I did it Idid it I lost four pounds wow this diet works it really works yippeee
DH has lost 6 pounds and is so darn happy.
This is simply great :carrot:
Ok calmed down now we are both so pelased that we have started to lose weight again we had got to a point where nothing was working so we took a look around and decided the South Beach diet was the way to go.
It was difficult to begin with but I am getting the hang of meals without loads of bad carbs and we feel so much better for it as well.

Glad you're having success on the diet :)

YAY Paula and DH! :cheer:
Is it possible to get the "flu" this late in the game? I woke up feeling like someone beat me in my sleep.
I'm doing phase 1 for a few more days.. Today is day 15 for me and I don't have any phase 2 food in the house until payday. That'll be Friday at the earliest.
And I feel like AF is coming.. I'm just full of complaints today. Nevermind me.

I am with the rest of the ladies :cheer: Paula and your hubby!!!! :carrot:
Brenda- I am sure doing phase one till friday will be ok if you have no other foods in the house, BUT if you can get your hands on some oats or fruit it wouldnt hurt to go ahead and add a serving of one or the other per day.
I am on day nine and down 5.5 pounds so I am thrilled!! I am just hoping our trip to the Cardinals game Thursday doesnt mess me up, I will try to be good ladies, but it will be SO hard, we go once a year and my hubby does NOT want me dieting LOL, Have a great one guys

I do have oats in the house but they're.. hmm.. just plain 5 minute oats I think... and I have bananas.. which is like the highest sugar content of any other fruit.

I am starting over on Phase 1 today. I went a little crazy at the fair over the weekend. I am excited that instead of giving up on the diet altogether I can just start over and get back on track.

Urgh, after 10 straight days of what turned out to be Phase 1, I started having REALLY, REALLY bad sugary cravings last night. I could have resisted them with a lot of willpower. But I caved. We had a pumpkin roll from the deli with cream cheese filling.. mm.. I had been craving pumpkin ALL FRIGGIN DAY.
I don't understand WHY I was craving things. The book says you'll banish cravings but that has never been the case for me.
I'm not blaming the cravings for my screwup, I am the one who decided to act upon them and I take responsibility. I'm just wondering why I had them when phase 1 is supposed to get rid of them.
Still, I'm at 190. Maybe by Christmas I'll be at 165? (wishful thinking!) I'm hoping and hoping and hoping my little sugarfest didn't up the scale any, as long as I eat OP for the rest of the day... (yes, I kinda had a thin slice of pumpkin roll for breakfast as well.. the other piece is for BF, I can't touch it cause I know he'll be mad cause he wants it when he gets home)
Made asiany chicken soup last night and after is when I had the cravings. It had a can of tyson white meat chicken, chicken boilloun, chopped onion, garlic and onion powder, green beans, soy sauce, ginger, sesame oil.. I guess it didn't hit the spot like I thought it did. Will have that for lunch and peanuts for a snack, probably shrimp stirfry or something for dinner. Not sure..
I hope what I had last night and this morning won't affect anything overall.. but it's pretty pathetic I can't even make it 11 days without wanting something junky.
I need to come up with a great sugar free dessert thing made with splenda to keep in the freezer for when I have these urges.. a sf fudgesicle just won't hit the spot. I was thinking last night about what sort of things I could make using splenda to kill the craving, and then thought about what time it was and that I needed something NOW, and said, screw it. I need a backup plan!
Urgh. I will never be 165 by Christmas, let alone even 170. Those are not goals I've set, I don't set goals like that anymore.. still, it's okay to dream, isn't it? hehe. :p

