for 2 weeks now. I have the near-far contacs and the near one has broken, so I can't see to read unless it is really, really up close. Not a big deal until I am at work. Have ordered new contacs, but they haven't come in, so it looks like a holiday not being able to see really well. Oh well, I have backup so I can see far away in both eyes. Do you all understand that? I am actually getting bifocal contacs. Have had them before but eye doctor says that he can fit them so much better. We'll see.

Have a great holiday. We are playing in the dirt, decorating a few graves, and picnicking. Hope it will be fun.

Creamy Potato Salad

'This salad is my favorite recipe to take to cookouts and pot-luck dinners.
People always ooh and aah over its rich, creamy taste-especially after they
find out it's light. It's quick to make because there's not a lot of chopping.
I even mix the dressing ahead of time to have on hand; it'll keep for a week
in the refrigerator.'

1/4 cup chopped green onions
1 (2 ounce) jar diced pimiento, drained
1/2 cup nonfat mayonnaise
1/4 cup plain low-fat yogurt

1 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoons prepared mustard
1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon celery seeds
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder Green onion fan (optional)

Directions
1 Cut potatoes into 1/2-inch pieces; place in a medium saucepan. Add water to
cover. Bring to a boil; cover, reduce heat, and simmer 15 to 20 minutes or
until tender. Drain and cool. Combine potato, chopped green onions, and
pimiento in a large bowl; toss gently.
2 Combine mayonnaise and next 9 ingredients; stir well. Add to potato mixture,
tossing gently to coat. Cover and chill. Garnish with a green onion fan, if
desired.

G'day all,

It is saturday night and I am doing this on my new computer:) We are really bad, we were going to look around this afternoon and ended up buying this very flash Fujitsu Laptop!!!! Once we make up our mind we just go for it! It is very nice with a CD writer, DVD player and quite a bit more RAM etc.
I'll feel a little nervous taking this to work, no doubt after the first few times I'll be OK about it.
DH has been 'playing' with it the last few hours transferring files etc. over. Whilst doing that my Dell didn't play up once  We will probably give my Dell to dd, her dh is studying computer science and he maybe able to fix it. I'll wait for what 'Mr. Dell' comes up with.

I must fly and load some more software on my new computer:)

G'day all,

Where is everyone?:( :(
Hope you are all busy doing fun things.

I had a great weekend, still very excited about my new laptop!

The Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet, was in Sydney yesterday. He addressed a large crowd in the Convention Centre and this address was televised on a large screen in the park adjacent. DH and I watched part of his address. There was a huge crowd and when he finished in the convention centre a motor cade took him to where the outside crowd had gathered. It was quite moving and he certainly is an inspiring speaker.

A sad note to the weekend, ds rang to tell us that one of his football team mates was killed in a car crash. I don't know the lad however it did make us feel a bit gloomy and I keep thinking of his parents, friends etc. Such a young life, gone in just a flash:(:(

I must be off

Hi Everybody Gosh we have just a really beautiful day. The temperature is 27 C or around 82 F I think. I know that 30 C is 86 F.
I have been outside planting flowers and my little garden all day today and I was out quite a bit yesterday too. It is so nice to finally get a warm sunny day.
I guess for all you American gals this is Memorial Day. What did you all do over this weekend?
Maria good for you that you got a new laptop. In case I ever get one why did you chose a Fujitsu?
Also Maria, what's a notepad? (I think that's what they are called) Also, is a CD writer the same as a CD burner?? GEEZ I sure have a lot to learn. :)
Nothing too exciting going on with me, I'll come back later and see if anybody else posted. :)

G'day all,

I didn't realise the American girls were having a long weekend, hope you all had fun and what actually is Memorial Day??? I assume it is remembering your war heroes.

Slavika that does sound like a beautiful day, perfect temperature :)
As far as my laptop, different companies call them different things ie IBM Notebook, ThinkPad etc. mine is actually called a 'Lifebook' but my understanding is that they are all laptops.
The reason we went for Fujitsu was that it has everything we want for the price we wanted to pay ie 256 RAM (my Dell had 125 RAM). Because I do so much in Photoshop having the 256 RAM is great, we also have a 30 Gig hard drive(my Dell has a 10 Gig), probably not that necessary. The CD writer is a CD burner, so it is great to back up files, do music compilations etc. and the DVD player is something dh wanted for when we are in foreign countries we can watch DVD's. It also has something called 'Bluetooth', dh has tried to explain it but until I actually see what it does I will understand.:dizzy: DH liked the fact it was made in Japan rather than Taiwan, China etc.
We have WindowsXP loaded on it. It is quite different from Windows 98 that I had on the Dell. I haven't quite worked the advantages out yet but it seems a lot better that Windows 98.
So there you have it! I am sure your son would be able to explain all this a lot better :D
DH and I are very 'gadget orientated', we just love it and I always feel very fortunate to be living in a time when all this is within reach. When we go 4x4 wheel driving we have the laptop hooked to our GPS (Global Positioning System) and we can track exactly where we are going. We have the software of maps for the whole world, including Canada ;) so we really should never get lost, at least that is the theory:D
The other great thing is, I love always learning new 'stuff' , to be able to have a desktop computer hooked to the internet (like here at work and in the future at home) makes doing tutorials very easy and enjoyable.
Now Mr Fujitsu did not pay me to say any of these things:D, I haven't heard from Mr Dell yet re my service complaint!

