30-Somethings - ~Week of May 5th~Do a Daily nice thing JUST FOR YOU!

05-05-2002, 10:06 AM
Good morning my friends! Hope everyone is doing well. It is early here but what else is new. I am up at the crack of dawn every day. So why sleep on the weekends? Oh I just wish my body would let me.

Since I know we all take care of others in our lives. This week lets do something that is just for us every day. And post it here so we can see what we did. Whether it is sit and read a book, go for a walk, makes a healthy meal. We need to take care of ourselves and then we have more to give to others!

Well I am going to go and get some eggs, I want to make an omelet this morning and I have no eggs or milk for that matter.

Have a wonderful day!!

Hi everyone!

Well I have had quite a week so let's see what I can tell you? First, I finally broke through the 150's and as of this morning officially weigh exactly 149 pounds!! Woohoo! I am so happy about this. Given, it's taken me about an extra 3 months to do it but so what? Slow and steady wins the race right? I was thrilled yesterday when I saw it and again today so it must be true. I'm only 5 pounds away from my post-honeymoon weight (not sure exactly what I weighed when I got married but I'm probably 10 pounds away from that. My second exciting news is that we bought the house!! Wow it was crazy for a while and I haven't slept well but it's a done deal. This may also have helped the weight loss but I'll take in anyway I can get it. We close on July 2nd so I guess I better get to packing. Well we actually have the inspection tomorrow so after that we'll know for sure everything is okay and we can go through with the purchase. As I said before it's not the perfect house because it's a bit small but it's all we can afford right now so if we want to get our foot in the door this is it. And we've seen such crap at the same price that it's nice to see a home in great condition. If anyone wants to see details let me know and I can give you a website to look at. Don't be disappointed at the size - Welcome to big city prices!!

Meikka - belated Happy Birthday!! It sounds like you had a lot of fun!

Bailey - whoopie pies and coke - yum!! Hope things are better these days.

Pryia - another great loss that's so exciting. It's so motivating when you see those losses at the beginning. I hope it keeps up for you.

Lyssa - that was interesting what you shared about the weight plateau but your clothes still fitting better. I'll try to remember that next time I hit a plateau (could be anytime now even though I just got over a big one :) )

Nanci - wow on you and your husband's total weight loss. so impressive. I think for my husband and I, we're at about 26 for me and 35 for him. I lost a little last spring and then we started together in the fall and then we both stalled out a bit since February but have managed to maintain.

Karen - 4 pounds!! Tell us your secret! Congrats.

Have a great day everyone,

05-06-2002, 09:38 AM
Hi everyone,
I survived another weekend! Yesterday I stayed home. Well except for the $150 trip to Walmart. I bought some material at $1 per yard to make curtains for my front porch. Always wanted to get some for in there but was not going to pay much for them. I love to sew, so today being my day off i get to sew curtains! Congratulations everyone on your weight losses this week! I am scared to death to even stand on the scale. I am supposed to weigh in today. But I think I am waiting until tomorrow. Today I am going to concentrate on veggies and water. Then I will weigh 1st thing in the morning. That at least will help me mentally I think. For some reason weight loss is a major mental game for me more than anything. :dizzy:
All this week I have to stay really with it and then stay focused all weekend. Our anniversary is Saturday and then of course Sunday is Mothers Day. Saturday there are 14 of us going out for dinner at a very nice restuarant. Unfortunately if I pay $30 for my plate of food iI order what I want not necessarily what I should eat. But all I have to do is plan, plan, plan. And try not to consume too much Wine. :p
That alcohol(any type) is bad stuff when you are trying to limit what you eat. :s:

05-06-2002, 12:30 PM
Elisa- YES, YES, please post the link!! I would love to see it!! Congrats on the purchase!! I'm soo excited for you!! :D :D :D

05-06-2002, 12:40 PM
Lauren - okay since you asked. I'm a bit emberrased because you never know what houses cost in different areas or cities so I hate to think people think I got some crappy house. The truth is it's really nice, just small but in great condition. And most importantly it's what we can afford. so anyway the website is www.mikeclarke.com On the home page on the left hand side you'll see a link for "red hot listings". Click that and you'll get a page with a few choices on it and a picture of a house underneath that says "check out the new hottest property" and that's my hosue. Click it and you'll get a couple of pictures and general information. If you want to see more pictures you have to go to "inside house tour". To do so you they ask for your name, phone number and email. You can leave the phone number blank and if you put in your email all they do is send you an email back. But I did try putting in a fake email and it worked fine too!! Let me know what you think!?!?!

05-06-2002, 03:26 PM
Elisa- Don't worry about what other people may think...it's yours!! :D Is it like a Duplex, or something? Like, is one side your house and the other side someone elses? It looks like some duplexes I've seen around my mom's. It's very cute! Very colorful, don't know that I'd use that much color, but hey, someone liked it, and maybe you do to. The floors look like they're in great shape!! In the pic of the MBR, is that basically the whole room, or does it go off to the sides? It looks like it does, but that might just be the windows. Congrats!! I hope the inspection went well!!

I don't know when the last time you moved is, or if you're sentimental, but if you are, get uncentimental!! It's a lot less stuff you have to move!!

05-06-2002, 06:03 PM
Elisa - I love it!!! Congrats! Looks like it is in great shape - I love the floors and the island in the kitchen. Would love to be able to get into a place like that - ENJOY.

Also, Lauren is right - "Throw it out, throw it out, throw it out" Just chant this while you are packing:D

05-06-2002, 06:50 PM
Hi all, I just learned something scarry. I can't tell what now, but for those of you who pray, please pray for me. I will share as soon as I know more info. Hopefully it is nothing, I am sure it is nothing, but will tell you all when I know for sure.

