WW Clubs and Groups - T.G.I.THURS/Almost wknd.View Full Version : T.G.I.THURS/Almost wknd. Grace, Grace 05-09-2002, 08:51 AM I will be back to post so that I don't post a thread the same time someone else does :o Grace, Grace 05-09-2002, 09:04 AM Well Ladies, It is Thursday. I am quite optimistic this A.M. because the wknd is "only a day away" (In my best theatrical Annie voice). It is so dark here. I just realized that is looks like it is about 8 o'clock at night. Scary, I guess I should check the weather. Oh well anyways. How did we all finish up yesterday? I finished well. I am trying to limit my carbs b/c I realized that almost all of my points are carbs. OOPS. Does anyone else do this. You know "The Right Mix" thing. I seriously never have before. Well I have never really stuck with the plan before either though. I am going to attempt to pull an 11 hr day in order to be prepared for the audit so I will be around. Lets have a big posting day :strong: Ooh big lightning and thunder. This would be one time I am not glad that I have the corner office with 2 windows:^: B/f went to the Pistons Play off game last night so after choir I had an alone night. I just love those, sometimes. I read magazines and just vegged out. I know it sound kind of dull but I would love to have time to do that more often. Well sorry ladies not a whole lot of excitment going on in these parts ;) I will check in later. Hope we are all doing well on the Swimsuit challenge :) Becky Kirsty 05-09-2002, 09:28 AM hi girls, sorry for not posting these past few days but things were v busy in the office after the bank holiday weekend. i had a really nice time off work, sadly the weather wasn't up to much but my friend and i made some great cocktails! i've been gradually getting back into exercise (it's amazing how tough it is when you've been ill for a couple of weeks). i started training for my 5k in june. i want to run the whole thing, but at a fairly decent speed. i'm aiming for 6 miles per hour, which isn't fast by most runners' standards, but it's fast for me! today was DAY 2 of my running plan - run for 2 mins, walk for 4 and repeat 5 times. it went surprisingly ok (didn't feel as tough as DAY 1, which was run 1 min, walk 1 min, repeat 10 times). hope everyone is doing well and shedding those pounds in time for summer! i have to go work, but hopefully i'll get back later on. if not, i'll chat more tomorrow (FRIDAY!). kirsty ps becky- by all means cut down on your carbs, but be careful you don't cut them out too much. these low-carb, high-protein diets aren't good in the long-term. you'll get halitosis (at best) and you'd be at a greater risk from kidney failure/heart attacks. lexxy2 05-09-2002, 10:06 AM Hey Becky and Kirsty, morning everyone else, The weather here is going crazy too - we are supposed to have "severe" storms tonight which could mean hail and tornados. This is ridiculous, the third time in 3 weeks for tonorado warnings - hello, I live in DC, not Kansas. It also means that my kickball game will most likely be canceled, which is a bummer. Ah well, I'm sure all the teams will still go out to our sponsor bar. I could use some time to finish packing anyway - I leave for Tampa tomorrow morning for my sister's college graduation. I am going to eat like a normal person and exercise while I'm there, I have to! It would kill me to come back and have gained wieght, so I'm not going to let that happen :strong: Ok, enough of that - I did well yesterday with my eating and my exercising. I used to have a goal of eating 1400 calories a day - and lets be honest, I rarely ever met it. So I have upped my intake to 1500-1700 range and I'm going to see how I do with that. It's MUCH easier to eat within that range, so lets hope I can still lose weight with that many calories (not sure how many points that translates to - probably a lot though). I ran last night, and it felt great. I think someone wrote a few days ago that they don't know why they don't exercise more often because they feel so good afterwards - I second that! :D Kirsty, 10 miles is fast for me too! I think I did 3 miles in 33 mins last night, and I was pushing myself a bit. I'll be working with you on the other side of the pond to get that down to 30 mins. Well, going to go do some work. Kirsty 05-09-2002, 10:10 AM maybe that can be our new challenge lexxy - running 3 miles in 30 mins. i would love to be able to! moonbeam 05-09-2002, 11:04 AM Hey everyone! Lexxy and Grace I am so jealous of you with the thunderstorms! We haven't gotten any of the good big summer thunderstorms here yet, and I really like to watch them (as long as nobody gets hurt!). And Grace, I know what you mean about too many carbs! I am not a big fan of the high-protein diets (so unhealthy!), but I think I have definitely been letting my carbs go out of control! If I binge, it is almost always on carbs (hello chocolate chip cookies!) Anyway I was almost thinking aout not going for my walk/run today, but you ladies have totally inspired me! I have a 3 mile route that I do, mostly walking with some running intervals. I'm working on making th running longer and the walking faster. Right now the whole thing takes about 40 minutes, which I guess is better than when I used to walk the whole thing in just under an hour (yeah, I'm a slug, I know!). So anyway, I am definitly going to do that and also walk to the library to drop off some books. Anybody have some healthy snack ideas? I usually snack a lot on carrots if I'm being "good" (or cereal if not). Any other easy raw veggies I can try? Sometimes I feel if I et any more carrots I may turn into one! Cat star19600 