Hi BlueSurfGirl! Is the abbreviation "BSG" alright for us to call you in this thread?

Thanks for the encouragement! I lost 2 lbs the first week I tried eating 1,500 before I got TOM and then got sick with a cold.

From what the other chickies commented on the thread I posted the other day-- was the possibility I didn't lose much weight as I thought due to not exercising as much for the week I was sick AND also that I ate the same amount of calories (1,500 per day) during that week as well.

Now that I'm back in the full swing of exercising :cool: I'll try the 1,500 one more week and if I don't lose any weight by next Monday's weigh-in, I'll see about cutting my caloric intake down to about 1,200 - 1,300 or something.

I guess all I can do at this point is wait and see then do some caloric experimenting! :)
---------------------------------
Tuesday's workout session:

* 55 minutes on the elliptical machine (Did MUCH better than yesterday since I increased the incline to level 9 from 8 :cool: ... Sweated a bunch & the machine said I had an average 135 heart beats throughout the workout!)
* 10 minutes walking
* skipped buns & thighs pilates dvd today since my a$$ is SORE from Monday's weight lifting! lol :)

Wednesday's workout session:

* 55 minutes on the elliptical machine (heart rate average was 130 today... less than yesterday's 135 but I s.w.e.a.t.e.d. a whole bunch and felt like I really did good today compared to yesterday, lol. Go figure ;)).
* 1 hour & 25 (?) minutes of weight/resistance training (*I got to advance on the number of pounds for dumbbells exercises and several freemotion machine weights! Feels GREAT to be able to finally advance here!! :))
* 10 minutes walking
* abs pilates dvd (*Also added some new ab moves with resistance to help toughen up my stomach :cool:)

Overall, I really feel like I got a really great, kick-a$$ total workout today! It's wonderful to have days like that!!! :)

yesterday did a very leisurely 5.5 miles jog and then .5 mile walk. i have my very first 5K early saturday morning so i'm feeling a bit anxious. every time i try and run within a couple of hours of getting up in the morning, i peter out after about a mile or so. the body is a strange strange beast.

* 15 minutes walking (?) outside
* buns & thighs pilates dvd

Hi Everyone, just wanted to check in. I have been running outside since the weather has been so nice! Yesterday hubby and I did our 5k route. I finished in a slightly better time and ran for 25 minutes total (out of 36 minutes). I'll probably hit the gym tomorrow for an easy workout and then run my mile route on Sunday if the weather holds up.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Friday's workout session:

* 55 minutes on the elliptical machine (My average heart rate was 130 today... Disappointing - not to mention bizarre - because my average heart rate was between 130-145 and higher throughout the whole workout session on the elliptical! I thought I was good for the mid-130s here... *pfbbbt* ;) I cranked up the resistance by 2 levels today... from level 9 to level 11 and I just sweated a whole bunch! Even the shoulder straps to my tank top were soaked! And I've never had THAT soaked before! LOL. )
* Over an hour & 25 minutes of total body weight/resistance training (I couldn't finish all the sets for each body part, but I know I gave as best as I could today! :cool:)
* abs pilates dvd (so-so on that :))
* 15-20 minutes (?) walking

Saturday's exercise session:

* 55 minutes at the elliptical (heart rate average was BETTER than yesterday! 135 average & I still got to sweat a lot!)
* 20 minutes walking (?)
* Skipped pilates for the buns/thighs (dvd)... my butt & legs feel sore from this week's series of workouts! :)

Have a great weekend everybody!

Monday's workout session:

* 55 minutes on the elliptical machine (I jacked up the resistance again from a "level 11" to a "level 12," and the incline from "5" to "6." I'm beginning to wonder if the average heart rate on the elliptical machine isn't entirely accurate, because I monitored my heart rate via the old standard "2 fingers at the neck pulse" throughout my workout, and it was pretty consistent. Again, I was SOAKED with sweat along with my tank top's shoulder straps also soaked, lol. I mean, jeez it felt like I was HIKING today ;))
* Over an hour & 20 minutes of total body weight/resistance training (I tried but had difficulty finishing all three sets to different body parts, tsk!!!! Ah well, at least I tried!! :cool:)
* abs pilates dvd (not too shabby, but not 100% "ouch, my abs are gonna die on me! ;))
* 15-20 minutes (?) walking
* Over an hour & 20 minutes of total body weight/resistance training (I tried but had difficulty finishing all three sets to different body parts, tsk!!!! Ah well, at least I tried!! :cool:)
* abs pilates dvd (not too shabby, but not 100% "ouch, my abs are gonna die on me! ;))
* 15-20 minutes (?) walking

Great job Tea-; You are truly a lean and mean fighting machine.

