Hi there
I'm new and on day 2 of phase 1 and I'm missing fruit already but I figure I can do anything for two weeks.

I'm on day 3 today. It hasn't been too difficult, but I kind of prepared for it by trying to cut down my fruit and bread servings to 1 or 2 a day for a couple of weeks beforehand.
I have made two of the fritattas in the old cookbook and they were both really delicious. For dinner we've had the gingered pork loin and the spaghetti squash casserole. Both were really tasty and my family liked them too.
I was really hungry the first day even though it seemed as though I ate a lot of food, but yesterday was better. I actually finished the day with under 1200 calories, which I wasn't too happy about. By the time I realized it though I wasn't about to cram in food before bed when I wasn't hungry. It think it was a fluke though -- I missed my morning snack because we were at the mall and we ate dinner so late that I didn't eat much.
Anyway, so far so good!

Today is Monday and I'm back on Phase 1 and if I don't do it clean this time, then I'm going to be very angry at myself. I keep screwing up and I need a clean phase 1 to get me back on track. I'm not happy with my recent food decisions, at all.
Breakfast was 2 scrambled eggs with reduced fat cheddar. About to drink some v8.

I am starting ph1 again tomorrow. The past few weeks to month have been a total bust! Gotta get back to exercising too!
Fat Melanie

I can't believe I managed to do 60 minutes on my exercise bike today!!! I did 30 minutes, stopped to prepare dinner (had to marinate the meat), and then did another 30 minutes. I have this old Schwinn exercise bike that someone had out in their yard with a sign that said "Please take". It gives a really good workout, plus you can switch the dial to up or lower the intensity. I am proud of myself, god I hope I can keep that up.
Breakfast was 2 scrambled eggs with rf cheddar and a tall glass of V8.
Snack was celery with PB. Lunch was chicken spinach soup. (I got creative.)
I didn't have a snack, so that's bad. I'm making as we speak, asian stirfry for dinner, chopped cabbage, chunks of beef, broccoli, green beans, and then an asian stirfry sauce I made with PB, sesame oil, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, vinegar and bit of splenda to cut the vinegar and salt.
So, I know that for today I've had too much PB, or will when I eat dinner. (Although I didn't put that much PB in the sauce.) And I skipped a snack. And my glass of v8 was too tall.
BUT, it's better than how I have been eating lately, way better.

Hi All,
I am new here and really hoping for success with SBD. Today went okay, but it was really, really hard to resist the carb snacks that my kids had (goldfish, anyone?) I had some great roast beef and green beans for dinner though.
I do have a few questions about Phase 1 for you more experienced folks:
1) I got so hungry at about 3 pm that I thought I would chew my arm off. Seriously, it was baaaad. This is unusual for me. I had some celery and natural peanut butter. Then I had more celery. Then I just remained hungry until dinner.
Are you guys experiencing this? Any suggestions?
2) I was really eager to get going on this, but I am not sure I am going to be able to do the whole two weeks. My best friend is getting married a little under two weeks from now and I am going to be the matron of honor. Anyway, I am not going to have much control over food, etc at the various events (5 in all). And I am NOT going to fake toast--I will drink the champagne :) Will it derail the whole thing? will I have to do the 2 weeks over?

I had a HUGE success today! My BF wanted subway and I agreed but I ended up getting a salad there, which I've never had before. I love their bread so much but I was so strong and I think the 8 lbs loss from my first week gave me that extra will power. WOOOHOO!!!

Oaktree, I feel ya. I just had dinner, which was beef stirfry with satay sauce, broccoli, green beans and cabbage, and I had a pretty big portion. But I'm hungry again. Not starving, but hungry.
When that happens, I usually try to get my dairy in. For example, I'm about to measure out two cups of skim milk, and mix in a little splenda and hershey's pure cocoa, and microwave it for a hot cocoa treat. I find that milk is filling. Maybe during the day, when you have your celery and PB snack, you could get some dairy in, like a cup of milk with the celery and PB.
Mojolove, I've given into temptation at Subway before when my BF wanted it. The last time, I opted for a sub made into a salad with all of the veggies. My complaint is that they really skimped on the turkey. However the past week or so I've been binging on a lot of bad stuff so today I started back on phase 1. You did an excellent job! :D