05-09-2002, 12:01 PM Good morning all. I'm continuing with the job search yet again.... And I went out last night, which was cool, but there were so few people out on ladies' night, it was weird. Campus is definitely deserted. I had to help one of my friends celebrate because she found a job, and man did she celebrate. On the food front, not so good again. I really need to take control of that, but I worked out a bunch yesterday, so I hope it all evens out eventaully. I went for a walk in between rainstorms for an hour (4-5 miles?), went to the gym for an hour, and did this pilates/yoga thing in teh shape magazine. So I'm kinda sore today, I think I'll just take a walk later. I'm actually supposed to be meeting my roommate at the gym an hour ago, but I overslept, so I hope she doesn't wait too long. and I also know what you guys mean about too much carbs. I think that if I were given the choice between ice cream and a big bowl of mashed potatoes, I don't even know what I'd choose! Comfort foods, I guess, but I get so full when I eat too much of them, and then I feel awful later. So I'm trying to put more veggies in everything. That's kinda what I cut out when I started this whole eating-healthy thing... Instead of eating chicken, salad, and a potato/noodle thing for supper, I'd just have the chicken adn salad. Trust me, over lunch I'd get enough carbs to even it out with a sandwich or something. and it worked, but I need to seriously get back on track. And I need to start buying the smaller pizzas, because I just don't have the willpower sometimes and need to keep the food out of my refrigerator! Wow, this turned into a book, so I'm going to end it here! cristina 05-09-2002, 12:53 PM Hi! Just got back from using the gym downstairs. Walked 3.5 mph for 30 min, some of that on incline, some flat. Burned 220 calories! Grace Grace - I have a HUGE problem with carbs. We plan out our weekly menu on the weekend and a few weeks back we had picked pasta dishes for every night, which usually carries over to leftovers for lunch the next day. Well, needless to say by the end of the week, even though I had stayed within points, I hadn't shed a pound. I didn't gain any either, but it was a wasted week. Since then I've been careful to alternate a good variety of dinners....like tonight is chicken, last night was a tofu stirfry, before that turkey meatloaf... I find that works best for me. moonbeam - I like to snack on the grape tomatoes. I carry them in a ziplock bag to work. Yum! lexxy2 05-09-2002, 12:59 PM Kirsty, great idea, I'm in! Just a quick post to say hi to everyone - I just finished my lunch, one of the new lean cuisine bowls. It was pretty good, chicken caesar pasta. They are just way too expensive though - I got them half price plus had a coupon (my mom sends me some occasionally!), so it was a good deal. It's a lot easier for me to eat one of these for lunch then to try to come up with something low calorie that's not salad or doesn't go bad in a couple days. Anyway, cat, I also like to snack on celery, apples, tangerines, string cheese and occasionally some egg whites. I can't do pretzels or even rice cakes because I will just way overeat with those. I do eat air-popped popcorn a lot - usually for dinner or something. I can eat a ton of it at a time. I use I can't believe it's not butter spray and either red pepper flakes or these popcorn cheese toppings from Harry and David (with no nutrional info of course!) I count it as using grated parmesan. It all goes back to the carbs....at least with popcorn I'm getting some fiber and I can eat a large volume of it, as opposed to a couple of those big hard pretzels. TonyaLyn 05-09-2002, 01:43 PM Hello ladies!! I am finally starting to feel better, thank god!! I found a great water to drink (when you get tired of drinking 70+ oz. of water a day....) Veryfine Fruit 2 O it is water with no calories sweetend with Splenda. I bought cherry today, it takes awesome!!!! Lexxy ~ I agree with the LC, UB, bowls, I love them and they are great and easy to eat for lunch, but if you don't get them on special, they are costly!! Cristina ~ Way to go on the walk!! I love walking, great way to burn fat.... Star ~ I know what you mean about the bars and such being dead. Next week is exam week here on campus, and after that, no one will be at the bars!! Good luck with the job search.... Cat ~ I live in Wis., you can have all of our thunderstorms, we get some good ones.... Kirsty ~ Glad to have you back, we missed you! Becky ~ How are the wedding plans coming? Well, I have been better than OP lately. With this lovely cold, I havent had the desire to eat at all, so that is one positive point!! I am trying to get all my water in today, I have slacking on that. I am getting busy at work again, lots of summer projects starting. That is good though. Today I am waiting to hear from our bank as to the appraisal of our house plans. I sure hope that it comes in at what the house will cost to build, can't afford to make up the difference!! Keep your fingers crossed for me!! DH is still gone. It has been really hard this week since I have been so sick...I think I am subconsciously very angry at him for having the job he does. Oh well, he will be back working regular days next month. I will be glad, my kids don't even remember they have a dad (LOL!) Well, better get back to the grind. Oh Jen, I hope you have a great time in Vegas, if you haven't left yet. Go see "The Thunder from Down Under" for me, please!!!!!!!!!!! :D star19600 05-09-2002, 01:50 PM Tonya -- the lemon VeryFine fruit O2 stuff is awesome too! Horsey girl 05-09-2002, 02:26 PM Ooooo! Popcorn