Hi, ladies! New walker kid on the block. I was actually looking for info on walking, as I have been walking (literally, in the streets) for fitness purposes for quite a long time. But now I have the videos and... wondering what to do with them. I first got the 4-mile challenge, and though it was quite strenuous workout, I managed to do it. Then I got the others (apart from the 5 mile). What would your advice be - how do I start? Go back to the beginning, and do 1 and 2? Or alternate? And how often? How did you get YOUR best results with it? Sorry about the many questions...
Good luck with your plans! :)

I also am new to the forum. I bought Leslie's 1 & 2 mile walk diet, then I found her WATP book at my local library. She has a great 6 week plan in there and adds strength training along the way.

Hey gang

Well "no matter what" happened yesterday morning and I did NOT walk like I said I would :( I've been having trouble with 2 teeth and I woke up with my head and mouth pounding and my jaw was swollen! I knew there was just no way I could move with Leslie and survive it.

But I just got back from walking 2 miles at the park during lunch. The sun is shining and it's about 60 degrees and I really needed the walk and the sun. I may need to do more outside walking since all I've been doing is walking with Leslie, but anyway, I got in 2 miles today :cp:

Where are all our regular walkers?

Fractal and Darin - WELCOME - it's great to have y'all here and walking with Leslie and us! we hope you'll post your miles and progress with us.

Fractal - you may just have to play around with your routine and see what works best for you - but I'm thinking if you can do the 4 mile workout then to do that when you can. Like maybe do the 4 mile one day and then the 2 mile the next. I have most of Leslie's dvds bec I need some variety so I like to alternate dvds. I cannot do the same dvd over and over day in and day out - so I would think you would do better to mix them up too but that is just me. Let us know what you're doing and how it's going.

Hope everybody is having a great :running: day!
hugs,
Cathy

I got one mile in yesterday - hard to work an exercise video in with a sick child. He is feeling better today and I did the two mile crosstrainer. This was my first time doing one of her videos with strength training and I really liked it, but it really kicked my butt! Whew! I thought I was doing good until today, but I will keep at it and it will get easier. I love my library! I was able to order 6 of her videos through inter-library loan, so I can figure out what I want to buy.

Hey Gang

I did not get up at 5 this morning and it is raining so I went to the mall during lunch and walked 45 minutes = 3 miles and I sure do feel better!

Where are all our walkers??? there can only be one slacker at a time and that has been me so where's the rest of our gang? I hope everybody isn't dealing with bugs and flu and colds and junk!!!

Darindkny - you are so right it's hard to work in exercise with a sick kid or if anybody in your house is sick. CONGRATS on getting in a mile! I say it should count for double under those circumstances ;) I sure hope your little one gets better!!! and that's awesome about the library!

hope everybody has a great :running: day!

Hi I am new to this thread. I started WATP back in Nov and then in Jan I started the C25k. So today was an off day so I popped in my 4 mile walk. I was so happy with my progress, it was almost mile 2 before I even was feeling it. So it gets to mile 3 and my dvd stops. I guess I used it too much in the past.
So I only got 2 miles in today but I am happy with the progress I have made. When I first started out I barely made it through 1 mile now I am sad that I did not get my 4 mile walk.

I guess I will be buying a replacement video. I just love these things.

Eviemc, Sorry to hear about your dvd and I know what you mean about getting the miles in. I usually walk outside, but I am not a cold lover, so all winter, I walked on my treadmill until I found WATP. Now I can walk inside anytime I feel like and it's not boring (unlike my treadmill)! Yesterday, the sun was shining and it was about 32F outside, so I tried to walk. Took about 20 minutes for me to get to an open area and I hit the wind chill, that was enough. I finally got a mile in with Leslie yesterday evening. Thanks Cathyxxx, my son is better. He did the mile with me yesterday. My plan is to get at least 1 mile in every day this week and to make at least one of those miles a strength training one.

darindkny-wow 32F today is 70F for me. I took my walk outside today as well, it is all about changing the routine for me. It works for my body and my mind. I got in 1.5 miles today in 25 mins in my hilly neighborhood. I love walking outside, I add a few inter. of jogging as well.

I am planning on getting a new dvd but I saw the walkblaster and I am very interested in it.

Hey ladies!

Hope you guys are doing well...

So here's how Jan panned out--I did 29 miles. I'm bummed that I was two miles short of my goal. But I've made up for it already. So far, for this month, I've done 14 miles :)

Hey gang

I walked 2 miles at the park during lunch :cp:

Blackdove - I think 29 miles for January is AWESOME and you are already half way there again on the 10th of the month! WOW you go girl :-)

Evie - that's awesome to get some walking done outside. I also needed some fresh air today. Actually, it feels like spring here today in LA and I enjoyed every minute of my walk. :)

hope everybody has a great :running: day!

Cathy

Thanks, cathy! Go you with your two miles and great support.

So far, the count is 19 miles for Feb :) I just feel weird doing anything less than a mile a day. If I happen to not do something one day, I'll make up for it the next day with two or three.

Hope you all feel loved today! ♥

I have been slacking big time. I put in my DVD yesterday, for the first time in weeks. I am happy to say that for the first time ever, I got through the entire 4 fast miles without taking a break! I will be attempting to do that every other day. I have a trip to Gulf Shores coming up in April and I want to be smaller!