I had a wild weekend on food. My mom and dad took us out to dinner on Friday. I chose the healthiest thing I could, but I still ate more than I should. Saturday we went to a party with nothing healthy!!! All they had was hotdogs and chips. I ate one hot dog with only ketchup and mustard, and three potato chips. Then Sunday, we went to a friends house and had Spaghetti, garlic bread (loaded with butter) and salad. I just ate small portions. But that is the worst food weekend we have had since January 25 when we started this whole diet thing. But I am not worried, because I know that I am on this eating plan for life, not just for now. So I am eating what I should today, as I will do tomorrow.

Elisa - Nice house. I didn't look at the inside(may try that later) but I have recently found out that houses inside any city are outrageous, including Houston. It is the houses in the suburbs that are reasonable, but not in the city. I guess you are paying for the convienience of livivng in the city as well as for the house itself. Dh knows someone who lives in Ontario, and he has told dh how outrageous housing prices are. It must be a great place to live, though. Congrats on the weight loss too.

Meikka - How are the curtains? I used to sew, before I had 4 kids. I am sure I will sew again.

Pryia - WTG on the exercise!!! Just don't over do it, you could get sore muscles  like I didn't already know that. Hmm... what did I do for myself nice today? I exercised this morning, got back on my plan, and I chatted with a friend. I know it may not seem as nice to you as buying new shoes, but it was what I wanted to do.

Hello everyone else!!! Hope you all are having a nice day.

05-06-2002, 07:36 PM
Lys: I said a prayer. I know what you mean about bad food weekends. We had a show this last weekend so I never eat very well, I'm trying to do better.

I did take the boys to the zoo saturday so we did tons of walking. We're off to Oklahoma for a show on Thurs. We'll come back mon.

Ginger had her operation to lose her womanhood this morning. She is sleepy and embarrassed right now.

Its hot. My knee hurts. I may not walk tonight.

Still hovering around 171.

Elisa: I liked it!! I think I would enjoy living in a city for a short while...but I've got to have my yard and trees and country life.
I thought the colors were cool.

Got to make a few calls, jul

05-06-2002, 08:11 PM
Thanks everyone for all your kind words and good wishes about the house. It is small, it is right in the city and it's not a duplex, it's a semi-detached. Don't know about there but here a duplex is slightly different. We love most of the colours (they're better in person) but will repaint some. And the room with the bed is actually one of the other bedrooms. A single woman lives there and the room with the desk is actually the master bedroom. Anyway, we like a will be about a 10 minute walk to the beach which is cool. (even though you don't usually swim in the lake, it's got a great boardwalk with the best people watching).

Lyssa - I'm thinking about you and don't stress about the food weekend, we all do it once in a while. Just start fresh today. Good Luck.

05-06-2002, 10:35 PM
Lyss- I'm praying for you.

Elisa- That's cool that you're in the city and near a beach!! Now, I'm trying to picture a beach in Canada!! Forgive me for being soo completely ignorant, but growing up in New Jersey, spending my summers at the Jersey shore, I cannot for the life of me imagine what the beach looks like!! LOL, I relate Canada to snow, not beaches!! I know that is soo totally ridiculous of me... I love the lime green color...was actually thinking of that and purple for a nursery, or another small room, but not a large room. I couldn't think of what to call it, except duplex. Around here, I think duplexes are more like side by side two family houses.

Jul- Poor Ginger... :o Hope she's feeling better tomorrow. Did they keep her overnight, or send her home? When I worked at the animal hospital, we kept the girls overnight, but the boys went home same day.

Hi all!

Pryia, How fun with the new shoes. I have been having a bit of an issue with those lately.

Karen, Congrats on the awesome loss!

Elisa, Way to go on the 149. The house is very nice. I love the floors, we have hardwood floors and they could use a buffing. Looking at your floors has got me thinking. That is nice that you are so close to the beach.

Meikka, How did the curtains turn out? I bet you had fun.

Lyssalou, You are in my thoughts. It sounds like you have a fun weekend coming up. Make your plan and you will be fine.

Jul, Have fun in Oklahoma!

Things are fine here. I am feeling a bit under the weather so I am taking it easy tonight. DH went out with a friend so I have the house to myself.

Hey all, I am back up to 165. Maybe my scales have a catch in them that won't let it weigh less than 165. I am not worried, because I know I am doing everything right, including exercise, and besides, I think I am shrinking even if the scales are frozen. Muscle weighs more than fat!!! And muscle is what we want instead of the fat.

I am however having a hard time with increasing my calories. If you aren't hungry, it is hard to make yourself eat. But I am working on it. Maybe, I will just combine my snacks this afternoon. Eggs, FFcheese, FFham, and salsa, that would be a great snack for me. As a matter of a fact, I think I will eat that now instead of my lunch, and have my sandwich later as my snack. :)

Thank you all for your prayers, I am sure it is nothing, but I do need to have it checked out. I will tell you what's up as soon as I know if it is even anything to really worry about.

Rabbit - Don't worry about catching up, we are just glad you are back.

BPB - Please post, we love you.

Nanci - Hope you are feeling better today.

Elisa - I did look at the rest of your house, it is really nice. And so close to the beach!!! I think any property, anywhere, close to a beach would be high, I think you got a steal. I am sure you are going to love it. I would give anything to have a house of my own. I am part owner of my house (my brother the other owner), but since I don't own it out right, it really complicates doing anything to improve the house. Someday though, I will be posting about where ever it is we will move to. Congrats, and good luck.

