Suddenly the weather has gone mad! What's up with this snow, it's only October! There isn't any snow on the ground here, but not more than 10 miles away from me, they got almost a foot of the stuff! :dizzy: It was so cold, wet and windy that I couldn't even stand being outside. Today is supposed to be much better, thank goodness! Ok, enough of the weather whining from me.

So, here we are at Wednesday already. :) We don't have anything special planned, just gymnastics after school and then I have to drive the girls all the way into the city to their grandparent's house, where Cindy will meet us for dinner. Another late night, at least the roads won't be icy.

Good morning Cottage :coffee2: No snow here but I talked to my Mom in NY and their power has been out since yesterday afternoon, three trees are down in their driveway, and things are a mess.

I'm working at home today so I can take DP to an appt. at noon. The great thing about my job is still the flexibility, even though there's a little less than there used to be. I do have more than 60 personal, sick days so could take full days but taking halves lets me keep up with my work a little too. I'm doing the same on Friday.

Thanks to all the pumpkin chili fans I finally tried it myself. It was a big hit here.
Now I want to buy more pumpkins and dry some for winter use.

How are things where you are?

Good morning ladies.... there's a covering of snow here. the pup was loving it. I'll be taking them for a walk soon here.

So while I was driving home last night I was informed that the company ended my assignment. Just as well, I've done all I can as far as collections and was seeking things to do.

So last night I spoke with someone about a position. Not sure if I'm going to take it. There is a Christian couple in need of someone moving in to help them cook, clean, do laundry, drive them to appointments. Free room and board, food and toiletries. Plus 75 a week. I would also be able to pick up a part time job to pay bills. Do not believe they would want the puppy, Jade is fine. It has benefits, like closer to my friends (like an hour closer) and would have company all the time. But moving in with complete strangers (they are in their seventies). I'd have to sell the house, get rid of all the furniture, and my new puppy :(.

OK< off to make coffee. I stopped in the office first to see if my unemployment from two weeks ago came in, it did not. :(. I'm very upset that I allowed this temp position to screw with m y income like this.

Back in from Curves, now I can enjoy my oatmeal and coffee. :)

Cyndi, so you've been following that pumpkin thread too! I love pumpkin and have made the chili several times. Hmmmm, come to think of it, it sounds like a great idea for today!

Loriann, there's a great thread for pumpkin recipes going on in the Food Talk and Fabulous Finds forum. Lot's of great ideas in there, and the pumpkin chili is outstanding! That would be a shame to have to give up your new puppy for that job.

Wow it is really early!!

Cottage-NO SNOW here either(Good thing). We are still having unseasonal warm weather and I am enjoying it. Your Wednesdays sound like my Tuesdays with the girls.

Cyndi-I love half days! Hope your mom gets her electricity up soon.

2 more days until Halloween and my girls are excited and the boys have been to the dollar store for t.p. so it sounds like a traditional evening. I just wanted to check in and say  Hope everyone stays warm if you live in the cold country and enjoy the weather if you live in the desert.

Everyone out there hope your day is a great one and a safe one.

Never any snow here in southern Texas, I'm afraid. But the weather IS a lot cooler. And I'm ashamed to admit I don't even want to walk the girls to school today. I think I'll pick them up and drive them. Pretty embarrassing when Lori is talking about walking her puppy in the snow and I can't get my tail out there in 50 degrees.
A new super grocery store is opening 5 miles from me, so I'll be visiting all the goodies there today. And later this afternoon, I have my CPR recert. class Ugh...

Twynn, Goldens are supposedly easier to train than some of the other breeds including labs.... so far this seems to be true for Cody vs. Jade since I had them both at 10 and 11 weeks. And they don't shed as much! ;)

Pearl, A mustang, with a young adult could spell disaster! My ex wants to sell my son a firebird that he admits is unsafe!!!!!!!!! Cody it was the meaning behind Cody that finally settled me on his name ;). Its good to know that your Cody held up to this meaning! Here is a cut and paste of his name....