Mel - The cravings get easier to handle the more times you resist them. The first few are the hardest....the more you resist, the less the sugar monster will knock on your door.
Don't let this get you back into the bad cycle that you went through last time. You are not worthless because you had one mistake...just brush yourself off and make good decisions for the rest of the day. Praise yourself for the 10 OP plan days...not the half off plan day.
There is someone who has this in their signature here, but I really like it: It's a mantra of sorts - nothing tastes as good as being thin feels.
If you want some pumpkin recipes that are sugar free...let me dig. I have plenty that could easily be converted. In the mean time, check this out:

time to go put DS on the potty again. *sigh*

I definitely don't want to get into that bad cycle.. I really am determined to have some surprised looks at Christmas time. Last year I was let's see, 8 months pregnant, bloated with high blood pressure and was retaining fluid badly, and HUGE. So, some haven't seen me since then and I definitely want to have some jaws drop when I appear more like my old self, although I won't be at my original thin weight by then. Still, I want to look decent..
I just bought this adorable dress, a size 9/10, I have a pair of heels picked out that I want to go with it.. I'm size 14 (in which the pants are kinda loose) now. Do you think it would be unrealistic to want to be in size 9/10 by that time? I'm not sure how sizes correspond to weight and height and stuff so I wasn't sure if it was an unrealistic goal. So I need common sense from you guys to knock me on the head... if I'm dreaming, tell me! :)
That recipe is to die for. I'm going to cut out the flour and just bake it as is and maybe add one more egg to hold it together. Thanks!
Good luck with DS.. I imagine you're having a very interesting time. :p
zeffryn
09-23-2008, 02:07 PM
interesting...sure...
I wouldn't think it would be completely unrealistic to get into that dress by Christmas...but you're going to have to be diligent. The weather is getting nice outside - take your son for a walk outside for a half hour. He'll get to enjoy the weather and you'll get some exercise. :)
Also, I have no idea about Juniors sizes.... they never have fit me correctly, even when I weighed 120.

Good afternoon all,
Started Phase I with my fiance on Monday. I feel fine but he was feeling dizzy and sluggish in the evening (and of course whiny). Any ideas on what I can prepare him when he feels like this?
I heard you should eat beans but outside the realm of refried beans, I have limited knowledge of quick tasty bean recipes. Are there any other foods/recipes to counteract my loved ones dizziness compatible within the Phase I realm?
Thank you in advance for your help :D

beans (fiber) and dairy will help him - and it shouldn't last for long - a few days at worst.
Our family puts beans in eggs, soups, on top of salads, etc. I also like black beans mixed with salsa and heated with a little lf cheddar cheese on top.

I live in LaPlace, St. John Parish. We have home schooled for 4 years now, and I wouldn't do it any other way! I'm not sure how the public schools are where you live, but the ones here are terrible! We do lots of reading, family projects and field trips. (Lots of "hands on" learning.) The kids love it!
I am really feeling good about this diet. Day 13 for me. I don't have cravings, and I never really feel hungry. I have noticed that I have not lost much weight at all this second week. I lost five pounds during the first week, and only 1/2 to 1 lb this week. My clothes are fitting better now, so I'm not really too worried about it. I will do my official weigh in tommorrow. A friend told me that because I am getting near my goal weight is the reason why I'm not seeing that 10 to 14 lb weight loss. Oh well. I really feel good about this diet anyway and feel like it's something I can continue.
I have a question. I was going to make the chicken enchilada dish recipe, which called for an enchilada seasoning packet. I noticed that the first ingredient was corn flour. I assumed that this was a big no no, so I didn't get it. Can someone tell me if I was wrong in my thinking. Thank you!
Have a great day!!!!

Zeff, I'm not sure if this dress is Juniors cause I bought it from a secondhand shop. It was brand new though, still had the tags on. Someone never wore it! They had it hanging in the store window, BF pointed it out and I snatched it right up. He thinks I should wear it now. I think he's insane! Anyway, it probably is a juniors though, because of the style.. young and flirty... then again I don't know. I wish they'd have a section in stores called 'teens' and then a section called 'twenty-somethings' since the styles between teens and 20's can be similar.. so I'd have a better idea of sizing! I've got a vision of me in this dress with a pair of classy (non hookery) yet sexy pale pink heels and I envision it with me standing by a Christmas tree! I hope, hope, hope.
I was going to get on the exercise bike but it's uncomfortable and it hurts and it's really hard to do for an hour. I thought I'd try to burn off some of the excess junk from eating that pumpkin roll but taking a walk sounds like a better idea. I could always have the image of that dress in my head as motivation.. I've got some hooker heels (well that's what I call 'em) I've been wearing with my jeans now that I can balance on them (harder to do so when heavier) and they make my legs hurt. I'm hoping that counts as exercise. Hah. Baby is down for a nap, when he's up I'll bet I could manage a walk.
Hi Marissalove, I have an idea... hot chocolate. Skim milk with some hershey's cocoa (the pure plain bitter kind) and splenda. A splash of vanilla extract and the smallest pinch of salt. Mix and microwave. It always helped me. The protein paired with the lactose (milk sugar, which equals to good carbs) helps a lot.