Walk Away your Waistline
Walk Slim
5 Day Slim Down

I did two miles today of the 5 day, miles 1 and 2. I feel great!!!:D

Wow !!! You all are doing great! I made all of my days last week except for one. Things have been busy, I joined WW and got 4 fast miles, which I was able to do on Monday following the low impact part of the video. I don't think my doc will let me jog. I did 2 miles today with the stretchy band and tomorrow, I am going for 2 fast miles. I am trying for 6 out of 7 days walking this week and the sun was SHINING today! Where I live, we are lucky it comes out once a week this time of year. It was beautiful to see it! In her book, Leslie said to look for one beautiful thing a day and for me, today, it was sunshine!

I completed another 4 fast miles this morning, the low impact. I feel great! I got 2 of my aunts (in their 50's) walking so now I have to keep it up. For the first time I am making goals for next month. I want to complete 50 miles in March.

The sun is shining here and it's near 80* so I'm sure I'll be playing with the kids outside later.

I am walking every day. 1 Miles along these country roads... I love going out in the am.. and honestly... I think I am becoming addicted to my walks. LOL Some days I go a bit further and will do 2 miles or more.

Are we supposed to be keeping up with the number of miles?

I got the 1 mile power walk done today, and I got a promotion at work!! Hooray! I am trying to figure out how to set a walking goal for myself for the month of March. I don't want to set it too low, but don't want to go too high either. Any suggestions?

I only have 19.5 miles in this month. I slacked off for 6 days whiel I prepared for houseguest and one day drove to Nashville to haggle over a new car... which we purchased. I ended up missing 6 whole days of walking.. but now am back on track..
Today is a beautiful and cool frosty day in middle Tennessee, so a good walking day.

Later gators..

Did 2 fast miles today. I didn't get much sleep last night and I am tired!

Congrats on the promotion!!

This is the first time I have set a goal. I just took how many miles I normally walk a week times 4 and went from there.

I usually keep track of my pedometer steps on AOM, and I am concerned that my time may be limited until I get settled into this new position at work. So maybe I should hold off on a monthly goal until I know more. Already, I am stressing and it hasn't even started yet! Ok, deep breath... I am worried that my free time in the morning may be slashed by an hour, because of an earlier start time, but I would get out an hour earlier, so I may have to try for walking evenings. I guess I will just have to schedule it in, because I don't want to end up missing too many days walking. I just feel better after I walk. Today, I am going to try for three miles strength training. I am having a 7points brunch, so I have to work it off! I hope everyone has a great Saturday!

I got up and out early this morning to walk. :running:The weather is calling for it to turn cold with rain turning to sleet later today. It was breezy and sunny, a terrific time to walk. On the way back, I could see the steely grey, moisture laden clouds as they were crossing over the Tennessee River and heading our way.
Now the sun has disappeared and it is all overcast. But that's okay.. I walked and now am baking some whole cracked wheat bread with flax seed added. I figure if I am going to eat any bread at all, it will be a good healthy bread and I will know everything that is in it. ;)
I got a mile and a half in today.. and Lucy got to play in the creek for a few minutes.. She's such a sweet pup.. and lots of company for me on mywalks.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Hi, everyone! I've had a TERRIBLE February! I've only done 3.58 fitness miles this month--1.58 on the treadmill on the 8th and the 2 mile Big Burn today. My excuse is my kids' activities. We have been go-go-go not-stop every night, so I collapse into bed at night and just don't have the energy to get up in the morning to work out. I know, I know......excuses, excuses........

Today is my re-start day! I WILL get up tomorrow morning and do at least 1 mile!

I cleaned house for 6 hours yesterday so that was my exercise for the day!

Michele - I totally understand how it goes - sometimes life just gets in the way and as you said it's just go go go :dizzy:

I hope everybody is having a great weekend

Hi all.
I have just bought 2 of Leslie's dvd -- watp with the weighted balls 1-2 miles and then using the body band for 1, 2, 3 miles. So far I have only gotten the mile in with the weight balls without feeling like I am going to pass out. I plan on doing it again tomorrow. I can't wait to get outside with the dogs again.

Still have not replaced my videos and I so miss them. I have been walking on the treadmill, which is so boring, and outside. So far this month I have 12.35 miles. I did get a stationary spin type bike and I have put over 33 miles on it.

I am planning on ordering a video since I have been everywere to find one. Has anyone found any of the 4 miles videos locally? I know walmart has the 2.

darindkny
02-24-2009, 10:28 PM
Hi eviemc - did you check online at walmart? They have free shipping to stores now in my area. I know the dvd's are pretty much sold out here in the stores. I did get an email advertising a special on dvd's from Leslie's website. I am in training all day tomorrow, starting my day on the road at 6am, so I am hoping to fit my walk in tomorrow evening. I'm at 5 miles this week so far. I am trying to put a walking team together for the march of dimes walk in late April in my area. It's a 3.5 mile walk in our area for a good cause. Janann, keep at it. It will get easier.

Hi ladies!

Sounds like you're all doing a wonderful job!

I'm happy to report I've done 30 miles for the month, which means I've already met my monthly goal :) I still need to keep it up because I'm going to be away for a few days in March, so I want to count for that now.

Stay warm!

I'm new to this thread too. I love Leslie's videos. Amazon has a great selection if you can't find the one you want at Walmart. I never thought of setting a monthly goal for miles. That's a great idea! What's a reasonable amount, say for the month of March?
Kudos Cathy for getting up and walking at 5 am!!!

I've got my 30 miles in even though I missed 6 days of walking.. I am taking the pooches walking today, so that will give me 31 miles for February.
