SEMO!! LOL!!!! My dads family was from Kentucky and I think I have heard every one of those!! I still say fixin.. "I'm fixin to go eat lunch" LOL!!
Oh and I didn't see this one: like ta (don't know if I spelled it right) but daddy would say "I like ta died when I heard that"
Once he let me drive his Lincoln when I was in high school to go pick my mom up and she was pissed. Daddy said "Your mom probably like ta had a baby when you drove up in that"
I *still* like "how nice" the best. I say that at work alot.
Are any of you doing atkins or a low carb diet? I had been at a plateau for ever so decided to jump start the ol' bod. And have doing a low carb thing, have lost 5 lbs in a week. So now I am in a better mood. Was at the plateau for about 2 mos. Very discouraging. But I feel better now.
How is everyone else doing? I sure wish Jen would pop her self in here.
have a great day ladies!!

Good Morning Ladies! Yes Mooz, Southerners are very nice people and when we are mean, it is usually in a nice way.... like the Now Nice story. :)
Exercised 44 minutes this morning before work so if nothing else it has helped put me in a better mood. I had a challenge with myself to get five hours in from last Thrusday to this Thursday and I have only 60 min left to meet that goal. Now I just need to wire my mouth shut!!
Lauri, I try to limit my carbs but still allow some each day. That seems to help me when I'm really serious about watching everything. And I have to admit that I use that "ta" also. I broke myself from a lot of those little sayings when we lived in St Louis. Guess they thought that I was a country hick.....wonder why!
I have jury duty tomorrow so keep your fingers crossed that they WON'T pick me. I really hate having to do this even tho I know it's my duty. I've served on county and federal before and it's no fun.
Chat later.

Hello All

We'll came back from my gambling trip... broke...But I had fun. My first day, I had no luck at all. No matter what I played, I lost. Yesterday, my luck turned, but by then it was time to come home. I did bring some money back, so I should consider that a win. Had lots of fun though. I did not do goo on my food or water. I did not pig out, it just I did not make good choices.. and on the water, I barely drank anything. But i'm back on track today.

Semo - I lived in Nashville when I was little & my cousins use to make fun of my words. I still say "fixin", "whatcha doing". Way to go on your exercise goal. I'm gonna have to set one for me this week. I have not exercised in 2 weeks...& i've gained 1.2 lbs.
Good luck on jury duty....

Lauri - Way to go on your 5 lb loss. What are you doing on the low carb? I know carbs are a problem for me, even when I eat within my points I eat mostly carbs. OH, and on the bike, way to go for getting over that hill. Hey, my bike has lots of gears, I don't even know how to use them... I just stay in one gear...

Mooz - Way to go on your walking... and for getting back on point. Hope your son get the computer all fixed up.

Spkrleyes37 - Way to go on your 3 lbs loss. I know I feel much better when I see a loss on the scales. And yes, all that walking is worth it especially when you see results...

Choose happiness

The expectation that only certain things can make you happy will continue to keep happiness out of your reach. Putting conditions on happiness serves only to prevent it from happening.
The assumption that conditions must improve before you can be happy is precisely backwards. For when you can truly be happy with who you are and with what you're doing, conditions cannot help but improve.

If you feel that you could never be happy with things the way they are, you're absolutely right. So choose to be happy, and things will no longer be the way they are -- they'll immediately start to get better.

Once you truly choose to be happy, then your thoughts and actions will reflect that choice. You'll be moving in the direction of your most treasured values and desires, rather than holding yourself back from them.

But isn't it naive or unrealistic or simplistic or disrespectful to choose happiness when the world is so filled with difficult and dangerous challenges? Not at all, because by choosing to be genuinely happy with yourself you're also choosing to be the best, the strongest, the most effective person you can be.

Lauri! Is there another Jen that posts here or were you talking about me??? I'd be flattered to think that someone would mention me after I've been gone so long.

I've not had much time at the computer. I've been pretty busy with the kids, especially since school is out now.

I've also gone way off track with the diet and exercise. I got so sick of doing all the work and not seeing results that I just gave it up. But now I am desperate. I am gaining SO much weight. I'm not diving right back into the heavy exercise. I'm going to fast for a while. It kind of helps me get over the hunger and the cravings and makes it easier to start with a "clean slate" so to speak. Then I will gradually add back more calories, and at the same time increase the activity starting with walking. I've been looking at the diets of people after bariatric surgery and that's what I'm basing my diet on. Liquid fasting for a couple of weeks, then adding small amounts of food and exercise, then raising both a little at a time. I figure if it's OK for people after they've had surgery, then it's OK for me. I'm just skipping the surgery part.