"7. CODY – Cody is a great name and is often associated with dogs that are gentle and mild-mannered. They are eager to please and want to be loved. Most Cody's are very huggable. Origin: English. Meaning: Reassuring. "

RD.... Did you find anything nice at the store yesterday? Did you change the insurance? And a trick to an obedient dog is one that is trained, but the trick to a good dog is one that is exercised! LONG walks is all that works! ;).

Gonna, were you able to get back on track with the Shred video yesterday?

Lisa: CONGRATULATIONS! On hitting goal! Did little guy sleep well last night to allow for a good night for the two of you?

Zeff, sounds like a safe vehicle! I hope you got enough packed to feel comfortable for your moms visit!

Heather, were you able to get the on demand working today? Sorry you missed yesterday! And talk about caving in, that temp job they had, gasp, carrot cake! YES, I had a piece :(.

Jens... Did you get to the Gym yesterday? And can I go to the circus??? Sounds like fun, enjoy!

KO, gotta love the kitties! ;)

((Sophie)) so sorry bout DH... hope it works out alright for him!

Lisa, so sorry bout son's Strep! OH NO! not cool! but, bonding time for mom! YEAH!

Morning, girls! Quick in and out this morning. Can I just say, BRRRRRRR?!

Off to go get breakfast on the table and clean DS' room. With Mom in town the next few days, I won't be able to check in as much.

Have a great few days and a safe Halloween!!

Loriann - Carrot cake is my weakness, way more than chocolate. A couple of weeks ago a woman I work with brought carot cake cupcakes in to celebrate her grandson's birth and to thank everyone for covering for her. I ate one small one and thought it was okay, but not as dense as I like. Still it's the first I've had in a year so I thought it was good. I was mortified when I asked for the recipe and discovered she used a mix and added carrots, pineapple, & raisins. I never would have wasted the cheat for a mix! Ah well, it's tough being human ;)

Cottage, I'll have to try that chiil, it sounds awesome!

cyndi, this carrot cake is by far the best I've ever had, and was bought at a bakery! and boy .... I held back from grabbing the last piece! ;).

ETA: Speaking of food.... I bought Innova for Jade and she really doesn't care to eat it. I bought Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers for the puppy since they say not to use Innova for puppies, and Jade eats it.... should I return the Innova and get CS for Jade?

Cottage: Yikes! I didn't know you were having that kind of weather already. I guess I should try to keep up with the news of the nation. :o I hope that you have a wonderful Wednesday!

Cyndi: I hear you on the box-mix cheats. Just not worth it! ;) I made a from-scratch carrot cake for 18 last week and it went over well. I had a little slice and it was divine. But, no more of that! I've got plenty of pumpkins here...they're overtaking my kitchen!! I'll be making puree and canning them this weekend. Hope DP's appt. goes well!

Loriann: I hope you make the right decision on the job. I don't think I'd ever be able to give up my pups for a job. Good luck!

Phx: I don't have kiddos, but the Halloween excitement seems rather subdued around here this year. I think it may be because there's a High School football game that night and since we're undefeated, lots of parents are for-going trick-or-treating for the big game. What a shame. At least the kids have Saturday's parade!

Ohana: Hi! What part of S. Texas are you in? DH and I moved to our current location via Kingsville, Corpus Christi and George West. Were you in the area for the big Christmas Eve snow of 2005? That was HUGE! Never say never! ;) I hope you have a great day and maybe by the time your girls get out of school you'll feel like walking.

Zeffryn: Hi! Enjoy your mom's visit!!

Me: Not much going on here. I've been missing you ladies! Things have been quite crazy at work and at home. I can't believe November is in 4 days! Where has the year gone?!

Things are going really well eating and exercise-wise. A group of ladies from work and I started walking during 3 lunches a week, but I kept my old evening workout plan, so I'm getting LOTS of cardio in. I really need to work on my strength training, though.