Jul - Have a nice trip to Oklahoma. I bet those shows are fun. I know I enjoy going to art shows, just don't get to do it as often as I like.

Hope everyone else is having a great day. I better go eat, or I never will!!!

05-07-2002, 11:12 PM
Wow, y'all - just reread the beginning of this post and it is pretty sad and sorry, but this is where it's at! Gonna just hold my head high and plow onward!

Sorry not been around more. Bit of a slump here. My company is in serious trouble. Plus, still don't like the job. (So why don't you get a new one???). Hey great idea - must get on that.

Have a genetic eye disorder in my family which causes progressive loss of sight. They think I may have it. Have to go to the specialist, but it takes a few months to get an appointment. There is no treatment, there is no cure.

Been eating a ton - no exercise (including running) since saturday. Behind on everything. Up about 3 lbs.

Went to see a condo open house. $243K for 600 sq feet of basement ugly. Hmmm.

Other than that, things are great:lol: I know that there are some things I have no control over. Others, however, I can do something about! So: Plan is to get in all my H2O (the secret key to a great life) and 2 fruits and 3 veggies and a 1 mile run tomorrow. Plus, spend 30 min working on the "job thing". Other than that, I am giving myself the day "off".

My life is good in a lot of ways - must focus on those and do what I can about the areas that need improvement - don't dwell on the negative!

Jul: great on the exercise! Woo hoo 171 - I can hear the 160's sneakin up behind ya! Have fun in OK

Karen: Yeay on the loss! You are doing great.

Nanci: Congrats on the maintain! 28 WOW - I was just there but have creaped back up a little. Will join you again soon (although I hope you will be gone)

Lyssa: You are in my thoughts. Yeay on going down in size! Keep up all the great work. Don't worry about 1 bad w/e - you are making so many improvements. (RS = richard simmons tape)

LBH: Beaches in NJ? Never heard of such a thing - that would be like saying there are beaches in canada

BPB: Just keep shoping - when in doubt - always go shoping!

Rabbit: Happy bday to ds! Best of luck on the new start

RR: Have a great time on the cruise! LOL - the tickets to MY emotional rollercoaster are outrageous - and I am not even pg! Hope the recital was fun.

Elisa: Yeay on the 150's!!!! You have deserved it for a while - the house looks great. Enjoy.

Meikka: Oh - it is not easy when you have so many events going on - enjoy the anniv and mothers day. Remember - if you drink enough wine, you will forget to eat!

Pryia: Congrats to ds for bball game. Great op and losing!!! I know what you mean - I don't like to force the points in late either - I save them for "weekend treats":D LOVE the rasp ice stuff!

Have a great week all!

05-08-2002, 10:35 AM
Lauren: They did send her home with me same day because I have a crate for her to stay in on the front porch (or in the house) and because I promised not to put her in her kennel which is currently full of mud because of all the huge rain storms we've had. Shes doing very well. She is going to board at the vets for the weekend while we are gone to Oklahoma. She really hasn't been up to walking so I fear that I've lost my urge to get out and walk.

Its been crazy around here this week. I've packed 10 orders so far and will probably have 5 more to pack tonight. Thats alot for one week. I'm headed up to the Springfield Library in a little while, they have a local artist gift shop and need a few more items. I'm going alone so I plan to spend some time in the magazine room and just relax.

Rabbit are you anywhere near Mt Vernon IL??? Is that town very large?

Bailey: Sorry about the eye situation. I understand your fear concerning it. I have a condition too and so far have 2 blind spots in my right eye. They are small so I don't notice it very much, except when reading, but there is a chance that I will continue to develope these. Take care.

I better get on with the day, jul

05-08-2002, 11:45 AM
Hi everyone, I'm still having a hard time keeping up with all the posts. Work has been kind of busy so haven't had a lot of time to play on the computer. My scale is not moving but I'm hoping to see something by Sunday. This weekend is going to be crazy. Friday night we're going out for dinner and drinks with friends. Saturday is the annual Beach Bike-a-Thon to raise money for Ovarian Cancer. We get around 200 bicyclists together to go from bar to bar and get wild and crazy. It's an all day event but I promise I'm only allowing myself three drinks and the rest will be water. Then Sunday I'm flying to CA to spend 1 1/2 weeks in Sacramento for work. I'm looking forward to getting away but it's going to be a real test for the diet. Nothing like per diem and an awesome steakhouse next door to the hotel to screw up my plan. Did I mention the hotel has free breakfast (anything you want) and free alcohol from 5-7 pm?? I'm in big trouble!!!! At least they have a small gym where I can get some treadmill and stairclimber time in. :D

Pry, thanks for your inspiring post title this week. My good deed for myself each night so far has been to take a 40 minute bike ride around the neighborhood to explore some new areas.

Karen, Wow!! 4 lbs?? How do you do it? Donít you just love allergies?? My gardenia bush is blooming like crazy and I cut off a bunch of flowers to bring inside. Of course, they make me sneeze but they smell so good.

Elisa, congrats on breaking thru!! Doesnít it feel great?? I canít wait until I can see 149 on my scale. Only 8 more lbs to go. I loved your house. The floors are beautiful and I like the wild green color. I wish I were brave enough to do some colors in my house.

Meikka, I love Super Walmart!!! Itís the best place to make money disappear.

Lys, my prayers are with you. I hope everything is okay. Sorry about the off weekend but just realize that life is going to be like that. So long as you can remember to go back to your healthy ways as soon as you can youíll be fine. Donít let the scales get you down. That was the most frustrating part for me when I started exercising. The important thing right now is to watch your measurements and the scale will catch up.

Jul, where at in OK?? Iím originally from Tulsa. I still have my family there so I go home to visit every once in awhile. I like FL much better though.

