Default Fitday: Why doesn't it track sugar intake?

I'm starting to use Fitday to track my calories and whatnot. Can anyone explain to me why the nutrition label information does not include sugar under the category of Carbs? It lists fiber, but not sugar. I'm confused. Thanks.

Yeah I've always wondered the same thing - sorry I can't answer your question!

However I do use fitday and have for about a month now religiously, I don't think the fact it doesn't count sugar is too drastic.

My guess would be that if a person is diabetic and on insulin then they need to know the total carbohydrate and the fiber, but not the sugar, to determine the correct insulin dose.

I would think since they do track so many items that adding carbohydrates from sugar would be easy to add.

Fiber is a carb that's not digestible - so the calories don't "count" because they pass through the body undigested.

Digestible carbs, whether from sugar or from starch have 4.5 calories per gram. Since starches break down into sugars in the body, it's a common viewpoint that there is virtually no difference between starches and sugars - so there would be no reason to differentiate between them. Any carbohydrate that isn't fiber, is essentially seen as nutritionally the same.
