hi everyone,
so nice to find this place. im an ex- low carber who couldnt hack it anymore. many years ago i tried low fat and it worked good then for me, so im trying it again. it makes more sense to me. the one i had tried before was to stay around 21 grams of fat.
i started 2 days ago, and have 70 lbs to go-----it seems like it will be forever *sigh*. til menopause hit me 2 yrs ago, i had only 40 lbs to lose-its kinda depressing.
you guys are so motivating-ive read all the posts. cant wait to get the kashi tomorrow.
ill face the music and weigh myself tomorrow and check back.

Hi everyone!! Welcome Jazz, dont worry, just take it day by day, and it'll come off, stay motivated, determined, come here, and post if u need, we are here for ya. Your plan sounds good!! I do the percentages, and now have it memorized, but counting works just as well for others!! Keep on doing it, dont stop!!
Andrea, hey girl, How has your day been? Kashi is great<<I had it today just with milk, and loved it.
Nygal, when you do start exercising dont rush, take it slow, and add on little by little, you will see results, Just walking around the block could be a good start!! Doing a little more housework, NOn the less, I thing you are doing great and off to a good start, I agree that pounds that are taken off slowly, and patiently are more likely to stay off, To be honest, this is the slowest I have ever been to lose weight, and it feels GREAT!! Everybody just keep your heads up, stay tuned in here, Do it!!
Well I am having a OP day, and doing great, Pulled out stop the insanity again cuz i had a rough week last week, and I am gonna do this!! I did my 8 min tae bo 2 and weights, just a little warm up felt great, well everyone, have a beautiful day!! TTFN!

After having a real busy day, counting my fat grams and writing them in my journal, then losing my journal and forgetting how many fat grams I actually had, I became very frustrated and actually considered doing the fat percentage formula instead of counting fat grams.
What are you guys doing to keep your fat down? Grams or fat percentage formula?
Does anyone have the formula? Your help is very much appreciated.

i count fat g. they say as far as percentage goes its 30% of cals which translates to:
the way i keep it down is to eat high fiber foods and foods that are naturally low in fat b/c im on not into low fat versions of high fat foods, so by using full fat, my g go quickly. i also use chitosan.

that recipe looks really good. i found one for a non fat bread that has turned out quite nice. have made my third batch, this time with half whole wheat and half white flour. it gives me 12 thick slices and lasts a few days.
i have been staying within the 21 carbs and hanging in there. snacking on rice cakes and fruit when i get the munchies, and doing some light exercise. have lost 3 lbs it looks like.
do you guys push the water with the low fat plan------i drink about 8 glasses a day.
also, what about alcohol. every other night or so i have a glass of white wine or a vodka drink, i count each drink as a carb...what do you guys do?

:) Hi ladies I am glad to see others doing lo fat. I have been up and down in my weight all my life since teenhood. I am 37 recently married for the 2nd time to a wonderful man. I have been losing 1 to 2 pounds a week doing lo fat, about 1400 to 1500 calories a day and have been walking 2 miles a day. I know it seems slow but I hear that is best. I just pushed the walking this month and have been faithfully doing it. I take one day a week off and relax but feel better when I do walk. I plan on not taking days off for the summer as long as I am able to walk and not stuck wothout someone to watch the kids.
Andrea thank you for the fat gram chart. I want to stick with about 20% fat in my plan some days I am under and others I am over. What is Chitosan that you take?
I think the apple pie sounds great. I might make that tomorrow. I was having reduced fat vanilla ice cream with diet rootbeer. Ice cream is gone now so I am glad I wont have that to tempt me.
I try to drink 10 glasses of water day and prefer 12. I am in the ladies room alot but it seems to move the weight faster also. I love to make sure to have lots of veges each day also.
I am using fitday.com to journal foods exercise and all that. It is free and seems to do the trick for me. I don't have to figure out anything then it is done for me. Have a great day everyone! Daphne

Jazz, what is that recipe for the bread? I am very interested in it. love to bake!! I try to drink 2-3 liters of water a day because it doesnt hurt to increase it. good for the body esp in the summer.
Well hope everyone is OP, and doing good, oh and how i figure my percentage is i take the amt of fat grams (per serving) mult by 9, ( number of calories per fat gram) and divide the calories per serving into it. I can look at a label , and tell if it under 30 or not now, and if so , I eat it, dont count cal. but can tell when enough is enough!! Well TTFN!!

hi folks, im feeling awful tonight----i need a slap in the face or something. went out to dinner, a once a year treat we do, and just blew it. im stuffed and feel like a tub. i made sure ihad only about 5 carbs today knowing tonight might be a real temptation--had no idea what my total was tonight, chicken breast, alfredo noodles, 5 glasses of wine, a spoonful of ice cream, and a spoonful of brownie cake. im mad at myself-----i only ate half of the alfredo noodles, tho, tried to aviod the creme sauce. but i havent eaten this much in so long..............
anybody ever feel like this?
no, im not on adkins-i was for 4 months, but gave it up. too hard for me to follow long term.
i feel like i gained 20 lbs tonight.
please, somebody give me a word of hope.

