Well today is my :hb: and I must say that I used more flex points than I wanted to yesterday. The good thing about WW's is that I can count them in and move on. I have not stepped on the scale--which right now is a goal of mine, so :cheer: for that. Today should be fun. I love having birthdays and presents and family around me. Well, it finally happened... My boss came in this morning and laid me off... I think that the end of this week will be my last. I canceled my WW membership but will continue on my own in the mean time. I will be on line now and then but not as much... best wishes to everyone and I will stop in when I can but it will be hectic until I can find another job.

Right now I'm trying to prioritize what I most want and I'm trying to work my days around that. Met my friend for lunch yesterday but stayed on track.
I have a wonderful weekend coming up. My dh and I don't take vacations per se, but we've got a trip to the ocean for a few days--with our kids and one grandson. It's his birthday and where we're going will have fireworks--fireworks at the beach must be one of life's biggest pleasures. I'll have to watch the food, but I'm trying hard to become a Weight Watcher rather than "being on Weight Watchers." I;m slowly building my confidence to accept WW's and its findings and trust more in the program.

As for myself, I was down 1/2 # this week at Tops & have kept all my spider legs so far. I am down a total of 7# over the last 4 weeks. So my goal for the next for is to try & beat that.
THis weeks challenges are going to dance Sat night & they serve light buffet late plus the drinks, and Thanksgiving dinner. So really have plan things out for a loss next week.

Morning all and happy Friday! It is cold here this morning but supposed to be a wonderful sunny weekend which is a wonderful thing and will allow me to get out and get some walks in along with yard work...
I got on the scale this morning, Saturday is my "official" W/I day but I wanted to take a peek and see what was going on... I guess I am not doing so badly with the emotional eating as I thought. If my scale is correct then I am currently down 3.8 lbs, I guess getting laid off has it's upside after all, LOL.
My nerves are bad and as I look at our future they get worse, but we have a game plan in place to survive until I can get another job. DH is very supportive right now, he told me to not just take any job that comes along but to figure out what I want to do with the next 20 years and to go for it. The problem is this... I would love to work in the health care industry or veterinary care but the vet care just does not pay enough to survive on and the competition to get into a nursing program is huge right now, everyone wants in and it is extremely hard to get into a school here that has even a decent reputation. So I am in a dilemma of the highest order. I still need to work even if I do go back to school which at 46 is a very scary thought. Oh well, I do have faith that everything happens for a reason and I know that God will show me the way to go... I just hope he hurries up :D
Bandit: You are doing so well right now and a real inspiration to all of us. I am not sure if I will go to TOPS right now or not, even the joining fee is not in the budget right now but I will figure it out. Happy Thanksgiving to you!!!

Morning all and happy Saturday to everyone! It is supposed to be a warm and sunny weekend here so that is something to look forward to. I did my "official" W/I this morning... Down 5.4 lbs. I am sure that most of that was water weight from gaining so much over the last few weeks but I have been trying hard with the food so hopefully this is a sign that I am back on track.
It is a nice weekend to get out and enjoy myself in the yard so I am going to go and get ready for the day... have a great weekend everyone.

Princess - WOW what a fabulous weight loss! Good for you. Silver lining for you. I am so sorry to hear about your family issues. Financial stress is so hard on your nerves & spirit, but you will find your way.
When things are tough just try & remember the saying "and this too shall pass" - that has gotten me through some really bad times.
Judy & all you other turtles -hope you are staying on track.
I went to dance & only had 1 cooler, then drank water and skipped the buffet, but had a snack when I got home - which isn't too bad for a Sat night. Having our turkey dinner today early so my daughter can get back to TOronto early.
Keep hearing on the news how bad the housing & job situation is for you guys. Things are getting scarey up here as well - they keep talking about a recession/depression and we are having election next week. So everything lately has been very political. Would be nice for things to get back to being more sensible with housing & gas prices. Costing a fortune just to use my car.
Anyway, have a great OP weekend and hope everything works out for all of us. Try & keep your spirits up!