RnMom, I made that stuff using a can of enchilada sauce but then I saw it's got no no ingredients in it.
I would just mix in some spicy salsa with the chicken and some tomato paste and cook it like that, maybe with some chiles or cumin or something.

Mel - if it is a 9/10, it's a juniors. Non juniors sizes run even sizes (2,4,etc.)
I'm not a big fan of department stores...I despise Juniors clothes and the adult sections usually don't have styles that I wear. They are good for basics though - long sleeved t-shirts, sweaters, etc. I buy jeans at stores like Banana Republic because they fit like a dream. They are spendy though.
and um....wearing heels doesn't count as exercise...it makes your legs hurt because of the unnatural angles that it puts your muscles at.

I hate junior clothes too. My 12 y/o is just starting to fit those sizes and everything is waaaaay to grown up! It's tough trying to find cute, stylish clothes with any degree of modesty, it seems!
The last pair of jeans I bought was from Old Navy. They fit OK, but not like "a dream" for sure. After 5 c/sections, and a 60 lb weight loss, I'm left with saggy, flabby, loose skin on my lower tummy. I have to buy jeans to fit my waist and tummy, but then the hips and legs are usually too roomy! One day, I hope I can get that issue taken care of.
Mel- did you like that enchilada stuff? I love Mexican food, so I figured I'd give it a try. I'll try it with salsa and see how it comes out.

I've found that Old Navy jeans have too much lycra in them. I've been buying Banana Republic and Gap jeans since I had DS and REALLY like the fact that they don't have any lycra. The denim is heavy and holds everything in perfectly. They also offer a curvy line that is fantastic.
Have you tried the new Levi's jeans? They are called perfectly slimming jeans. I've heard they are great and I'll probably give them a try after the baby is born. I do own a pair of their curvy bootcuts and I love them.
I'm reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally a slut for good jeans.

Ahh, was wondering. I don't even know if that thing will ever even fit then, since it's juniors. I don't know a thing about sizes.
and um....wearing heels doesn't count as exercise...it makes your legs hurt because of the unnatural angles that it puts your muscles at.
Sigh. One can dream.
RnMomof5, I agree, a lot of those styles they make are not appropriate for 12 year olds. I'm tired of seeing young girls dressed like Paris Hilton.. it's just not right. You're 16... not 21. Stop it! Parents, stop letting them wear this stuff. It's fodder for pervs.
Oh, that stuff was really good. You mean the chicken enchiladini recipe made with the cottage cheese and sourcream? It was great. I had mine on top of salad.
Re: jeans, my grandma bought me a pair of Liz Clairborne bootcuts. They are nice but loose, so I'm thinking that means I'm not quite a size 14. Yay!

Oh yeah, forgot to ask. So then, would a 9/10 in juniors mean large or medium?
zeffryn
09-23-2008, 05:40 PM
no idea of the conversion. I've never really worn juniors sizes.
also, remember that sizes fluctuate so much between brands....I have a pair of size 12 jeans that fit perfectly....also, a pair of size 18 jeans that fit perfectly....and they are the same brand, just different styles.
Ironically enough, the size 12 still fit with a bella band and the 18's do not.

Mel- Yes, that chicken enchaladini stuff. I'm really a sucker for Mexican food. I hope I like it. We eat enchiladas and tacos regularly.
I don't do much clothes shopping. I usually have a hard time and don't really know about the different styles and cuts of jeans. (I've had 5 kids within the past 12 years, so maternity and stretch clothes were my "norm." I'm also short, so that kind of makes things a little harder. I am finally at a point where I feel like I look "normal" in clothes if that makes sense. For me, I never worried about dressing nice, or stylish beacuse I felt like I was too fat to look nice, no matter what I wore. But, this is a new period in life for me now, so I guess I will just have to try on to be able to see the best fits for me. I will try those Levi's on. BTW I have never even been in The Banana Republic store! I just might have to go!

