I was just wondering, I got my period yesterday, and I weighted myself this morning, and I was a pound heavier. Is this normal to experience during that time of the month?

Very normal and common. I usually gain about 1 pound pre-TOM and another 1-2 pounds during.

Upwards of 5 lbs for me! I stay far, far away from the scale until it's all said & done.

When we have our period we retain water. Which, one of the ingredients in Midol is caffine which helps to get rid of some of it.. but we do retain. And plus we're hungry more.. and eat more chocolate LOL.. but it usually goes back down. I don't weigh myself when I have TOM, I just wait until its done.

It's very normal, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating. I've just finished my TOM, and the scale has not been friendly at all. Then again, I keep having to pull up my pants because they're getting loose. What a world!

How annoying. My TOM is now and I gained 3 lbs that aren't budging this week. Aaaargh. I have the feeling I'm going to have to start over on these pounds.

i noticed that it feels really good after your peak TOM and like 5 lbs are gone overnight.
i struggled with the gain over the last couple days. i forgot to add a whole week from my last cycle, so i didn't even consider the gain would be TOM. glad i did the math again. the terrible munchies clued me in.
like Dovey, my pants and rings are getting looser, so im not going to stress.

Well, Im a bit backwards.....

about 2 days before tom arrives, my body goes into elimination mode! kwim? ;) I usually loose a lb or 2 right before, then hope that over the week I dont put it back on. Sometimes Im successful, sometimes not.

I sometimes even bloat for a few days after it is over, then see my weight drop back down to where it was before "that week". I gain anywhere from 3-5 lbs. and I should have known better, but Friday I decided to torment myself by weighing, KNOWING I would show a gain due to TOM, and of course I did show a 3 lb gain and I was even crankier than before and I weighed in at the gym like I always do. Next month I will be kinder and gentler to myself!!!

Thank you all for mentioning this. It just occured to me last week that this may be happening. I swear I ate no more than my points and not even all of my flex points and I gained +8. It was only week 3. I was so bummed. My cycle is all over the place so I need to pay attention better. Felt better after I figured out the period deal.

I am the oddball. I gain during ovulation and usually have a whoosh of weight loss around my period.

I'm having my TOM right now. I'm very bloated and haven't weighed myself. I'm not going to until its over. The other nice thing is that the battery went on our scale and its an oversized watch battery so we don't have one lying around. So that makes it easier to not weigh in.. I can't LOL.
I also forgot to mention, exercise helps to get rid of some of the retention and bloating. Even if you have no motivation, do a little bit, that will help!!
Good job working through it guys!!

Yes, I think I probably gain several pounds during TOM too. We bought a new scale and I thought it was the scale...didn't think about TOM!! I think we should get EXTRA points during this time ;) I'm going to do what the others do and stay away from the scale during that time!

Completely normal! I usually gain 3-5 pounds about a day before it shows it's ugly face... I know a lot is retaining water, so I am going to try to drink a lot of water a few days before and during & continue working out to try to sweat some out!

I'm weighing in tomorrow to start week 3. It's that TOM and I'm very worried I won't show a loss!! I know i feel like I gained 5 lbs overnight, but I'm hoping the scale doesn't show it!!

Yes this happens to me too. Drinking loads of water (like a gallon a day) helps a little.

UGH, yes.

Last week was my second weigh in, and like a fool..I weighed in on the DAY I started my TOM. The scale didn't go up but I only lost .2...which I am still proud of since any loss is awesome!

But anyway, I weigh in again tomorrow and I can tell by my home scale that I have gone down signifigantly, so we shall see what the WW scale actually says. But I am optimistic that it was just that week for me.

:(I've been at a stand still for a few days so I must be retaining water in anticipation of TOM...:(

okay i did some more searching.... i thought that everyone was supposed to drink 8 glasses of water a day but this didnt sit well with me... how can a 125 lb gal and me at 204 have the same requirements for water? so i read that... take your weight, divide in half and thats how many ounces we should be drinking. so at 204, i drink 102 ounces, which is just shy of 13 glasses a day... ugh i know..... so i started yesterday, and i drank 12 glasses. im going to keep this up for a few weeks to see if it does make a difference. we'll see lol....

I'm about the same. It's more my few days pre TOM that I'm up, and then back down during. I'll see for sure at tomorrow's weigh-in as it is still during.

I'm up a few pounds a few days before TOM and back down during. I can accept that, but those awful, overwhelming cravings for fast food and sugar get the better of me WAY too often.

That stinks!!! but just remember when TOM departs, you will go back down. For me that hasn't happened yet and he is almost gone.....aaaaarrrrrrgggggg!!!

The BEST way to figure out what is happening is to graph your weightloss. I use this free online tool at www.fridgegraph.com

It takes a few weeks of graphing to see what is going on. For me, I am definitely on a cycle of low to mild gain every 4th week followed by a week of good loss. It really helps to see it on a graph...

Good thread! I actually started WW last Monday (a week ago) and TOM started the same day. I was sooo mad lol but once I made the commitment to start WW I was gonna stay on. Well I did splurge one day and went over my fp for the week but I still managed to lose 3.5 lbs last week! yay!! I hope that continues and next month I don't see a gain!

So thankful for this thread! I keep checking the scale. I know that I am retaining water but I want to see my progress (im hopeful) from my work last week. Its hard to step away from the dang scale...and the brownies too. OH man have I been craving.

You can typically put on 1-4 lbs. during a period. I put on several usually. Think about it, water rentention among other stuff that your body is doing. The trick is curbbing those pesky cravings that come with that special friend and up your water in-take. We'll see how I do on this next one!

TOM was knocking at my door at last week's weigh-in but I managed to still lose 1.4 pounds. Weigh-in is tomorrow so I'll see what effect the visit had!
