Okay here it is ladies.....drum roll please.....

:cheer: :cheer3: Las Vegas Here We COME!!!!! :cheer3: :cheer:

First and foremost I want to thank everyone for their help and for their opinions. Please do not get upset if you voted for another location. Vegas only won by like 2 votes; however, we can always do another location next time! But this first time will be a great time to get to gether, celebrate each others successes, reward ourselves, have a great time, and meet new people who are fighting the same weight loss battle that you are!

The dates of the trip will be:

May 20-24 of 2010 (Thursday through Monday - a nice long weekend!)

You are more than welcome to book your vacation earlier or stay later if you would like a full week. I think me and my hubby will fly in that Monday and leave the next Monday. So, consider whatever length you like.....if you could at least be there Friday and Saturday I think we will have time to get some dinners, shows, and just time to get to know each other during those days......I understand not everyone may be able to do the whole week...just do what you can!

Here are some hotels to consider:

Wyndham Grand Desert Resort -
1 bedroom suite with King bed, non-smoking, washer and dryer, pull out sofa, mini kitchen, and living area. (off the strip but not too far.....no casino in the hotel so you will have to go else where to gamble) $656.00 for 4 nights

Link to this hotel so you can look at pictures:
http://www.wyndham.com/hotels/LASGD/main.wnt

Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino
Tropical theme complete with a awesome looking beach. Also has pool, complete spa, lounge and bar, and I think it is near the LAS airport.
$730.26

http://www.mandalaybay.com/

Luxor Hotel and Casino
This hotel had options for an add on that gave $25.00 food and drink credits, $10.00 drink credits, $10.00 slot machine credits, and some other credits too.....it was extra I think $79.00 ....hotel looked nice overall....I didn't get a chance to look and see what attractions and things where around the hotel though....$600.00 for the hotel

All prices are for 2 people in a room, so if you plan on coming alone (which I never recommend traveling alone) then your prices may be cheaper. You can always try to find a fellow 3FCer that is coming to split the bill with and room with...or bring a friend...or hubby...or boyfriend/girlfriend....whatever you like

Keep the feed back coming!

Looking awesome,Melissa! I will see what my hubby can do.. but the military is not all that dependable. We have always wanted to go to vegas.

Is there anyone that would be up for sharing a room with me? Let me know :) I'm easy to get along with.. i swear! haha

My husband will be deployed then, and I really don't think I'd feel comfortable going alone.

Maybe I can convince my mom to go with me or something, she LOVES Vegas!

It's only a 6 hour drive for me, so as long as nothing big comes up I'll be there. I'd be interested in a roomie as well since hubby will most likely stay back for work and our dogs.

Can't wait!

Awesome. I'll definitely be there - probably by myself, since I like travelling alone. :)

Sounds good to me but I recommend everyone look up stuff themselves too. You can find good deals and from my experience Mandalay Bay is beautiful but also expensive. The best rates I have seen before when I have gone have been for The MGM and Tropicana. I have also stayed at the Rio but its probably kind of pricey and off the strip. You can usually find hotels under $500 for 4 nights. I know hotels.com is usually pretty cheap.

Sounds fun but between food, hotel, transportation and shows I think it may be a little to pricey for me and I didn't even include gambling!

Sounds fun! I'm thinking about planning this trip as a solo one (DB travels for work in May) so I might be willing to have a roomie as well. If anyone else is interested and looking to save money we might even be able to book more than 2 people to a room. It's much cheaper that way, and unless you're bringing a SO people don't usually go to Vegas for the hotel room ;)

Oooooooooo A meet N greet! My Dh and I were planning to head to Vegas some time.

I'll have to chat with him :)

But It'll depend on our financial situation as well. My BF is getting married in November '10 and I'll be a brides "maid"... Meaning money will be tight. We'll be staying in Ontario for a few days. But I'm sure we can work it out by then :)

Just an FYI for Canadian Chicks: Passports will cost you around $98.00 (for the 24 page... I think it was $150 for the 48 page) after the application , it "usually" takes 2 - 3 weeks to get. In fact I got mine within ONE week! I got mine in June for our August vacation in Hawaii.