I hope I have not bored any of you too much but Slavika did ask.................

It is a coolish day here today, nice for walking to work.

Have a great day all
Cheers

This was a busy Day. We started out with a Memorial Service at our flag pole, flew it half mast, until noon in Memory of all those in our park who had passed away this year. Then Breakfast, then games, and at night a picnic/covered dish supper, with Hamburgers and Hot dogs. Punch and Ice cream and all sorts of cake. Then we were entertained by our local Barbershop Chorus, a group called the Citrus Capital Chorus. They were great. Now it is bed time. Another gal and I chaired the supper, and we were busy.:spin:

Maria: your new laptop sounds really great and a bit of a challenge too. That is good since you like to learn new stuff. And Maria, you are right, Memorial Day is really to stop and honor all the veterans, living and dead. There was a wonderful program from Washington last night, with a lot of memorializing of those lost in the 9/11 tradgedy. It is a very patriotic holiday, and each town aand city celebrate it in different ways. Parades, ceremonies at cemeteries, etc.

All these recipes sound great. I've copied them and hope to give them a try. Time for bed. Hi to everyone. Tomorrow is another day. Have a good one. Ann

Maria thanks for explaining about the laptops. You are right of course, my Son probably could explain it to me but I would have to see him to do that. I think I already forgot what he taught me the last time. GEEZ.....:(
I agree, I think it's great that we are all able to sit down at our computers and get information, or send e-mails, learn new things.
It's funny, I never really thought much about getting a computer until my grandson who was I think, 5 at the time, could sit down at my Son's computer and play games on it and I didn't even know how to turn it on. :?: Ann sounds like you had a busy Memorial weekend. How was your weather? Talk to you all tomorrow. Night. :sheep:

The holiday weekend is over so now it is time to get back on track. We went to son and dil for a picnic with her parents. It was fun but hot. They do need some trees in their backyard. It is fun to see their new house slowly getting together. We bought them a garage door opener for a housewarming present so now my dh has to go install it. Son is not too good with tools and stuff. Maria your new laptop sounds wonderful. You remind me of my bil. He likes all kinds of little electronic things too. He has GPS system too. It is pretty cool. Sad to hear about the death of a young person. We are going to a spaghetti dinner tonight. It is a fund raiser for a local family. Their 17 year old son died one month after being diagnosed with cancer. He should be graduating. Time for my morning walk. See you all later,

Maria and Peggy - You all had such sad stories of young people who died so tragically. That always makes me so sad. I am sure you have heard about Oklahoma's bridge that collapsed going over the Arkansas River at Webber Falls, OK. It is part of an interstate highway. We have been on that bridge often when we were going to Arkansas to visit my uncle and never much realized it was a bridge, just 4-lanes of highway. I have thought how awful for those people to be going 75 mph and suddenly just have no highway and plunge into the river with part of the bridge coming down on them. So very sad. They have pulled 6 autos out so far and have confirmed 7 dead and they are only about halfway through. Now they just have to get the bodies out for the families. I know it could have been worse if it had happened in the afternoon. Still so sad.

On to happier things. We had a wonderful 3-day holiday. Memorial Day has never been a great holiday for me, but this year (as in umpteen previous years) we went to my husband's hometown and visited with his elderly aunt. While there, we went to the cemetery for the ceremony, honoring the veterans. Taps, Lee Greenwood's "I'm Proud to be an American" and the poems were all so much more meaningful this year. 9-11 has done many things to us and for us. I don't think I will ever take things so for granted. We also had a picnic at our son's in-laws at their ranch. It has a pond and the kids were just mudballs fishing, but had great fun. I was "stuck" with Austin. Do you think I at all minded? He is just such a joy.

Well, let's keep some uncertain families in our prayers while the bodies are recovered today. Such a senseless tragedy!