DH and I are cleaning up the house tonight, carving pumpkins tomorrow night and we'll be off 1/2 a day on Friday to finish preparing for the evening. We're doing our traditional grilled steak, wine and Ghost Hunters while handing out candy. I hope it's a great night! Well, if I don't get my rear moving now I'll be late to work.

Have a great day everyone! The weekend is just around the corner!!

Morning! :coffee: I'm stuck on this Celestial Seasonings Fast Lane Black Tea in the mornings now. More caffeine than coffee!

Lori, yes, he slept like a rock! Hopefully the nose spray and antibiotics will make him feel better today.

And I got another full-body massage last night (3 in a week and a half!) Ahhhhh. :woohoo: I am nice and relaxed today!

Gotta run in to work this morning, knock out my inventory as fast as I can, and then hustle back here so Tom can get to class. Little Guy is still home today just in case. I'm going to try to run the 2 bags of stuff to Salvation Army in between, but I may not have time. According to their standards, being extremely conservative and going low-end almost every time, we're donating $331 worth of stuff. It took me awhile to itemize it but I'm glad I did! I can't believe the 2 bags are worth that much. It's worth doing, definitely!

Tonight when Tom gets home, I'm running to the Y, lifting weights, and then playing volleyball. I found my kneepads when we organized everything! That should save my knees from some bruises.

Well, time to suck down some tea, wolf down some breakfast, and hit the shower! Hope everyone has a glorious day (even if some have snow.)

 Hi, all! Hope it's not as cold of a day. Thankfully, we didn't get any snow, but I can't believe others did. What an early storm!

The pumpkin chili sounds great! We love pumpkin and have had it in everything lately!

Loriann, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul is really high quality food. I'd stick with it if Jade likes it. :)

Looks like another cold and windy day, but at least it isn't raining (yet...). Normal day with work, gym, etc. I'm making dinner and then dashing off to choir right when DH gets home from his church meeting. Poor dog will think we're playing tag!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Kim, I don't want to give up puppy and hate the thought of selling for a job I'm not sure about! Sounds like a fun night for Friday! Me, I think I'll escape the house! I don't celebrate Helloween!

Lisa, when I donate I donate to a local community shop that donates all it's proceeds to charity, and the workers are ALL volunteer! And their prices are far fairer than Salvo...

Beach, Innova is supposedly a bit better than CS... Thats why I paid a few dollars more, but next time I go into town I think I'm going to switch it over to CS... return the unused Innova! Hope you have a great day BEachgal!

Lori - would it be possible for you to rent your place if you take this job? At least until you feel sure about the job.

-

I just had to call the highschool that DH is moonlighting at and leave a message for him....I would be extremely surprised if he got it. They had no idea who he was, when he taught...anything. DH took my credit card last night and didn't replace it! I need gas and I don't know if any places will take checks. He's lucky he isn't home now. ;)

Good morning all!!! Happy Hump day!!!

Cottage - A nice relaxing day sounds good. I hope the evening appointment doesn't go too long.

Cyndi - Working from home is a luxury I can only imagine. I hope you're able to use your pto days for fun stuff as well. Hope the appointment w/ DP goes well.

Loriann - Snow sounds fun. I've never been in snow, so I'm always intrigued. Think really hard if you're going to take this new job. I'd say pray about it for a while.

Noemi - Hope you got out to walk the girls. Cool weather is good for a brisk walk. Have fun at the new grocery store!

Zeff - Enjoy your time w/ your mom in town. Have fun!

Kim - Sounds like your exercising is going to pay off. It's nice that you have found some friends to walk with you during your lunch time.

Weezle - Hooray for donations. Always comes in handy for tax season. Have fun at volleyball tonight!

Laurie - Tag team pet parents is better than no parent home. Have fun at choir tonight. Are you getting ready for the Christmas concert???

Gonnabe - Look at you, hot mama!!! Did you cut your hair??? I love it!