I am SOOO there! I don't think my hubby will go... ? I'll check with him but I also may be looking for a roomie! I like to "party it up" when I'm in Vegas a couple nights and am very laid back. If you're like me, let me know!

And yes, check out other hotels too. I've been to Vegas a few times and by using the different internet sites, expedia, orbitz, hotel.com ... you can get some really good rates when combining flight and hotel! :) OH OH OH! I can't WAIT!

AND......... Who is up for Thunder From Down Under with me?!?!?!?!?!?!

Check out allegiantair.com for really good deals. They don't fly out of every city, but even if you have to drive to an airport further away it might be worth it. They usually book out about 4 months in advance. Seriously, last December my husband and I went for 3 nights at the MGM Grand and the total including the flight was $500.

Getting to Vegas and staying there can still be fairly inexpensive.

There's another website called traveladviser.com that has a Las Vegas message forum and the posters are usually pretty friendly. The site itself has some pretty good info.

Sounds fun!

Might have to count me out though. I anticipate May 2010 to be a busy month. BF (and I) should be graduating and hopefully a wedding soon afterwards. ;) I should probably save for all that instead. :)

But we'll see. It's a ways away.

Hey....you all let me know if you find other nice hotels with good deals.....put the name of the hotel on here with a link to the place so we can look at pictures and stuff....I guess we don't all have to say in the same place....but wouldn't it be nice if we could all stay at the same hotel......we could stay up all night down at the casino or the lounge.....go out to eat together...hit the gym......just sit around and talk girl talk....I can't wait it is gonna be so much fun!

Everyone just see what deals they can find on hotels and post them here.

Yeah, I'll definitely post whatever deals I find as I find them.

Also about the buffets - they are expensive but they're HUGE and not the only option by a long shot. I would reserve one of the buffets for a one day splurge type of thing. The one at the Rio is really really good. :)

But the rest of the time, there's tons of other small places around to eat. In the walkway between Ballys and Paris there are a bunch of little restaurants. The Creperie is one of my favorites - and it's not expensive. There's also places where you can grab a salad or a wrap for a few $$.

Hey! Now there's in idea!

Hee, hee - that's what I was going to say. We only have about a bazillion wedding chapels ;) See, then PhotoChick could take the pictures and write off the whole trip as a business expense

I've seen posts from some 3FC members who actually know more about my town than I do  - best hotel rooms and such for sure - but if you have specific questions, or need a little help with some research, I'll be more than happy to do some local "footwork" for you.

Keep in mind that room rates change, usually up, so the sooner you book the better - Usually the hotels will honor the rate advertised at the time you book but, if you keep an eye on specials (like Priceline, etc.) you can make changes in your reservations to get better rates up to as close as 24 hours before your arrival date.

Wish I had a bigger house! :)

Yeah, you want to be careful with the buffets - the cheapo ones are dreadful for a group of people that are trying to eat healthy (think lots of grease and refined carbs) and the expensive ones have some great, healthy choices but aren't necessarily a good value for peeps practicing portion control. Plenty of time and, at the rate we're going, lots of new places likely to be open by the time you all get here....

Wow...just saw this. I leave for San Diego and Las Vegas tomorrow. If we find property I just might be there in 2010.

Try www.harrahs.com (http://www.harrahs.com) for several different hotels. Right now they have some for $45.00 a night.

When I went to Vegas this year we stayed at HOOTERS because it was the cheapest... 2010 is a ways away but I may very likely come since I'll be due by then.

Oh and JamieJo I'm SOOOO up for Thunder From Down Under. I went in July for my 21st and was amazing!!!

JamieJo

Peachcake - Wasn't it HALARIOUS!?!?!?! I didn't realize it was going to be funny too. I figured it was going to be guys on a stage throwing their g-strings at us...but boy was I WRONG! I stayed half of the trip at the Excallaber and really enjoyed myself there. I would stay there again for sure! We were there last March.

