South Beach Diet - Garbanzo FlourView Full Version : Garbanzo Flour KO 09-05-2008, 03:53 PM Is Garbanzo flour Ph 1 compliant? if so I found that Skillet bread recipe KO 09-05-2008, 05:35 PM I googled this and found both the answer (which was no) and NESSA!! with a rockin Chick avatar! pookynutt 09-05-2008, 10:56 PM What?! i figured chickpea (garbonzo) flour would be compliant as it should be just ground chickpeas? i have been using it regularly! KO 09-05-2008, 11:00 PM Hey Pooky According to Nessa on the SBD forum on another site on page 164 of supercharged it says No flour since she's a SBD Goddess ;) I'll trust in her but its up to you what you do rdw1 09-06-2008, 11:07 AM I am no expert but I would think in small doses it would be ok- where do you find this flour? Ruthxxx 09-06-2008, 11:30 AM I can get it at my bulk food store. Page 164 definitely says No in Phase I. It quotes soybean and nut flours, for example, so garbanzo flour would be included. I imagine this rule is there because the fours would be concentrated carbs, digested more quickly because they are in powder form. This could cause a bloodsugar spike and that's what we are trying to avoid. ladybugnessa 09-06-2008, 11:49 AM I googled this and found both the answer (which was no) and NESSA!! with a rockin Chick avatar! HA! yep that's my FAT chick! pookynutt 09-06-2008, 03:31 PM It was just wishful thinking on my part i guess, oh well, thats what i get for assuming! guess its back to the drawing board! :) pookynutt 09-06-2008, 03:32 PM oh yeah and nevermind on that pb cake recipe i was experimenting with made with garbonzo beans as a sub for flour! :) pookynutt 09-06-2008, 03:36 PM what about for ph2? ladybugnessa 09-06-2008, 03:42 PM it would be fine in P2 but you can also just use whole wheat flour. zeffryn 09-06-2008, 04:13 PM oh yeah and nevermind on that pb cake recipe i was experimenting with made with garbonzo beans as a sub for flour! :) Did you use smashed, cooked garbanzo beans or garbanzo bean flour? The smashed, cooked beans would be fine. pookynutt 09-06-2008, 09:51 PM Did you use smashed, cooked garbanzo beans or garbanzo bean flour? The smashed, cooked beans would be fine. Oh ok. i was just wanting to use the flour, but i did use the cooked beans for that. thanks you guys for clearing this up for me. rdw1 09-07-2008, 10:44 AM I guess I was just assuming we were talking about p2... :/ I am bad about assuming things! lol. Thanks for the great advice guys! and thanks ruth for breaking it down for us!
