Default Is there such a thing as too much exercise?

Let me explain, I work at a senior center where there is a wonderful, state-of-art wellness center. Each day I have been working out for 20 minutes during lunch - 10 on bike and 10 on eliptical...and then doing 20 more minutes on the eliptical, 10 more on bike, and a few misc. abdomen, arm, and leg machines after I get off at 4. A few seniors have stopped me and told me I better slow it down because I might over do it, but I feel fine. Matter of fact, I feel great!

So please help me break it down, is there such a thing as too much exercise?

Is there such a thing? Yes. Are you doing it? No. Not even close.

"Overtraining Syndrome" is what happens when you train beyond your body's ability to recover. It can have some nasty effects and you definitely want to avoid it. You can read more about it here: http://sportsmedicine.about.com/cs/o.../aa062499a.htm

But 40 minutes a day of ANYTHING, even for those just starting out, isn't likely to cause overtraining problems.

Ignore them and keep going...you're doing awesome.

Maybe they just forget what it's like to have your energy? It sounds like you're doing great.
