I've always felt the WW goal weights were too low for me. Ran across this on one of the boards and copped it for us.
This URL is for a page with details about Ideal Weight calculations.
http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm
Its not a published scientific article, but it does describe the science and pseudo-science behind the history of making calculations to suggest someone's ideal weight.
I sure feel better with a goal weight of 148 rather than 105-115! 115

WOWOWOW!!! THANK YOU RUTH!!! :D I always thought that the 105-115 was TOTALLY unattainable for me at this stage of my life... you have PROVED it! Quite frankly, when I started this program (for the umpteenth time!!) I gave myself a loss goal of approx. 60 lbs........ that number is only 5 less than the "ideal" number that the link calculated for me  See, I KNEW that I'll never see 105 again in this lifetime!!

I can live with 177 way easier than 140. Thanks Roofie!!

WOW it says I should weigh 176 lbs. I'll tell you when I did weigh that I felt fat (wish I was that weight now :( ) but I can understand it. At 5'10" medium frame, I don't think I should weigh 135. I would feel good at 150 sigh ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I believe those old chart are WAY off. And they never factored in McDonalds ROFL !

Thanks Ruth, they had me at 151, sounds good to me. I think I will use that as my new goal and re evaluate when I get there.

You know what's funny?
It says 166, and that is exactly where I always landed in my pre-baby days if I didn't watch what I ate for a few months. I was a size 13 at that weight and not entirely comfortable with it. I like 150, which is still like 10 pounds higher than the insurance folks would like.
I'm 5 9" and I tend to be muscular and chesty at any weight, so 150 is comfortable.
Goal weights, so difficult to know what the "correct" number is.

Oy vey! I can handle their calculations far better than what I thought I'd have to weigh.
I wouldn't have to starve myself. And to think once, almost forty years ago, I weighed 122. Of course I did starve myself! And, you know, it wasn't worth it! My hair fell out and I looked awful.
Now they say I can weigh 163. That's attainable!

Thanks, I agree that this is more realistic than the claculations we previously used to determine ideal weights. Mine is 182 pounds
According to this I only have 76 pounds left to lose and I think that is about right. I am quiet muscular and look pretty fit at this size so I know there is no way I could get to 115-130 pounds and still look healthy. I'm going to pass this site along. it might help quite a few of us get a handle on things a bit better.

That was really interesting! It told me 166 for an ideal weight. Very interesting since I've always said 170 is my first goal and I'd get to 150 from there. Sure sounds like we all know our bodies better than the charts, huh?
Thanks Ruth.

Youknow, I alwasy said I'd be comfortable at around 155 and here my ideal is 161--not too bad!
