Day 3 of 'something' for me and so far so good. The first two days I actually ate completely on phase 1. I was considering delving a bit into phase 2 today by making mashed sweet potates with brown sugar twin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and smart balance. Then again, maybe not. I had had chicken divan last night, but realized I didn't have hardly any chicken left (thought I did) and BF invited his brother to eat with us. So I used about 2 bags of broccoli and it was mainly a broccoli casserole thing, still absolutely delicious. Not sure what the boys thought with mainly broccoli and the divan sauce and a bite of chicken here and there.

Don't know if I'm making beef steaks or pork chops tonight, but I need to get to the store. I need to get a couple of things. Hmm, I have a head of cauliflower in the fridge that I just bought, so I'll make garlicky cheesy mashed cauliflower as a side dish, or roasted cauliflower. That would be nice. I'm gonna try to make some sort of 'steak sauce' boiling down v8 juice with spices and herbs and sugar twin and not tell BF because he'll be disgusted and won't eat it.

Weekends are so hard!!
I went OP yesterday for dinner. I tried to stay OP as much as possible. My inlaws dropped in for dinner. We were supposed to go out for dinner, which I had a large salad with chicken in my mind. Because of the nasty, rainy weather, we ended up staying in and ordering out. They picked up fried chicken and pizza!! YIKES!! I tried to load up on veggies and dip before dinner so I could eat as little as possible. I ended up with a chicken breast, as little skin as possible and the cheese off my DS's 1 piece of pizza...
SO GLAD I had made that crustless Lemon pie for myself, so took that out with some cookies for anyone that wanted the sugar. The Lemon pie didn't go over well with anyone but me... oh well!! I feel horrible about what I ate, but I tried to do the best I could, this is life I guess. I started fresh this morning, need to get back to that strong in-control feeling. I don't have any cravings right now, but I feel weak!! New week!

First I wanted to share my good news as today is Day 7 for me and also a Weigh day......... Drum roll.......... I am down 7.5 lbs in a week. :carrot:

Yippie.... :) :)

I had a rougher day yesterday as My BF and I were driving to OH to get my new puppy.... It was about a 9 hour round trip just for the driving but we were at the breeders for about an hour. We were gone all day but I packed plenty of healthy snacks and foods during the day. :D

They new puppy is adorable! I have decided to call him Rocky. So now I have Coco and Rocky. Awwwww...... Coco is having some issues with the new pup, it is funny actually because she is normally so submissive. I have a 2.6 lb chihuahua try to bit a 2.13 lb puppy.... LOL The puppy has already started to get her back. :P They are currently curled up together on my lap so I think it will all work out great!

Melanie- :) Glad to here phase 1.5 is working for you. I will have to look up this divine chicken recipe sounds yummy! I just made a spinach quiche recipe that I found in the recipe section and it was awesome!!! My BF loved it too... We had it with roasted chicken. :dizzy:

Jenskihere-Keep that positve attitude! Just keep working and you will make it. :)

How is everyone else doing today?

Well- I have to go and plan my menu's for the week and get my sister to take me shopping as I wont get my car back until Monday.... It was soooo expensive to fix.... I had to borrow money which sucks- at least I will be able to drive, right?
Talk to you chickies later......

I had a Ph. 1.5 day yesterday- ate what I would have eaten prior to me starting the P1 stint. So I'm debating about whether or not I'll stick to a complete 14 day P1. Doing a 10 day P1 has definately stopped the cravings, and I weighed myself at 201 lbs, so I'm pretty happy with 7 lbs lost... I need to focus on exercise and toning, but it's hard to get in the groove!

Today, on plan breakfast, we'll see what happens for the rest of the day.

Jenkishere, I actually think you did a really good job combatting the pizza and chicken! (Wow they must be some big eaters, I've never had pizza AND fried chicken at one meal.) You've got great willpower.

Akacutie, congrats on the new pup. He sounds adorable!! Oh and I love that spinach quiche recipe too. The Chicken Divan recipe is in the sticky section under phase 1 entree recipes and it involves cheddar, broccoli, and a sourcream sauce made with curry... it's so delicious.

Usarchie, sounds like you've been doing really good. IMO making it to 10 days of ph 1 is a real accomplishment. :D

Hey you guys, after two days of doing 'something' I'm already done one of those regained lbs so I'm quite happy about that. I weighed in earlier after a pee and I was like yeeeuhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! So happy.

Hello from very rainy IL. It has been raining here for 2 days now and many streets are closed because of water. Rain, Rain, go away! Except it will be a good afternoon to finish my book and take a nap.

My oldest daughter, son-in-law, and 2 yr. old grandson were here this weekend. They just left after meeting our other daughter & boyfriend for her birthday brunch. :celebrate: She changed her mind and wanted to go to brunch instead of Stir Crazy. So it was very easy for me to make choices. It was at the Cheesecake Factory and I totally resisted a dessert-to-go! I love their Chocolate Tuxedo cheesecake, but none for me! Now. . .that is willpower!:carrot:

Tomorrow is my 14th day in Phase 1 and I am down 10 lbs. Yippee! I am loving the success. I might extend Phase 1 just a little longer, but might add a fruit in the morning. So maybe that is really Phase 2 or at least 1.5!

zeffryn
09-14-2008, 04:06 PM
junebug - unless you're still having crazy cravings, you really shouldn't extend P1 any longer than two weeks. Phase 2 is a really healthy way to eat.
Most of us start on P2 very slowly, which is why we say P1.5.

Also, you may want to start with some form of berries....and in the evening is usually the safest time to have them...although it might vary for you. Also, try having them with some form of protein - yogurt, cheese, etc.

