Good morning! The week is almost over already, can you believe it? :) I'm looking forward to the weekend for some much needed R & R. I'm supposed to watch little Tyler on Saturday, but that may change because of the weather forecast.
Last night's Chinese wasn't too bad. I had baked salmon and steamed shrimp w/vegetables, but I did succumb to two of those heavenly donuts. Today I'm right back on the wagon, though, and I'm not going to worry about it.
Another hot day is looming ahead of us, seems summer is making one last big bang. The girl's garden is pretty much finished, but we still have tons of tomatoes, and I'm going to try my hand at drying them in the dehydrator this weekend. I hope they turn out, I love sun-dried tomatoes. :)

Hi Cottage,

Enjoy your tomatoes! I love those sundried tomatoes, too.

Nothing new here. Same as yesterday.

Have a good day, beachers!

Good morning Chicks :coffee2:

Cottage - I love drying tomatoes - they are so yummy. I dry some of them with a sprinkle of garlic powder and oregano. The house smells like pizza :)

Nessa & Belle

It's going to be hot here today and tomorrow too. What a weird summer! I'm working at home today so will be doing data entry all morning. It's so much easier to get that done at home without interruptions. Then I've got to get the food preservation workshop together for next Tuesday. I'm looking forward to a mid-day break to pick more peaches and get a massage. The massages are the only thing that keep my cranky neck disk in line, just wish insurance would pay for it.

Have a good day

Good morning!

Good luck with the dehydrator, Cottage. PM me if you need info as I'll be here all day.

Cyndi, my current batch of drying tomatoes has garlic and dried basil and my house does smell like Dominos! Now I want pizza for breakfast but will settle for Laughing Cow and tomatoes on ww toast.

Ladybug and Belle, enjoy your day, whatever you have to do. It's a nice short week!

Sleeping in continues - made it to 6:30 this morning. I sure hope this continues for those dark November mornings. There's no need to be up three hours before the sun in winter.

I wish I could hand y'all tomatoes through the monitors! I am nearly caught up with the ones in the house but just know there are more out there. I've been avoiding the garden for three days, afraid to be attacked.

Today is supposed to be Donna Day but she had a bad fall on the weekend and has one arm in a sling and the other wrist in a brace, poor lady! I guess I'll have to see if I still can run the vacuum and use the mop. On the other hand, I have no planned company this weekend so ..... maybe I'll just pretend I live in a crack house.

Stay cool if you have hot weather. This is summer's last kick at the can.

Good morning ladies!!! Nothing new or exciting from me. On the agenda for today is going to the Hanna Andersson store to get some jammies for the kids and working with my son on his Bible verse for flag football (a church league). It's a long, very hard to remember, verse for me I cannot imagine a 7 year old mastering it. They sure expect a lot out of him. What happened to learning simple things like Jesus loves me!?!?! Anyway, I guess that's my vent for the day lol

Good morning all. Cottage good luck with the tomatos.

Ruth, I'll take some tomatos. I go through a lot!

Nessa, CONGRATS! hhmm, where'd I put that point counter?

When Brent was over he told me he had twelve tickets to fantasy Island (which he works at) that needed to be used. My sis and her family will take five, I'm not sure about going myself as I'm still having sharp pains every now and again!!! But my sis is uncomfortable with calling Brent for them because she doesn't know brent as well as I do. After mom died we had lost contact with the Georges. But when I became a Christian I got in contact with them and have been friends since. You see, Brents dad would come over when we were kids and engage us in songs and tell us Bible Stories. To this day he says out of the nine of us I was the LAST one he expected to become a Christian. hhmmm, strange, since ALL four sisters quit school, pregnant at 17, and defied mom every step of the way. And my four brothers all had records and other than John I was the only one to graduate high school. Hmmm, perhaps it was because his younger daughter used to spit in my face and lets just say that didn't set well with me?????

Anyway, gonna attempt to walk Jade this morning before the heat comes! She's going stir crazy as am I!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Morning Everyone!

Today shall be interesting and unusual. I seem to have woken up to a swollen bottom lip on the left side of my mouth. I do not know if it's from a bite or an allergic reaction because I had taken Tylenol PM last night and the night before and it has Diphenhydramine HCI in it and I'm not sure if I'm allergic to that though if it's the same as antihistamine I shouldn't have had a reaction. I dunno if I should take some Benadryl or not.

Aside from that, supposed to go to my sister's tonight, ehh..

Good morning! I can smell the weekend and can't wait til it gets here.

