Just curious -- do many of you women exercise - cardio or weights during TOM? I usually do not during the first few days but this time I went to yoga glass and am feeling more sore/tired than I usually do.

I wouldn't consider not exercising as it can help relieve symptoms. I swim, run or do whatever, it can't stop me.

I do work out but often it is harder to "get going." The after effects are well worth it :)

Working out during TOM hasn't been a problem with me (so far).

I always do - seems to make things move along quicker & relieve cramps during the onset. My cycles have been shorter when I'm exercising regularly & I attribute that to more physical activity.

Absolutely. I always feel so much better after working out.

I work out during my TOM.

It feels harder to get through my work-outs than during the rest of the month, as if I've dropped down several levels of fitness, but I soldier on anyway. It helps minimize my cramps and mood swings.

If I skipped working out for that week, it would just make it too easy to stop altogether.

Ditto -- I maintain my usual workout schedule, regardless of TOM.

i like doing the elliptical during my TOM (which is now! yay...). it helps relieve my cramps, which are monstrous.

I do, but not on the day when the flow is heavy. I used to suffer from extremely heavy periods and although I don't have that problem any more (age took care of that - I am 49), there is always a day during my TOM when I just "wait it out". Otherwise, I use a tampon plus a pad to make sure no accident will happen.

I didn't before, like any other excuse I used TOM for not exercising. But now I workout during TOM as well. Unless I'm feeling really crappy (which is rare) I just do it. I feel good doing it.

Yep, keep exercising right on through it here. I find that my body really holds onto everything during the week but the following week I notice a drop on scale.

Gotta tell ya, I had a killer headache from the neck up the last 2 days. Felt like I had loose rocks in my head and every time I moved... ugh Wasn't sure if it was the time or if I was just getting sick. But now I have my answer and I'm not sick. But I'll tell you, yesterday I had to take some motrin bc I was very busy on the go for work and needed to not feel like I was going to curl up and die. Today I awoke with the same headache and reminded myself that I"ve been trying to use workouts as a way to get rid of my headaches and had success with that once. I wasn't sure lifting would be as effective (last time it was cardio) but I tried and w/i 1/2 hr the headache was gone! I felt like crap all day - really sluggish - again feeling like I must have been getting sick. I powered thru a fbwo, took a chocolate milk break and then continued with my cardio. A few hours later when my hormones stopped crashing I felt better, got my cramps and didn't feel like lethargic death anymore. I was glad I went ahead and worked out and maybe even got things going faster so that I spent less time feeling blah. But I tell ya, since eating right and working out, I'm so much more in tune with what's going on with my body. It's amazing - I guess all symptoms before were too affected with the sugar, caffeine and food-induced bloating.

I try my best to workout during TOM - it makes the numbers on the scale look even better after I stop retaining water from TOM. :)

Weights, yes. Running, no.

WARNING-TMI
... I don't like the feeling on running with a tampon!