BR jeans are expensive - I think I paid $90 for my last pair. They look so nice and they last a long time that I'll gladly save to buy them. In my thinking, I would rather have just a few pairs of jeans that look really great than tons of pairs of cheap jeans that don't look nice.
They do have decent sales though...especially at the end of season. AND...if you can find an outlet...even better. The outlet in Gonzales isn't around anymore, but there are some in Alabama and Texas.

Hi Everyone,
I started phase 1 yesterday. Yesterday was a little hard for me. I was always hungry. I did better today. TOM is here and I really didn't feel up to working out but went a head and did it.

You shouldn't go more than 3 hours or so without eating as it will cause a drop in your metabolism. One of the big points to SBD is keeping your metabolism in tip top shape all day....and the only way to do that is to provide it fuel (or cocaine...but I really don't condone that).
It might help to post what you've eaten yesterday and today....see if anybody has any pointers. It has always helped me immensely.

ACK... so i woke up this morning feeling like I'd been shot from a canon. Pain in my back and side. It got pretty bad this afternoon so I called the doc and he called me back... he thinks I have a kidney infection based on the pain and the fact that it hurts to pee now. BOOO.. he told me to call tomorrow for an appointment (all the secs were gone).. and to drink a crapload of cranberry juice for the next few days. I asked if the diet stuff was ok and he said to try it. *whew*
So I actually found the diet ocean spray and it's made with splenda... and has only 5 calories. I can live with that.. even if it's only 8% fruit juice.. at least it's something.
Also bought apples at the store and had 1/2 of one with my girls tonight. I swear it was like CANDY .. so sweet and good.
lunch was tuna salad... dinner was baked haddock and salad... and the apple.

Brenda - if you can find it, you may want to try unsweetened 100% cranberry juice.....since it has more juice in it, it will work faster. Also, cranberry pills are great for those kind of things.
Best wishes...I know what you're going through and I do not envy you ONE bit!

This is what I had yesterday.
For breakfast I had scrambled eggs with a little tomatoe and brocoli mixed in. The brocoli in there was actually pretty good. Oh some sausage (is that a no-no?)
Lunch was a peace of sirloin steak with a salad and SBD ranch. I had lunch after working out. In between lunch and dinner I had SF jello with FF whip cream. Dinner was baked chicken with green beans.
Today- Breakfast= Scrambled eggs w/ reduced fat cheddar (tiny bit) and brocoli, 1 sausage link, 1 cup of coffee with splenda and low carb milk,
Snack- 1 tbsp natural PB
Lunch- sirloin steak and small salad w/ SB ranch, water

Hi Everyone,
I started phase 1 last Monday, so today will be day 10. I've only lost 2 lbs so far, which was a little disappointing, but I do feel like I'm losing inches, my clothes don't feel as tight, so I'm happy about that. I'm doing the 30 Day Shred 5 days a week too, but I am having problems with craving sweets still. I was making the suggested ricotta desserts from the book, but they didn't quite fulfill the craving. I haven't caved in yet, but I bought SF Fudgsicles yesterday, and last night I wanted more than one. I was wondering if continuing to have sweets, even if they are SF, is fueling my craving for more. Should I try to just give up SF sweets altogether for while? Just wondering if anyone had any advice with this. Thanks.
zeffryn
09-24-2008, 07:21 PM
tferq - I had to do that for a few days. It was just as easy for me to overdo it with sugar free sweets. I think I gave up all sweets for 4 days, and after that, it was easier to just have one of something and be satisfied.
Also, you don't have much to lose at all...so you're not going to be getting huge losses with Phase 1. Think of it in terms of percentages. You've lost more than 10 percent of the weight you have to lose already! Great job!

I did it! Today is day 14!!!! No more cravings. I'm looking foreward to P2. I'm not sure if I should add a fruit or a grain at first. My weight loss was only 1 lb the second week, for a total of 6 lbs on P1. It's a little less than what I had hoped for, but I'll take it none the less!