Nanci, hope youíre feeling better. I was like that last night and DH had his softball games so the house was quiet. It was wonderful.

BFB, put the ice cream away and get back on it!! At least youíre still checking in so we havenít completely lost you.

Rabbit, did DS survive the big 21? How big is his hangover today??

Bailey, sorry to hear youíre in a slump. It happens to the best of us. Remember it was you just recently being the posting queen and inspiring so many of us. Thanks to you Iím reaching for new goals. Iíll keep you in my prayers regarding your vision. One of my good friends has that disease. It hasnít slowed him down much and all of his friends are very understanding and helpful. Heís got a great sense of humor about it. I'm missing you over in the exercise/food posts. It's awful lonely. :(

Hi to everyone I missed!!

05-08-2002, 04:01 PM
I found a 44 oz. mug at the $1 store. I have figured out that if I drink 2 of them every day, I will more than meet my water intake, and besides, it is dishwasherable. Maybe that will help me remember to drink my water every day.

Liz - I guess busy is better than bored. I definitely remember that I am shrinking even if the scales don't reflect that. Dh is getting smaller too. I think we are the incredible shrinking couple  . You just remember the same. Good luck on your up coming trip. Remember to make as wise of choices as you can while you are away. And I think your exercise will help make up for it all. Have fun.

Jul - Ginger will be well soon, and then you can go back to running. Sounds like your business is keeping you busy anyway. Hope you enjoyed your trip to the Library, sounds relaxing.

Bailey - I am so sorry you're having a rough time. I will keep you in my prayers. Maybe the dr.'s are wrong. I hope the tests show up negative. Keep up when you can, and don't worry about it the rest of the time. Just remember that you are loved.

Hope everyone else is having a wonderful day.

05-08-2002, 05:37 PM
Liz: I have family in Odessa and Tulsa. We'll be going down to Lawton - maybe. They are expected to have thunderstorms all weekend and I'm scared to death of tornados (they just don't mix well with a light dome tent and glass). - jul

Hi all! I am back OP now that I am home - once again I did not count points while I was gone. And I'm back on my workout routine - did my hour this morning.:)

Lyssa - sounds like a good snack idea you had yesterday. ~ Good luck on your water. I measure mine out every morning to make sure I get it all in.

Bailey - sorry to hear about the eye disorder - hope you don't have it. Hang in there. ~ Good luck on the job thing!

Jul - I'm not sure about Mt. Vernon - I will check the map.

Liz - good luck on your trip! Sounds tough, but you can do it. ~ Florida is a beautiful state - I certainly enjoyed the beach & the ocean while I was there. ~ DS did survive his 21st fine, I imagine. I have not talked to him today, only emailed. Anyway, he doesn't drink so I'm sure there was no hangover (I am not being a naive parent :) although it may sound far-fetched to not drink on your 21st!) Also he is in the middle of finals (that probably would not stop lots of kids, I know!)-he had a final on his bday, but he said luckily it was his easiest one, Logic.

Have a great day all!

Hi everyone!

BPB, We miss you! You need to start visiting us more often :-)

Rabbit, I bet the DS had a fun bday.

Bailey, I am so sorry that you are having a rough time. It is hard when it feels like everything is going wrong.

Jul, Boy those orders are keeping you BUSY.

Liz, Sounds like you have a fun weekend planned. Be careful when you are out of town for work. That is always hard for me.

Lyssalou, Good job on getting the H20 holder. That will be nice to just have it out of the way.

Take care everyone!

hello everyone,

I'm new here, so thanks Lauren and Pryia for inviting me here!

I am starting this week with what I KNOW (ahem) will be my final 20 pound diet stretch towards my goal (which is an ideal 56 kilos, how much is that in pounds?). After my holiday last week, I consider this new start my special thing for myself, because I know it will make me healthier and leave me feeling good about myself.
Fortunately, my boyfriend is supporting me, too but he thinks I should be able to lose 16 pounds this month: This makes me kinda   , because I know it's not healthy and anyway it's easy for him to say because he's a former athlete and although he's in comparatively mediocre shape right now, he's still THIN THIN THIN!!!!!! It's not fair! Anyway, I am gonna do it.

I've just been away for a week, it here being Greek Orthodox Easter week to the island of Santorini (if you ever have the chance Lauren, go! it's one of the most beautiful places on God's earth that I know!) eating just about anything (lots of salt and junkfood). This made me feel awfully bloated and bad-tempered. Anyway, This month I want to lose 10 real, non water pounds, so I can finally wear my nice skirts agan that keep staring at me from their hangers in the closet....

BigPhatBooty, YOU CAN DO IT! let's do it together and keep each other posted on how we're doing.

Love to you all from overseas (it's a small world!) and God Bless!

Greekgirl from Athens, Greece

Hi Everyone!

My crazy week continued!! We had the house then we didn't then we did and now it's finally a done deal. The short version of the story is just that we had the house inspection and overall it went very well but there were some roof problems and we wanted to get some money back for that and anyway it looked like it might be the end of it but now it's all taken care of. The paperwork is unbelievable. I'm working on the mortage papers and then we have to decide on life/mortgage insurance and get the proper house insurance. Then we meet with our lawyer and then maybe that's the bulk of it??? It's okay because it's quite exciting. Thinking about packing is scary and it's so soon!!

The weight's going okay still. I'm floating around 148 which is so great for me. I really never want to cross that 150 line again. And since I tend to be able to gain 3 or 4 pounds easily I'll be more comfortable when I get to 145 (which was my first goal!!) knowing I should never go back again!