I'll try to pop in again later. Hope everyone is doing great!

(((((((((((((((((JEN!!!)))))))))))))))))) We have missed you!!!
How's your hubby doing? Is he still in the US of A?
I was worried about you some, I know how it is (having been a military wife for almost 22 yrs) to be the mom AND the dad and all that other stuff. Sometimes it just gets old and you need a break for some adult conversation.
Anyhow, thanks Patty for the good words!! You are so sweet!

Yesterday some drug rep brought in some Krispy Kreme doughnuts, which I frankly don't think are all that wonderful. We jsut can't get them in Cheyenne yet. Anywho I set the box behind us and was offered one and I said no thanks. That's ALL I said. And someone else said "geez, one doughnut isn't gonna kill you."
(they know I'm low carb now, but clearly that is all they know LOL)
And then someone else (who is overweight) said she could never do the atlkins diet because she loves bread and potatoes. I am not out to recruit the world for cheese sakes. I just care about how *I* look and about how *I* feel about myself.

Patty, to answer your Q: I am following the Induction Phase of the Atkins diet which means no more than 20 g of carbs for me a day. My friend in Indy has been on it since Jan 1 and has gone frm 214 to 172 so far. We've been friends since 1974 (9th grade LOL) and I can remember her trying WW in high school! she wasn't quite as heavy back then, but she still struggled with it.
I got some tips from her and checked Dr A;s book and cookbook out of the library, they also have a web site.

Gotta run! I am up early today. Working my caboose off this week and next. Tonight I have a going away party on Base, but it's a BBq so I can have hamburger patties and cheese. mmm mmm ;-)

SEMO, I read or heard somewhere that the term Hoosier (which means a person from Indiana to me) means something entirely different in MO LOL!!!
You all have a good day!! And I hope you all are as motivated by our little support group as I am.

Mornin'!

Lauri: For sure it is hard to be the military wife, and I'm sure it will get harder. I'm still new at this. My DH is now at Sheppard AFB in Texas for training. He will be home for 2 weeks in August, and then he will go to his first duty assignment, and hopefully we won't be too far behind. I'm kinda freaked out because what we do know is that the first duty assignment will be overseas, and I haven't been anywhere but Idaho for the past 24 years. I do know that Hawaii is included as an overseas destination, so keep your fingers crossed for me ;) . Actually, we'll be happy with anything as long as it isn't Korea, cuz we can't go with him there and we wouldn't see him for another year and I would REALLY have a hard time coping with that.

Anyhoo, I wasn't going to start my new program until Saturday, because my son's birthday is Friday and I didn't think I could stay out of the cake. But I decided enough is enough and I started today. Have been doing a lot of reading about VLCD (very low calorie diets) and about post bariatric surgery diets and feel that I can do this safely on my own. I have to give it a shot. Lord knows I've tried everything else. I'll let you know how it goes. Got to go. I'm taking the kids rollerblading today. Talk at ya later,
Jen

Hello Ladies

It's good to hear from you Jen... we were all wondering about you. Sorry to hear you been having a rough time of exercising & dieting. But like you said your back on track & whatever program your on we're here to support you. Your hubby is out my way. We'll I think he still a couple of hours away. Sheppard is in Abilene right?

Lauri - I think I might get the book and have a look at it. I am always craving carbs & I always seem to be tired. I know I probably don't eat enough protein in a day. To me all this diet stuff is so confusing. I had thought about drinking a protein drink like Met-rx or similar, then I read that that is probably to much protein for 1 meal... (I'm so confused:dizzy:

Hi Chicks!! Just a quick call. I am posting the following 'In Control' Tid Bit for myself too as well as you gals because I have been out of control today and I am feeling miserable for it too. I need to get a grip because my son graduates from university in July and I have to look good for the big day!! So I need motivated!!
I am also worried about him as he has Pityriasis Rubra Pilaris - a skin complaint. He has had it for about 7 years now. He has got offered a good job in London but he is just about to start PUVA treatment for his skin. If he goes to London he will not be able to get the treatment but then I also think the treatment can be dangerous too!! Anyway I need to get in control of my eating because I cannot control these other things!! Thanks for listening girls!! - it helps to talk.

Jen - great to hear from you again.