Thanks zeffryn, when you put it in those terms, it looks much more impressive. I need to keep that in perspective. I have 4 more days to go on phase 1, so I'll try cutting out the SF treats for those 4 days, then maybe I can go into phase 2 without the cravings. Maybe you mentioned it in the past, but I'm just curious, what is there "91 days left" until?
RNmomof5-- I'm so impressed! 62 lbs lost, what an inspiration. Great job.
BrendaS104--I hope your feeling better. The antibiotic should clear it up quick once you get it. It's really amazing how quickly it helps with the symptoms. And of course, lots and lots of water. :)
Thanks to everyone, it is so nice to have a place to come and read about others experiences and get support from those who are going through similar things. It really is inspirational to read about others successes! Thanks for sharing your experiences and advice.

Blah... I caught DH's cold. I've been hacking all morning. It's all in my chest too. And I can't talk without coughing. No idea what I'll be able to eat today since I can't swallow without pain. grrrrrrrrrrrr.
I think I screwed up last night. I hadn't eaten anything and DH asked if I wanted a chicken breast that he had just grilled. I said yes.. and he gave it to me on a sandwich. :( I ended up eating it.. at least it was whole wheat bread. And technically I'm suppose to be doing phase II.
Do I have to start over?
Oh and I lost the 2 pounds that I gained yesterday. Not sure what was up with that but at least they're gone again.

RNMomof5 - You probably won't see those 10-15 lb. weight losses like others see because you have so little to lose. 6 lbs. is impressive! You lost half the weight you want to lose in 2 weeks! That is AWESOME!
Tferq - I'm pregnant :) I'm taking those pounds that all of you are losing ;)
Brenda - if you're on P2, then no...don't start over. I know you aren't feeling well, but it is still important for you to eat so you aren't tempted to eat more than you should or what you shouldn't. Remember that 1 slice of ww bread counts as a serving...so two counts as two, obviously. The two pounds was probably just water - most of us fluctuate up to 5 pounds. Hope you feel better soon!!
Has anyone ever noticed that most of us that have weight to lose also eat the least? Before I really studied nutrition and metabolism, I rarely ate...There are days when I would have maybe 500 calories and then there were days that I wouldn't eat anything and when I would finally eat something - I would go overboard. It is VERY important to eat frequently. Having snacks ready to go for me to just grab was the only way that I could find success because I was always too busy or too tired to make snacks. When I had a little container - I had no more excuses. For the first few weeks, I set an alarm to remind myself and eventually it became habit.

I had only been doing SB for....6 weeks or so before I found out I was pregnant. I lost 10 on P1, and another 7 in the following weeks.
I still use SB tactics - especially the eating frequently. My doctor told me my calorie intake should be above 2500 calories as long as I continued to exercise 5 times a week. Following SB (but adding more protein, a few more carbs, etc.) principals and frequent exercise, I've only gained 6 lbs. so far. I can tell my weight is really shifting...my legs are toning up a lot and my hips are smaller - even though there is a big baby belly on top. I feel really good! My blood pressure has stayed on the lower end of normal as well.

That's awesome! I followed SB phase II when I was pregnant with the twins and the docs would lecture me and tell me to add calories because I didn't gain 1 single pound the whole pregnancy. 5 days after having the girls I weighed and was 50 pounds lighter than when I got pg. The docs were so confused.
Then I had emergency gall bladder surgery.. and they put me on a low FAT diet.. dieticians made up a menu that was ALL pasta, rice, veggies.. chicken...potatoes. Mostly high carb stuff. And of course I gained every pound of the 50 back. My body just does NOT like bad carbs. *sigh*

Brenda, I had my gallbladder out too. After 2 severe attacks that put me in the ER, I was on a low fat, high carb diet for 1 week while I waited for my surgery date (they didn't want to do emergency surgery). So, what did I eat? Bread and bagels... for almost every meal!! I felt so guilty!

Hi all the new ladies.
So today is my last phase 1 day. I don't necessarily want to move out of it but I think I'll add back blueberries since they're frozen in my freezer.
I'll get some plain nonfat yogurt and mix them in.
And I am going to get SF chocolate pudding.. I'm craving it.