Morning all and Happy Sunday to everyone, another beautiful day here in the mid-west. Got some yard work down yesterday along with DS getting the gutters cleaned out... We have a couple of oak trees in the yard and every few years we have "the year of the acorn" ugh! There are tons of acorns and they all have to be raked up so I usually dread when this happens but this time around I am looking at it as an exercise opportunity :D
Did some doggie grooming yesterday, no more trips to the beauty parlor for them, we are doing the at home version :dizzy: and will work on the oldest one today, she is the grumpiest of the four so she takes more time to work on her with all the growling and snarling going on... LOL. She is literally the grumpy old women!
Bandit: Have a wonderful holiday with your daughter! Thanks for the kind words, this too shall pass - has gotten me through a lot also. Things are very scary here but I fear that the USA is not the only place that is suffering and I pray that things get back to normal soon.

I am sorry that i have not been much of a buddy lately:o Sometimes i feel it better not to post when i am feeling down or negative or not doing well at all and so i have just sort of stopped posting. I still try to keep up with what is going on with all of you though.
Hugs to everyone that is facing some struggles.:hug: And great job for those who have lost that weight.:carrot: I have lost no weight and currently weigh around 238. I scare myself but i can't seem to get started. I am still here though and will not give up.

Well, I was right. I was up 1/2# at last nights w/i and my spider lost one of his legs. I think only 3 people showed losses out of 20 weigh ins. But, still it is disappointing to have gains.
But I have been on track this week & hopefully will knock of my gain plus some extra for next week. There is a Tops rally this weekend, so will interesting to see what happens on those.
Anyway, hope you are all staying OP and having a great week!

I'm grabbing a chance to chime in--lots of turmoil here, but I'm trying to be a rock without adding to my weight. Had a ridiculous gain after being at the :beach:, but a bit of it is off already. Went to WW's , but didn't WI. It would have been counterproductive. I think I have insight on how to handle my eating better when away from home and I need to apply it better. I made a m illion good choices, but the less good choices in food still add up pretty darn fast. Okay--enough about that. Yesterday was good and today will be good.
Princess, down 5.4# :goodscale: when you're under such stress? Fantastic!!!! :dancer: I think this shows that Weight Watcher habits get intrenched and help us out. I'm so glad you're back on track and am thrilled to hear that you got such good results. :bravo:
Bandit, I'm sorry you lost a spider leg, but honestly .5# after a Thanksgiving celebration and a dance seems like something you can lose right away and keep on losing. TOPS has been good for you so far and I am happy to hear about your news. Our gas prices are coming down now. Whoever thought I'd be happy to see gasoline at $3.29? Egads! Hopefully the financial advisors will put their brilliant heads together and help us out of this mess.
Cherry, don't worry about not chiming in. We can offer you all the advice in the world, and you know we send you :goodvibes: and our :love:, but I'm wondering if it might help you to stop and think yourself about one thing you can do today that will get you started on the path you want to take. Hello, tortoise ones. We're back from vacation in the Adirondacks, which was wonderful. Peak colors, great friends, and we saw a bald eagle! Up close! It was sitting at the top of a balsam tree by the road, so I pulled over and zoomed in on it with my camera. Got some great shots, too! I'll try to include one here. (Can we post pictures here? Hm. Just looked and can't figure out how.)
I did pretty well with the eating, especially at our friends' house where we stayed. I watched my portions, didn't snack, etc. Toward the end of our stay, we went out to eat a few times and I also had a couple of ice cream cones. That made my weight go up about 4 pounds overall when I weighed in back at home! But it's already gone after just 3 days back in the saddle, so I'm feeling pretty good about things. I hope to finally hit onederland this month!
Judy, happy belated birthday! And good for you, getting a handle on the eating. I know that excursions and events often present special challenges for you; I'm rooting for you in that area.
Bandit, a half pound after Thanksgiving??? Color me VERY impressed.
Princess, ((HUGS)) to you, too, on your being between jobs. I love the idea of your looking at new horizons and possibilities. I hope you can follow your dreams and find something you love.