10-22-2008, 10:24 AM
Okay...so I'm wondering do you guys just want me to pick a hotel? I mean we have a long time to save up for it.....I won't pick anything outrageous....

What do you think.....are we ready to know where we are going to stay, when we are going to be there....so we can start looking at booking/saving up?

JamieJo

Thanks!

I do think we could wait before making any decsion on a hotel, if we were going to try to find one where we could all stay. We're talking about a date very nearly 2 years from now and things in Vegas will change a lot in 2 years. :)

New hotels will be around, old ones might be gone ... I think that this time next year will be soon enough to make any definitive statements about where we want to consider staying.

Let's keep an eye on things and post thoughts and ideas - but not make any commitments yet.

Just my thoughts based on my visits to LV every year for the past 8 or 9. :)

Sounds good to me!

I'm thinking about setting a Las Vegas goal weight

i lived in vegas a few years ago for about 10 years, and if i remember right there is a motel 6 not too far from the strip on Tropicana ave...that might be a cheaper option for some..of course it wont have all the ammenities of the bigger casino/hotels, but for budgeting it works lol...

this sounds great for me... i was planning on flying back to the states around then to visit family for a couple months anyhow, so i could fly to vegas, do the whole 3fc thing, then after the week, rent a car and drive up to oregon...

just promise to keep me out of the MnM factory on the strip lol.. i love that place as it has every color mnm you can imagine...used to be my old stomping grounds lmao..how sad!!...but it is worth a look for gifts maybe lol

McKenziesmomma
10-23-2008, 10:22 AM
jimaterry - ohhhh M&M factory.....yummmmmyyyyy sounds good...I will have to go!!! LOL!

BTW.....this meet and greet isn't offiliated with 3FC...just a get together of those on here who choos to come....just wanted to through that in case you were expecting 3FC things and activities and such...

A goal weight seems like an awesoe plan!
i hope to be AT my goal wieght by then.. but we will see.. lots can happen in a year!!

I hope to start trying for a BABY when DHis back from Iraq.. hehe.. that could put a swing in the weightloss for a bit.. lol

Anyway.. getting psyched about VEGAS!

Faux - I know I'm so excited too...but it is sooo long away. I dont' know what really to do now....I mean thread wise and all???

Hey when I got pregnant only gained 4 pounds the whole pregnancy...I lost alot of weight my first trimester (and it wasn't due to sickness).....I really put my mind to eating healthy and exercising...and that combined with the extra calories burned during the pregnancy really took off the weight.....I started gaining back after about the 5th month......So I gained everything I lost back plus 4 pounds....I thought it was pretty awesome to only gain 4 pounds during the whole thing....and once my daughter was born within probably 4-6 weeks I lost all the pregnancy stuff (swelling, bleeding, baby, placenta, etc.) I was down 40 pounds about 4 weeks after I had her.....of course stupid me I gained it all back and then some....kicking myself now!

I think we should just keep a small chat on this thread, or if this one "dies" start a new thread about a year before going. I'm so going to be there!!! I LOVE Vegas! I agree that I will have to wait to book until about a year/9months before I go. ;)

mountain mama
10-24-2008, 05:03 PM
Well thread wise.. i guess we do have some time. It's spring, 2010, right? hehe I guess we do have some time to save/plan/get to goals!

My goal is to be maintaining at 180! We will see how it goes. I feel like my body won't actually be capable of being that size.. lol but it's my goal!

I also plan to be an avid jog/runner and health being just the way it is! :)

I think we should just keep a small chat on this thread, or if this one "dies" start a new thread about a year before going.

What would everyone think about a PM or email list where we could sign up to be informed of any new updates? We would keep the chat thread of course, but this way no one would slip through the cracks if they happen to miss a new thread in a year or so.

If you are going to book a certain hotel, I say wait until about 5-6 months before the date and get a tally of all who would like to go - and see if you can get a deal.

There are many hotels that will offer you deals on 6 or more rooms. Unfortunately I'm not sure if you need to pay a deposit. But it never hurts to ask :)