Greekgirl - good luck with your goals!! Drop by anytime for help or motivation. If you only need to lose 20 pounds in total it might be tough to lose 10 in one month but you never know, it's certainly possible. Let us know how you're doing.

Rabbit - glad you're back on doing your workout - how's it all going?

Lyssa - how's the water drinking going? That's something I still struggle with. I drink more than I used to but it's very sporadic and it's nowhere near what I need to be drinking.

Bailey - how are you doing these days? You've been so inspiring and motivating in the past I hope that we can help you. You've done so well on the weight loss front that I know you can get back on track. I sat at the same weight for 3 months but I didn't give up and neither should you. I really hope you receive some better new soon about the eye disorde - sounds very scary. Do many of your family members have it?

I really should get some work done so have a good day!

HI. :)

Had another good op day - I do so much better at home & have been gone a lot lately. I'm having family over this weekend for mother's day & ds' birthday. :D

Greekgirl - Welcome!:D Good luck on your goals. Santorini sounds beautiful.

Elisa - so happy for you that your weight is going well! Would LOVE to be in the 140s! One of these days.:)

OP since 5/7/02

Hello all!!!!!I am back from the land of sleep and nausea!!!Took a 2 hr nap when I got home from work and feel revitalized!!!Had my appointment on Tues...all is well..baby growing and doing good!!!!!My due date is now Dec 19th!!!!

Hello to all....off to pack and get ready for my ANniversary with my husband!!!!!!!

05-09-2002, 09:10 PM
:) Vicki I am glad that you got that nap in! I hope the nausea goes away soon. That is the wosrt part. My doc said to eat crackers dry. LOL and how do you swallow them without and water?
Greekgirl what a wonderful place to live. Nice sunny weather even. I seem to do alot better with the better weather.

Rabbit way to be OP. Isn't it a great feeling? I seem to do better when my hubby is out of town. I guess because then I make the DS a quick dinner and with hubby here I make real food! I do love it when he notices that I am losing it is a great feeling.

Elisa I am so happy for you getting the house. You will be so happy having your own place. DH and I just bought a place so I can be closer to my son. I love having a house that we bought together. The other place he bought with an ex gf.

Bailey I am sorry about you having a hard time. May I ask about the eye problem? I am concerned about my sight. I am having a hard time with my right eye. Even with glasses it is blurry all the time. If I close the left eye even with my glasses I can barely read the post. It has gotten alot worse the last couple of years. I was told that I will eventually lose site in it but no guarantee when that will be and no name for it. I don't have dark spots but blury is still bad. It scares the He** out of me at times.
Ok I hope everyone else is having a great day. Oh I did a 3 mile walk yesterday. I was going to walk today but babysat at 7 am and the when she left had my kids here and Jason DH wont be home until late. Grrrrrrr Oh well, Daphne

Backfor 2002
05-10-2002, 12:48 AM
well we just got back from ww. I was down 3.4 and dh was down 1.4. We are doing well!

Greekgirl, Welcome! Greece is somewhere that is definately on my travel wish list. We are talking about 2 yrs from now. I will probably be picking your brain.

Elisa, It sounds like things are moving right along with the house. My advise is to start the packing now and as Lauren said PURGE!

Rabbit, I am so with you. It is much easier staying on plan when you are at home. I am really looking forward to our two weeks in Mexico but I am starting to get stressed about it as well. I really want to do ok while I am there.

RR, I am so glad to hear that things are going well with the baby. Take care of yourself and get plenty of rest. I am crossing my fingers that the nausea passes quickly for you.

Dabrat, I do much better in the nice weather as well. If it weren't for my family and friends I would definately be living somewhere that got sunshine for more than two months out of the year.

Hope everyone has a great friday.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the welcome!
For me it's almost weekend (7 hr time difference with New York), so wish you lost of relaxing and fun.

Eliza, I dropped 2 pounds in three days (ok mainly water probably, but have been VERY good with diet), so I'm happy with myself. drinking coffee like mad, though...

Dabrat: Sorry about your eye; have you had this prblm for long, and have you had a 2nd opinion on it? Sounds like smt my gran used to have and she was operated on it successfully. Dont't want to give you false info or anything but it seems weird that nobody knows what it is (?). Hope you're not offended about the above.
I also do better in good weather, like backfor2002. I was born in The Netherlands (famous for tulips, windmills and drugs and RAIN RAIN RAIN), and here I see that whenever it's cloudy weather/raining for more than 3 days in a row, everyone including me walks around grumpy and slightly depressed.

Roadrunner, how many months are you? 1st, too?

Backfor, you may pick my brain whenever you want! In a former life I was a tour guide, so although I've never been over the ocean to check out your side, I've pretty much seen this side inside out!

Stick to it, everyone, you can do it !:strong:

Hi Everyone!

I found this great recipe somewhere on the internet (don't think it was here so I thought I'd share.) I tried it last night and it was a great treat - especially for the chocolate lovers out there!! The recipe is for a chocolate smoothie and it was so good for only 2.5 or 3 points (not sure exactly). So simple - for one serving take a cup of skim milk, 1 tbsp of chocolate fat free sugar free jello pudding, 1 pkg sweetener and some ice cubes. Put it all in a blender and blend!! It makes quite a big glass and it was really good. Pretty thick and yummy - tastes like pudding. Not sure what portion of the pudding pack you're using so I'm sure whether the serving is 2.5 or 3 points but no more than that. My husband loved it too. Let me know if anyone tries it!!

Hi all.

I lost .25 last night at weigh in. Not a lot, but I'll take it. Glad it's in the right direction anyway.