IN CONTROL

Though you have some control over things outside yourself, the most powerful and important control you have is over your own thoughts and actions. Indeed, it is through self-control that your greatest possibilities can be realized.
People will attempt to tell you that you have no choice, that when certain things happen you must react in a certain way. But you most certainly do have a choice. You do not have to be a victim of circumstance, no matter what that circumstance may be. You can choose the way you respond, and you can take control of your circumstances by being in control of yourself.

Imagine all the things you could accomplish if you had a servant who obeyed your every command. The fact is, you do have such a servant and it is you. So what are you commanding yourself to do? How are you controlling the powerful and valuable force that is your life?

When you attempt to control others, they will resist you. Yet when you focus on controlling your own thoughts and actions, the positive possibilities are unlimited. You have within your complete control someone who is capable of many great things -- you. Use that control wisely and it can take you wherever you desire to go.

Good Afternoon

It's so hard to get back on track. Last night I worked in the yard and didn't eat dinner, then about 9:30pm... I got hungary... so what did I do? Ate some ice cream (lowfat of course)... I get so mad at myself... I can never seem to get past the 5 lb loss mark...
Anway I"m OP today and barely drinking my water...

Mooz - Your right, there are so many things we can't control, but eating is one of them. Will say a prayer for you and your son. Can he not get the treatment in London? Are you still walking & linedancing?

Semo, Lauri, Spkrleyes37 & jen - Hope you all are having a great day...

Remember why

Whenever anything seems too difficult, tedious or uncomfortable, stop for a moment and remember. Stop for a moment and remember why you're doing it in the first place.
When there's a meaningful reason for what you're doing, then you can summon the motivation and the energy to get it done. Connect yourself with that reason, and allow it to push you forward. You have a very real stake in the outcome of your own efforts because you've chosen to make those efforts for a reason. Be sure to keep yourself connected to what that reason is.

Discipline, persistence, commitment and effectiveness cannot exist in a vacuum. They need a real and meaningful reason, a driving purpose, in order to thrive.

Whenever something starts to get you down, challenge yourself to remember why you're doing it. Remember why, and move ahead with a fresh, powerful, renewed sense of purpose. Remember why, and you'll have what it takes to get it done.

-- Ralph Marston

GOODDAY CHICKS!!

The weather is wet here today. I walked 3 miles lastnight and went linedancing for 2 hours.

Patty - my son probably could get the treatment in London but it takes so long to get him transferred over to a different skin dept. I am just as happy that he doesn't get the therapy as there are risks with it. We are trying to sort it out with alternative methods which will not be harmful to him.

To everyone else have a good OP day.

Good Morning Everyone! I can't believe it's Friday again already. Well as you may have guessed I did have to stay as a juror and then yesterday we were having some computer problems here at work. I did meet my goal on the exercise and I challenge everyone to a min of five hours of exercise by next Friday! Come on Patty! (maybe this will help)

Hubby did not get the promotion that he had applied for and he is taking it quite hard. Not so much that he didn't get it but the fact that he was lied to. To make a long story short, he had applied for this position before and they called him and said that there was a person already working for them that they could not overlook and asked him to apply for the job he now has. By taking the lesser position it would put him as a full time employee and there would be another opening in a few months (which was the one he just applied for) well it was between him and a temp employee that had re-hire status and you guessed it... he got dumped on. I am so dissapointed for him and do not understand how some people can sleep at night. Not only did he take a pay cut but it is also is a 40 mile drive to where he works. I'm truly hoping that something wonderful will come through for him. Okay, I just had to get this off my chest as I don't normally discuss my personal life here at work. You know, small town.

Mooz, sure hope everything turns out for the best with your son.

Jen, we missed ya kid-o.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and will talk to you later.

Semo - I will take you up on the challenge. Looking at my calendar for next week, I have no obsticles(sp) in my way. I do much better if I get up in the AM and exercise. My sister suggested that I record a 30 min tv program, then watch it on the dreadmill...
I'm so sorry to hear that your hubby didn't get the job. I too wonder how some people can sleep at night, much less look you in the eye. I will keep you all in my prayers...

Mooz - Glad to hear you got your walking in & linedancing. I too prefer to try something holstic before I put all kinds of drugs in me.

I'm glad it friday. I thought I had company(cousins) coming in town this weekend, but there plans changed. So this weekend i'm going to go grocery shopping & get some walking in. My vacation is coming up 2 weeks and I was hoping to lose 5 lbs. I bettter get on the ball...

Hope everyone has a great day...