Junebug, sounds like you did an excellent job. And 10 lbs in 2 weeks, wow! I'm jealous.

I keep hearing the "Cheesecake factory" being mentioned but we don't have anywhere in my area. I don't know about in NC, but not in my area. It sounds sinful.. I heard there's a SF cheesecake? I wanna go.

Hi all! I'm new here. I've been yo-yo-ing with phase one for at least a month. I do really well for a few days at a time, then eat terribly for a few days, and then start over. Needless to say, I haven't lost much weight...

So, this week's goals: stick to phase one (seriously!), 3 days cardio, 2 days weights.

I can tell this week is going to be super stressful, but I have a wedding to go to on Saturday so maybe that will keep me in line.

This is around 4am of day 6 for me. (I'm working night shift.) I'm so proud of myself. I've almost made it through my weekend night shifts while staying OP!!!!! I was really concerned about this. I normally eat and eat and eat through these shifts. (Not many healthy things either.) This time I brought a ton of SBD friendly snacks and veggies. I have to admit, I was somewhat tempted when my co-worker brought a home made carrot cake, but I didn't cave. I stayed strong!!!!!!!!!

Good Morning! Well it is the last day of Phase 1 for me. Tomorrow I will begin a slow transition into Phase 2. I am eating so much better, and feeling so much better. Today I put on a pair of pants that I haven't been able to wear for some time.

RNmom: Way to go on passing up the carrot cake. That is one of my favorites with cream cheese frosting!

Thanks everyone for your support!

Have a Marvelous Monday!

Hi everyone!
I started phase one Saturday and then lost my way that night, so here is another shot at day one, I hate that I failed but I am only looking to succeed this time, I have done it before and it is such a smart way to eat I just have to get into the swing of it again, I had the hubby buy me the shopping guide again as I had lost mine and a biggest loser dvd so I am ready!

Junebug- Way to go on your 10.4 pound loss!! You go girl!!!

Day 13, and I had a P1.25 day Saturday and Sunday. I hurt my leg, and therefore let my husband make me dinner. We ate hamburgers, and they were delicious. But otherwise, no cravings, mostly on plan, and 7 lbs down from my starting weight this month. :) I may actually make my goal!

TOM is coming, and I'm afraid that'll mess with my system, but in a week, that'll be over, so things will get back to normal.

My husband is getting excited about going to the gym, and has been going like a maniac... I need to get more excited about my exercise. Should I purchase the Wii Fit? Does it require you to do a lot of jumping around?

Funny you mention that about your DH. Since I have been doing SB and having great success at it, it inspired DH to go back to the gym! When he sets his mind to hit, working out and cutting back on portions works awesome for him. He lost 30 lbs last year! Love that we are both working towards getting healthy. I have sort of put my kids into this more too. I have been making so many new types of veggies and I make them at least try them. My DS likes cooked zuch now! I can't beleive it! That makes me so happy!

Also, I was on phase 1 during my TOM and I didn't feel as out of control and I usually do. My cravings used to be so bad that week, and I always seemed so hungry! Not this time!! Congrats on your weight loss.

Great job Happy. :)

Speaking of happy, I've lost 4 lbs since doing 4 days of 'something' as I've been calling it. And the 4 days of something have been 4 straight days of phase 1 so maybe I'll make it this time, if not I'll head into phase 1.5. I feel better not feeling so confined in it and have ate cleanly 4 days in a row. The scale has showed this and I couldn't be happier!

Off to change my ticker. :D

I love reading the progress everyone is making! I lost 4.5 lbs for this week for a total of 9.5 for Phase 1. Tomorrow I move on to Phase 1.5 and hope for the best.

The power is out in most of Cincinnati (but thankfully not on my street) due to Hurricane Ivan blowing through yesterday so no gym for me today. There is almost no gas to be had so I can't get to work tomorrow either. No problem there!

What exactly IS SB Flu?

cottagebythesea
09-16-2008, 05:22 AM
Brenda, what we fondly call the "SB flu", is typically a tired, headachy, run-down feeling that some of our Beachers experience around the 3rd or 4th day of Phase 1. If you eat plenty of beans and include your dairy each day, you can most likely avoid it. The flu-like symptoms only last a day or so, and afterwards you'll have renewed energy and feel great!

Congratulations on your loss! Don't be discouraged if your weight stalls for a few days, it will come off eventually, especially the inches.

--2 slices turkey bacon
--1 glass fat-free milk

I will have some veggie juice a little later.

zeffryn
09-16-2008, 09:17 AM
sounds good to me....although you may want to sneak some veggies in, but if you have them at your other meals and snacks it shouldn't be a problem. Just remember to aim for 4.5 cups a day (which is a LOT!).

It's amazing how long a bag of english muffins lasts when you're on P2. My DH eventually had to start eating them or they would have gone bad.

Junebug that is fine, though I wouldn't add another grain today to see how you do.

Slow and steady that is what works.

I am on phase 1.5 lost all the weight I had gained (5 lbs) and now my ticker is not lying lol. So I am hoping to lose a couple of more lbs by the end of the month, my clothes are back to being loose on me again which is great.

zeffryn
09-16-2008, 10:12 AM
Brenda- don't let this get in the way of being motivated. There will never be a time when you lose x amount of weight every single day. You'll stall for awhile and then one day, you'll lose a bunch. Weight loss is never a linear being.

Don't weigh on the scale so often, focus on how your clothes are fitting and keep the scale to once or twice a week. Too much weighing can make it difficult to stay motivated if you don't lose every time you hop on.