Well I'm still working out I'm so glad the weather is finally changing and I can start walking outside as well. I a wil work out tonight as I watch Biggest Loser. have a great day all.

Hi Mercee & sws19!

Thanks for the "lean machine" comment :) but I really am a lazy sod ;) in real life, lol!

I'm not inclined to go very fast, which is why I favor things like the treadmill or elliptical (low-impact) or the stair master ... the key for me is I just crank up the resistance or incline so I can go slower but work my muscles & heart rate harder, ya know??? :cool:

Some days I do really well as you know from past posts, other days, not so much. I'm just in general, really determined to lose weight! :)

Sws19-- I've only lost 1.8 lbs in a month, even though I'm trying! No need to feel jealous!! :) There's a great book that inspires me to keep exercising. It's called "Fitness is Religion" by Madonna's former trainer, Ray Kybartas. It's mostly just pictures and inspirational writing... It's a wonderful read and you can find used copies of it on amazon or powells (dot) com :cool:
--------------------------------------------------------------
Tuesday's exercise session:

* 55 minutes at the elliptical (My hamstrings & butt were SORE/TIGHT when I woke up this morning that I knew I was not going to have a very high heart rate/fast workout on the elliptical today... and I was right! LOL. My average heart rate was an average 112 beats, but I did sweat a good bit... granted I didn't burn as many calories as I'd like since my lower body told me: "are you kidding?!" ;). At least I tried today!!)
* 20 minutes walking outside
* Skipped pilates for the buns/thighs today... my "buns & thighs" are like forgetaboutit! and I'm going back to the gym for Wednesday's weight lifting session anyway.... :)

Hello everyone! Been running outside but today I'll be back at the gym on the cross trainer to give my shins a bit of a rest from running on the pavement.

Monday: Ran the 5k, personal best/record of 35:25 :D

Tuesday: Took a leisurely (ha!) mile run around the neighborhood..improved my mile time to 12 minutes.

Sometimes I feel like I'm not doing a very good job exercising since I've only lost 1.8 lbs in 4 weeks to date :( **I'm a calorie counter, so I do keep very good track of what I eat on a daily basis.**

I do work up a good/decent sweat on the elliptical and I try as hard as I can to do my weight training.... I guess it's just one of those times where I still keep trying as best as I can in exercising - and I do like it - but I feel like, "c'mon, let me see some pounds dropped on the scale since I'm bustin' my a$$ here!" :)

Just a little whiny vent.....

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday's workout session:

* 55 minutes on the elliptical machine (heart rate average was 117 today... but the machine said I burned more calories today??? HUH? I cranked up the resistance by another 2 levels so I could still be slower due to still-sore-muscles, but it guaranteed me a sweaty session! ).
* 1 hour & 25 (?) minutes of weight/resistance training (hat's great about this week's weight resistance sessions is I'm constantly changing different ways to do my biceps/triceps/chest/abs, etc at the gym... sometimes I get uncertain since I don't feel the "same" burn as I did when I did the old fashion way of doing bicep curls... but they say it targets the same muscles, but just "confuses" them so your body doesn't get "bored" :cool:)
* skipped walking
* abs pilates dvd

i totally understand. i basically have had maybe 4 lbs net loss since february. right now my weight fluctuates between 142 and 148. it's really frustrating, but of course, i'm doing it to myself. basically i eat close to on plan monday through friday. get down around 142 on friday. then have a horrible weekend and am back at 147 or 148 by monday morning. shampoo rinse repeat. after about 3 weeks of this, my friday weight squeaks down a pound or so. i really need to start imposing more weekend discipline up in here. or at least start working out on the weekends to offset my transgressions.

Okay... that's it, Aleve is my new best friend ;) I woke up this morning and the whole of my back... from the small of my back to the shoulderblades and even down my arms (biceps/triceps) were SORE. I actually just laid in bed for a LONG while before the Aleve took effect and I trudged down to the gym, sheesh!