Good Morning Girls:

I am up early and going to walk as soon as it gets daylight. I weighed in yesterday and lost 1 1/2 pds last week. Nothing exciting going on in my life except Grandaughter is graduating from High School. Happy Fathers Day to all your Husbands.

SEMO: Sorry to hear about your Husband not getting the job he wanted. It is very hard on them. I remember my husband going through that. Maybe something better is waiting in the future for him. The Lord works in many ways.

The weather in Calif. has been in the 80's that is why I walk in the early morning.

Mooz: Hang in there. When all is not right with our children it worrries a Mother to death. I will say a prayer for your son. I am a mother hen to three chicks and they keep me running even though they are grown and have famlies of there own. Norma

GOOD MORNING CHICKS!!

It was quiet in here yesterday!!

Just a short visit to leave you the following Tid Bit which I thought was good!!

I WILL

"I hope" is very positive, and yet "I will" is even more so. "I might" gets you facing in the right direction, while "I will" takes you all the way there. "I'd like to" helps you set your goals, and "I will" makes them happen. "I should" is good at nagging, yet "I will" is the master of achievement.
The words you use influence the thoughts you think and the actions you take. And the words "I will" are two of the best you'll find when it comes to expressing, sealing and maintaining you commitment. Though words alone will not make it happen, the most positive, confident words will indeed make a difference in what does happen. A constant attitude of "I will" will always outperform an attitude of "I wish."

"I will" is clear and unambiguous. It puts the power of solid intention to work for you. At any given moment, you're filled with energy that can make things happen, energy in search of a purpose. Saying "I will," with sincerity and confidence, directs that energy precisely where you want it to go.

I'm going on vacation in two weeks to New Mexico, so I had lots of things to get ready for, you know how it is... vacation = new cloths... I"m kenneling my dog, so we had to go visit the vet.

Semo - I'm up for your goal.. so let's get going...

The music is happy and the people are fun. I know what you mean new clothes. It ticks my DH off when I go shopping for a vacation. I always have the suitcase that weighs the most.

Semo. When I walked this morning I thought of your challange I was a BAD DIETER this weekend. With the Fathers Day party cake and snacks and a dinner that was the dieters worst emeny.
Wednesday my Grandaughter graduates and there is another dinner and big party. I have made a deal with myself to be good and staty OP. I am going to put a rubber band around my wrist and every time I reach for something I should not have I will snap my wrist. Maybe that will remind me or I will have no wrist left by the time the evening is over.

But I am going to take your challenge & maybe that will help me get back on my roll.

hello ladies!! It is Wednesday!! My brain is scrambled eggs, I'm telling you!! We started our new scheduling program on Monday. I really like it, and I find it fairly simple. I do have some computer knowledge which helps. (thankfully) It's just "different" from what we are used to.
I am getting all geared up for our vacation which starts Sunday. My girlfriend and her husband (with whom me and MY husband double dated in high school) will be joining us in Southern IN at the campground. We have always had fun with them. It's hard to find a couple where everybody likes everybody, ya know? But the four of us have been tight for 25 years.
I will bring you all a souvenir LOL! ;-)

Perception

Things which seem to frustrate you cannot frustrate you. Your frustration is your own doing. Those things which seem to annoy you cannot annoy you. Your annoyance is your own doing.
The world is as it is. The world you see and experience is as you choose to see and experience it. Every bit of everything is filtered through your own perception. And that perception is what you choose it to be.

That is the reason why one person can build a fortune and another person can become impoverished. They both live in the same world, yet each perceives it differently, leading to vastly different results.

If you wish to change the world, begin with your perception of it. See the world as how you would like for it to be, and that is how it will become. Perception is no fantasy at all, but rather your own special flavor of reality. Choose the world in which you want to live and make it so.

I'm still getting ready for vacation or as you say Holiday. I got a list going of what all I need to do, or buy. It seems i have been so busy I really haven't focused on my eating or exercise. Good Morning:
Mooz it is OK to call me Norma. I spell spkrleyes weird because someone else had the screen name Sparkleyes. How is thing going with you? Where do you get all the cute things such as the scale you have on today? I have lost 3 1/2 pds this week. Rubber Band is working you dont put anything in your mouth without thinking.

1 Day: Where are you going on Vacation? It sure is a lot of work to get started. No Candy in corners for me this week. It is WALK WALK and I joined a gym called Curves. I really enjoy it.

Well I better get off this computer and take my walk. It is 5:00 AM
and if I wait any longer I will not walk. Have a good day.