Good morning, day 14, and I threw P1 out the window last night by having a beer. But... that was my only transgression, and I don't particularly care too much. So after the dentist this morning, I decided to stop at Starbucks for a SF nonfat latte.... Pumpkin Spice is back! Too bad this particular Starbucks didn't have the SF syrup! :-( No pumpkin spice for me! I had to settle on a SF vanilla instead. I sipped it the entire way home, picked up DD from preschool and headed to the forest preserve for our weekly walk. Typically we walk 30 minutes, turn around and head back for the car for a nice 60 minute walk. Today, thanks to the latte, I had so much energy we kept going! In the end, we completed a 80 mintue walk!! :-) Three cheers to the SF latte!!

I thought I was OP yesterday. I had a slight gain this morning. Not worried about it, I'm sure today's walk will put me back where I was. First day in 14 that I showed a slight gain! I know weighing everyday is bad, but I always have done this... keeps me on track! Increases make me work harder. Decreases show me that my hard work is paying off!!

Is pumpkin allowed on Phase 2?? I keep finding awesome SB recipes for pumpkin, but I don't know if I am ready to add those in!

I had my very first comment on my weight loss today. Someone I haven't seen in a while asked if I had lost weight! Love those comments!!

I weigh myself everyday too, I admit. I don't get discouraged (too much, anyway) if I see a jump in my weight after a day of lower weight 'cause I take certain factors into account (bloating, retained water).

Then again the other day I went up like 5 lbs the day I started ph 1 (or 1.5 again) and I freaked out!!!! But, it went down the next day. So I do have my moments!!

I would love to have some pumpkin too.

Day 9 here and doing ok... I need to go grocery shopping so I am a bit strapped.... I only got about 2 cups of veggies in because of it..... Hmmmmm I need to cut back some where to get some good veggies!

Today at work they cancelled out lunch which they love to do, but ordered us many pizza hut pizza as a reward. My boss even delievered the pizza to everyone! It was soooo hard, but I didn't eat a single piece but had to say no twice and read all about how good it was all afternoon. There was still left overs when I left for the day. I am so proud. I love freebies! :D

It just made me that much happier that I didn't join in.... If I had known about it earlier I would have asked if they could have gotten me a salad.... There is always next time! Has anyone seen these new salad dressings from Wishbone, called Bountifuls? It is basically a jar of chopped veggies (green, red, yellow peopers, onion, tomatoes) in a light tomato juice. I picked Sante Fe one, has a hint of lime cilantro. It has a little kick. The only bad part is it has a little corn in it. Other than that, it has 20 calories for 2TBS, 0 fat,3 sugars, 4 carbs. Sound good for phase 2? I bought it and tried it, it is pretty good. There are a few other flavors too, not all low in sugar.

here is a link to the site:
http://www.wish-bone.com/Dressings/2061/Simply-Santa-Fe.aspx
There is a coupon for $1 off too.

Doesn't this one sound good too?
Wish-Bone® Bountifuls™ Tuscan Romano Basil Dressing

A delectable Mediterranean vinaigrette brimming with chunks of tomatoes, aged Romano cheese and basil.
25 cal/.5 fat/4 carb/3g sugar
This should be OK for phase 1. There is recipes there too for using the dressings.

6 days of a clean phase 1 for me.. Looks like it's turning out to be phase 1 afterall, but I don't want to speak too soon. We already spent up most of our monthly grocery budget (it's ridiculous) and stocked the freezer with some meats, but not a TON of stuff. I did a lot better last month, grocery wise. Anyway I fear when we run out of more substantial & healthy food, we may have to do the whole cheap-and-not-very-nutritious thing. Hopefully I'll make it work.

I get to change my ticker so, it's all good.

Tomorrow's the big test. My best friend is staying the night so we can have some best friend time together after a long while of infrequent visits. (This is because my boyfriend has a problem with her and there's always tension and somehow her presence always causes him to start fights and she's stayed away out of respect for him but we really miss eachother. She wants to sit down and talk with him and hopefully resolve things so it's gonna be a stressful day) and anyway we plan on making dinner for him, yes to butter him up... so I'm making one of those beef roast things but he likes it with potatoes and carrots. I'm gonna use beef boilloun and maybe some RF sour cream to make 'gravy' and try to make a side dish of broccoli with cheese or something so I don't go for the potatoes and carrots, though sigh, it would be delicious. I'm gonna have to chew on an extra large portion of beef and the side dish to stay away from those potatoes. I'm gonna make SF orange jello for dessert and get some SF coolwhip. That's not particularly spectacular but hey, it keeps me from going for cheesecake.

Oooh.. I could make ME some cauliflower and substitute that for the potatoes and use the gravy on THAT... as well as have broccoli... why didn't I think of that before? Cauliflower is like my new favorite vegetable.

Wish me luck!

Day 8 for me. I decided to weigh in yesterday since I was half way through P1 and would you know, my scale showed that I lost 5 lbs in 1 week! I was loving this diet!!! However, today I weighed myself, and it said 123.5(yesterday was 122). Either way it is a loss from the 127 I was last week.

I was out of town yesterday helping my family whose homes were flooded in the past hurricane and ate some chinese food. That was all they had open besides fast food, which the fast food places had no salads. They told me that they were unable to steam veggies, but could stir fry them in as little sauce as possible.( For some reason they insisted that they HAD to use sauce. ) I did request no msg, but I have no idea really exactly what was in the sauce. I'm sure it was mostly just soy sauce. I just hope I didn't mess up my P1. I miss my fruit too much to have to start over! Come to think of it ,the sodium in the chinese food probably contributed to my 1.5 lb weight gain.