Me - Had a good day yesterday, and talked myself into getting up and exercising this morning. I'm having a really hard time staying motivated. I know it's just a stage and I need to get over it, but wow I need to get off this justification wagon. It's doing me no good. Very excited about the weekend. "Spring Awakening" has finally come to town and we've got tickets for Sunday's matinee. I've been wanting to see it since it won all those Tony Awards. Can't wait, and I have a great dress to wear. Very excited!!!
Didn't get to laundry last night as dh had softball, so tonight we wash!
Have a great day, everyone!!!
BLESSINGS!!

Good morning everyone,

Cottage- Sounds cold up there- have a good day and be safe on the roads

Cyndi- Glad to hear that your job is flexible enought that you can take 1/2 days.

Lori- That would be a tough decision to sell your house, what if it is not a good fit for you. Cody the description of the name does fit well then. :) I think we are going to get DS an old F150 for him to drive and leave the 66 Mustange for pleasure driving only.

Ohana- hope you enjoy the nice weather you have

Zeff- Hopefully they will take a check so you can get gas

Gonna- You look great in that outfit hope you had a good time

Kim- Glad to hear that you are starting to workout with officemates that is always helpful

Weezle- hope the little guy is doing better- any word on the job?

Beachgal- Have a good day today

Hopefully I haven't forgotten anyone- As for me- today is wfh and then have to run DD to get her cell phone replaced and perhaps tonight do a test drive of the F150 we are considering get DS- I may list the Blazer on EBay and see what happens- need to get rid of it.

Have a great day everyone and stay warm! I am bit chilly hehe

Jens... Did you get to the Gym yesterday? And can I go to the circus??? Sounds like fun, enjoy!

Um.... No. Here come the excuses. DH and I got into a stupid fight last night, I was so mad that I went downstairs to watch TV. I ended up staying up WAY TOO late, then fell asleep on the couch and didn't get to bed until 3:30. When the alarm rang at 5am, there was no way! :( And I am so close to my Oct goal!! A little exercise might be all I need!! I'll try to get on my treadmill tonight once the kids are in bed... Hopefully I can turn things around Thursday and Friday morning and end the month on a high note. I dropped the ball completely on my Oct exercise goals!! :(

I made yogurt in my crockpot last night. It is currently in the sink filtering thru coffee filters right now. I couldn't help myself and had some for breakfast. Not bad. It is plain, I didn't add any sweetners to it yet, so I tried adding a little SF jelly to it for some flavor. Much better. I am so proud of myself for making homemade yogurt!

Zeff - enjoy time with your mom. Let her take care of you for a while, enjoy the attention!

GonnaBe - your costume looks so cute!!

Loriann - sounds like a tough decision with the job. Maybe renting would be a good idea.

Lisa - another massage?!? Lucky girl!

Pumpkin chili... I am going to have to look into this one!

Cottage -

We had snow flurries here last night in Central Mass, and they are calling for some more later today. The winds were awful this morning. Made for a chilling morning at the bus stop, and walk around the neighborhood after wards. Needless to say I've been warming up to coffee all morning :coffee2::

Jenny - RE: the yogurt. There are two ways that we really enjoy eating it - the first is with pureed fruits mixed in and the second, with fruits and honey on top(sometimes granola as well). It also is awesome for baking - I've found that replacing oil/butter in baked goods with applesauce sometimes lent to a dry cake - but when I replace it with yogurt it is nice and moist! I'm glad it turned out for you!

I'm definitely going to let my mom take care of me for awhile - We're planning to go shopping for all the things that I never buy myself :) She knows me too well.

DH ran into some problems with one of his dissertation committee members - apparently they know nothing of the math that he is writing about and they are recommending a lot of it get changed....meanwhile, the rest of the committee members are experts in the topic and are saying that it stay the same....there has been a LOT of arguing. Unfortunately, the man who doesn't know the math isn't really on most people's good sides and often has a chip on his shoulder....I really hope that chip doesn't come back to bite DH in the arse. DH is really upset about it and was absolutely freaking out last night. I know he really wants to talk to his Dad - but FIL is MIA....bad timing. He is meeting with the rest of the committee today to make a final decision on the subject. Cross your fingers for a good report - this has been his entire life for the past 3 years and I know he would be absolutely crushed if it didn't turn out right just because someone gets embarrassed because they don't know enough on the topic.

