I have been participating in 5K's on the military base that just happen to usually coincide with EZ's 5k challenges. The base is having one on the 13th so great timing. I just try to beat the last time I had. There are no winners and losers here on 3FC you win be getting out there and doing it. I was doing the Couch to 5K training but I just haven't been able to get out and do it lately.

I know there are no winners or losers, I don't think I implied that in my post. Anyways I'm loving this challenge, training is forcing me to haul my butt faster! Lastnight I ran the 5k on the treadmill to see what I was working with and did it in 27:25. I wanted to do the actual challenge outside but I think it'll be a lot slower because of all the streetlights and people on the sidewalks. Or I might find a good stretch of path with not too much snow that I could run on. Hmmm things to think about. Anyways I'm pumped! I've never ran a distance and actually timed myself.

SM177 ~ I think Willow (Amanda) was just replying to the question in your post "Are you training/goals?" by saying what she had done. I think the no losers/winners was just encouraging others to join in....not something regarding your post.

i've never done this kind of thing before, but i'd like in...assuming my shin splints chill out. how does this work exactly? do you guys warm up first and not count that towards the distance? or should i just include the distance i slow jog in warm up as part of my 5K?
I've been running 5k three times a week since January 1st, this should be a piece of cake.

You are #28 SWS....you may do the 5K anyway you wish! It's all for you! My wife and I just start out walking and go about an hour which is usually around 3.25 miles for us with our dogs....unless we enter a real race...then we warm up then do the 5K. Anyway you want to do yours is fine. Welcome :)

great. think i will actually try and warm up separately and then go for speed as a personal experiment. looking forward to it. unfortunately i'm not able to get back to the gym until next monday due to social commitments.
Ok. So there's a 5K in Prospect Park again. I guess its technically 3.3 miles, but all good. Same route as the one I skipped on New Years. But, if we get lucky enough to have the weather we had yesterday, high 40s, low 50s...then I'm in for doing this outdoors. BUT...I will say...if its colder than siberia out I'm clocking mine on the treadmill. Its not the running the 5K outdoors part that bugs me so much, its getting my butt to Prospect Park in running clothes and checking in and getting to the start...that's when you are freezing and questioning your sanity. And that's when I get in 'drop out mode.' 40 degrees or above, outdoor 5K. 40 or below, treadmill 5K. So...in any event, count me in! But I'll let ya know how when its over. ;)

Well, my training was going amazingly well, and I was looking forward to racing 5k this Friday to check my progress, but earlier this week I developed shin splints and had to take a week off. So, I'll probably be able to run it still if I take it really slow and easy, and if not I guess I'll be speedwalking and timing myself that way.
Or I could try water jogging it. Wonder how long that would take me... :D

oops. I hadn't checked in here for a while. But the "5K" at Prospect Park are usually one lap around the outer loop...which is 3.3 miles. Its actually Feb, 15th at 10:00. You can register tomorrow bet. 3 PM and 5 PM at Slope Sports on 7th Ave. Or you can register at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Prospect Park Southwest and 10th Street. The nearest subway is the F to 7th Ave. Hope to see you there fellow chicky! It looks like it will be a fairly nice day!
