Default A little worried

I know our weight can fluctuate daily but this morning I weighed myself (not official until Monday) and I have gained a pound, possibly verging on two.

I started phase 2 on Monday. I have kept up my veggie and water intake and have added 1/2 cup cooked quinoa in the evening. I haven't had any ricotta cremes and have been eating similarly.

I am kind of nervous that the grain might have made me gain. I am not getting discouraged until my WI on Monday but it sucks nonetheless.

Should I have cut down on other things to avoid a gain?

Thanks for letting me vent.

you should post more of what you have been eating to get some advice from lots of people here... also, grains are a harder thing to add back in, IMO... I think there are ideas in the FAQ section on what and how to begin adding things back into your diet... There are many things that can cause gains too- more than likely unless you have been eating a lot more that is just water weight caused from something, could be increased exercise, salty foods, tom...etc...

Good luck on figuring it out! Just keep chuggin along and the weight will come off!

You didn't *gain* a pound, you simply weigh a pound more - there's a difference. Gaining a pound of fat is the result of eating 3500 excess calories. Weighing a pound more can be from hormones, fluid weight, constipation, etc.
Also, remember almost everyone gains when they start phase 2. Why? On phase 1, we eliminate carbs. When we eliminate carbs, our bodies release all of its stored glycogen. Glycogen stores a lot of water, so as the glycogen is released, the water is too resulting in the "quick" loss on phase 1, which is mostly water.
As soon as you add carbs back in (quinoa), your body stores glycogen (which is NEEDED) and as a result, the glycogen stores water - again, this is necessary.
Dont fret over the scale going up because your body replaced some of the necessary water it needs to do its job. As long as you are following plan, you are not gaining fat, and that's all we need to be concerned with.

Thanks I think I am going to completely cut added salt. That might be my problem.

I will add some sample meals from this week of phase 2.
B: 2 eggs, 2 slices peameal bacon
Sn1: celery stick with wedge of laughing cow cheese
L: Salad with spinach, peppers, green onion, cucumber, tomatoes and purple cabbage, usually with chicken or tuna. Oil and vinegar dressing.
Sn2: nuts and cheese stick
S: roasted veggies with olive oil, chicken and quinoa. One day I had a pasta salad type deal from Kayln's Kitchen with a bit of mayo/nf plain yogurt, curry, veggies, chicken and quinoa.

I didn't have the quinoa last night just to make sure I wasn't overdoing it.

It could be the salt.

Also how much olive oil should I have per day. I don't have my book with me here at work. I don't use huge amounts so that shouldn't be the problem and I haven't been eating too much cheese. I might cut the cheese stick out in the afternoon though.

Thoughts?

You're right, I do realize that my weight can fluctuate but I am just a bit worried that I am doing something wrong since I was losing nicely.

I have screwed up on phase 2 before but I am not craving nor am I extra hungry this time around so I am sure I am doing everything correctly.

Not sure how many nuts you're eating either- thats always a downfall for me! I have to count them out and put them away or I really get carried away! Sounds like you know what you are doing... don't sweat the small stuff, if you are eating healthy and good portions you will lose

I take a small handful, maybe 10-15 and that's it.

Thanks, I am just going to keep doing what I am doing and cut out my extra salt (I'm a salt fein) and see how it goes.

Thanks for your help

Thanks, the majority was lost a few years back and I am struggling something awful now... lol. Haven't posted new weight since before the holidays, making myself get back down to where I was before!!! I am almost right there with ya- I weighed in recently at 210... and thats disturbing to me- but I know I have earned them with all the wine and oh so bad for me foods I ate... but the important thing is never give up! and I am more determined than ever now! Especially since spring is coming up and I am a warm natured person to begin with so when summer hits sleeveless shirts are what I love! my flabby arms don't need to be hanging out anymore~!!!
We can do this!

I know, I used to be 140 and thought I was HUGE and "dieted" my way to the weight I am now. Grrr.

I am very determined this time as well. I am trying to be positive but at the same time not jinx myself (somehow I believe I do this!) and keep on trying.

The holidays can be dreadful but with your attitude you will be back down in no time!

Great explanation thinking thin! Very clear and to-the-point.

don't fret ozziesgirl, these little fluctuations can drive us crazy.

rdw, you are not the only one suffering from the holiday hangover!

Thanks Schmoodle, I won't let it get to me. This is why I try to only weigh in once a week. haha

I love this: It's easier to stay on plan than to get back on plan.

I read in your siggy that last week and have actually been saying it to myself all the time. It's so true!

If you are really worried, my advice would be to stick to one serving of cheese daily, step on the scale only once per week if necessary- first thing in the am, after peeing and before eating, don't skip your beans or your dairy, and eat as many veggies as you can. also, even though i'm pretty familiar with what my grain/starch servings look like, I still like to use a measuring cup when getting a scoop so i'm sure i'm not overdoing it. i don't know if anyone answered your olive oil question, but its 1 tblspn at lunch and dinner, and 1/2 tbl at breakfast - i think. it might be just 1/2 tsp at bfast.