Loriann- Maybe you can give the pup to a friend or family member until he gets older? Or until you decide on this new job?

Kim- I'm in San Antonio. We did have ice (DID WE HAVE ICE!!!) in 2005, but it wasn't long-lasting or anything. It was pretty bad though because we couldn't drive anywhere. And I worked nights back then...had to drive home on black ice. I think I drove about 5-10 mph for 20 miles.

I'd love to be in Florida though, and after my son finishes high school, we're probably going to move to Orlando...the land of Mickey and close to all beaches!

Awww, my hometown! I moved from there in 2001 to go to college and haven't lived there since. A lot of my family are still there, though. Both sets of grandparents, my big sister and my cousin are all still there. DH and I spend part of every other Christmas there and I go to visit a lot in between!

During the snow storm I was at work in Kingsville and DH was at his family's ranch in George West. Him and his stepdad came in a truck to get me and it took 2 1/2 hours to drive what usually takes us 45 minutes! I was so happy to see the ranch that night. (For a while it looked like I would be spending Christmas morning alone at the house we were renting since it really was blizzard conditions and I knew I wasn't prepared to drive back to the ranch alone!)

Ah, Ice storms, there was one in 89 when I gave birth to my son, entire town was closed down and my ex couldn't come to take me and baby home due to no power.... then again a few years ago, so bad it came through the ceiling and roof, had to replace both! YIKES!

OK, I have an interview today at 3, not sure about this one, will see. And I just got a c all from someone I already interviewed for. They want their accountant to interview a couple people and I am one of them. He said of all their candidates I am definitely their favorite. What's weird, he asked, me, stressed, ":PLEASE, COME DRESSED CASUALLY!" He says its end of year and he will be casual and doesn't care if I'm all spiffed up, but rather interested in what I can offer as far as talent! LOL.... cool. But you all know me, I'll still dress for the occassion... unless he's testing how I take directives???????????

Lori - good luck with the interview, this does sound promising!! Dress business casual, then you'll be in the middle.

I am hooked on yogurt. I have had my second cup already, this time with blueberries. My mind is racing at what I can mix into it. I am going to try some pumpkin and pumpkin pie spices next, probably this afternoon! :-)

I am in the middle of making popcorn hands for DD's Halloween party tomorrow. What a pain!! They gave me these hand shapped bags, the fingers are too small for popcorn, so I had to crush it a little (useful right?). Then they wanted me to slip a spider ring on the ring finger. Yeah, ring is so small, I have to crush the popcorn even more to squeze it on. I ripped a finger off already, and they gave me exactly enough for the class! So I had to tape it back on. This task stinks. I couldn't make it to the planning meeting, and got stuck with the leftover tasks no one wanted. The kids aren't going to eat these!! My tomorrow this popcorn is going to taste nasty. Oh well, doing it for the kids! :witch:

Pearl, still no word on the job. At least I haven't gotten a "nope, sorry" email yet, though, right?

Little Guy is feeling a bit better but still a crab. I'm ready for him to be back to normal! Poor kiddo. It's never fun having to lay around at home, especially when you're starting to feel better.

Tom's a bit of a crab too. First day without a cigarette! He only had 3 yesterday, so I'm proud of him. He can just give me a quick massage every time he wants to smoke. That's what I say, anyway. :D

Well, I think it's about time for a quick snack, maybe a cheese stick or something. Hope everyone is having a fabulous day!

:hug:Hey chickies! Hope everyone is staying warm today, its shaped up to be a pretty nice day here today but this morning I woke up to our first hard freeze! Glad a I brought my plants in although I forgot my basil and oregano- oh well...

Cyndi- Thx for the pumpkin inspiration, hope dp's appt goes well! And I love carrot cake too! Ashame it wasn't fabulous!