Thursday's workout session:

* 55 minutes on the elliptical machine (I felt doubtful I did a good job on exercising today :( I burned about 25-30 calories less on the elliptical than usual, but the shocker was my heart rate was an average 137 today!! I was like, HUH?! I'm please to say I still had a semi-decent sweat though out my session on the elliptical!)
* buns & thighs pilates dvd

ok, you might not want to hear this, tea, but you might want to take it easy for a couple days if you're really that sore. i used to think it was awesome that i could push through the pain, but after a month on the sidelines and a month and a half of physical therapy, i have become a believer in the idea that pain is your body's way of telling you to stop before things get really out of hand.

Monday's workout session:

* 55 minutes on the elliptical machine (Did a decent, okay sweaty session; average heart rate was 138... better than Saturday's 137 average heart beats on the elliptical! ;))
* Over an hour & 10 minutes of total body weight/resistance training (Getting a little better on finishing my sets for each machine/body part! )
* abs pilates dvd (new abs moves at the gym with a weighted 8-lb ball really got my attention while doing pilates later in the day!! lol!)
* 20-25 minutes (?) walking outside

Friday & Saturday's exercise sessions were pathetic so I didn't bother posting them on the thread!

i did my mother's day 5k on the treadmill last night and finished my best time so far! 27:25. i was drenched at the end. not sure if i'll be able to pull that out again. heh.
then did some free weights and situps for about 20 mins, which is a long time for me.

Tuesday's exercise session: **nice, RELAXING, don't-kill-myself- but-am-still-sweating-on-the-elliptical-machine :cool:

* 55 minutes at the elliptical (I largely enjoyed today's workout... not just because I had a good sweat, but because I finally found a book thin enough I could prop up upon the elliptical while working out! *It's the "Body for Life for Women" book... I had a nice, relaxing time watching Rachel Ray & Oprah with breaks in reading the "Body for Life..." book. Plus, my average heart rate on the elliptical was an amazing 147 today!! :cool:)
* 10-15 (?) minutes walking outside

Wednesday's workout session:

* 55 minutes on the elliptical machine (heart rate average was 112 today... I don't get it since I had a sweaty session on the elliptical and the machine said I burned my usual 600+ calories... ah well, at least I tried to burn SOME calories/fat!!! :cool:).
* 1 hour & 10 (?) minutes of weight/resistance training
* skipped walking
* abs pilates dvd

I did a very low-impact version of exercising today on the elliptical... dunno if I was being lazy or if my body just decided it was going to be a low-impact workout or if the air conditioner made me cold so I didn't sweat as I usually do... Sigh :(

Thursday's workout session:

* 55 minutes on the elliptical machine (The machine said I burned about 580+ calories... I tried to make it hard on myself by jackin' the incline/resistance so I hiked quite a bit here ... didn't sweat very much, but my heart rate was in an steady aerobic state. I guess it's just one of those days....?????)
* buns/thighs pilates dvd

Friday's workout session:

* 55 minutes on the elliptical machine (My average heart rate was 124... better than yesterday, but only a light sweat! I dunno what's up with me :( I slept well last night, but this is the 2nd day in a row I'm feeling tired out... I do know I'm due for TOM any day now, sigh.)
* Over an hour & 15 minutes of total body weight/resistance training (**The weight training was the best part of my exercise today that I felt I did pretty dang good there! :cool:)
* abs pilates dvd (so-so/pretty good on that score :))

Hi there,

I've been following your thread with interest and wondered if I could join in. I'm also a big treadmill fan, but I'm reading with awe at how well some of you are doing with running. I have a great treadmill program that goes up and down hills and the speed varies as well. I end up jogging for about a minute and a half at a time, three or four times in the thirty minute workout. I'm trying to work up to running longer.

My gym is having a 5K-10K walk/run fundraiser next month. For the last two years I've walked it, slowly. This year it would be great to jog at least half of it.

Anyway, I try and do my treadmill in the morning, and then the gym in the evening ,with Aquafit a couple of times a week as well. At the gym, the elliptical is my fave, with a 30 minute workout buring 400 calories and working up a great sweat. Working on the strenght training as well.

But I'm just back into it....I lost quite a lot of weight a few years ago and then gained it all back because of poor choices and no exercise.

So back at it.....and I think this thread might be a great motivator!

