This was interesting to me - from todays NYT.The operation resembled others done for weight loss, with one huge difference. In Ms. Perez’s case, there was no cutting. Instead, the surgeons had passed the stapler down her throat and stapled her stomach from the inside.Seems like it would be much easier to recover from.

It would be a great option for someone who wanted to undergo weightloss surgery, I didn't read the article but it seems like it would make it easier for someone to get WLS without having to lose an initial amount of weight first to make the surgery safe. Especially for someone who is very high risk and has issues other than weight that would make such a big surgery very dangerous.

Sounds like a great option. If only my problem was hunger :)

Heh. Yeah. I doubt I'll ever consider WLS, even if I were to gain back everything I lost. But I still thought it was an interesting option as a less invasive option.

The thing that bugs me most about this is at 25 she's given up on losing weight through diet and exercise? Of course the manufacturers of the device would want to pick young, fairly healthy candidates. The wouldn't want too many complications in a study, right? Sigh....

I would never get WLS, ever.
But, if I *had* to chose between this way, or cutting through my stomach, I'd chose this way. It would be a quicker and less painful recovery I'd assume.

Anways, There's just something so unsatisfying about the thought of WLS but like others said if I had to this would probably be the way to go.

I am terrified at the thought of WLS surgery since my husband's mother died of complications of it back in 2002. But if I ever did seriously consider it this would be something I would think about since it would seem like there is less recovery time due to the no cutting part.

From a nursing point of view ... I'm really excited about this on so many levels. Shortened anesthetic time, less invasion, less manipulation ...

One that is pertinent to me at this time is post-op incision care. While my abdominal folds are not huge ... I did have to be careful of my hysterectomy incision. It took some care to keep it dry and clean.

Well I'm sure with any new procedure they want young, relatively healthy people to be part of the study. They can't really take high risk patients. Of course I hope that they are doing counseling and similar because that would also affect the success rate.

While I understand people who want WLS, I think people should try doing it on their own first. It's amazing what can be done with a lot of hard work and dedication! :)

Hello from South Texas, are you a Biggest Loser Fan like myself. Love to watch that show. Weight loss surgery scares me too, I work for an anesthesiologist and read some of the scary complications associated with WLS. That's why I really want to avoid it. I also believe we should leave this world the body God gave us, but better looking.
