Okay here it goes, I have officially lost 30 pounds after running the Jingle Bell 4 mile run and it has led me to think of a long term goal. I am going on a medical mission trip to Haiti in June where it will be really hot and really humid, so I am going to be under two hundred pounds by the time I go down on June 23. I didn't want to initially say this out loud and have it be a goal in my head, I didn't want to make it realy but here I am in all my fat glory. I can't remember the last time my weight started with a 1 and at the ripe age of 23, I am ready to go to Haiti a little lighter, because as my favorite tv quote goes "there is nothing funny about being fat and hot"
Say it out loud and yell it from the mountains if you must! It's a topugh goal to convince yourself of...but so worth it! And with what you have accomplished so far (congratulations on that!)...This is so doable!
Terrific goal! Maybe you will make it, maybe not, but if you don't set it you definitely won't make it. (And even if you don't make it, you will be substantially closer to it than you are now.)
First of all I absolutely LOVE your user name. I am obsessed with Monopoly. I think at this point my bf and I have about 8 versions of it!
Anyway, I think it is great you said it out loud. Working toward a goal is a great way to really kick start this whole weight loss thing. All of us here want to shed the pounds, and with you having a time-goal you can mark on your calendar, you can strive every week for another mini milestone until you reach the holy grail!
Goals are great, don't be scared to set your goal. I agree wholeheartedly with what Pandora said about making the goal and if you don't quite make it you'll be so much closer than if you didn't try. I set a goal at the beginning of the year to make it to 199 by the beginning of August of this year. I didn't quite make it. I was 202 at the beginning of August. I was so close to my goal that I was extremely happy. I did make onederland by the end of August, so it paid off setting that goal and working hard to achieve it. I did decide to stick with it no matter how long it took this time, and that thinking has kept me going.
You are right... being fat and hot is really not fun! Be prepared to freeze your butt off when you get thinner, though. I'm so cold this winter!
i can relate to your goals. i will be going to Kenya in June and would like to be under 200 for that trip. i am really excited to be in shape and not have to be self-conscious around my colleagues while traveling.
4 mile run???? 30 pounds??? you yell that kind of thing outloud.
I'm already wanting to hear all about your trip to Haiti. A friend who's an internist went to Uganda this summer. It was an awesome experience for her and for those of us who saw the pictures and heard the stories later.