Zeff, what sort of exercises are you doing that are making your legs more noticeably toned and your hips smaller? Share the wealth!
Brenda, Jenksi, gallbladder attacks suck! So relieved when mine finally came out. The doctors never understood why I had mine out. They said it usually happened in older patients who were overweight. I was 15 and thin. Who knows. Thin doesn't necessary mean healthy, I know, but I was pretty healthy.
Urgh you guys, I want to be at least in the 180's before the end of September which is quickly, quickly approaching, but it doesn't look like it. I'm still at 190. My cheat with the pumpkin roll the other day seems to have got me stuck at a stall. My fault, my fault. I ate plain porkchop last night and broccoli with the smallest amount of 2% milk cheddar to make up for it, but the weight loss has slowed down. I guess it's obvious that it's really time to move on for good to phase 2... I don't plan on going back to phase 1 anymore.
I don't want to set goals but I would so much like to lose 25 lbs by Christmas. That would involve losing 8.3 lbs in October, November, and December before the 25th, and I don't think I'll be able to do that. But it'd be nice.

Mel - you're setting yourself up to fail by telling yourself that you "don't think" you'll be able to do that. A positive mindset is the key to things like this. If you want to be losing that kind of weight (slightly more than 2 lbs. a week) you are definitely going to need to up your exercise and really take the diet seriously - no more binges! Being positive and telling yourself that YOU CAN DO IT! is a really powerful thing.
Also, I've been jogging/walking with DH and DS at least 5 days a week, cycling at the gym twice a week, and doing prenatal yoga and pilates. The consistent jogging/walking/cycling has removed a lot of fat and the yoga/pilates has toned them up. I really don't want to be in the same boat as last time - I didn't gain a ton of weight, but I was pretty sedentary and I lost a lot of drive to work out after the baby was born. I'm hoping that by establishing good habits now, I'll keep them after the baby is born. The best thing about all the exercise? I'm happy. Really happy. My hormones are not nearly as bad as they were with my first pregnancy and I actually feel good about my beach ball self....especially in my cycling class (they have a special preggo seat).

I know what you mean. But I'm scared to say "I WILL be 25 lbs lighter by Christmas" because then people might say, "well don't set goals, because you'll be dissapointed when you fail." Which would be also true, if I told myself I will lose that much by then, and I fail, and I screw up, I'll not be a happy camper.. But I have read a book on creative visualization that talks a lot about positive affirmations that over time, retrain your thinking and help you achieve any goal you wish to achieve. And a book on self hypnosis which gets you into the meditative state and then you give yourself positive affirmations and etc. Both books are books my hippy father gave to me, he is into meditation and claims he can feel himself rise out of his body. Not sure about all of that, but there are some good points to those books. I've read a lot lately about positive affirmations. Maybe I need to start telling myself everyday "I will be 20 to 25 lbs lighter by Christmas and fit into that dress".
I wish I had taken the time during pregnancy to get into shape as you have done. Exercising really does make one happy... if only that feeling would motivate me more to work out more frequently. After you give birth I imagine you won't be so far from your goal, what with all the healthy things you've been doing to get yourself into shape! I was told to walk daily during my pregnancy but never did. I should have. I have an exercise bike so I'm going to start cycling more. If it works for you then surely it'll work for me... I want to start seeing a difference. Not to sound all sycophantic or anything but, you're a good role model for anyone. I remember how pregnancy was like. If you can do all of that whereas a lot of other people who aren't pregnant don't bother to (such as myself!), then that's pretty amazing to me. Now I feel I've got to keep up! There's no reason why I can't work out and do all of those things. Absolutely no reason. I just don't. I could, but then I don't and I'll make excuses about being lazy, which it's true I'm lazy, but that's not a good excuse to not do it. How should I force myself to do it and keep doing it? I'll exercise vigourously for a couple of days and then fall right off of the wagon.
How is everyone else doing on the whole phase 1 thing?
zeffryn
09-25-2008, 02:51 PM
Don't say that either....say I can be 25 lbs. lighter by Christmas IF I do this and this....and don't let yourself fail.
Think of it this way. Do you want your son to grow up with the same thoughts regarding food and exercise? No, right? I want my son to grow up with a healthy respect for food (that it is fuel for your body - not something to be used when you are feeling down) and an enthusiasm to get up and get moving! I hope that he is the type of child who wants to go outside and ride his bike, play sports, and just run - instead of a kid who sits inside all day long and plays video games. Who better to be a role model to him than my DH and I? Although, he will never have to worry about getting chunky. DH is 6'6 and 190 (b@stard).