seasonings. The nutritional info on mine (from Kernels a Canadian popcorn chain) - says 0pts for the Salt and vinegar, ketchup, BBQ, and dill pickle - the white cheddar has some fat content so it might not be 0 pts. But all that sodium should probably count for something. I'm just a big lurker today. I'll be back later KT JKarr 05-09-2002, 03:49 PM I'm a big lurker too today, just like KT! Sorry.... Becky - Sounds like you had a nice, relaxing night. Doesn't sound at all dull to me! I eat pretty well balanced, so I notice myself feeling pretty sluggish if I eat too many carbs. If I know I am having pasta for dinner, I will have yogurt for breakfast instead of cereal or oatmeal - it just helps me balance everything out. Kirsty - Yes, a few weeks off of exercising certainly does make it difficult when you come back. Good luck training for your 5K. I'm sure you'll get to the 10 minute mile mark!! Lexxy - Just think of all of the people that can't run 3 miles at all. Your 33 minutes isn't bad. Have fun in Tampa!! Cat - I am a big fan of snacking on raw bell peppers - green, red, yellow and orange! Not only do they look pretty mixed in a bag :) , but they are all so yummy! I have eaten 6 bell peppers since Monday! Angie - Good luck with the job search. I also didn't have a job right out of college, so I spent the summer coaching soccer and waiting tables! Enjoy your free time while you have it. Sometimes being a full-time working adult is not all it's cracked up to be! ;) Cristina - Great job with the exercise! (and I love tofu stir-fry - yum!) Tonya - Glad you're starting to feel better. It has got to be so hard to go home from work and take care of your kids when all you want to do is lie down. Hang in there! When will your hubby be back? Oh, I haven't tried those veryfine fruit waters, but I did have the new water by Gatorade (Propel, I think) after my run on Sunday - I had the lemon flavor and thought it was great! Work is busy, busy, busy and I'm still pretty crabby (the dreary weather does it to me all the time) but the thought of the martinis that await me tomorrow after work is keeping me going! I'm going to take a 4 mile run after work, which always lifts my spirits. I swear, it is the best thing for my overall well being that I have ever found. Much cheaper than therapy! kimobi 05-09-2002, 04:04 PM Sorry girls, I tried to post yesterday and it wouldn't let me! I have such problems getting this site to load properly. Anyway ... Lexxy: Do you play organized kickball? That is so cool! How does it work? Cat: Don't wish too much for the weather we've been having in Virginia! The last two storms have generated tornadoes ... in one, a tornado went through a nearby city and caused a lot of damage, took off a church steeple, collapsed houses, but no one was injured. A few people were injured in the next county, though. Like Lexxy said, it's hard to believe we've been getting weather like this. Especially where I am ... in Southwest Virginia, where there are mountains. I do love the thunderstorms, though. We had one last night. It's funny: whenever it thunders, my dogs hide in the bathroom! (By the way, did I say welcome to the group?) Tonya: What does your husband do again? I'm with you at feeling subconciously angry at my BF's job. Sometimes I'm not that subtle about it, either. I've said this before, but he works nights, I work days, and he also works Sunday through Thursday, so I only see him Friday night, Saturday and the occasional lunch during the week. I'm asleep when he comes home, he's asleep when I leave for work. It SUCKS. He's had this job for a year and a half and I was tired of it a long time ago. With the journalism job market like it is, though, there's not much to do now. Well, girls, I believe I've recommitted myself ...again. I'm not rejoining WW, but I did get an eTools code from a friend and signed up with that again. I'll use it for keeping a journal and figuring out points. I went over points yesterday because I didn't realize how much an Applebee's salad was, but I'm doing OK today. My first goal is June 22 —*I'm going to a wedding and would like to be 15 lbs. down by then, at 173. That would be one pound over the weight I was the very first time I joined WW, in 1993! Well, I better get some work done. I've been procrastinating much of the day! Hi to everyone ... Kirsty, Jen, KT, Becky, Stacey, Winter, I know I'm missing someone, so hi! Grace, Grace 05-09-2002, 05:48 PM Wow so many posts and this is the first time I have had a chance to get on since this am. My day has been pretty hectic. I guess I have to have the charts ready tomorrow that we plan on using for the audit . Oh well I didn't stress eat believe it or not. We had a going away party for our interns and I had a 1/4 of a piece of cake but that is amazing since usually I would have been back to the kitchen for 2nds and it works into my pts. I still have 10 left for the day. It is amazing how many carb addicts we have. Thus far today I had the bite of cake and a 1/2 pita and those were my only carbs. Unless there are carbs in things that I am not aware of which is possible. Anyways, I really don't have time to respond to all of the posts but thanks for not making me feel alone on the carb front and we will just battle those evil carbs together:mad: Nothing new with the wedding plans Tonya, but thanks for asking:D. Oh I am going bridesmaid dress shopping with my 3 sisters and 1 of my bridesmaids on saturday so that will be a blast of course. I have great sisters and my friend is hysterical. I cannot wait! Oh well back to work! Becky vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