RR - so happy for you that all is well! ~ Enjoy your anniversary!:D

Dabrat - I was surprised I did better when dh was gone - it was definitely the lack of cooking that did it for me. ~ Sorry about your eye problems.:(

Nanci - you never cease to amaze me on your progress! I'm thrilled for you.:)

Greek - cool that you were a tour guide!

Elisa - your recipe sounds yummy!:T

have a good one.

OP since . . . (messed up yesterday after weigh in)

Hello to all! Want to appologize for my last post. It was soooo pathetic. I am having a hard time and was feeling a little like everything is going wrong. However, when I really look at things, my life is pretty good and things are getting better all the time. If I make big, leaping strides, I should expect to give some back from time to time and that is not a bad thing. By golly, I get better by the minute!

Up just about 3 lbs over the past 2 weeks - this is pretty typical if I have a "bad spell" as I have lots more salt and sugar which makes me pack on the H2O - I know I can get it right back off. If, that is, I kick this butt back OP:?: I feel totally out of control, but in reality, most days I don't eat so bad AND get some exercise - Just not up to the lofty levels I have set for myself.

Note: This is a long section about the eye thing. Feel free to skip - it helps to get it off my chest. Don't want to stress out the family...

Thanks so much for the support on the eye thing - SCARRY $&!t !!! No one in my immediate family has a problem, but retinitis pigmentosa was a problem in my grandmother's family. My other grandma has glaucoma. I have pretty darn good vision, but have definately noticed changes (not for the better) over the past 6-10 years. Seeing at night is particularly hard. SO far the eye dr's have said things like "pale optic nerve" and "macular scaring", then (new dr) "no problem noted".... Student health coverage is really great! Anyway, I had my eye appointment at Mass General Hospital (now that I am a real person with real insurance). Due to my family history and eye history, they did a "field of vision test". They usually only do these when you are much older. I have had them before and done fine. This time - not so fine. Early signs of RP??? Difficulty with night vision followed by loss of visual field. The Dr. was very young and probably has not had to do much like this before. She referred me to the specialist. When she saw I was noticably upset, she said "This is why I sometimes hate being a Dr." Real appropriate, huh??? So sorry I am making your job hard, lady.

Anyhow, they said it would take a while to get in to see the specialist, but I somehow got an appointment for this Tuesday - so I guess I will know the full deal then. It is an all day affair, with the results coming after lunch. No need to worry until I know what there is (if anything) to worry about! Will keep you posted.

Sorry so long! Will respond to individuals on next post!

Ok, I have considered different things to get my degree in once all the kids are in school. Even though we homeschool now, I do hope to eventually move to a better school district and put them all in, and then I will go back to school myself. Anyway, I have thought about psychology, teaching, nursing, and when I was in high school, I wanted to major in pharmicodynamics (the people who actually invent medicines). But I think I have an idea. I think that I want to double major in nutrition, and in p.e.. I have an idea for a business that would change the way people on a diet would shop. And I think I want to continue to experiment with healthy alternatives to everyday American recipes. Anyway, I wondered what you all think.

I have skipped exercise 2 days in a row. I injured my shoulder, but I could have exercised and left out the exercises that used those muscles. The biggest problem has been getting up early so that I can exercise when the kids are easy to keep quiet. I need to recommit to exercising when ever I can, so that if I don't get up early, I can still exercise before lunch (which is what I will have to do today). And now that dh is out of school for the summer, I want to start walking to the park when he gets home from work, so the kids can play, and I can walk around the track that is there. It is a really cool track that includes a hill in it. I think it is 1/4 mile around, or something like that. So it will be a great way to increase my exercise.

Rabbit - A loss is a loss no matter the size. Congrats, and keep it up.

Elisa - Sounds like a great recipe. I hope all is going well with the house. Water is definitely going. 88 oz. both days I have been using my jug. Now, if only the weight would go with it!!!

Greekgirl - Welcome!!! Wow, Greece, what a romantic place to live. I too want to visit someday. Good luck on that 20 lbs.

Nanci - WTG on the loss. I think you must be doing the best on this board.

Daphne - I agree with Greekgirl, you should have a second opinion. Maybe you could get it fixed, and then not have that problem anymore. I know that there are great improvements being made in eye surgery. The just did a report on that subject recently on our news. Before long, no one will have to have eye problems of any kind!!! (ok the last statement is hopeful thinking, but it might be true)

Vicki - So exciting. I have a friend who is due Dec. 15th, so will be interesting to see how this all goes with the two of you.

Jul - Maybe you should have an alternate plan if the weather is bad this weekend. I will say a prayer for you guys. Have fun.

Bailey - Please keep us posted. They are making headway all the time in eye surgeries and treatments. So, a cure could be just around the corner. I for one do want to keep up with what is going on with you, so keep telling us. You really have inspired me, and continue to do so. You are a real trooper. BTW, most of us do have it good, but even as good as we all have it, some times we have things in our lives that are more than we can bare, and in each person it is different. Chin up, as the spider said to the pig. :)

About my "problem", I should have more info next Tuesday or Wednesday, and then will share more.

Everyone have a great weekend.

Hi all,
I just wanted to check in. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to while I'm in CA. Hopefully I can -- I'm gonna need some inspiration to keep my eating and drinking under control. Last time I was there I went to the pool after work and had three fruity rum drinks then ordered a big steak dinner from room service. It was all too much for my stomach and it decided it didn't like it in there. I guess that's one way to stay OP.

Congrats to all the losers. I'm still hanging at the same weight. Hmmmm...do you think it could be all the candy bars I've been eating?? Once I get back from this trip I'll pull myself together and get strict. At least until my next vacation. :D

Good luck to everyone!!