BF is the same way, tall and not a weight problem to worry about at all. Although he eats very unhealthily.
I want DS to be healthy and fit and pass that on to his kids. I don't want him to start talking and one of his first little gems being, "mommy, you're fat." hehe. Though, no one thinks I'm fat which is the advantage of being almost 5'9 and having my weight well distributed. I look hip-py and have extra padding in my butt and thighs at the worst. But I look in the mirror and honestly do not think I look fat. Some extra weight, definitely, but my mom and I carry it well. Not as slender as I would like and too round in some areas. But not fat although technically I am according to my weight. A lot of people that know me would be shocked to know I weigh 190. My BF has no idea. So any loss at all by Christmas ought to look even better. BUT, I want to wear that dress. I want to lose enough to wear that dress.
I want Christmas photos of me, BF and my son, where I look like a young healthy 23 year old mommy, as I'll be 23 by then. I don't want to be chunky-looking in pictures that my DS will be looking at 20 years from now. I don't want to be wearing figure flattering dark blue jeans with a cute top to appear slimming, I want to actually be slim in appearance and be wearing that friggin' dress.
I think 165, while overweight for shorter girls, would look good on me since 190 doesn't look so bad on me as it is.
But it's like you said.. I have to do this and this to achieve that.
"I can be 25 lbs lighter by Christmas if I exercise regularly and stick to a healthy and nutritious diet plan, and not fall into temptation and give into binges." I've got to repeat this as I force myself to cycle.
And I MUST, must must, make some sort of splenda dessert so when those cravings do hit, I've got an emergency plan. Because those cravings will hit. I know it. So I've got to have a plan in place.

Congratulations on the pregnancy zeffryn! I gained 45lbs when I was pregnant with my son. Way too much I know, but I was in school full time and blah, blah blah, excuses, excuses...I ate what I wanted and didn't exercise is the reality. My main goal through this is to become healthier in order to model good eating and activity habits for my son, who is now 7 months old. Also, I'm 39 years old and DH is 43, so we need to keep our activity level up so we'll be able to keep up with him!
Only a few more days on P1, and I really thought I'd be looking forward to P2, but like I've read from so many others, I'm hesitant about it. I feel like I'm making good progress here in P1, and I don't want to wreck it. I've found enough P1 recipes, where I don't really feel deprived. So is it ok stay on P1 for longer than 2 weeks or is it really necessary to move to P2?

Hi Tferg and welcome - a bit late, I know.
Phase I is not a good idea for more than the two weeks. You need the additional nutrients that you will get in Phase II. Most people who had trouble switching over added way too many carbs right away. Check out the FAQ notes in Phase II. Most people move into Phase I.5 for a while.

Thanks Ruthxxx- Today is day 11 of Phase 1 for me. I weighed myself this morning, and I probably shouldn't have because I've gained back the only 2lbs that I've lost so far. I've been sticking to the phase 1 food list, and I've been doing the "30 Day Shred" exercise video everyday. I'm wondering if I may just be taking in too many calories? I know the SBD isn't a calorie counting diet, but I've read on other forums that some do recommend counting as well. Also, I know a 2lb wt gain can be water weight, and it is nearly that time of the month, but still...it's discouraging. :(
zeffryn
09-26-2008, 09:36 AM
Tferq - it's probably just water as I really doubt that you took in 7,000 extra calories! And if you did....point me in the direction of wherever you got it ;)
I gain usually between 4-6 lbs. of water during TOM - and I have my fat pants ready.
Calorie counting can sometimes be a necessary tool, especially if you have problems with portion control. I don't think it is necessary on P1, however. It is usually the other way around of people not getting enough calories!
tferg2000
09-26-2008, 09:47 AM
Thanks zeffryn, You're right, I'm sure I didn't take in 7,000 extra calories, but I'm not sure why I'm not losing any weight on P1. I guess I'll just stay with it, and maybe try to forget about the scale for a while! Since my main goal is getting healthy and active, I'll just stay on plan and keep my activity up and see how it goes. I don't usually have problems with portion control, so I guess I'll put off counting calories. That was one of the attractive features of the SBD, no counting.
The bad part is, my DH is doing this with me "part-time" (he eats breakfast out every morning and has bread with it) and he's already lost 6 lbs. I know I can't compare my weight loss to his, but still... :(