Most chinese sauces have some sugar in it, BUT I'm sure the damage was minimal and your gain is most likely only water retention from the sodium in the soy sauce.

Argh, as soon as I typed that, I read the rest of your post and saw you had already figured it out! Sorry. :p Anyway, you're doing great. :D

Hello Guys-

Day 11 for me...... :) If only I had extra cash to get some more veggies..... :) I have run into a tight spell due to a large cable bill and my big car repair bill. Anyway, I am expecting a school refund check by the end of the week. I really need it in fact. Ahhhhh......:( I will not stress about it though....

Oh, yesterday at work they passed out candy bars to everyone..... It had 22g of sugar in that little bar! I gave it away a quickly as possible. It is life insurance awareness month so they have been giving little trickets reminding us that we need life insurance and we might want to buy it from our company cause they only pay for 2 our salary and we need more.... anyway.... I hope nothing tempts me at work today..... :p

I hope you ladies have a great OP day today!

Good Morning!

I jumped on the scale this morning and am down another 1.2lbs. Even with the newly added 1 grain and 1 fruit to my menu in Phase 2. I have also returned to the gym to start toning up all my jiggly parts. I have always hated my arms and I am vowing to finally do something about them!

Just finishing up my Egg Beater omelette and then off to school.

Have a Terrific Thursday!

No choice on the grapes- DH bought them, and then left for NY without eating them! I can't let them rot in the fridge.

I ate TERRIBLY on tuesday- I was very tired and hungry, so I made premade pasta with chicken and alfredo sauce. It probably wasn't all that bad, since the pasta had mushrooms in it, but I blame TOM and having no husband around.... I might just blame the DH anyways, since he's the one who bought them and I usually keep stuff like that out of the house.

Yesterday was a long business trip to Utah, but I ate well, no digressions from the plan. Today will be challenging, but i've got my plan, and I'll stick to it!

I made a no-carb pumpkin cheesecake that I've been eating for breakfast, and it's pretty good. Dunno how great it is for me, but a nice change from eggs. I'll go back to the eggs and veggies shortly.

Good job on the loss Junebug and Akacutie, great job resisting those evil candy bars. :D

Hopped on the scale first thing this morning and was very pleasantly surprised to see that I went down another two lbs... bringing me to 190. So after my big screwups in which I went back up to 195, I now weigh less than I did before I gained a few lbs back during my recent "binge phase".

Happy, happy, joy, joy. :D

Yesterday, our office went out to celebrate several birthdays. Our party of 12 headed to Chili's. I was very worried :?: about choices and was going to resign my self to having to go off my plan :( BUT, I found that they had a small (only four choices) section called the Guiltless Grill :carrot: . I had grilled Salmon, Broccoli, and black beans, and unsweetened tea AND walked away full and satisfied. It was my first restaurant since starting SB. I feel very proud while everyone else was having mega-cheeseburgers with bacon, I was being such a good girl! :D Yeah Me!!!

I Am Not Losing On Phase 2!! I am not going going to panic until I have been on phase 2 for an entire week....
All I did was add a piece of fruit at night after dinner. (Which I was doing my last few days on phase 1 and still losing. I am having a nectarine.) Then Monday I added 2 - 3T of cooked steal cut oatmeal. I made a big batch on Monday morning, so I have been taking a few tablespoons of that in the morning with my eggs, veggies, etc.
Nothing else has changed. I didn't add anything else to my diet. My exercise is the same, my water intake is the same. I don't get it!

On a positive note, I put on a shirt today that I haven't worn in a while. I started working out in March and I lost several inches (10+) just from that alone. Now add to it my 8lb weight loss from SB. I was swimming in the shirt!!

Just wanted to vent. I won't panic. It is my fault because I weigh myself everyday... just so disappointing!!

Jenny - that can be so frustrating....especially since our bodies react differently. It can be a guessing game. It sounds like you're doing everything right though, so I wouldn't panic even if you don't lose your first week or two on P2. As frustrating as it may be, we need to remember that weight loss isn't ever a linear or rational thing and while it may seem like we're doing everything right....our scale doesn't show it. You lost consistently on P1 because your body was expelling excess water from your muscles - sounds bad, but for a short time isn't. P2 is a much slower weight loss. It is fun to weigh daily on P1 because it seems like every day the scale jumps down another pound or two...it is very motivating! I stopped weighing everyday on P2 because it was frustrating. I found that weighing just once a week was much better on my psyche. After awhile, I found that even if I did do everything right - there would be weeks that I didn't lose a pound. I learned to just chalk that up to the planets being misaligned for me and something wasn't responding to what I was doing ;) It didn't take long though before the plateau would be over and the scale would do another little jump downwards.

Always remember that plateaus are completely normal. Being on one for a week is nothing. Some of the girls here have been on month long plateaus. As frustrating as that can be, just keep in mind that regardless of the weightloss you are eating healthy and those pounds will move.

Also, as you start to lose more weight your body will need fewer calories to maintain that weight. If you start getting into month long plateaus, I would start to take a look at portion sizes and calorie counts because the old adage of "the number of calories coming out needs to be more than the number of calories going in" still applies on SBD. Upping or changing your exercise can also provide that little boost that your body needs to help jumpstart it again.

I've stopped losing on phase 1. I'm not sure what's causing it, but I'm STILL stalled since day 6. I'm on day 11 and haven't seen a loss yet this week.

I've decided to cut out most dairy for a couple days to see if it can jump start again.

I went to the grocery store today and found a few things that were SB friendly. Maple groves farm now has a whole line of Sugar Free salad dressings. I looked on the ingredients and found no sugar. I bought a few flavors to try.. maybe even to marinate chicken breasts in to give it flavor. One was Raspberry Vin and it too was less than 1 gram of carbs with no sugar (splenda instead), but it had raspberry concentrate? Must only be a drop or two to not add carbs. LOL I'll save that for phase 2.