Cottage glad you had a good trip to chinese - those 2 "things" are in the past

Hiya Belle, Cyndi, Loriann & Pearl hope you all have a great day

Ruth sleeping in sounds great especially on a cold November morning. Hope Donna gets better real soon and as far as that vacum and mop go I would leave it in it's place

:woohoo: Nessa what a great weigh in

Autumn hope it takes no time for your son to learn the verse

Jelly take care of that lip situation and enjoy your time at your sisters

Nothin much here just glad Hanna won't be that big of a bother to us just hope she goes easy where ever she may land. Dh told me this morning at breakfast he wanted to take a nice evening walk after dinner which was a very nice surprise - I won't hold him to it as he may change his mind.

I really don't know what to do about my lip, it was fine before I went to bed, and in just 3 hours it suddenly appeared.. ya, I felt and saw that I had a swollen lip and now I can't get back to sleep.. I think I will try the Benadryl, helped when I got swollen eyelids and flushed cheeks in the past.

Good Morning Chicks! It's a rainy one here. Not much time for personals as my computer isn't navigating well today, perhaps it needs coffee too!

Nessa Great job on the loss, you rock!

After a great month in August, looks like this month is going to be a struggle. Nothing but nightmares on my desk right now. Guess I better get to it as hanging out here isn't going to accomplish much.

Have a great day ladies (and Matt wherever you might be)!

Wow, lots of chirpin' on our beach! Guess we have a lot of early birds...

No personals today...had a student waiting for me this morning when I got in.

Not much to share...DH has an impromptu work dinner tonight, so I'm on my own. I'll make dinner, perhaps do a little work in the garden (our raspberry canes need to be propped up before they kill off my basil and mint), and, hopefully, stay away from the computer so I can get to cleaning out my crafty room. I need to tunnel through the mess so I can actually try some scrapbooking! :dizzy:

Hope everyone has a beachy day. :beach:

Morning Ladies!
Cottage - Sounds like you did ok at the Buffet. Good job! Hope your tomatoes turn out!

Nessa - Congrats on the weigh in!!! Great job!

Belle - Hey there!

Cyndi - Hope you're able to get your massage soon. Does your insurance cover chiropractic?

Ruth - I would so take you up on that offer. I love tomatoes all sorts of ways.

Autumn - Ah, the joys of memorizing verses. I was never good at that. I get the general picture really well, but quoting word for word was always hard. Hope your ds does alright.

Loriann - Sounds like you had an interesting childhood growing up. Glad to hear that things are a little more stable in your life. I hope you decide to take the tickets. It sounds like a lot of fun.

Jellybean - I hope you're able to figure out what happened to your lip soon.

Pearlrose -

Gonnabe - A walk with your dh, sounds like a great idea!

Beachgal - Here's to hoping you get to scrapping tonight. Sounds fun!!!!

Me - Today will be interesting at work. We were told that the doors we have on our time-out rooms need to come off. So now our students will not have the opportunity to take a secluded time out when things get stressful for them. Staff are going to freak out. It'll be interesting to say the least. I'm sore today from exercising, but I think that's because I didn't work out at all while I was on vacation. Not very smart.
I hope you all have a wonderful Thursday!
ENJOY!!!

You are a riot, Ruth! I run the vacuum all the time, but sweeping and mopping are DH's job. He hasn't done it in forever, which isn't like him. It's driving me nuts! He put it off this weekend and said he'd do it tonight, but then he got stuck with a work dinner. I'm tired of stepping on stuff in the kitchen! :p So perhaps I'm living in a crack house?

Hey there chickies... just popping in, wow what a week, I love fall and love it when the kids go back to school, but it has been a crazy week trying to get everyone back into the school routine. Of course I am so OCD that I tend to get stressed out, but so far I am keeping pretty cool. I went back to dance class last night and we have a new teacher this year and god lord she is a killer, we were all sweating buckets. I had a blast and glad to be back. I am also going to be taking a line dancing class for 6 weeks starting on the 14th. Well gotta to dash the two wee ones are sleeping and I am going to grab a quick shower before we head to the playground. Have a great day.

morning girls. finally getting back to a somewhat normal week.....on a Thursday....my schedule is all out of whack - I can barely remember what day it is. Thankfully DH has a short work week and even more thankfully, he only lost two days of dissertation work because the labs were shut down.

This Friday's hurricane is supposed to be weak, but then another one is coming here, Hurricane Ike, who is supposed to be a category 4. BF is talking about us leaving the state to go see his dad in Illinois. He said if we stay here there will be nothing left (at the place we rent, not the entire state). I am not sure if he's being overly dramatic or if he has his info wrong. I don't watch the weather much so I mainly get my info from him.

He said our local weatherman said it's gonna be a big one. I think I'll watch the news tonight.

Anyway, I just made a crustless spinach quiche in the oven and it's cooling and it smells scrumptious. I used mainly swiss, but also some reduced fat cheddar as well. Yummmm!