ok, im better now---done with the pity party.
for the no fat bread recipe:
2 cups flour
1 cup warm water
1 pkg yeast
1t sugar
1 t salt
proof yeast, add to flour. then add salt--knead a few times on floured surface to make elastic, cover and let rise about an hour til double. punch down, form into load or shape you like, cover and let rise about an hour. bake 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
i get 12 thick slices out of this batch. also, mix half white and half whole wheat flour, toss in some raisens and cinn for raisen bread, or 3/4 t gaarlic powder and 3/4 t basil for a neat garlicky bread . its a simple no fail kinda recipe. mine doesnt rise very high, but it sure is nice flavor and chewy, and lasts me 4-6 days.

It is a loss, and I am proud of ya for hangin in there girl. to everyone else hope your friday was good, I had a massage for the first time from a LMT, and it was awesome, my muscles had been sore for a week , and it is gone, my energy is up, Hey Jazz, this might be something good to pep ya up. it did for me, cuz before i had the massage i was cranky felt bloated which i probably am, and was just horrible, now, i am sooo happy and feelin awesome, post my wt tom take care everyone.

hello everyone, had my weigh in , like I figured, it was a gain, but i am not discouraged, just gotta keep on doing it, a little more sternly, lol. Well i gained .5 pounds, I did increase my weights, so maybe that's it. How is everyone this weekend?? Jazz, the main thing I see is to get the proper amount of calories, you dont want it to be at the level of starvation, because like Andrea said, then you do lose hair, hold onto fat, and just feel plain pooped, Well everyone TTFN, Imma do this, did taebo very early this am!!

Hi everyone, I saw this thread for low fat eating and thought I'd join in. I've been doing lowfat since January and exercising everyday and have seen some good success with it.
I've lost 50 lbs so far and I can believe how good I feel. I would like to lose about 50-60 more so I'll be here for awhile if you'll let me join you...

had my weigh in today and i lost 3.5 lbs this week-whooo-hoooo! am trying to make sure i get all the fat grams im supposed to----its just gotten easy for me to grab some fruit instead or regular meal--made myself stop and eat a turkey sandwhich with low fat bread for lunch--had some more fruit as an afternoon snack, and not hungry for dinner yet.
had a real good day, spent it outside preparing the garden and planeted some stuff. now im pooped. i made sme more of the no fat bread and added some oats in it this time, came out very good.

You all seem so motivated in this 'adventure' that I had to write again. I think reading all your messages will be just what I need to keep going. Can I ask a dumb question? What is OP? I see that in everyone's messages but don't know what it means.. I'm thinking optimistic but not sure.. :dizzy:
The biggest thing I have to learn is to stay off that darn scale.. :D it's so tempting to get on it everyday but I'm trying to not do that so I don't get discouraged. I try to weigh in only once a week. Is that what you all do? Just curious.
Counting fat gms and carb gms seems to be working for me, not doing low carb just making sure I stick to my limit as I have diabetes.

i had a great day, splurged a little, though i seem 2 be having minor "plumbing" problems if ya know what i mean, but im hoping a few days on kashi will cure it b/c i havent eaten it since friday.
just- i am on a low fat/lower carb thing too. how many fats to you eat? i dont count carbs. i also try 1x week weigh. do u all have a GF grill? i used mine &its awesome!!!!

To answer your question about fat gms, I am supposed to eat 1800 calories a day and 30% fat but I rarely do that, I'm usually around 1400. and 20% fat. Not really on purpose, it just works out that way.
When I first started this journey with Diabetes in January, I saw a dietician that emphasized low fat and crossed everything off the list... :0( I took that to mean no fat, so I was losing weight too fast. When I went back she corrected her mistake and told me to go up to 1500 calories and 30% fat, the next day my doctor upped it again to 1800 calories and 30% fat. I'm pretty active. Now it's just the way I eat, salads and vegetables at lunch and dinner, with 30-45 gms of carbohydrate. I only eat about 6 oz of lean protein a day also split between all my meals. I have discovered soy products, so most of it is very low fat. Yeah Boca Burgers... lol
I see people talking about Kashi cereal on here and personally I think it tastes like tree bark.. lol sorry Even the birds wouldn't eat it here in WI...:lol:

lol on kahi. i like it. if not 4 kashi id be constantly constipated. i usually stay between 11-16 cals but rarely go as far as 16. my fat is usually 35-40g.
no offense but 6 oz?? how do you stay full????? i eat minimum of 10 oz.