Monday's workout session: my exercise mojo is back!! :carrot:

* 55 minutes on the elliptical machine (I'm a happy 3fatchickie! Despite the stupid heart rate monitor on the machine saying my average heart rate was 126 for the workout, I had a challenging-but-not-that-I-wanna-die session on the elliptical and sweated a whole dang bunch!)
* Over an hour of total body weight/resistance training (I'm SO stoked! I finally got to start doing sets of 15 lb dumbbells today for my arms!!! I could only do one full set of 15 in biceps, then 10, then 8 on my third and last set of bicep curls :cool: I could however do all three sets via triceps on 15 lb dumbbells. The only thing I gotta do now is find new ab moves since I'm getting too used/finding it easy to do the ones I'm already doing!)
* abs pilates dvd (need to start advancing here....)
* 20-30 minutes (?) walking

teawithsunshine
05-20-2009, 01:55 AM
Tuesday's exercise session:

* 55 minutes at the elliptical (Another great day on the elliptical!! :cool: My average heart rate was 146!! And I sweated a whooooole bunch! I had to be careful carrying my book off the elliptical AFTER cooling down, since I was afraid sweat would drench over it!)
* 20+ minutes walking outside

teawithsunshine

Wednesday's workout session:

* 55 minutes on the elliptical machine (not a good workout by ANY standards, even though I stuck out for the entire hour :().
* 1 hour & 15 (?) minutes of weight/resistance training (same as above :()

welcome jade! what a great idea!

my workout yesterday was a total disaster. it was meant to be my long run day (6 miles in 60 mins or something approximating that). i could tell within a couple of minutes that things were not going well. i ended up not even being able to make it to 3 miles, and this is at a pace even slower than i have previously done 6 miles. and then i wasn't even able to continue walking beyond about half a mile. i felt totally nauseous. couldn't do weights or situps. and just went home and watched american idol.
boo.

sws19-- Jeez, that really doesn't sound good :( I've had a crappy workout session yesterday in both cardio AND weight lifting. I hate those days too.

Thursday’s exercise session:

Tuesday's exercise session:

* 55 minutes on the elliptical (average heart beat: 131! I enjoyed it today, a nice, slow sweat while reading a book on the elliptical.... :))
* 10 to 15+ minutes (?) of walking outside (did a 20 minute brisk walk outside in Seattle on Sunday :))

Wednesday's workout session:

* 55 minutes on the elliptical machine (heart rate average was 171 even though my sweat exertion was less than nil :().
* 1 hour & 15 minutes of weight/resistance training (I'm finding I'm getting better at some body parts than others... today I did three sets of seated two-arm extensions with a 20 lb dumbbell instead of my usual 15!! :cool: I also upped the weights on several other machines... can't complete all sets, but I'm feeling some - not a lot - of soreness, post-workout!! :)).
* walked 15+ minutes (?)
* abs pilates dvd (Need to improve my abs routine.... or check into new dvds for the abdominals!! ;))

Thursday's workout session:

* 55 minutes on the elliptical machine (Hiked at the maximum incline & resistance: level 20 :cool: My heart rate average was only 126 throughout the session, but eh, I sweated a pretty good bit and I REALLY feel it in my thighs, oy! That, and my legs were already sore to begin with due to weight lifting yesterday!! LOL!)
* 35+ minutes (?) of walking outside.... gorgeous weather today!

Friday's workout session:

* 55 minutes on the elliptical machine (My average heart rate was 125.. felt like hiking a little less today, so I brought the resistance on the elliptical to a level 14 instead of level 20 from yesterday.)
* Slightly more than an hour & 20 minutes of total body weight/resistance training (**Sore muscles all over, but not enough to cripple me ;) lol. I did pretty dang good there today now that I think about it! :cool:)
* abs pilates dvd (better workouts with an 8 lb medicine ball at the gym.... :))
* walking (outside!) ... 10+ minutes :)

Wow!!

It has been so long since I have posted. I am doing great though. I am walking outside now that the weather has changed. I am walking 3.6 miles 4 times a week outside. Mt weight is still coming down so I am excited. I have been sick since Thursday with bronchittis so I feel lousy now. Keep up the good work ladies you girls rock.

Hey everyone, I'm back!!

I've been gone for sooooooooo long. The two weeks before I left for my vacation I had a huge breakup/breakdown with my boyfriend. Luckily, we have pulled through it and are starting fresh and very happy.

I went on my three-week vacation to Hong Kong and Taiwan and it was awesome.