Loriann- I don't think you should jump to that job especially when you don't know you are going to like it or not, its hard living with other people especially ones you don't know and giving up the puppy you just got?! I can't imagine myself in that situation... I had to pay rent in 2 places because my new job was over an hour away and I still had to keep my house and pay for my animals to live there and have someone feed them/give them attention the 4 days a week I wasn't there. All because I couldn't have animals in the apartment I was staying at. But I couldn't give up my babies! Sounds like the other job is definitely more worth looking into. Easy roads aren't always the best ones to take. :) I hope that didn't come across offensive I don't mean it that way at all, just giving my 2 cents:hug:Oh, and I agree with everyone about the business casual thing- a nice middle of the road...

Ohana- I am with you- chilly weather begins in the 50s ! However, a lot colder here this morning! I actually had to scrape ice from my windshield~!

Phx, Laurie, and Pearl-

Cottage, isn't it crazy how snow can happen one place and not a couple miles from there- but I am sure you are still freezing! Stay warm~

Zeff- Hope you are enjoying time with mom and it sounds like she does know you well! Good Luck to DH with his project... some people should just stay out of things and mind their own business :dizzy:

Kim- Sounds like you will have fun with carving pumpkins! Although, canning them may not be quite as fun!

Lisa- I am jealous!!!! 3 in that short of time!!! I want a massage! I work at a spa and haven't had one in months~!! now, that is my own fault isn't it!?!

gonnabe- I love the costume! I am going to be maleficent from sleeping beauty I can't wait!

hc- enjoy the matinee and don't work too hard doing laundry.lol

Jenski- I have not done well with my exercise goals either, but I know we can both turn that around next month!!! also, good luck with the popcorn hands... sounds like they knew it would be a pain

Clarissa- Love the avatar. too cute!

Hope I didn't miss anyone!!! I got cut from work this afternoon so I am home early. This stinkin economy sucks. I work in a spa that is by far a luxury to most and people just aren't spending their money there right now. We have a dairy convention there right now and the hotel, with almost 3000 rooms is overflowing and we still don't have appts!!!! geez...-OK, I will stop ranting now! I did get out of there at one and can now work on getting ready for our party on Saturday- Have to decide what to have as far as food/drinks/etc....

Everyone stay warm and Happy Early Halloween!!!!

Quick . It's been terribly busy - I hate it when I have 11 voice mails! The house is in order, there are flowers everywhere, Donna cleaned thoroughly this morning, church service is printed, I know what to wear, etc. This is like getting a wedding organized except no corsages!

The service is at 11 tomorrow and so far there are 35 people coming for lunch. Right now I'm going to go down to the diner for a bite to eat and firm up the pizza orders. They'll be produced and delivered in waves!

I'll check back in after the dust settles - probably Friday although I have to go with Donna to be with her when she has her dog put to sleep.

Whew!

THE Interview today went quite well... put it this way, I'm hoping she calls with an offer! It's got excellent benies and the job itself seems to be a challenge, which is something I've been wanting! She stated she has no doubt I can do the accounting part of it!

The job I'm going to tomorrow is part time and no benies.

And then I spoke with my friend who's cousin is the one I'd be living with. He played it up and made it tempting, very tempting! There's other things involved than previously mentioned as far as the benefits I'd get, free rent, free food, toiletries, and use of their car! Not to mention they'd come out and winterize my home, or even move it to one of their parks rent free (lot rent free). (not sure I'd want that though). Perhaps even to get into one of their homes they sell! (yes, they sell mobile homes., the cousin, the one I'd be helping, founded this company forty to fifty years ago). Randy even suggested asking for $100 a week..... and my son is all for watching my house temporarily to see if I want to do this or not!

Rikki - unfortunately DH can't recommend that these people mind their own business. This is his dissertation for his PhD....and these people are the committee members that will allow him to graduate.

Not that I don't want to go kick some math nerd butt. ;)

Lori - it does sound tempting!
