I bounce around from forum to forum here, partially because there are so many to choose from and partially because i fit into 5 or 6 topics!

i've pretty much cut out all sweets from my diet as of the first of the year, but i still find other foods to over eat .

I thought it might help me to start a "Just for today" thread. and if anyone else wants to jump in, cool :cool:

My biggest struggle in my weight loss has always been over eating. if i could just learn to eat well, I'd be on my way. Also, i don't feel like i could be successful at any diet and exercise regimine untill i get my eating habits in control.

Like, tonight i ate over half a bag of baked lays. you see? even though they are baked and are marketed toward dieters, i will still binge on them. At least i stopped at half a bag though, right?

so anyway, just for tomorrow my goal will be just for today, i will not over eat.

i do that too... i have no portion control. yikes. im in a low carb diet, its the only one that works for me because i can fill my stomach and still lose weight. ive tried almost EVERYTHING (including abstaining from food altogether. not healthy) -- and this is the only way ive been able to lose weight. if i do need a binge. adleast i can binge on low carb food. and not have to regret much later.

im slowly changing though.. and i work on it everyday. its a battle EVERY day EVERY meal. but one day i will be 'normal'. or so i hope.

thanks for all the great threads BTW... ive been reading them all!

Hi guys,

it's going well so far. as long as i can get through dinner and just eat a normal amount of food. doesn't sound so hard, does it?

i'm with you nayex, every little change counts for something. I mean, i'm no longer stopping to buy a bag of fun sizes everyday on the way home from work to binge on. i haven't had any candy (ANY candy) since the begining of the year. even though i haven't lost any weight, i have to believe that i am still doing some good. It counts somehow. it's all about breaking bad habits, and building new ways of thinking, eating and living, right?

I can do this, it's only for one day.

I almost did it. i almost bought binge food after work. that is my hardest time.
but i remembered the promises i made here, just one day.
If only everyone in the grocery store could have known the battle that was going on inside my head:

i want chips and guacamole.
no, you have fish defrosting at home that's going to go to waste if you don't eat it.
I'll just start tomorrow. i did good yesterday, maybe i can just do every other day.
No, you're never going to have loose pants again if you think that way.
I'll get organic chips and salsa.
That's still over eating.
Remember, you want to be thin.
Do I?
Maybe i really want chips and guac.
If i overeat, i'm just going to waste the rest of the evening doing nothing.
Don't i want to be free of this eating obsession?
Maybe i'd rather just escape life altogether, give me some chips and guac.
How can i not find anything to enjoy in life beside food? wouldn't i be happier if i ate well?

*sigh, this is already so hard for me, why am i making it harder? Just stick to your healthy dinner plan. You don't need to temp yourself with visions of chips and dip.


So in the end i won out:) I'm having a cod fillet from trader joes, a baked potato, lettuce tomato and broccoli sprouts.
and for dessert, frozen berries and a bannana.

Once i make it home and throw dinner in the oven, then i'm normally ok for the rest of the night.

Huh, this is going to be uphill for a while......:halfempty

Just for today I wont depress myself over the weight I've gained after my hard work on losing weight the first time. Instead I'm going to focus myself on getting the weight off again and keeping it off for longer than a year or two. I want a long term cycle that will prevent me from gaining weight again. *sigh* ^_^

I had the same schedule today as yesterday, but after work it was so much easier to decide to go home and prepare a healthy meal than to get the food i was craving (today it was taco bell). I hope it will just get easier, but i'm sure there will be more struggles yet to come. I wonder too if there will ever be a day where i feel like i have overcome my compulsions to eat?

the dinner i have planned is very much the same as yesterday. i will have to come up with some different meal ideas for tomorrow though.

If i make it the rest of the day, it will be 3 days without over eating.

Just for today, i will finish out the day with just a small salmon salad, and herbal coffee to stay within my calorie range.
(I also have already done my swimming-woohoo :) )

I will take time to relax when i get off work and i will take 30 minutes before going to bed to wind down and relax.

Great thread "just for today." I will go the AA meeting tonight and listen with ears that apply to overeating. The last meeting I did relate to some things that were being said. So far I have been totally absinent today. Went crazy yesterday and it hit me at 2 in the morning when I was having serious anxiety why. This too shall pass and I will calm down. I can sure see how being upset affects my body big time but sometimes my mind will not be told to calm down no matter what I do. Glad to be able to post on this thread. I may be back.

well, today is almost gone. i did workout today, so i did do something positive for my health and wellbeing today.

so for tomorrow:
just for today i will be mindful of what i eat, and how full i am. and i will log it all in my diary.

in ayurveda i think it was, there is a guideline not to eat more than the amount of food that could fill your 2 cupped hands a one sitting/meal.

Just for today I will try to be done with eating. I have had plenty and a bit too much of high carb. May not loose an ounce by tomorrow. Just for today I will try to do whatever it takes to loose that one more pound this week, by Friday at the latest. We'll see. Doing all right but want to do a bit better.