Does anyone know if No Sugar Added ice cream is OK? I saw it.. didn't buy it.. but looked on the ingredients and it had no sugar (only splenda)

Cutting out dairy is probably not the way to jump start the weight loss again...especially on P1...the lack of carbs + lack of dairy could pose a problem. You're going to have more luck with fewer calories and/or more exercise.

You may want to reevaluate your calorie intake. If you're not doing so already, log everything into Fitday or another calorie counting program and see what your totals are for the day. Eat your veggies first and then your protein, it will fill you up and you'll be making sure you get all 4.5 cups of veggies in each day. If you're not exercising, throwing a half hour walk in can do wonders...even a couple 15 minute walks a day if you're short on time. My son really loves to go out and collect leaves now that they are changing. We walk, collect leaves and talk about trees and the seasons. It is fun for him and gets my walk in.

Raspberry vin is not ok for P1 as fruits are cut out until P2. About the carbs in the dressing? It doesn't matter. I think it is cottage (if not, sorry!) that likes to say that 1,000,000 carbs a day are fine as long as they are the right carbs.

Also, weighing everyday - while in theory seems great, in practice causes a ton of frustration. Try only weighing once or twice a week.

As far as the ice cream, I'm not sure what the calorie counts are. There is a 75-100 calorie "sweet treat" limit each day. If a serving size has less than that and you stick to the serving size (usually 1/4-1/2 cup), it should be fine.

As far as cutting calories... yesterday I had only 750 calories for the whole day. And I have been walking up and around our hills this week.

zeffryn
09-18-2008, 04:53 PM
That might be the reason why you aren't losing. 750 calories is not enough to sustain a metabolism. You should shoot for 1200 at the very least.

Could you post a menu? Maybe there are other things that could be tweaked to get over this plateau.

I hear you, though. Plateaus suck.

RE: the ice cream. It looks fine, just stick to 1/2 cup.....and that warning about eating too much causing a laxative effect? They aren't joking... ;)

Fat Melanie
09-18-2008, 05:06 PM
Ahhh 750 calories!!! Woman you need to eat more. Your metabolism is going into starvation mode, most likely, causing you to hold onto weight. Then you're burning off even more.

Keep the exercise- up the calories.

Ilovepoptarts, you're doing really good. And I love the name. Mmm, poptarts.

Jenkishere, I wish I could offer some advice re: phase 2 but I've never done it properly so far. I think at the end of the week you'll see a scale loss. If you're exercising you may be gaining muscle weight. (Good thing!)

Oh I know about that laxative effect. It actually just makes me gassy if I eat too much.. but no one needs to be around that! LOLOL

I'll try to increase my calories and will post a menu for tomorrow. (when I'm able to actually eat without a kid hanging on my leg) LOL

typicall tho.. I eat eggs for breakfast. Just fried in a little PAM. Salad with cheese, nuts, low carb dressing, tomatoes, cukes, green pepper, egg. I may have a spoonful of PB for a snack.. or a SF jello. Dinner I eat only the meat/protein and veggies.. and for a late night snack I like more jello or pudding of some sort.

I drink ALOT of crystal light and SF Kool aid. And my salads are HUGE.. like 3+ cups. Oh and I have 2-3 cups coffee per day with skim milk and splenda.

(and I pee alllllll freakin' night). LOL

So, it's possible to eat without a kid on your leg! Thank God......I see a light at the end of this tunnel ;)

Try adding some veggies and more protein to your breakfast....if you like southwestern style things adding some black beans, peppers and onions and salsa to your eggs is awesome. Sprinkle a little cheese on top as well.

Try a snack in the morning if you have time (I feel your pain, girl) - protein will add calories. Hard boiled eggs have around 100 calories.

Chop up some chicken on that salad and add another 100 calories or so.

another snack in the afternoon - nuts are good but remember the limits.

Dinner sounds fine, just make sure you're getting enough veggies.

dessert sounds fine as well. SF jello saved my life most nights. SF pudding isn't allowed on P1, though.

Also, more water! Crystal light and kool-aid are fine, in moderation, but your body needs true hydration from water. Try to get at least 64 oz. a day.

I pee all night as well....but I think that might be for a different reason ;)

RE: the laxative ice cream - I thought it just made me gassy as well...until I had one fabulous night with it....DH nicknamed it poo cream. Gross.

Opps on the pudding. I've only had it once. Any idea why it's not allowed? I use the SF FF version and it's made with skim milk. And I don't eat chocolate pudding (hate it!).. usually vanilla or pistacio. ?

I've been lurking here reading every day, and it's been great to read everyone's posts! I'm on day 11 of Phase 1 and so far I've lost 8.8 pounds, which I'm happy with, and I haven't cheated intentionally at all, which I'm even happier about! My unintentional cheating happened when I was out to lunch and accidentally picked a fat-free salad dressing that had corn syrup in it. Sneaky corn syrup!

Anyway, I was wondering if you guys had any advice - I'm meeting some friends for dinner tomorrow night at PF Chang's and I was wondering if anyone had any advice about what to order that would be safe for Phase 1. I was thinking of getting something like Beef with Broccoli without the rice, but I'm not sure what the sauce is like.

I also saw on their website that you can order things "stock velveted" which means the food will be cooked in vegetable stock instead of oil, which the menu said could reduce carbs. So I was considering doing that, but I wasn't sure if that would be enough of a good choice. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks!

Jessers....