Tferg, you also do not have much to lose which always makes weightloss slow and it could be TOM. Never EVER compare your rate of loss to that of a man! They are a different species.

i am not doing SB per se but i think this would be ok...
plain yogurt with cocoa powder and Sf coffee syrup (i used hazelnut).
WARNING! you will need fake sweetner. is way way too bitter without.:p
mix all together and chill in fridge. LOOKS like pudding and texture of pudding.
but it aint pudding but IS tasty.

Hi everyone. I'm new here, and i've been bouncing around getting familiar with the place and asking all manner of questions. I have PCOS, and my doctor recommended I do the SBD. I'll admit, it's damn intimidating to start! Right now I'm considering myself in the planning and buying phase - figuring out how I'll make it work. I'm not really officially on it just yet (I suppose what I'm doing now is more like 1.5), but I expect to be within a day or so. Really, even this much is kicking my carb addictions arse. The afternoon munchies came around and I was SO glad I planned for that last night and had fresh veggies cut, washed, and ready for when those cravings hit.
So, great to meet you all, and I hope I won't be too annoying with all my questions! And, if anyone wants to get to know me better, I have a blog on here. That first intro entry is HUGE though! :D

Well... being sick with 3 different infections/virus' is GREAT for weight loss.. not so great for keeping with the program.
I have DH's cold now, in addition to the kidney infection... I took cold meds last night at 9pm and was out 15 minutes later. DH woke me up at 1PM today. yup.. I slept 16 hours. Woke up 5 pounds lighter. Seriously WTF??? Then this afternoon a ended up sick with tummy issues... got seriously weak and dehydrated. DH started pushing the fluids and MADE me eat some chicken noodle soup. I'm quite sure those weren't whole wheat noodles in that progresso soup. I DO feel better.. except I could go back to sleep right now and sleep until Monday.
Oh well.. I guess there's always restarting phase I next week. *sigh*

Hi Misty Paw. Ask away. I sure do. :D

So today, I microwaved some blueberries and had them with some SF cheesecake pudding today. The blueberries were terrible, because they were frozen and I think they got freezer burnt. They were bitter. So, despite popular advice, my first added back item is basically just jello pudding.
I'm going to go get fruit or something tomorrow.

I don't think it is necessary to restart Phase 1 next week. Keep an eye on your body and if you start having cravings....then do a few days of Phase 1. You're far enough in that this small little slip won't hurt you in the least.
Drink that water, girl! Dehydration is icky. Hot tea always makes me feel better as well. Just focus on getting better....SB can wait.
Let's ditch the kids and sleep until Monday...that sounds wonderful. ;)

mmmmm...cheesecake pudding....were the blueberries bitter from the frozen state or just when they were heated?
I was telling Jenski that the sugar free dulce de leche pudding makes for an awesome apple dip - a rather autumn-y treat.

The Daily Chat is the Phase II thread as most of us are on Phase II.

This was Day 10 on Phase 1 for me--I can't break my addiction to weighing every day, so I know that I've already lost 7.5#! Yippee!!!! This is quite shocking because I am usually a very slow loser. Probably some came off fast because it was pig-out-before-the-new-diet weight gain, but at least it's gone and I'm almost into territory I haven't seen for a couple of years. I'm going away with some friends for a gal's vacation to Hilton Head at the end of October, and my admittedly ambitious goal is to lose 10 more pounds by then.
I'm excited! I need to figure out how to add a ticker.
