100 lb. Club - Commitment: 6 weeks, you and me kid.

Newbies and Old-Timers,

From CNN.com : The survey found that 35 percent of respondents broke their New Year's resolutions by the end of January, while only 23 percent of those surveyed didn't break them. Nearly 40 percent of those surveyed attribute breaking their resolutions to having too many other things to do, while 33 percent say they are not committed to the resolutions they set.

Anyone who has been with 3FC through a new year will know that we're flooded with newbies and returnees. It's a great, busy time. But by mid-February, we've quieted down.

Here's the deal: it may take you months, a year, or multiple years to accomplish your goals. You may have ups and downs and gains and losses. You might lose your way and have to climb back on the wagon. But giving up for good is the only way you really fail.

So these first 6 weeks are important and here's my hope: Stick around.

Don't give up for an entire 6 weeks. If you miss a workout session, if you eat the entire cake instead of a slice, come back here and start again. When you want to give up, come back here. When you succeed, come back here and share. I want to see you come March, come July, come October and come next year.

Why? Any old-timer will tell you -- inspiration is mutual.

Jessica, thank you for such a nice post. I love it when a ton of newbies arrive and the threads are even more busy, encouraging and exciting. This makes me excited to jump back into losing the weight again. But, inevitably, the honeymoon phase passes and this becomes tough work. But, never, ever quit. Keep trying....three steps forward and two steps back. As long as you keep trying, you'll get to your goals. If you quit, you'll just have to start over again someday in the future.

Very true, GJ! Good advice. It took me four years to lose the weight, and sometimes I feel bad telling people that. But I figure the years pass anyway, so at least they passed with me inching my way to my goal.

I am a re-starter. I lost 76 pounds before, and then gained about fifty of it back. **SIGH** I have been lurking for a few days, but I am re-committing, and I feel like I have established some good habits in the last few weeks again. My current weight is an approximation, but I will be weighing in tomorrow and then, I will be going back down the scales again!

Hello, I'm a returnee and have been wandering where to put my first return post at. This looks like the right thread to me. ;)

When I first joined 3FC, I weighed 240. I had lost down to being only 6 lbs away from seeing 200. I was so excited! But, then life and excuses got in the way. I went on vacation and ate like calories didn't exist. When I got home, I was promoted at my job. I work as a convenience store manager and with the stress of my new position, which includes 50+ hours a week, and a smorgasbord of high calorie junk food at my disposal, I have regained all of my weight and then some. This is the first time, I've actually admitted to gaining all the weight back. I know my boyfriend knows, but has so lovingly refrained from asking me exactly how much I've regained. It breaks my heart. :)

So, yes!! I will join your 6 weeks challenge and you will get to know me VERY well as you witness me once again getting my big butt in gear and getting this weight off. 2009 will be my year of success. I have had many wonderful things happen to me and there just isn't room in my life for this weight. I don't need it or want it. I want to be free! :carrot:

I have been lurking for a few days, but I am re-committing Yay! :carrot: I missed you!

Pita - It's so good to see you again, too! :cb:

After losing close to 95 pounds and then gradually regaining half of that back I can definitely relate to this thread. Frankly, having an "there's always tomorrow" attitude is what got me here in the first place. Had I tackled the first 5, 10, 15, even 20 pounds I'd have a much easier row to how today. Thank goodness, something clicked in my head last week. For so long, the New Year was going to be my starting point. And then I realized that there is nothing magical about January 1...no reason not to start immediately. I'm glad I did as I feel better after even just a few days of healthier eating and some exercise. I will definitely be around for the next six weeks and beyond...what ever it takes to get back to my goal. And, having been a member of 3FC during my first round of weight loss I've learned not to go anywhere just because I get to where I want to be. My weight will be a lifelong challenge and I'll need support (and benefit from giving it) whether I'm 125 or 225.

That is my goal this year, just to not stop.As you can see from my join date I am a long-time quitter . I usually get so down on myself over small failures. Plus, it is just easier to quit and think "I just can't do it.", but I have before succeeded before, and I will again.
Thanks for the great post! :)

Great post Goddess! Sticking with it, and when I slip jumping right back in is what has brought me success. This forum really helps with the mindset it takes to stay on track. Hopefully the newbees will be old timers that are smaller by the end of six weeks!

Inspiration IS mutual, this place is wonderful for it. I started on January 1st of this year with a resolution, I stuck it out (with much help from here) and have come a million miles and a few pounds from then.
Let's stick it out together!

What an awesome post Jessica!! I too love the buzz around here at New Years. Everyone is ready to go!!! But sad to say, things do settle.

I am always here, but I am not always working my plan. I too am committed to getting this done this year, so in 6 weeks, you still see me doing my thing!!!!