You could ask for sauce on the side or no sauce? Maybe just steamed veggies and meat?

I have gotten chicken with broccoli and asked for sauce on side and the resturant I went to had no problem accomodating me... I didn't eat the sauce actually.;)

Enjoy getting together with friends!

Brenda - not sure why sf/ff pudding isn't allowed on P1. I'll let one of the more senior members answer that one. I was never a huge fan, so I never really let it come up. Edit: Barb answered below this post. Thanks, Barb!

Your dinner sounds good, though. Keep it up ;)

Jessers - you could get the sauce on the side and avoid it, or see if the waiter knows what is in it. Chances are it has corn starch in it :( You could also see if they offer a gluten free option - that may be made without corn starch. Avoid the rice, although they do offer brown rice for P2. Chances are this is too late, so I hope you had a wonderful meal :)

Day 9 for me. It's going really well so far. The only problem is the dairy. I'm not a milk drinker, so it's kind of difficult to get the recommended amount in. I eat yogurt sometimes, but not every day. I do take calcium suppliments, though. Does cheese "count" as dairy? I don't know. RNmomof5 - cheese does not count as a dairy, but as a protein. Milk/dairy includes only milk (and lowfat buttermilk) and yogurt. A favorite around here is greek yogurt. 2 cups is a lot per day. Have you tried flavoring your milk? It's actually really good and sometimes people can get past the milk taste. I've flavored mine with crystal light or other drink mixes, also sf jello. Strawberry milk has been a favorite since childhood.

I also am a daily weigher! I was so proud of myself during the first week of P1. I picked my scale up, out of sight. I can't believe I made it a whole week! I haven't been able to bring myself to pick it up again though.

Janda, what I do for my veggies is this: with my eggs for breakfast, 1/2 cup of frozen veggies- like broccoli or edamame or peas. With lunch, I make sure I either have a salad or some cut up veggies to eat- the grocery store often bags small cut up veggies that you can steam in the bag. Then, with a snack, something with cut up veggies- cucumber and hummus, or maybe a bell pepper that's cut up. Then dinner is meat and two veg, usually. :)

So my saga on Phase 2 continues. Yesterday I posted a frustrated message about not losing since starting phase 2. Yesterday I decided to cut out the oatmeal at breakfast. I did a phase 1 breakfast of eggs and veggies. I did phase 1 snacks and a phase 1 lunch. For dinner I made a veggies packed tomato sauce over spag squash. I made the family WW pasta, so I mixed a little of the WW pasta into my spag squash. After dinner we had strawberries and lite cool whip. I still had my piece of fruit before bed. I started to lose again. Is the oatmeal the problem? Or is the carbs too early in the morning to blame? I skipped the oatmeal again today. I was thinking of having the leftover pasta/spag squash combo for lunch again today.... what to do??

By the way, I am less than 1 pound from my 1st mini goal!!! :carrot:

I made a roast beef thing (it was dry but whatever) with beef boillioun broth, onions, and potatoes. I boiled a head of cauliflower for myself and avoided the potatoes.

I decided to eat it like a soup, because the broth was delicious and the cauliflower was so good.. I had NO problem avoiding those potatoes thanks to the cauliflower.

Mel- how did you make the roast? What type of pan did you use? How long did you cook it for? I either use a crockpot (in the summer) or a pampered chef covered baker (made out of glazed clay). I used this oval shaped thing that has a lid and I put a ton of broth in there. I'm not sure what sort of thing it is called but BF said it was for roast.

I'm not sure how long I cooked it, over an hour or so for sure. See, I was checking it for doneness and it started bleeding and BF said he refused to eat it like that, so I put it back in the oven and then when I did take it out, it was tough and hard to eat. The last time I cooked it (only one out of two times) it was tender. Shoulda used a crockpot.

Still tasty though, but our teeth got a workout. BF didn't seem to mind.

BF didn't seem to mind.

roasts generally need to be roasted for much longer than an hour. It might be "done", but the longer roasting breaks down all the tissues and makes them super tender. I usually let mine roast away for 3 or so hours, longer if it is a tougher cut of meat, but I generally use a chuck roast.

Monique - I'm not familiar with the diet. Most every one of the girls here are doing South Beach (with or without their own additions)...I'm not trying to kick you out, but your questions might not be fielded very well in this sub-forum. You may want to check out the General Diet Plans section. You are more than welcome to post with us, though.

Also, losing 85 lbs. in 11 months is the most healthy way to do it. 2 lbs. a week is pretty much the cap to a healthy and sustainable weight loss...not to mention it will give your body time to recover. You don't want to lose all that weight and then have tons of baggy skin!

You could cut the calories in your breakfast by cutting down to 1% or skim milk. Adding just a few almonds (chopping them makes it seem like more) and using berries instead of bananas, as they have fewer calories.

Good luck!

OK help me out girls.. only 210 calories today and it's already 3pm. Work, kids, and teacher appointments today are KILLING me.

lunch was a SB frozen meal and extra broccoli.

I skipped breakfast due to waking up late and having the girls teacher knocking on the door for our appt that I THOUGHT was this afternoon. Opps.

Should I go sneak in breakfast now? I could go for a mock waffle.

go for it Brenda...eat that waffle if you want too ;)

zeffryn

Have that waffle, Brenda. You need the calories.

You have 3 year olds right? Eat when they eat. My 2 year old has his breakfast with us, a snack before he goes down for his nap, lunch after he wakes up, another snack in the afternoon and then dinner....and sometimes a snack before bed if we're staying up late for movie night or whatever.

Kids have it down when it comes to calorie intake and how many times a day they need to be eating.