Doctor's orders on the 6 oz of lean protein. Diabetes can affect your kidneys as can overloading on protein so I am limited for that reason and for saturated fat. The saturated fat and cholesteral story is particularly bad for someone with diabetes.
Sucks to be me huh? :lol: Not really, I'm so used to it now that I don't even miss it.

hi folks, how is everyone? ive been doing real well lately, and am enjoying that kashi stuff. bought some puffed ones that taste pretty good, and use that with some dried chopped fruit as an occasional snack. i like some crunchies sometimes.
had a vodka tonic last night--2 a week i let myself have a drink, not sure i enjoy them anymore!
does anyone remember or has tried a plan from years back called the '7 Unit' diet? about 15 yrs ago a book came out that was the first id ever read about low fat. i lost the book some time ago, and have missed it, it was pretty easy. anyway.........

Anyway, he told me this last weekend that he feels the same way for me!! AHHHHH!
So the page turns to a new chapter in Judy's life... Now I get to live what I've read about so many times. My best friend in the whole world wants to be more than friends... whoa! Hang on while I restart my heart here...... Ok all better. :D This could be an interesting summer ladies!! ;)

what a lovely story-------best of luck to you both. being best friends sure goes along way to happiness. ahhh, love is in the air.....my best wish for anyone is that they are loved by those that they love. every day im thankful to God for the one He sent to me.
i broke the plan and went to the neighborhood fish fry. its actually every other night, we live on a lake and folks get togeather and cook incredible foods, drink beer and get silly. ive been avoiding them, but tonight my beloved wanted us to go, and i ate 3 pieces of fresh deep fried wall eye --incredible stuff. ive been perfect all week, so im not going to beat myself up. i dont want to even THINK about the fat grams in what i ate tonight, AND i had 3 glasses of wine. hahaha--well, tomorrow, more kashi.
that 7 unit diet plan i mentioned before is from a book several years back, it was a low fat plan where you count grams. 3 grams of fat was a unit, and it listed all the free non fat things you could have, but just dont go over 7 units, which was about 21 grams. it just explained things so easy to me back then, i was just wondering if anyone else had heard of it.
also, i bought some kashi that is kinda raw grains with some sunflower seeds in it, and you cook it like brown rice. it was quite good, especially with some hot sauce on it and some steamed chopped broccoli---has anyone tried the raw stuff before? in my fat gram counter book, kashi is a zero, but with the sunflower seeds, its got to be more, anyone know?

I am so jealous of that fish fry :lol: I am allergic to fish and seafood and I always say if they ever diagnose me with a terminal illness I'm gonna take my chances and eat it!!! :lol:
I've been staying calm (amazing for me..) about the new things going on in my life. Only one problem I see coming from this best friend turned romantic partner is he told me yesterday that 50 lbs is enough weight to lose.. :s:
I said no it's not, I have 50 to go.... so I think I'll have some resistance from him on this.. OK so the guy likes 'fat chicks' :lol: He said I looked great 50 lbs ago..
I have to keep it in perspective and continue on my journey. He is entitled to his opinion after all but it doesn't mean I have to agree. Sticking to the low fat foods, exercising most days. I want to be able to say everyday but I can find more excuses to let myself off on that one.. <eyeroll> I'm aware of that problem though so I stay on top of it. Being diabetic, I just picture myself walking with a white cane and a guide dog and it gets me motivated to get on the treadmill. (blindness is a complication of diabetes if left untreated along with numerous other things like heart disease, lossing limbs... okok I'll exercise)
My biggest 'food' problem is cheese.. imagine that and I'm from Wisconsin too.. I think it's a law here that you have to consume pounds of cheese every year... just kidding. :D

i didnt weigh myself today, but i measured--lost another 3 inches, and boy does that make me feel good, no matter what the scale will tell me.

Jazz, CONGRATULATIONS!! 3 inches is alot to lose, and alot of determiniation led to that!! I am proud of ya, hey we all slip up sometimes, the thing is we gotta jump right back on, and keep going, !! TO be honest I had some Lays chips last night, but they tasted good!! Gotta treat myself sometimes, but I knew I had to keep going with my p lan, and not let it halt me at all, and it didnt, SO you are getting your grounds on control, which is very importatant!! Good for ya, keep it up!!