Hi chicks, I have buzzed by a couple of times today to read but haven't taken time to say hello. Lots going on here today and this evening will be running kids to various activities. Now that the school year has started, things are kicking in full force.
Haven't decided about the Orlando trip yet. My main concern is if it will be a bad time to be away from work, but then, is there ever a good time? Also, $$$. Trying to decide if I wouldn't rather buy a new couch with the money. Although I am feeling wealthy today, since DH's paycheck went in the bank yesterday. He gets paid once a month, so it is a nice fat check when it goes in. Maybe I should do both! Down, girl.
And speaking of DH, 2 months down now, 2 to go!
My friend bought me a big box of Concord grapes from her vines, so I am trying my hand at grape jam today. I found a recipe that uses honey and no pectin, and I subbed half agave nectar, so I'm not sure if it will gel or not. If not, I will still have some yummy grape pancake syrup for the kiddies! Of course I picked the hottest day of the year to do it.

congrats Nessa, that is awesome! It's my goal for the entire month of September! What do you think is different about the way you are eating now vs before?

Poor Kim, get back to bed, and feel better, hon!

Hurricane Ike is still way way way way way too far offshore to tell where it is going to go - and whether it will stay a category 4, well, that is to be decided. It probably will stay on it's path, but a LOT can happen in a week. Florida will probably get the worst of it, with Georgia getting rather bad winds as well.....the Carolinas will get probably tropical storm stuff, which probably won't do much structural damage.

Deal with Hanna now and then figure out what Ike is doing.

Also, http://www.nhc.noaa.gov is a great place to go for information on hurricanes and other storms. It's nice to have information for yourself and not second hand information.

GonnaBe - Mandy is probably still evacuated, I think they are opening up the lower parishes at 6 a.m. tomorrow morning....and Cat? She is still probably without power, but I heard her area fared quite well (as well as it could have, so to speak).

I have friends in the lower parishes that are dying to go home....to no power, no sewage, no drinkable water (we're under a boil order - EVERYTHING has to be boiled for a minute before drinking, brushing teeth, etc.)...I would rather stay in a hotel for a few more days and let that stuff work itself out rather than be in a hot house with no amenities for days....but that is just me. ;)

I'm thinking about doing a combination - a personal trainer friend said it was a really great idea.

ladybugnessa
09-04-2008, 03:43 PM
well if you want to do a combo I would suggest checking out the website and seeing if a 3 month trial of etools (65 dollars for 3 months) is workable.

i'm paying 40 a month for a monthly pass that gets me into meetings and gets me the etools and all online stuff.

it's pretty cool if i put a recipe in and tell it how many servings it tells me how many points.

the key is that i got a good scale and i'm using it. so you could just do calorie counting and do the same thing.

zeffryn
09-04-2008, 03:49 PM
65 for 3 months is doable. I like the idea of meetings, but with a new baby I'm not sure how feasible that is going to be right away.

I like the idea of a tool that tells me how many points - I tried ww casually a few years back, and calculating points was so difficult.

I have a scale - somewhere in the abyss that is my back pantry - I'll have to dig it out.

Thanks for the info, chick!

hey we are all in this together... and the truth is I LOVE SBD but I have to HAVE to watch my portions.

if you look at what i ate over the last week you will see greek yogurt, sweet potato, lean meat, tons of veggies, oatmeal, bananas, blueberries, eggs, chicken, walnuts, salmon, feta.... NOTHING i was eating changed... just the AMOUNTS I was eating. I'm HOLDING MYSELF accountable.

doing the points thing (weighing and measuring) REALLY opened my eyes to just how much i was eating... AND WHY I WAS NOT LOSING!

zeffryn
09-04-2008, 04:07 PM
I definitely understand that - it is so easy to get wrapped up in the thinking of "if I eat SBD approved foods, it doesn't matter how MUCH of that food I eat"....and end up eating a brick of lf cheese and 5 ricotta cremes in a night. Portion control is huge and can become a problem if I don't watch myself.

In the end, more calories in than calories out is still going to play a part in how much one is losing.

Also, you're probably eating healthier foods than most women on Weight Watchers.

weezle
09-04-2008, 04:29 PM
I love the SBD/WW combo. Occasionally I fall off the Ph2 part (and when it gets really bad, you hear me whining about going back on Ph1) but for the most part, I just count my points and stick to fruits, veggies, whole grains, LF dairy, beans, etc. I don't do the meetings anymore. I did them years ago, but found that the largest benefit from the meetings is the emotional support, and I get that here, so I saved myself $11/week. I can weigh myself and give myself a little shiny star sticker for every 5 lbs I lose. But for those who need the extra support like my friend Molly and her mom, it's totally worth it.

