Food Talk And Fabulous Finds - Favorite Low-Calorie Pancake Syrup?

I've had a hard time finding a low-calorie pancake syrup I like and have recently resorted to ordering ED Smith from Canada. I heard it's great and I certainly hope it is because I paid $30 for two bottles after shipping!
Anyway, what's your favorite low-cal syrup and what would you rate it on a scale of 1 to 10.

I use Mrs. Butter-worth sugar free. It's my favorite by far, so of course I would give it a 10. I have switched and my whole family uses it, my husband doesn't even like sugar free, but he loves it. I have also tried the wal-mart brand sugar free and it's ok, cheaper, but I prefer Mrs. Butter-worth.
I use Maple Grove Farms sugar-free. Has great maple flavor.
Drat, now I want pancakes.

I'm afraid of low cal/sugar free syrups. I got sick of trying new ones. So I just stuck with my reg Mrs. Butterworths and use it VERY sparingly.
I'm looking forward to this thread.

I use SF Golden Griddle. It's okay. I think they all are going to have a somewhat chemically taste. After saying that, I can't believe I even eat the stuff. I can't wait until I hit goal and can dip into some of the real stuff.

smuckers sugar free -slightly runnier - but the taste is the same and its only 30cals!

I usually skip the pancake syrup and instead make a topping out of fresh or frozen berries. I just heat some berries with cinnamon and a sweetener of some sort (sugar, honey, or splenda, depending on how many calories I have available). Or I'll eat the pancakes with jelly, jam, or NF cream cheese.

I love the original Mrs. Butter-worth and almost picked up some SF but was afraid of buying another bottle of syrup I'd throw out.
Thanks for your review -- I just may pick up a bottle next time I'm at the store.
I tried the SF Smuckers and didn't care for it. :(

Barb, I love strawberries sweetened with Splenda on those Aunt Jemima whole grain pancakes (found in the freezer section). And I've been thinking about diluting some spreadable fruit to make it the consistency of a syrup. But I miss maple syrup on French toast!

The list of ingredients on most commercial syrups make me raise an eyebrow (yes, I am weird and inconsistent), so if I ever eat syrup (can't remember the last time) it is a small amount of real maple syrup. I heat blueberries on the stovetop until they pop and get squishy and pour those over my (protein) pancakes. That's all they need.

hmm there must be a way to get that maple flavor without the artificial sweeteners..perhaps next weekend when I make the mock pancake recipe I found in another thread, I will experiment..I'm thinking of blending maple extract with plain non-fat yogurt.

I checked out the diet Mrs. Butter-worth today and noticed it has sorbitol in it. That stuff does a number on my digestive track!

Add a vote for Maple Grove Farms.
But I do want to add this caveat: I actually prefer "pancake syrup" to actual maple syrup, so I don't know if you want to necessarily take my opinion on it if you are looking for a maple sub.

I looked at the SF Maple Groves today and it, too, has sorbitol!
I haven't received my ED Smith order. I'm thinking about picking up some berries and having them on French toast this weekend. I think I'll try your idea, Blue -- add some cinnamon and sweetener to them. Mmmm!
I like Cary's sugar free pancake syrup. It has a good consistency. I rarely eat it though because I don't like pancakes and very rarely eat waffles/french toast. I don't think I have ever tried real maple syrup!

So I tried the yogurt thing this am. I thought I had maple extract but I didn't..will have to pick some up for next time. Instead I mixed some Davinci's caramel syrup (it has Splenda) and some pure vanilla extract into the plain nonfat yogurt and drizzled it over the mock pancakes. It was good. Just enough flavor to satisfy. I will definitely do it that way again.

When I was first diagnosed with diabetes I tried a bunch of different sugar free syrups and I found three that my whole family likes.
1. Cary's Sugar Free syrup (30 calories per 1/4 cup) It is the least expensive and is in my cubbard right now, so I could check the calorie count. Rate: 8
2. Mrs.Butterworth's- usually more expensive than Cary's, so I only buy it when on sale or I have a coupon. Rate: 8
3. Cracker Barrel Sugar Free Syrup- The nearest Cracker Barrel is about 20 miles away, so I only get this one when I am doing other shopping in that area. Rate: 10
I tried other brands and find them either to thin, or just not maple syrupy (is that a word?) enough.:)

Thanks for the reviews, Diana! I'm still awaiting my ED Smith syrup from Cananda -- it takes forever to get a shipment from there! But next time I'm at Cracker Barrel, I'll pick up some of their SF.

I really like Cary's Sugar-Free Syrup it's thick and has a really good taste to it. I found it right in my grocery store.

Guess what! Cracker Barrel's SF syrup is made by Maple Grove Farms. You can probably find it at your local grocer, Diane.
So the consensus is Maple Grove Farms is the best SF pancake syrup.

Maple Grove Farms Maple or Butter flavors - they're both great. Log Cabin's sugar-free isn't too bad, either, but MG's is cheaper and a bit thicker.

I finally received my order for ED Smith SF pancake syrup from Canada. It's definitely the best tasting SF syrup I've ever tried, but then I haven't tried the SF versions of Mrs. Butters-worth, Maple Grove Farms, etc. I'll probably give a couple of these a try before ordering again. Two bottles shipped from Canada set me back $30. So if I can find an alternative here in the States, I'm all for that. Anyway, I did enjoy diet French toast this morning!

I am a type one diabetic and I only use Howard's, since the sugar alcohol is lower in this syrup than any others. It comes in a smaller bottle than most other syrups, but your not supposed to use a lot of it.

Thank you for the information about Cracker Barrel's being made by Maple Grove Farms. If I can find it closer to home it would definitely save money in gas.:)

We're making oatmeal pancakes this weekend. So of course we were hunting for a good sugar-free maple syrup. We stumbled upon a Smuckers brand and Maple Grove Farms. My DH opted or the MGF. I think it may have been a good choice. :) I'll keep you posted. :)

I tried assorted berries heated with some cinnamon and Splenda added on top of a slice of French toast and it was awesome!

I recently picked up a copy of Eat This, Not That for Kids and they recommend Smucker's sugar-free syrup as an Eat This. I've never seen it and we don't eat anything calling for syrup (at home) very often (lately if I do have waffles I use them as a base for savory stuff like hash or beans; but I have been getting crumpets lately, which look like a small pancake cooked on one side, and I think they make a pretty good toaster substitute for pancakes) but I should keep an eye out for it

Some in this thread recommend Smucker's, but I threw out a bottle just the other day. To me, it's too thin and doesn't taste right.

I like Walden Farms syrup! I use it on a lot stuff. I especially love putting in plain yogurt. The brand is not in all grocery stores. I've found it at the Jewel Chains here in Chicago, IL. However, they do have a website.

Great losses so far Frank! How often do you use WF products? Do you use any other WF products?

Hands down for me it's Mrs. Butterworth's sugar-free! I think it taste great and is nice and thick!
I use it on whole grain waffles and pancakes and it's really good in my steel cut oatmeal.
