Here we go! It's challenge number 42!
Everyone is welcome, hop in at any time.
Here's what to do: We're out to lose 5 pounds. No matter where you're at in your weight loss, it's helpful to break down your loss into small goals like this. Just post your SW (starting weight) as of today, your CW (current weight) which is whenever you weigh in and your GW (goal weight) which is five pounds down from the day you joined in.
Weigh in whenever you like and come tell us about it! You can weigh in as often as you like - some of us do it everyday, some once or twice a week.
The first one to hit five pounds lost gets to start the next thread!

I didn't weigh in today, but I'll weigh in tomorrow. I think this is just what I need. I have so much weight to lose, and it feels overwhelming. I haven't had a stellar beginning. I can't really picture myself eating the way I need to, being thin, having exercise be a regular part of my life. I'm not really sure what I'm doing, what the magic combination will be for the perfect food plan for me. Right now I'm just eating 1500 cal or less.
Anyway, I'm blathering on.
But 5 pounds. I can see that. I know how to get there. So I'm in.

I don't know if 144 even means anything. I weighed today and yesterday on my own scale, but at my sister's house. The first time I stepped on it it said 151. Finally it seemed to settle on 145 (yesterday) and 144 today, but I think that's probably higher than I would have weighed at home - but who knows :dizzy: I guess tomorrow (my first morning weighing on my scale on my own bathroom floor) will tell the tale :o
If eating ... generously ... once in a while is good for the metabolism, I'll do well ;) Unfortunately, I have Christmas #2 to attend tomorrow. But I have a sore throat and achies coming on, so I may beg off of making cookies tomorrow morning. We'll see.

I'm always envious of those people who need to "take off 5 lbs" I think "Wow, I wish I only had 5 lbs to lose, if only!" But this thread has made me realize, hey, we all lose it one pound at a time. This is thread #42, that's 210 lbs., that's really inspiring! So, I'm just going to take off 5 lbs ;) and if you don't mind, I think I'll try to get there first. :p See you on thread #43!

I'm still happy compared to 1 week ago, but it was so nice to see the 250s on the scale yesterday. I'm learning not to stress over the short-term changes. TOM showed up this morning as well so it's most likely contributing to the craziness. Still on plan as strong as ever!!!!

The weekend at my mother's was not as bad as I though it would be. I gained slightly less than a pound, which is pretty much on par for my normal weight fluctuations.
Too bad it was icy the whole time so I couldn't even get a decent walk in.

Yeah, I think the results of Christmas plus not exercising are showing up. :o I think this might be a one pound month. Of course, the upside of that is I'll be excited if I squeeze out 2 pounds ;)
FB, sounds like we're in about the same place. Yesterday I walked 30 minutes instead of running. Went out to do the same this morning, and I actually jogged a couple 1/4 mile stretches - which was depressing, because even that was so tough.

The end of this month has been tough guys. I'm hanging in but not counting on any loss. I'm holding steady at 168-169 this week. Christmas indulgences (including alcohol) and lack of working out. My gym has been open odd hours (not that that should be any kind of an excuse - I could do stuff here at home or outside - it's not that cold) which has messed up my schedule some.
And generally I just feel ... BLAH. This year did not go the way I'd hoped it would in a lot of ways and it's looking like a lot of the garbage that I'd hoped to be shed of will be carrying through into 2009. I'll deal, but it's disappointing.
I've also sorta, kinda given up on any more loss this year. :) I know I'm going to drink champagne on NYE and that we'll have snacks and such for the ball games on NYD. Then Saturday I have a wedding and we all know what wedding food is like.
I'm going to hit the gym this evening for some cardio just to keep me from creeping back into the 170s - because if I do, I'll start cutting off body parts, I swear it! :lol:
But I told DH that this weekend, after NYD is over with - I am sweeping the fridge and the pantry again and we're getting rid of ALL junk. All of it. His, mine, whatever. It's going. I did it for so long and then he moved back in and it all came creeping back. And it's not going to happen again.

I'm working on goals and plans for 2009 that will be really good for me, but without setting myself up to fail. It's a hard balance to strike. It's funny that I could nail the weight loss thing this year, but be a mess in other areas. I think one of the keys to maintaining in 2009 will be working on a number of nonweight related areas in my life. Stress, no matter where it comes from, can derail the weight and food thing for sure.

Same, but I'm not surprised or even upset. I have eaten out every night since Christmas Eve, on the 24th I was my lowest weight in 8 years, 162. All my friends are in town visiting, and fitting work and family in this season has been a challenge. Tonight, going out again, and tomorrow is New Years Eve. Like Photo, I am not expecting a further loss until January.

Same here, Julie. I've just learned to accept that some things will fall by the wayside when I'm hyperfocused on one area in particular, usually something new to me. I feel like I could focus on some other goals now, though, without dropping the ball on eating right and exercising. I'm ready for the next phase, you know?

Kali, WTG with the sit-ups! I'm trying to get back in the habit of doing those every morning like I did before. Since I tried putting it with lifting, it doesn't seem to be as good as doing just a few a day, and it's also hard for me to motivate to do multiple sets of abs after lifting.