I can certainly see how the WW/SBD combination would be excellent. I was pretty good at counting points but found after I started SBD that the reason I struggle so was just over doing the carbs and then falling into the craving cycle. Get that out of they way and the point counting would certainly assist in portion control. I've been counting calories from the beginning but I am really lazy about measuring portions and may decide to dust off the scale and start working on myself.

Fat Melanie
09-04-2008, 05:33 PM
Lady Nessa, I have to watch my portions too. Which I haven't been doing, but I NEED to. I had a spinach quiche earlier and I ate two large portions off the bat. Completely SBD friendly food, but how many CALS was in that, and how much was REALLY a portion and not just my distorted view of what a portion looks like? I need to start measuring everything as well. It's a pain though.

Hurricane Ike is still way way way way way too far offshore to tell where it is going to go - and whether it will stay a category 4, well, that is to be decided. It probably will stay on it's path, but a LOT can happen in a week. Thank you Zeffryn. I agree, nice to have the info for myself. I swear I think my crazy man makes things up sometimes. He also fancies himself to be an amateur meterologist. You guys should hear some of the stuff he says regarding the weather and the way he describes it (and usually is always wrong). It's amusing because half of the info he gets from the television and then starts going off on tangents with his own theories, which is PROBABLY where he came up with the idea that Ike is going to destroy my county. He probably actually believes it and in his mind, thinks that is what the meterologist on TV actually said. Heh. I'll tune him out next time and just visit the website link your provided.

Pffft! Okay, I am on the website and entered in my zip code. I see NOTHING about any hurricane hitting us tomorrow, all I see is something about 'possible tropical storm conditions and possible thunderstorms'. Tropical storms can be like a side effect of hurricanes hitting other areas, right? Still, there is nothing on that website about a hurricane hitting my county tomorrow. My bf needs to be put on a chain. He's already terrified three of my friends who live by the water (where the areas tend to flood) with his so-called weather reports. I've gotta do some damage control.

weezle
09-04-2008, 06:16 PM
So you are eating the same stuff, but less of it. Any hunger issues?

I have to agree with Nessa. The only time I get TRULY hungry (I complain about hunger all the time but it's really that I WANT to eat, not that I need to) is when I'm not getting enough water. Counting points holds me accountable for what I'm eating, because I'll eat until the cows come home, as I'm a bottomless pit.

For example, if I make the Italian Spinach Pie (Ph1 Entrees) I know that 1 serving (1/8 of the pie) is 4 points. If I eat half the pie, which I could because it's so good, that's 16 points! It doesn't leave me with a whole lot left to eat for the day. Now, I could have 2 servings (8 points) and that would be plenty, and have a salad with SBD-friendly Italian dressing (1 point) and some green beans (0 points.) That makes for a filling, SBD meal but I didn't over-eat, so I can eat decent amounts of food throughout the day (meal, snack, meal, snack, meal) and stay within the amount of points that I'm allowed in a day.

WW points are based on calories, fat, and fiber, and most vegetables and some fruits are 0 points, in moderation. The amount of points you get per day is based on your current weight, activity levels, etc. They take a lot of things into consideration, and when you work out, you get "Activity Points" that you can use if you like.

40 lbs down for me doing the combo. We all struggle, and granted I just got over the plateau I'd been on for several months, but they say the last 10 lbs are the hardest to lose. I have 5 to go!

Glad it's working out for you Nessa! Let me know if you need help with anything, as I know WW can be a bit confusing at first!

doing the points thing (weighing and measuring) REALLY opened my eyes to just how much i was eating... AND WHY I WAS NOT LOSING!

That's why I added calorie counting and monitoring fat percentages. I think we are all so used to restaurant sized meals we have no idea what a serving size is anymore. That was certainly my problem. I learned to appreciate cabbage and other filling low calorie foods! Sometimes I even measure my low cal veggies just to remind me myself how much 1 cup is.

Fat Melanie
09-04-2008, 06:53 PM
I definitely am surprised when I DO take the time to measure out a portion size and see how small it is as opposed to what I would take if I didn't measure it.

I really need to start measuring again, it's a good idea. Time consuming, a bit, but better than gaining weight.

ok, you guys convinced me.....a combo it is ;)

Getting ready to watch McCain's speech.

Went to the park this afternoon - LOTS of huge trees down, but playground equipment was all fine. DS loved his time there.

Afterwards, went to get DH's haircut and went to Michaels to see what kind of fall stuff they had. Got a cute autumn-y wreath for the front door.

Melanie- I have a bunch of $5 checks from Enfamil that I won't be using by the time they expire....interested? I'll mail them to you if you are. You can only use one coupon per can, but $5 off formula is a pretty good deal. :) Let me know.