Planning really saves me. When DH is home, he watches DS and I do things for our weekly meals - whether it be cleaning and chopping veggies and fruits, grilling chicken breasts for salads, making salads, etc. 10-15 minutes in the evening really saves my butt the next day because I have a tendency to get busy and not worry about feeding myself if I don't have it already done. Plus, it saves a ton in money because I make DH's lunch at the same time and he isn't going out for lunch every day.

--

Also, which SB frozen meal did you have? I thought most of them had 250-300 calories, especially the P1 appropriate ones.

Brenda, I understand sometimes it's hard to be eating all that you need to be eating, and how one can tend to skip some snacks/meals... I tend to do it when dealing with DS, but then try to head to the fridge as quick as possible.

Although right now I feel really nauseous, like I'm about to throw up and I don't think I can eat anything right now.. what gives?? I hardly ever get sick. I remember the first time I did phase 1 I came down with an intestinal virus somehow and that's the first time I've been sick in like forever! All of a sudden this nausea hit me, and it's crazy. I'm usually virtually illness free! Argh. Headache and all.

Oh, I was heading somewhere with my line to you, Brenda, but went off topic because I feel gross right now: It is really important to eat to keep your metabolism up. You're trying to lose weight so not eating hinders that. Grab a handful of nuts or something... I've been doing that lately when I don't feel like cutting up celery and washing it and measuring out hummus.. I just grab a little handful of nuts.

zeffryn
09-19-2008, 04:20 PM
careful with those handful of nuts, Mel. They add up.

yeah I have 3 year old twins. They're underweight and eat ALL.DAY.LONG (or not at all despite me begging). They graze..so eating when they do is hard.

I had this meal... http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/Products/ProductInfoDisplay.aspx?SiteId=1&Product=2100001735

Probably only about 3/4 of the chicken because it was kinda gross.

You're right Z, 'cause it is really easy to overdo nuts! I grabbed approximately 15, I think Dr A said count out 15 or was it 12? And pistachios are like 30? Mm, pistachios. I need to get some pistachios!

I could easily be tempted to eat more.

Brenda, I haven't heard a good thing yet about those frozen meals. Homecooked stuff is so much better. A lot of people here had good tips about freezing meals and stuff.

I can imagine though, with 3 year old twins, it'd be really hard to get stuff done! I'm watching two kids on Sundays for a ripoff price, (meaning, I'm the one getting ripped off out of the kindness of my heart, haha) and they destroyed the place the other day when their mother randomly asked me to watch them for a few hours at the very last minute.. Anyway I had plans to cook and everything but I couldn't with them running around! Well the 9 month old doesn't run around but walks holding onto things, and let me tell you, he gets into everything.

So I can understand how hard it would be to get things done!

DS is underweight as well....but the height of a 4 year old at 42 inches tall. He eats 2500-3k calories a day but is so freakin' active. He has his father's metabolism.

Yeah....I haven't had a whole lot of luck with the SBD meals being actually good tasting. I've found that when I do eat them, I need to choke them down.

So, tonight I made the taco bake. I loaded the top with lettuce, tomatos, jalepenios and salsa, oh and a TB of light sour cream. I took the first bite and immediately realized *something* wasn't quite right. It was sweet! I then noticed that my jalepenios were "sweet and spicy!" Second ingredient -HFCS. Oh well! So I picked out all of my peppers. I'm getting better at finding hidden sugar but apparently still have some work to do!
Has anyone ever tried to freeze the taco bake? I know I will have a ton of it left over.

I have made the taco bake and then frozen it into smaller containers that I can just microwave for a quick lunch. It worked out fine.

Well, tonight is girls night. I loaded up on a big fat chicken breast at dinner. I have some phase 1 friendly stuffed mushrooms (I'll post the recipe. They have sun dried tomatoes, spinach, ricotta and feta cheese!!) that I'll be bringing with me. I am technically on phase 2 now. I will more than likely have at least one glass of wine. We'll see how I feel after that one and if I can resist a second.
Other than that, I am not that hungry, hopefully I can resist the goodies everyone usually brings!!

Hi everyone! :D Im Renee - was doing the Metobolic Research Center diet , stuck with it for 6 weeks (all I could afford to sign up for - good grief its expensive:rolleyes:) lost about hmmm 16 pounds I think but just could not justify the cost to sign up again. Anyway...hubby just had a physical and his cholesterol was a bit high and the doc recomended this diet - I actually bought the book a while back as my doc also suggested this diet. So being that I gained back some of what I lost cause I went balistic eating the very next day coming off MRC - yikes - Im gonna read the book and join you all here!!!!! Will more then likely have to adjust my ticker - I have been afraid to step on my scale since I went off MRC :ink:

Welcome :)

I never did get my mock waffle.. which my daughter calls a McWaffle.
Maybe for "dessert!"

Dinner was a chicken breast that was darn-right sinful. I marinated in a little olive oil sourcream lemon pepper (no worries.. it had lemon OIL.. not real lemon).. grilled that and it was soooo good. Had that with a vat of broccoli... my poor husband will suffer tonight because of all the broccoli I've had today. But he kinda deserves it for eating a Little Debbie right in front of me.

Hi Renee, welcome to the beach and stuff. I'm sure you'll like it here. Is that your adorable baby in the bebe pod thingy?

Today is my 9th day I believe .. Yep, just counted 'cause I started the 12th, so yeah, 9th day. I made jello last night so I had scrambled eggs with fat free cheese and some jello. I really don't particularly like jello. Probably is better with some sf whipped cream although I'm not crazy about whipped cream either unless it's real. I could make some so it's all natural and stuff..