All goes well here. Met my friend for a short walk on the boardwalk at the beach and then headed to my local Macy's to pick up some clothes on sale for my grandkids. Both were very successful and I'm feeling good about it.
Lost more weight yesterday even though we headed out to dinner. Who knew that an entree salad with shrimp and scallops (very few of each) might be a good dinner? Yes, I was hungry later, but there was a high fiber piece of bread that did the trick and let me get to sleep without being too hungry.

Princess -- I am so sorry to hear about your job. ::hugs:: But you are more than on top of it in terms of your WL and staying on track, which shows that you have learned well from WW, so it becomes a lifestyle, not a habit. That is incredible. I think you have an excellent attitude, and that will get you far. It's true, "this too shall pass".
It sounds like everyone else is either doing well or calmly and effectively dealing with small setbacks. That's the spirit!
I weighed-in Wednesday after what I have been thinking of as "the month of h*ll" (one long month of outrageous hours, including a last week of 60 hours, and a family vacation.) I am up 1.5. Considering that I wasn't really able to workout for a month, I had all that work stress and THEN I went on a family vacation, I think I'm doing pretty well. :) That puts me at close to my max for lifetime (142), but I'll take it back off again. Did a lite workout this week, just to get back into the swing of things, 30 minutes on the elliptical Tuesday, again Thursday and 30 minutes of spin class on Friday. Working on counting points better.
Going house hunting today with a friend, and then dinner with a friend and her extended family. I'm not sure anymore if now is the right time to buy a house, but we'll see. I could get an extraordinary deal. Especially with a new build. But the house could also lose value in the next year. And my co-workers are making noises again about the company folding if we don't get a grant extension for our current project (they have been saying this for two years, but still, it makes me nervous.)
If I do get a house, I probably won't sign a contract until mid to late December, so I can have a better idea how things will go with work and the market. My parents can't help me anymore, they can't take the money out of their retirement with the market as it is, so it's just me, myself and I. Thank god for FHA loans.

I'm doing fine. I'm keeping busy, watching what I eat, and planning for the rest of the week. Dh and I had lunch out and I approximated what I think the points were for my lunch. All goes well and I'm looking forward to our big Halloween party this Saturday. It should be lots of fun. We have a few more people attending this year. I'm going as "static cling". I'm going to wear all black and then pin tiny socks and clothes and those fabric softener sheets to my clothes. I'm also going to try to make my hair static-y and then spray it up. Not sure how that's going to work, but I've got a headband I can use as a back up plan. Should be fun and couldn't be an easier costume.

Happy Tuesday all! Well I have good and bad news... The bad news is the weight loss is not going so well, I seem to keep doing things that I know I should not do! The good news is that I found a job! It is a contract position for 14 months as a project coordinator for a large insurance company... I will actually make more then I do now and it was my very first interview! I feel very very blessed and am looking forward to the change. I am also very nervous and scared about starting a new job and having the pressure of coming up to speed as quickly as they need someone to. All in all it was a very overwhelming week last week. I start my new job tomorrow.

All: We had another crisis on Monday. <sigh> And then I couldn't (or rather, I didn't!) get to working out on Tuesday. I made it tonight, but had to quit after about 20 minutes. My stupid new shoes are so big I was sliding around, and in step class, that means you're likely to twist or break something. I'll have to return them and get new ones. I'm not doing well on tracking points or even working out, but I can fix this...right now, I'm focusing on getting back into working out 3x a week and not letting work override my fitness and health goals. As we enter deadline season at my company (all our work is grant based, so there are MANY projects due at the end of the year), things are going to get frantic.
But, if nothing else, I will NOT go above my allowed goal amount. If I can stay below 142 and work out 3x a week until the end of the year, I will consider myself successful. Wish me luck. :o
Judy: Thank you. I'm thinking I'll put off the house buying for another six months to a year, we've had some uncertainty at work and my parents can't help me with a downpayment anymore. Their retirement account has lost too much in the market downturn. They need to keep the money there so it can gain value again. Your party sounds like fun, and what a creative costume. Enjoy! (Also, down from vacation is good!)