05-10-2002, 03:44 PM
WOW...2 days in a row for me!!!:D Just had a 3 hr nap after work..Work is too taxing some days cuz we are short of nurses as are alot of places...We are losing 2 more next week(retiremement, and marriage soo moving to another state)and 1 has been hit with some bad news and is in MD Anderson in TExas for awhile..I just do what I have to do and rest in between...DH is wonderful about everything!!!!!It will be nice to be relaxing on a boat in shorts and swim suit all day(even if the belly is pooching!!!)

GG-I am a little over the second month and it is my first one..(and last)soo I am making the best of everything!!!!I agree that Greece is on my list of places to visit..Last year we were in the Netherlands on a honeymoon soo that is beautiful also....

Helloo too all!!!Take care!!!

05-10-2002, 04:17 PM
Jul: Keep up that exercise! Give the dog something to be jealous about. Great on the busy business. Sorry to hear about your eye difficulty. Hope it stays put. Don't know if anything specifically helps that, but I have heard recently that for eyes, some things might help - like vitamin A, spinach (don't really know what else). I try to have spinach as much as possible (YUCK!). Try to get vitamin A from things like slimfast and viactiv.

Liz: Wow have fun with the bike thing! GL limiting the drinks - sounds like it could get a bit dangerous . Best of luck on the trip - sounds fun. One strategy? Work out during drink hours:lol: Seriously, or during breakfast. My theory (I have never succeeded in putting it into practice) is that if I go out and get fruit to keep in my room, I can work out during the bad, yummy free breakfast and then eat my fruit. If I also work out during part of the cocktail hour, I drink about as much, but feel I really deserve it!. Can that expense account be used for clothes?:D. Thanks for your words of encouragement - I will get through this slump. I think maybe I am a tad manic depressive??? Your successes keep me going.

Lyssa: The new mug sounds like a good idea. If I measure my H2O out like Rabbit said, I do much better with it. Thanks for your support.

Rabbit: Yeay back op and on the loss!! What I wouldn't give for a loss right now (that may not have been clear - let me spit out this cookie so you can hear me better:D).

Nanci: You rock! I do realize that everything doesn't suck and I will move on! Thanks for being here.

Elisa: Yeay on house - glad everything worked out - GET RID OF EVERYTHING! You will be so much happier and the move will be so much easier. I hear ya on the 150 line. Got down to 143, but this week saw the dreaded "149.5". Must not weigh again until I get back into the swing of things:lol: Thanks for the encouragement and inspiring me onward. I can do it.

Greekgirl: Welcome - Ignore BF's unrealistic expectations, you are right - that is not healthy. Sounds like you are off to a great start!

RR: Hope you are feeling better - it is well worth it. Have a WONDERFUL time on your trip.

Dabrat: I am no expert, but it does seem that they should be able to tell you what the problem is with your right eye. Have you had a second opinion? Can't hurt. Our eyesight is so precious, it is well worth "looking" into :D. Great job on the walking.

BPB: Come back! We miss you!

Gosh - it is so beautiful here today. Have ants in my pants sitting here at the old desk.

05-10-2002, 04:53 PM
Hey guys, sorry to be such a posting feind. I found this on another site and thought I would share. If I can pull myself together a little, I think I will try it. Right now I am about at -50%:o. If you want an excel spreadsheet for this, pm me your email and I will send it.

Lyssa: The new education plans sound exciting! Keep us posted - You can exercise - you can do it - I know you can. I love charloett's web. Best of luck next week.

Liz, It is definitely not the fault of the candybars! I have been discussing my recent gain with all of my candybars and they all have the same story - IT's NOT THEIR FAULT!! (sadly, I think the little buggers are liars)

RR: Hope work gets better - hang in there.

This week I showed a way to see what percentage you are on program each
week. I got the idea from Sandy. THANKS! What you do is make a chart --
across the top write the days of the week. Down the side write the ten
things you need to do to be on program PERFECTLY. Each day give yourself
a check mark when you do each of these things. At the end of the week,
total up all your points. There will be 70 points possible. Your score might be
something like 56/70. Convert your score to a percentage by dividing the
last number into the first number -- in this example 70 into 56. In this
example the answer is .80. Now move the decimal point to the right two
places and you have your percentage. Here are the ten points:

1. Pay attention to serving sizes -- in my opinion that means to weight and
measure everything when you're home and, when you eat out, use the chart
in your Getting Started brochure to help you "guesstimate," Weigh before
you eat since it's about impossible to do it AFTER!
2. East AT LEAST 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day -- the more the
merrier! If you have a fruit and/or vegetable every time you eat -- it's a
3. Eat 2 to 3 dairy servings a day or take a calcium supplement
4. Include protein-rich foods. Our body needs about half our body weight in
grams of protein so eat those meat, fish, cheese, poultry, beans, seeds,
nuts and other protein foods to get what you need.
5. Choose a variety of grains -- keeping as many whole grain as you can. Try
different rices -- brown rice, wehani rice, basmati rice. Try other grains like
rye, barley, quinoa, spelt. Get whole wheat pastas, whole wheat crackers and
tortillas. By the way, Natural Ovens should be in some Dierberg's markets
this week.
6. Limit alcohol, high sugar and high fat foods. You know that! Okay, it
doesn't say ELIMINATE, just limit.
7. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day -- drink until your urine is pale to
clear. Alcohol and caffeine Dehydrate - water hydrates.
8. Exercise - at least 20 minutes a day
9. Keep your journal (and stay within points). Just as you weigh your food
before you write it down -- look up your points before you eat! Too late to
change your mind after!
10. EAT ENOUGH FAT! Women need 15 to 35 grams a day to lose weight
and men can have up to 45 grams. Don't be fat phobic!! It takes fat to burn
fat, so relax!! Stay away from saturated fats as much as you can. Those are
the artery cloggers and, remember, fat has lots of calories and eats up the
points. Don't overdo but, for sure, don't under-do. It's dangerous to your

Give this a try for a couple of weeks. You'll see, after your first week, if
you've only checked some of these things a few times in a week, there's
room for improvement. I think if you get 80% that's about perfect. I don't
think anyone is going to be 100%, 100% of the time. That's life and reality.
Give it your best shot. When you need to break a plateau -- for a couple of
weeks -- go for 100%. You might be surprised what happens.

