I have a personal goal that I am trying for. I love to swim and my gym has a big pool I longingly look at everyday. I promised myself that when I reach 220lbs I would hit the pool. So here is my question. Does anyone else have a personal workout related goal?

I just started using a recumbant bike at the gym. My goal is to go to the gym at least once every three days.

I definitely have workout goals! My biggest one is I want to be able to run three miles in thirty minutes. More short term, I'm working through C25K, W3 currently, and trying to exercise at least five times, preferably six a week.

Honestly, my workout goals matter more to me than my weight goals do!

Yes, I would like to become a runner. I'm waiting till I'm about 200-220 though. I don't feel comfortable bouncing all around and dont want to over stress my joints. Right now I do cardio aerobics (less mills classes) or elliptical. The other thing is that I'd like to continue increasing the amount of weights I use in resistance training. Right now for example, I'm doing BodyPump class and using 15 kilos for squats track. I'd like to be at aplace where I can manage say 20 or 25 kilos. I love the feeling of pure strength from the BodyPump classes.

Heh. I'm not a runner and I have no desire to become one in the sense of someone who runs daily or runs long distances. BUT.

My goal for 2009 is to run in the Purple Stride 5k to benefit PanCan (pancreatic cancer research) in honor of a very dear friend of mine who was diagnosed this year.

So ... for me, running (which I don't like to do) is a huge goal of mine and a way I can really make a sacrifice to honor him. I don't need to win - I just need to finish. :)

My trainer and I are going for figure contest physiques in 2009 (not she-men - supergirls).

Although neither one of us in inclined to fake bake, don a bikini and high heels and step before an audience we're training for the bod and will work hardcore on our bodyfat percentages. We'll enter a contest for the pressure but will probably chicken out last minute before we hit the stage, we agreed on that!

I'd also like to do a 100 mile bike ride early spring 2009.

My fitness goal for 2009 is to run the Sound to Narrows fun run in Tacoma, WA. It's a 12K, and has a few killer hills. Since even walking hills like that would have left me gasping for breath a year ago, my big goal is to run/jog the whole distance, without having to walk. I'm about the world's slowest runner, but luckily they have a walking division, too, so I hope I won't have to worry about being the last one in!

I'm curious, why 220 to hit the pool? Is that a significant number for some reason? Yes I am a nosey person. :)

That was the last weight I actually swam at. It has more to do with personal vanity (embarrassment) than anything else. :o

Mine too! I have several and on the days I want to say 'I'll skip the gym today' It's the goals that I have set for my self that get me in there.

Running for your friend is way cool! I think that training for a benefit 5k is an awesome goal. It can be a big help when you hit the last kilometer if you could say '...it's for the kids!' (or whomever) :)

Yes - I have set several for myself.

One was to be able to run a 5K, which I do now.

In 2009, I am going to do a sprint distance triathlon! I can't believe it, but my sister and I have already picked out the one we are going to do and have our training schedules set. Scary stuff, but I know I can do it!

Oh yeah! Exercise goals are fun.

10 minute mile. For more than one mile.

Lots of yoga goals involving this pose or that.

Being able to do push-ups and pull-ups.

I live near a natural convergence of nature trails and hot springs, so my goal this year is to be able/to hike a 10 mile stretch of the Bandelier national park and not feel like I'm going to die by the end of it.

It's going to be really interesting 'cause I also live a mile above sea level, goooo less oxygen!

But dood....swimming is such a great low impact workout. It will get you to 220 faster. And it's a gym. Everyone there is either working on changing or at a bare minimum maintaining what they have achieved. Maybe try a time when few people are there?

Getting off my :soap: now.

My goal for next year is probably to get my personal trainer certification, I also wanna try a half century bike ride.

This year it was a 5K - mission accomplished on T-Day. :carrot:

Ever have one of those light bulb moments when someone says omething so simple and obvious that it makes you feel stupid?
Maybe I shouldn't admit this...but I never thought of setting excersise goals even though my goals are what keep me motivated in every other area of my life...DUH!!!!!:dizzy:
Thanks zerocool!

Yes, I do have some goals. I used to be a runner and I have dreams of running again. I also want to start hiking and tackle some of the tough trails with beautiful water falls in my area. But, there is one thing that really stands out to me.....I want to get fit enough to try the spinning class at my fitness center. I've heard that its a doozy and has been know to make the newbies....hmmmm...get physically ill? One day, I want to say that I can conquer this class.

My entire current goal is workout related. I am trying to develop a good exercise habit, so my goal is to go to the gym 5-6 days a week for 4 weeks. At the end of that four weeks (the Sunday after Christmas) I will increase my time at the gym by 30min and try to replete that for four weeks. Then I add running, and then running longer, etc. Each 4 week set has a small reward to keep myself going.
At 6 months of solid regular exercise I get a big reward.. probably an iPhone. If I slip a week at don't make at lease 5 workouts, that 4 week segment starts over.
So far I have been doing well.

I love that plan. I think I might need to steel it from you.

At times it feels like this is only going to be a dream plus I feel like I'm trying to punish myself but....Someday I want to feel confident going into a boot camp class. I don't want to go in and have people look at me like "what is that fat chick think she's doing"!

have have many more lbs on my short body that you and i would not hesitate to join any class at the gym. as long as you feel you have the energy to "fake it 'til you make it" who cares what others think. i definitely get self conscious about the slim people judging me at the gym, but if i have high energy and make the same effort, perhaps stereotypes about fat people being lazy slobs will subside.
in fact, i have always been in relatively decent shape for my size my slimmer friends and i disc golf a lot, hike, camp, go to music festivals....etc my first personal goal was to prove to them that i can keep up, or even surpass their energy and abilities. many times i have. and that feels really really good.

I need to set my goal at getting my butt back in the gym even if water is all I can do right now. Until I have my knee surgery! Then I will kick butt again!

My initial exercise goal was to run a 5K race, which I happily completed red faced and weezing. Now my next goal is to run a local run in my hometown of Bellingham, WA called the Chuchanut Foot Race, it is 7 mile, I did it last summer but I walked about six miles of it so this summer I hope to run the whole thing and beat my time of 2 hours even.

I've never been in love with exercise, so the fact that I've stuck with the treadmill this whole last year is pretty amazing. I've been jogging outside lately which I like so much more than I thought I would have. All the jiggling was really hard to get over at first, but it's getting so much better. My goal is to jog the whole 2 1/4 mile trail I've been doing without walking. It's going to take a few months I think, but that will be great.