Bandit, did you have fun with your GF?
It took me a while to get out of work yesterday, but I still went to the gym for 30 minutes, lifted weights. Better than nothing. I figure if I can get into a routine it will be esaier to get out the door on time.
Counted points yesterday. On points except the oil I used to make my dinner; I probably used 2 tbsp of olive oil to make my grilled cheese. However, I don't really get the oil we're supposed to get, so I guess that's just 3 days worth. I don't use oil and that kind of thing a lot to cook food. I had been using Pam, but it makes my pain incredibly sticky.
Maybe I just need to buy one (or two) new non-stick sandwhich-sized skillets and call it a day?

Ariana, I like your realistic goals for now till the end of December. It would be very easy to bemoan and say "I can't do this; things are too stressful, etc. etc." but you're not doing that. You are saying that if I do these stated things like exercising 3X weekly I can accomplish my goals. Good for you!
I am going to restate my goals. Exercise 3X a week, stay at my daily points and record them, use 35flex points when I need them, and concentrate on joy in other places than food.

Ladies: Well, I made it to the gym for a third time this week tonight, so I made that part of the goal for this week. :) I went out to dinner with a friend. It's very hard to point out restaurant food, but I had 3 pieces of a 12 inch, very thin crust, and a salad with lots of veggies and a little corn, a tiny bit of cheese, and a small amount of dressing, so, maybe, 4 points for the salad and 8 for the pizza? Something like that. Anyway. I was strong -- I was craving sweets, so I got a desert at starbucks, but I only ate half of it (3 points for half and gave the rest away) and I resisted a 4th piece of pizza at dinner, because I wanted it, but I wasn't really hungry. (I always want the food if it's there in front of me. It's compulsive. That's one of the reasons I have to measure out my food.)

I have stayed on track this weekend but think maybe my portions have been too large - so have to get back to smaller portions next week.
Made a nice dish today with leftover chili.
Cooked spaghetti squash topped with 3 cups leftover chil (no beans) and 1 cup shredded light mozzeralla. Baked @ 350 until cheese was melted.
This made about 6 servings @ 245 cal/serving - so guessing about 5 points.
Judy - nice job on restating your goals.
Princess - hope you are keeping on track this week.
Ariana - yes, my gf usually comes over once a week for dinner. She commutes to work but her work is closer to my houses than hers - so makes it easier to get together at this time. We try different recipes so makes it fun.
For Tops next week we were asked to fill out our goals that we would like to meet by Dec 17th which is our last w/i of the year. My goal is to lose 8# by then - I think that is realistic since we will soon be into the Christmas party season.
Here's to us all focussing, exercising, drinking water & making better choices.

Ladies: I'm tired, and cranky. I keep getting out of work late, and my spin teacher has apparently been snippy about people who come in late. Crikey. My hip hurts, I was limping today. I'm hoping it's only temporary. I hate the people who put out Halloween candy dishes -- well, okay, I don't hate them, I just hate that they can resist the candy. I had three pieces today, two smarties and a mini pack of M & M's, but I guess it could have been worse. ::sigh:: Going to go take a shower and see if the world doesn't look better afterwards. Had fun at my Tops meeting last night - almost everyone dressed up, which was nice. I was BIggest Loser based on last week's w/i so was happy with that. Was down 1/2# for this week - will try to do better next week.
No more pie/doughnuts for sure.
Challenge for us all is halloweeen treats. Just try and keep it under control.
I am not buying my candy until tomorrow since I have day off. Too tempting having it sit in house beforehand.

Ladies: do any of you have an etools code you could give me? I can't find my week one book and I wanted to sign up for it. I was looking at my cupboards...Fry's just had a double/triple coupon deal, and I have all this food...I was thinking I might splurge for the WW etools so I can search for recipes by ingredient and use up some goodies without splurging on points.
Otherwise today is okay. Tired. Going riding for several hours this weekend, so I skipped working out today. Riding is a good workout, but I won't be able to move Sunday. Ah well. It will be worth it.
Bandit -- congrats on your loss. 1/2# the week of Halloween is AWESOME.