Not feeling good. TOM is late. After my nausea bout yesterday combined with the ever increasingly late TOM (which I kept convincing myself was about to start), I'm thinking I need to head over to the health department this week or next.

Well since DH has a headache and I'm seriously getting a cold... I guess we're not going to the orchard. Boo.. and I was looking forward to the exercise.

This morning I had coffee and a mock waffle. Actually 1/2 a mock waffle. My girls saw the whipped cream I put on top and decided they wanted some too. Next time I'll just make 2.

Thinking of a salad and sliced ham for lunch.

Mel... go buy a test at walgreens!

zeffryn

Mel - definitely go buy a test...I'm anxious.

Brenda - no fun on the cold. Get some rest - thankfully it is the weekend..although that doesn't really matter with twin toddlers. ;)

Hello ladies!

I am almost done with phase 1..... Hmmmmmmm........ I think I am going try brown rice as my first add in next week.... Yum Chicken, rice, and broccoli.... Sounds good!

I am having a relaxing day hanging out with my DBF and dogs... we are having a nice day.

I am sneezing though.... my dbf's brother has cats! Ahhhhhhh!!

Have a nice weekend ladies.....

I'm feeling a lot better now than I did this afternoon, nauseous wise, anyway- I'm scared- called my friend to pick up a couple of cheapo tests for me, so tonight I'll take one. I'm the sort of nervous right now that makes your stomach clench.

All that beside, I'm making Taco Bake but a chicken kind, Chicken Taco Bake. And I'm making guacamole with chopped tomatoes, onion, garlic, bit of lime juice, a bit of cayenne powder... Excited about it. I was not too fond of the regular taco bake which is crazy because everyone else loves it, so I'm a weirdo. I already know I'm gonna adore the chicken kind, though.. it's chicken! So that's dinner.

Everyone's doing good... Akacutie, girl, you're almost there!! Yay! :D

I just wanted to say Day 14 for me.... I don't happen to be at home so I couldn't weigh this am. I will weight tomorrow, but My scale seems crazy lately.... I am feeling great, but I have had cravings for sugar the last two days... I have not idea as I havent' cheated! Maybe I shouldn't go to P2 after all..... Hmmmmmm?

I wanted to add Brown rice at dinner time next week as I have it at home and I don't have $ to really buy anything extra right now. Can't wait till pay day!

how is everyone today?

Jessers
09-21-2008, 02:42 PM
Hi Tracy! Today's my last day of Phase I of SBD, too - it actually went by more quickly than I thought! I spent the last week obsessing over what I was going to add back in, and I think I'm going to start with fruit, specifically apples, which I've been craving all week.

I noticed there was a period early in my second week when the scale didn't move much or at all, and I think the problem was that I wasn't eating enough. The next few days I made sure to take bigger servings at dinner, and also made sure I ate all my snacks, and then the weight started coming off. Maybe your body is hungry? Just an idea, I'm certainly not an expert!

Jessers!

Congrats on day 14! :bravo:

Thanks for sharing! Actually it very well could be that I an not eating enough... I have been a bit low on food this past week so I skipped out on snacks. Grrrrrrr... I actually getting some money from my Mom today to get more food. I hate car repairs! I am just going to move to P2 tomorrow. I actually havent' had cravings for sweets/sugar today at all so i think if I continue and make sure to get in all snacks and good amt of protien I should be golden.

I hope you have an awesome Sunday, Jessers! :cheer3:

09-21-2008, 02:57 PM
akacutie - if you haven't had any cravings, move on to P2.

Also, don't weigh every day...you're just asking for this diet to drive you crazy. You're probably not going to lose every day as the weight loss is slow (like it should be!). I would suggest once a week at most.

akacutie
09-21-2008, 03:04 PM
hello Zeffryn.... :)

Thanks for stopping by.... :D

Yeah, I haven't had cravings for sweets today... Just yesterday and Friday, but I have no idea why... No eating of foods other than the approved list for P1..... Bizarre but I am not going to worry about it. Just thinking on ward....to the great unknown!

On the weighing..... I couldn't handle weighing everyday.... It was my time for my weekly weigh in this am but I was at my DBF's house so I wasn't able to weigh. I will do it tomorrow to have an idea what I lost as grand total for P1 as tomorrow is the on to P2.

Well, I should probably go fold laundry now......Grrrrrrrr

Yay! I survived the neighborhood end of summer picnic. Man there were TONS of dishes there. everyone bought potluck and their own meat to grill. I had made a huge pasta salad which I didn't eat any of. I ended up having a chicken breast and then picked at the different veggies people brought. Someone brought a 3 bean salad that was really good.. wish I had the recipe. Also had a couple of deviled eggs, and some homemade humus with celery. It was actually pretty good.

And because the park is at the top of the hill overlooking the mountains.. I told DH to just pack it all in the rolling cooler and we'd hike up the hill. It's not a long hike.. but it's STEEP. like 200 yards of straight up... paved sidewalks and steps tho...

YAY ME.!!

Oh and I woke up with a 2 pound loss this morning.. WOOT.

My 9 and 12 year old girls wash, dry and fold the laundry for all 5 of the kids. It is their chore. I must say, it is soooooo nice when they get old enough to help out! I don't know what I would do without them!!!!

Day 12 for me. I'm doing fine- diet wise. I haven't worked out though in about a month due to vacation, hurricane evacuation, then school starting again (we homeschool). Enough excuses, I guess I just got out of the routine! So, today, I tried to do my turbo jam DVD and couldn't get through it. I used to be able to get through it without problem. I'm pretty upset that I allowed myself to get that out of shape. I guess I can only start again, and try to work my fitness level back up to where it was.