GOOD MORNING CHICKS!!
I walked 3 miles last night but I did not go linedancing as I was so tired. The above is the sort of weekend I dream of but it never happens does it??

Norma - CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR 3.5 POUNDS LOSS!! I think I will get a rubber band too!!
I get most of the images from www.123greetings.com
They are easy to put in the message - if you don't know how I will try and tell you as I did not have a clue a the start.

Patty - you will probably be back from your holiday before you get a chance to check in again but if you do have a great time and make wise choices!!

WATER
8 GLASSES A DAY KEEPS THE FAT AWAY

WATER - THE TRANSPARENT, COLORLESS LIQUID (H2O) WHICH FALLS FROM THE SKY AS RAIN, ISSUES FROM THE GROUND IN SPRINGS, AND COMPOSES 3/4 OF THE EARTH'S SURFACE IN THE FORM OF SEAS, RIVERS, LAKES, ETC.

Water is probably the single, most important, catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off. One of the things we take for granted, water plays a very IMPORTANT role in permanent weight loss. It aids in suppressing the appetite naturally, and metabolizing stored fat.

Studies show that a decrease in water intake causes fat deposits to increase, whereas as increase in water intake can actually reduce fat deposits. The kidneys do not function properly without enough water. It is important to note that the kidneys require water, and that other liquids do not replace water. Soda-pop, coffee, tea, juice, beer, etc., all have a different osmolality than the blood, so water from these drinks will be taken out of the blood when the blood reaches the kidneys. Dehydration occurs, and when this occurs, some of the kidney's load is passed on to the liver. The liver works to metabolize stored fat into usable energy for the body. If the liver has to aid the kidneys, it can't function efficiently. Consequently, the liver metabolizes less fat; thus, fat remains stored in the body and weight loss ceases.

Many people whose bodies retain water drink less water, hoping to eliminate the problem. The body sees this action as a threat to its survival, so it attempts to hold on to every drop. Water is then stored in spaces outside the body's cells. This causes swollen feet, hands, and legs. Diuretics offer only temporary relief. The best way to overcome excess water retention is to give the body what it needs - PLENTY OF WATER. Only then can stored water be released.

Overweight people need more water than thin people. Larger people have a large metabolic load. Water also helps to maintain proper muscle tone by giving muscles their natural ability to contract. It helps prevent sagging skin that often follows weight loss. Shrinking cells are plumped up by water. The complexion then appears clear, healthy and resilient.

Water also flushes waste from the body, and thus eliminates constipation. The endocrine gland's function improves, thus the entire system functions more efficiently.

Water not only accomplishes all of the above, it also works with the fiber to create a satisfied feeling and helps subdue hunger pains. At least 8 to 10 eight ounce glasses of water per day is recommended.

Good afternoon chicks - just a very quick visit - have a good weekend all and Patty you enjoy your holiday - you deserve it.

Blessings in the making
What would be the point of living if there were no challenges to overcome? What would give you joy if there was nothing that could bring you sadness? How could you feel warm if there was no such thing as cold? How could you know pleasure if there wasn't any pain?
Before you curse the darkness, consider that it provides the light with a place to shine. Before you curse the problems, keep in mind that they're what give value to the accomplishments.

Life's greatest treasures are those to which you give the most commitment. Challenges and difficult efforts are blessings in the making. The more you put into life, the more richly you will live it.

The dark days are filled with incredible opportunity. See that opportunity, know it and live it, and the bright days will be joyous indeed.

Hi gals, just a quick stop to let you know that I probably won't be stopping in much for a while. We are having problems with the internet and until further notice they have asked us not to use it for personal use (as if anyone would actutally do such a thing on company time). So don't send a search party out for me. Hope everyone has a great forth. Bye for now.

GOOD MORNING CHICKS!! - this thread has gone very quiet!!

I walked 6 miles yesterday and my eating was OP. I drank 1.5 litres of water but I should really have had 2!!

.

WELCOME KIMBERLY - in answer to your question I walk every day at least 2 miles and have done 9 miles but only on 1 day. I don't run - Lauri is the runner on this thread - what about you?

I thought this thread was fading out until you posted. I also post on another thread on the Buddy section called 'Movin and Losin' and you would be most welcome to post there as we are always looking for new input. The more support we have the better we do!!

If any of you gals want to move to the .Movin and Losin' thread feel free. We are both doing basicaly the same thing.

Gotta go now

Take care all