Hey ladies. Hope you had a good weekend. Two pieces of good news, one minor, one major.
Minor good news: I found my activation code for e-tools, so, never mind. I have what I need there. :)
Major good news: I don't know if I told you, but before I left for Chicago (beginning of October), none of my jeans from winter 2007 fit. I was quite unhappy about that, as I'm sure you can understand. Feeling optimistic this morning, I tried on a pair -- and they fit comfortably. :) :) :) I thought -- maybe it's a fluke, it's just this pair! So I tried on another pair. Same result. ::Big grin:: So I'm feeling (understandably) triumphant. :carrot: :carrot: :carrot:

Ariana - that is great news about the jeans! Good going - really must make you feel good.
Halloween was fun - my gf came over for dinner and made a shrimp stir-fry
and I handed out candy til 9 pm & she went home & my neighbour came over and was going to late-night bingo with her mother-in-law so I decided to go as well.
We both dressed up - I went as the devil and she was a skeleton & I ended up winning $1,000 on a 3 line game - so that was very exciting.
Raked leaves for 4 hours over the weekend & my butt and back are sore.
Going swimming tonight with neighbour and will have a hot-tub, so that should help make me feel better.
I have done very well over weekend with my menus & hoping for a loss at Tops this Wednesday.
Hope all you other ladies survived the Halloween treats. Almost all of my candy is gone & the rest I put in my dd bedroom since she has a sweet tooth.
Have a great OP week & lets all lose some weight!!!

Hi! Sorry I've been missing, but it's been crazy around here! My ds finds himself in a bad situation and we're trying to help. It requires a lot of emotion and sadness and I've been eating up a storm. I'm hoping to get a pot of soup on the stove and get back on track. It's okay that I keep slipping because I will get this done (weight loss) one day at a time.

This is such very good news. I am so happy for you that you've made it into onederland. What a wonderful accomplishment. Lots of determination and hard work and finding what works for you all added up to a great weight loss. You are so encouraging to me that I may be able to tackle this and see some progress! Congrats!

I'm not doing great, but am putting myself on track today and may even head to an extra WW meeting tonight. I need to put myself first and I just got a call that I need to babysit my grandson tomorrow. I've got to put a good spin on this and make sure that I go there with an eating plan.

Ladies: I am so bad. I felt exhausted when I woke up, so I took the day off, went back to bed until 10, then cleaned until 4. Skipped my workout, but I'll get it in on T/W/F, now, because my date for Friday night was move to Thursday night. My house is all clean (I'm having a party Saturday), the cake is ordered, and I'll be sure to get some veggies and chop some fresh fruit for the party. I finished the evening by sewing from 4-7:30; I finished one of the two PJ's for my mom, and I need another 2-3 hours to finish the other pair. Then all I have left are the (many) blankets. Ahem. At least Christmas is not for two months-ish. :P
Bandit -- Re the jeans: thank you, it feels wonderful indeed. :) Congrats and your winnings, and remember, the yard work was painful, but it burned calories too. Small mercies and all that. :P Good luck at Tops Wednesday.
Judy: RE the jeans: thanks for the congrats. I'm thrilled. :) Re your son: I am sorry to hear about the family troubles. I think, in stressful times it's important to forgive yourself, pick yourself up off the floor and start again. Feeling guilty about overeating produces one of our least favorite downward spirals. So forget about that. Soup is a good start, but find something to reduce your stress. I'd quilt and work-out, you would... fill in the blank with something you love. It could help reduce your stress and make it easier not to overeat. Also remember that, as someone who has been doing this for a while, your idea of over-eating is probably different than it was before, and so, don't be so hard on yourself. You're doing what's important: recognizing the issue, strategizing, moving on.

Ariana, thanks for the pep talk. It always helps to have someone else put things in perspective! Hey, you had a wonderful day away from work. Good luck on your date--and a party--your social life is sounding great.
I regrouped yesterday, kept telling myself that I can do this. I've had a lot of experience lately with :overeating, weighing myself, figuring out how to repair the damage, and doing the damage repair, then getting better figures on the scale: So yesterday I wasn't depressed about the food. I figured out what would fill me in and be on the lower points side. I tracked and in the meantime I got the house back in shape by doing quite a bit of housework.
I've also started decorating for Thanksgiving which will be here in USA in about three weeks. I stepped on the scale and the major gain is gone.
My next challenge is to keep the scale going downward. I can do this.