Thanks! I've been doing just basically calorie counting and exercising - I aim for around 1800 calories a day and do my exercising with my Wii - I use the Wii Fit, as well as DDR and the Active Life Outdoor Challenge game. I'm kind of addicted to the games and I play them a lot, it's not really like exercising to me. Sometimes I'll turn on the DDR game and do a thousand calories without realizing it - on those days I tend to have an extra snack. I also drink a lot of water, sometimes nearly a gallon a day, but I tend to be a pretty thirsty person.
I started losing in the beginning of December, so the first 12 pounds have gone pretty quickly. I had been wanting to lose some weight for a while, but hadn't really been motivated to. I had several dental issues in November with abcesses and infections and the like, and after a few surgeries I was on my third course of antibiotics in the beginning of December. The combination of my other medications, the antibiotic, and the pain pills I was still on made me not want to eat ANYTHING. There were literally a few times that because of the medicine and the nausea I went over 36 hours without eating anything. Anyhow, I lost about 2 pounds from that, and for some reason, I decided that I didn't want to gain them back, and that was the start of my weight loss.
I weigh myself every morning, first thing after a trip to the bathroom. I know lots of folks prefer to weigh themselves weekly or every other week, but I think that every day keeps me on track. I also take a blood pressure reading with a home monitor every morning - I do this mostly because I have low blood pressure and have to take high blood pressure medication for another condition, so I want to know I'm low so that I can incorporate a little more sodium into my diet. (My doctor actually told me to eat more salt!) I record my weight and blood pressure, along with everything that I eat and the amount of exercise I do in a small pocket notebook.

Same! I'll look on the bright side and consider it maintenance practice. It's a bit of a salt thing too, I craved anchovies last night. Isn't that the oddest? Anchovies on crackers. Ew.
On the balance thing - I agree. I smoked my weight loss in 2008, but other areas were, sadly - lacking. It seemed impossible that I could devote any more attention than the barest of minimums to other areas in order to accomplish what I did with weight. In retrospect I wouldn't change a darn thing but 2009 will hopefully be the year of balance and refinement for me - make more room in my life/mind.

Melinda :dust: :carrot: I am SO glad I'm not a New Year's party kind of person. I am still feeling weighed down by the holiday food.
FB, are you feeling better yet? I'm still quite cold-y, but I did actually run 1 1/2 miles this morning. I felt all nice and dedicated for jogging with clean tissue in one hand and dirty tissues in the other ;) Mostly I'm really afraid of the deconditioning!
I agree I needed to focus on the weight loss and cooking and exercise and even neglect some other things. But what's nice is there are so many lessons learned that will transfer to other areas of life. How to reach a far away goal one day at a time. How to pick yourself up when you go off track. How to do it when you don't feel like it. How to plan to make it easier.

Heya Julie - My cold is gone, thank goodness. The back is still killing me though. Against my better judgment I'm going to the crazy weights class in a few minutes. I'm going stir crazy. The chiro I just started seeing this week says weights are fine if I don't use them :lol: I'll just do body weight movements today, adapt it to me.

The scale actually went down today. Let's hope it keeps going. I think I need a change of cardio. My usual jog just doesn't seem to be doing it these days. I also can see that the 184 numbers are for reals (as FB would say), and can't be blamed on TOM or water weight at this point. Christmas was SO not worth it. Next year: turkey breast and steamed veggies are sounding like good holiday food to me!

Happy last day of 2008! We are not doing anything out of the ordinary to celebrate tonight but I'm having my own little "me" celebration today....I had a kick butt workout with my trainer this morning, then went to get a pedicure (ahhh...), now I am off to do a little shopping....I am going to buy a few smaller things to get me through work until the next size. I don't even know what size I really am now. I know it's much smaller than this time last year and that rocks! I was down a touch more today. I can't wait to get to the new decade!!!

Go figure, the day after I say none of my friends are around, dh and i get invited out for dinner tonight! It's a homemade meal, from a guy who's on atkins, so hopefully there will be a bunch of tasty tasty protein available. The real kicker is i'm going to provide the bubbly~! I love wine shopping, but if it's sweet, I can only have one glass of it... and i only like sweet wines.

Hi I'd like to join in this group. I am a very very slow loser- so a small goal is logical for me. I'm journaling since Monday and just need to get back into to exercising. I did a 5 day 400 km bike ride in Nov, so I had alot of training for that. But since then I haven't been motivated. Look forward to being around on this challenge.

I started on WW this past Monday and I'm excited about what this year has to bring in my weight loss journey. This morning I got on the treadmill (I have one at home) for 15 minutes and lifted weights. It felt good doing this much. I can tell I don't get exercise because my legs hurt and my butt hurts!

Hey All,
New year here !
when does this challenge end anyways??
I kept it as real as I could for days now
it's sooo different calorie counting compared to Atkins
what I have to start doing is exercising more
that tread mill and my total gym are parked in the bedroom
my husband is really tired of tripping over the damn thing !

I got on the scales this morning and didn't change since I posted 2 days ago, but I'm very thankful I didn't gain but maintained. Also, I just started on 12/29/08 so losing a pound before the week is up is GREAT! :carrot:
