I'm new to the site, and everyone's stories are so inspirational, that I thought maybe someone could help me out. =]

I'm 19, 177 tryign to get down to 135, and am 5'4". Let's just say I'm not the most active person in the world. I can't run, or rather, my body protests when I do (chest pain, kind of like asthma). I really want to get into a regular exercise routine, but can't seem to get the motivation for it for some reason, or think of anything rather than walking that I'd really want to do. I'm already trying to eat better, so that's helping a bit in the weight department, or so I hope (haven't seen results yet, except for more energy).

Anyone have any ideas on how to ease myself into it?

Start at least by walking if you can commit to doing that most days of the week for at least 30 min you'll find it gets easier. I was never a runner and I got started by walking around the block then I walked farther and faster and then started jogging and then running. Also, purchasing a pair of 5 lbs dumbells that you use 2-3 times would be a place to start for strength training. If you just google free weight exercises you can get tips on properly performing bicep & tricep curls, weighted squats, lunges, etc.. The other thing is just realizing that exercise is good for you and even when you don't feel like doing it, you are doing it for your own health. Good Luck, there is tons of info around here about what other people do, I would browse through it all and pick what you think might work for you.

Great advise from JackieRN. You will not feel like walking everyday - but make yourself - it does get easier. When your ready, see if there is a YMCA gym by you. My area is offering a waiver for the $100 registration fee you would only have to pay the monthly due (I think it's around $35-$40 per month). The Y has many classes you can take for free. If there's nothing around ya, there are some great dvd's out - "Walking Off the Pounds" is just one. Best to ya!