Hi everyone, Happy FRIDAY! I have to be quick as we are leaving for the weekend and I should be packing up my stuff.

Rabbit, Way to go on the .25, that is great after being gone.

Bailey, I was so happy to see your post! I was getting ready to come searching for you. Keep us updated on the eye. I liked the chart idea alot.

RR, Have an awesome time on that cruise. Kick back and soak up some serious vitamin D.

Liz, Good luck in CA. I know how hard that can be. My WW leader had a good point the other day. She said you should always try and have breakfast and lunch very similar to what you have when you are home. I tend to do most of my damage after the cocktail hour starts but it's worth a shot.

Lyssalou, I like your business idea! I am thinking good thoughts for you.

Elisa, Thanks for sharing the recipie idea.

Greek Girl, I love to travel! I will defintetly be talking with you. I would like to spend a week in Italy then a week in Greece. But then think maybe it should be two weeks in Greece. Who knows. Congrats on the loss.

Thanks for your support on the weight loss. Your words have helped me put things back in perspective. I know I have done really well. I was having a tad bit of a pity party today of how much more I have to go. I went shopping today and decided that my BUTT is HUGE. Ok, the logical me knows that it has to be smaller after losing 30+lbs. Part of the issue is that I tend to be smaller on top anyway. Oh well enough whining! I am trying to keep the positive thoughts going here.

Have a great weekend all.

05-11-2002, 05:29 AM
Hi all - still here just. Nice to meet you GG - are we planning a european invasion?

Just waiting for the "click" to happen again, so I can get back to losing weight and posting, but I am still thinking of you all and skimming the posts.

RR - how's bump and you of course!

05-11-2002, 09:51 AM
Hi All,

I have been trying to surpress myself, but I can't anymore...I'm in the same boat at Roadrunner... :D Yes, I'm pregnant!!! EDD: 1/17/03. It's been a nutty couple days around here. We weren't supposed to be trying until July, but I ovulated 5 days early this cycle and BAM, it happened!! It didn't matter how many sticks I pee'd on, DH wouldn't believe it until I got a blood test...grrr, I hate needles. Guess I better get used to them now, huh?! First doctor's appt. is June 10th, and we'll get to hear/see the heartbeat then!! DH has affectionately named it Cletus the Fetus. Great...

Hope everyone's doing good and having a great weekend!!

05-11-2002, 09:52 AM

Just checking in before I get really busy. I took a shorter walk today than I had planned - it rained on me. Next, I've got to run to the grocery store & then I'm making the pasta salad & dessert for tomorrow. Then around noon, I'm going to pick ds up at school & move him home for the summer.! Tonight I'll still have some last minute things to do before my family dinner tomorrow. But it's going well! (we're cooking out & it's supposed to rain - oh well!)

Bailey - You are a funny girl! ~ Glad you are feeling cheerier. ~ Good luck at the specialist Tuesday. ~ I liked your chart & think I'll print it out when I figure out how.

Lyssa - your business idea sounds great.:) ~ I like your plan to go to the park in the evenings with the family - good for everyone.

Liz - good luck in California! I can't remember when you're leaving.

RR - You are gone already I think? Enjoying that cruise!

Nanci - gone also - but have a great weekend. Glad our posts on your accomplishments helped you.:)

BPB - hello!

gotta run! Rabbit

Greekgirl I hope that you are having a great weekend there. I think it must be just beautiflu to live there. When ever I see pictures from TV I just see stick thin prople. It is nice to know that there are real prople there.

Hi guys!! Sorry I've been away so much this week. Just been busy. I was very bad today. I had a real burger, some fries and 4 munchkins. Sigh. I just couldn't resist any longer. Hopefully now that I have it out of my system I can get back on track. Oh, I also had 1/2 of a big slurpee. I'll have to have water for the rest of the night. We did yardwork and took the dogs for a run with us on the bikes and them running :). We went for two miles. So at least I got some excercise in.

Lauren: Congrats!! Wow, I sure hope that pg thing isn't in the air around here!! :D I told DH at Christmas that I was going off the pill and that BC was up to him from now on. I even gave him a count down of the last three months worth of pills. He has done NADA. It's been five months since I've been off the pill.
Either I've been lucky or one of us is broken!! :s:

RR: Have fun on that cruise!!

Rabbit: Yeah on the loss. Any negative is good, no matter how small. It's much better than a gain. Especially when you have been away from home.

Bailey: Good luck on Tuesday. We will be keeping you in our thoughts.

Hey, you guys are all around my age. Do you remember Dawn dolls? They were like Barbies but they were only 6 1/2 " tall. They were my absolutely favorite toy. I hadn't thought of them in years but for some reason I decided to look them up the other day. They are hot collectors items!! Well, not THAT hot!! Mine were lost eons ago, so I decided to put a bid on some on ebay. I won the auction!! I'm so excited. I may start collecting and restoring them. I got four and some clothes. I can't wait to get them.

OK, gotta go take a shower. I can't stand smelling me anymore!!
Hope you guys are having a great weekend.