I'm so tired tonight I can barely sit here and type but it's a good kind of tired. I worked in the yard all day today, planted all my flowers, cut the lawn, and all that stuff! I was going to go for a walk just now and decided that as tired as I am I'd probably fall asleep half way around so I'm not going. :lol: I usually walk 2 miles on my route so I'll do 3 tomorrow. For some reason I was up at 4:30am today (on a Sat are ya nuts?), my mind is thinking of too many things to sleep lately I guess :)
So anyway, I weigh in and measure tomorrow morning so we'll see. I should start T.O.M. any minute so I'm not really expecting a loss but oh well I know I've been a good kid this week... :)

Sunday morning weigh in day for me.. as I suspected no loss this week :( but I did lose a 1/2 inch in my waist and hips... hmmm
Interesting.
I seem to have a problem with staying off the darn scale. I want to see, I want to see :) I want to get myself to where I only weigh myself on Sunday morning but I can't seem to wait that long. I think I got into this bad habit because for awhile I was losing grand amounts every week and it made me feel good to see it on the scale, now that it's slowed down, I get discouraged when I have weeks like this where I don't lose pounds but still lose inches. I don't want to become obsessed with it, heck maybe I already am LOL

it sounds like you had a fun day yesterday. good for you! congrats on yr inch loss:) youre doing great. its easy to be obsessed with the scale, i am the same way.
hi to everyone else. i did ok yesterday til last night rolled around and blew it- yet again! i just cant seem to get it together. funny thing is, as i was sitting in the restaurant oinking out, mom wqas telling me a story that ended with someone from my old ww group who had lost over 100 pounds was askin howc we were& WHERE we were& im wondering if its a sign that im supposed 2 go back.

Glad you are doing good there.. I'm doing great here! It's only Tuesday and I feel like I'm on top of the world. Can't exactly explain why because I don't know but it sure feels good. I don't think I've felt like this ever in my life so it's strange but nice.. :)

just checking back in, ive been staying on plan except for tonight. giving myself one night a week to have ameal that i miss. been feeling real good, havent weighed myself lately--kinda too afraid, ya know? like, if its not down a few pounds by now, i might get discouraged or something. so, im keeping with the plan and just living. got a new job and have been too busy to think about food, i just pack some good stuff in my bag, rice cakes, low fat yogurt, carrots, 2 bottles of water. i had some raspberry newtons for a snakc, but that said 0 fat grams, but im wondering.

Hi everyone,
I'm doing ok here, was sick a few days this week but that's just part of my 'disease' so I'm used to it (I hate it anyway though)
Foodwise I'm doing good this week but with being sick exercise has been tough. I'm planning a nice long, quick walk in the morning if it's not raining. If it is raining I'll walk the treadmill, have to get back on track. I missed 3 days in a row now and I can feel it in my bones. I still did the light weights when I was sick but couldn't much as my arms ached pretty much.
I'm better now.. had lunch with a nice guy today (only made me realize I have fallen for the 'friend' big time.. lol) this guy was nice, owns a company but all I thought about the whole time I was there was the 'friend'.. Testing myself to be sure it's the real deal ya know!!
Anyway, tomorrow's another day !

hi all. i am finally here after a hectic, but nice weekend! my neice&nephew were baptized today. it was soo beautiful! now for the downside..... yesterday was the big bash& i ate alot of fat& even more carbs. i did have a shake at breakfast though& tuna melts for lunch so upon arrival, i had eaten little fat.
today was a family party. i was able to cut the carbs, but i still ate alotta fat. oh well. tomorrow is a new day&thur im joining ww.

hi everyone---------awful quiet here..well, its summer.
ive been staying on plan pretty good, but havent weighed myself in a week. been focusing on low fat yoghurt, raw veggies, fresh fruit, some brown rice, some chicken or turkey now and then. looking for some decent tasting granola bars that are low fat.
lost 1/2 inch off the hips, thats all in 1 1/2 weeks. need to push the water and do some walking. feeling sluggish.

Hey everyone, and Congrats Jazz, Andrea, Just cuz, glad you are feeling better!! I am back, lol, I had a few BAD days, it is harder to be on track with ol hubby here, on my nerves, but I did some meditation, and positive thinking, and I am Op today, and staying!! I walked a good long walk and feel great, Pushed alot of water , it is soooo hot here, . I am also preparing to move, So alot is on my plate, but no sweat, imma stick to my plan. Well just lettin yaal know I am still here have a good day.:)

hi everyone,
how are things? kinda quiet lately-but its summer. alot of forest fires up here where i live , we're dodging smoke alot lately. anyway, im real happy to report that ive lost some more inches, and im just so durn excited. havent weighed myself in 3 weeks. i kinda have a scale phobia. if it doesnt say what it think it should say, im afraid ill get distressed, so i ve taken to just measuring. lost another inch in the bust, 2 in the waist and one in the hips. much better than last time. pants are getting looser---its kinda exciting. theres GOTTA be some pounds lost in there somewhere!!!!
i found a new job, and i take certain things along to snack on like carrot sticks, low fat graham crackers, yoghurt, rice cakes and such, then have a decent dinner thats low fat. usually i have oatmeal and a banana for breakfast.
hahaha-tonight im celebrating and having a vodka tonic!!!!
