Default Am i the only one who cant give up wine??

Me and my husband have one night a week without our son. Somehow everytime my son is gone I have to indulge with wine. I have been doing so good with my diet and I have been losing. I just think I would be so much better if I didn't have my couple glasses of wine a week. What do you guys do? Is it only me with this issue?

I've started drinking red wine as well, pretty frequently (1 glass a night or if I run out then a 2 a night on weekends). I guess my question is, is wine bad for you? I thought a glass of red wine a night was supposed to be good for you? What are the calories in wine? Why is it bad?

I drink red wine on Fridays and Saturdays, I do an extra workout to burn off extra calories the next morning. I like a treat at the weekends.

I'm a 50 something crashing the thread so take it for what it's worth.

I drink a glass (or even two) of red wine daily. I have incorporated it into my plan. I drink DRY red wine, which is fairly low in calories and high in antioxidants. Just remember that a serving is 3.5-4 oz. I bought little wine glasses and fill them 3/4 full which ends up being 3.5 oz. Thus, even two is about 150 calories.

Oh, and my doctor approved of my plan.

I found that having wine in the evening helped my plan more than it hurt. It was something to look forward to, and actually kept me from munchy mindless eating.

As long as you plan for the wine, and it stays at a glass or two, you can definitely lose weight while keeping wine in your diet.

I'm living proof.

i gave up the booze just under 17 months ago when i tried atkins. and i've stayed off it since than not had a drop.

its very hard the first month as its trying to break the habit. perhaps you and your other half could try and break the habit by using your night off from your son by going out and doing something together i.e movies a walk bowling, salsa etc that takes away the boredom that will lead to thinking about it. i got out of the habit by driving everywhere

i LOVE wine also. i don't think it is hurting you that much. it is hard enough to go around feeling that there are some foods that we can't have, much less taking away alcohol also. if it makes you happy, it can't be that bad. (sheryl crowe song; it just popped into my head lol) i average a couple glasses every other weekend. i think your doing fine.

Well, what do you mean by a "couple glasses". How many exactly?

I agree with Countingdown...a glass of red wine a day isn't bad at all! read up on the health benefits of it...and that the calories form that won't be all end all...the calories that count are EMPTY calories...soda with sugar, chips, candy, white breads and pastas..things with no nutritional value! Drink away sista...just not a box!

It really frustrates me that the alcohol industry isn't required to have calorie and nutritional information on their packaging.

I know there are lost of sites about how many calories are in stuff but there a lot of drinks (maybe its just Canadian drinks I've had trouble finding info on) that are just big mysteries to me.

I love red wine but I've been avoiding drinking it because I have no idea how many calories are in each one.

I'm just mainly worried about all the extra calories because I wasn't planning it into my diet for the day. I feel better now though. I think ill keep my wine and make sure I keep on plan.

A whole bottle of wine has 625 calories - that's 25.4 ounces. There's about 125 calories in 5 ounces of wine. That definitely fits into my plan.

A 40-something sticking my head in here - I hope it's ok.

I am having the same trouble, so you're not alone sweets. I indulge when my kids finally go to bed and my husband goes to work. For me, I have so little time to myself that it's a hurry-up-and-relax type of thing. I have given up most of the caffeine and all the wine this week and am feeling antsy as I try to get the same 'fix' with Bitter Melon tea. Sigh. If the calories/carbs fit into your plan and you don't overindulge, I don't see the problem with a couple of glasses a week.

Just my .03 (up a .01 due to the present economy)