When I got home last week I weighed myself and realized I am now down to 160 lb! I'm so excited! I feel great. I have to keep going!!

Tonight I"m going to try to run, but might have to make it tomorrow instead. Can't wait to get back to running, I sure missed it.

So what's new everyone?????

Is this thread dead??????? NO, it can't be!

Went for a long walk/run yesterday with my boyfriend outside. Was so great!!! Going to go tonight for a walk/run hopefully on the treadmill again. Don't want to wreck my shins so will take it easy tonight and walk the first 15 min I think.

have been listening to "I can make you thin" by Paul McKenna - has anyone heard of him? I tried to do a search on here because I know people have mentioned it before, but it won't let me search the title and nothing comes up for Paul McKenna. Weird!

Hope everyone comes back to this thread!

hey ladies. sorry for disappearing! i started posting over in the runners thread and kinda felt like i was constantly posting the same thing. but i'm here and i'm alive. still running. yesterday i went to the gym and someone was on the one functioning treadmill so i used the elliptical. i feel very torn about the elliptical. when i use it i do not get that totally tired feeling afterwards like i just had a hard workout, which is nice. i feel very spry and ready to carry on with the night. but on the other hand, i'm only burning about 2/3rds as many calories for the same amount of time. so i'm not sure what to conclude about the elliptical vs. treadmill.

sws19
06-11-2009, 10:22 AM
ok i'm baaaaaack. so where have the rest of you wandered of to, hmm?
anyway, i just posted this in the runners thread, but i'll re-report. yesterday i was having a rough afternoon (decided i need to break up with this guy that i've been seeing who i'm crazy about but i just don't think it'll work) and so i thought it would be a good opportunity to go for bit of a longer haul than i've been doing lately to try and clear my head and heart (but not as long as i was doing before i started physical therapy). i used the run/walk strategy that people have been mentioning lately. so i ran 30 mins. walked 1.5 mins. then ran til the 40 min mark. walked 2 mins. then ran it out to the 50 min mark. all in all ran a little over 5 miles and then walked another mile to cool down. not too shabby. though i didn't in that time come up with any workable solutions for my love life. oh well.

I'm still here!
Will try to go for run tonight. Have only gone twice this week :-(
My abs are killing me though cause I did major ab work on Monday. Still ouchy today!

Sorry to hear that SWS19. I'm having a difficult boy situation too!

oooh what do you do for ab workouts? i just do some crunches and leg lifts but i very quickly get bored and i'm not sure if it's doing anything. gonna do sprint intervals this afternoon, i think. though it's gonna have to be a quickie. have a friend (new boy distraction maybe?) coming over at 8 to hang out.
and yeah, those damn boys. why they gotta be so dang difficult? and not only was i crushed by having to break things off with him because i really saw so much potential in this one, but he is the head producer of a tv show that i watch pretty frequently, so it's like i can't even escape it all. we talked a lot about it and i know all about things on the show, so now whenever i hear about it or see it, i'm always going to think of him. boo.

Oh I know - I don't know if I have ever been in a non-difficult boy situation!! when love is involved, it's always difficult!!

For my abs, I just do a few things a personal trainer showed me using the exercise ball.

One of them you lay down, extend your arms straight above your head, grip the ball between your feet, raise the ball up and place it in your hands and lower your feet to the ground. then raise your legs and put ball back between your feet and lower your legs back down to ground. count that as one. do 12 of them, three sets.

the other one - have the ball in front of you, kneel on ground, rest forearms on ball. push/roll ball out in front of you keeping your back as straight as possible, then roll back in. count as one. do 12 of them, three sets.

both are very ouchy but effective!

i just need to be a bit more disciplined with myself. i honestly am barely on a diet. the only thing i've been good about and not slacking off too much on is the going to the gym at least 3 times a week (well, except last fri i skipped).
i've never worked with an exercise ball. i assume you mean one of those giant inflatable things you can sit on. If i have the motivation this afternoon, i'll give this a shot.
and boys, sheesh. love not even involved this time but it was still difficult. just wish i wouldn't see signs of him every time i turn on the tv. well, not every time, but often enough to be problematic.

ok did 5.5 miles yesterday with 2 mins walking at the 40 min mark. then walked it out to 6 miles. not bad. then i came home and ate two soft steak tacos and a wanton soup, but we don't need to talk about that.