I did well for breakfast and lunch but ended up eating out for dinner so we could stay close to the hospital. I just had a fudgecicle and am satisfied. Tomorrow we'll eat dinner before heading to the hospital so it should be better. I'm not trying for a perfect phase 1 since I have been on this plan so long and am not having cravings. I just want to come close to a phase 1 to jumpstart the loss again.
Oaktree - Others may not agree but I recommend doing a strict phase 1 until the wedding meals. Then stay on plan as much as possible and get back on plan after the wedding. You will want to go back on phase 1 after the wedding until the cravings disappear. You may find you don't need a whole 2 weeks since you are getting almost 2 weeks on phase 1 before this but you may find that you do. You are allowed 2 TBSP of peanut butter a day (if you are not eating lunch). You should be eating an afternoon snack and I know 3 is about the time I am normally hungry. Peanut butter is one thing that I find to be very filling.

Thanks for the suggestions--for me, the beans are the best thing to increase because I like them so much. Dairy is much harder for me since I really don't like milk or most cheeses. Calcium is a struggle for me.
I am doing a strict phase I until the wedding--I hope that I can at least stay partially on the wagon at the celebration. Like give my husband any potatoes right off the bat...

Yeah, I am really bad about getting my beans in. :( I'm not that crazy about beans, unfortunately. It's hard to tuck 'em away. I do like chickpeas, but the roasted kind only. But I do love, love, love hummus. I think I'll get some plain hummus from the store and mash in some PB since I don't have any food processor thingies, so I don't go overboard on the PB. Thanks for the idea. (I admit I never tried that recipe I posted, although I think we're supposed to test them out before we post or something. But it will be a good sneaky way to get some beans in so I've gotta try it.)
Edit: Oaktree, you can have all of my beans. :p
Nah, I've got a bag of beans that's been in the cupboard for 2 months, that I should probably go ahead and cook and get it over with. *dread* Perhaps I can make some sort of bean soup so it won't be as bad. I can just slurp them down with a tasty broth and not have to chew them. Heh heh heh.

Hello, everyone! D1 of P1 for me today. Got to get back on track before the fall comes. We're going to be in and out of town so much that it will be really hard to stay on track. I'm going super-basic for the two weeks of P1; same breakfast every day, mostly the same lunch every day, similar snacks and etc. It really makes it easy to shop and plan for everything.
Here's today's menu:
B: 2 eggs scrambled with onions and fresh spinach, 2 slices turkey bacon, 6 oz. V8
S: 1 c. plain, ff yogurt with 1 SF, Calorie-free drink mix stirred in
L: Salmon w/onion, 1 TB. light mayo and basil, salad greens, homemade cajun vinaigrette, 1 PS mozz string cheese
Goal H20: 90 oz (50 oz so far)
Goal Exercise: 20 min. Cardio dance dvd - done
Congrats to all of the new beachers and hello to the "old" ones! Hope we can help each other along!

I'm on day 4 today. As for hunger: Day 1 I was quite hungry; Day 2 I wasn't hungry except that I missed my a.m. snack and was ravenous by lunchtime; Day 3 was fine except that the only things I could eat at the cookout we attended were a chicken breast and some raw veggies, so my after-dinner snack was more like a meal. Today I was fine until about 3:30pm -- now I'm really hungry in spite of eating celery, cucumber, an oz of hummus, and an oz of lowfat cheese at about 3pm.
I had the broccoli soup from the newer SB book last night and it was quite tasty. Every recipe I've made so far has been quite good. Tonight we're having Taco Bake.

So I'm back in P1 for a 2 week stint because I was *craving* sugars/breads and I was very naughty over labor day weekend.
Here's my menu:
B: 2 egg omelett w/ mushrooms, 1 slice cheese, 1/2 cup broccoli
S: 1 string cheese
L: Black bean soup, 1 cup salad w/ 3 pieces of cooked chicken breast
S: Snow peas and hummus
D: Tofu and yellow summer squash, salad with tomato and onion and mushroom
Also, I found these South Beach Diet "Tide me Over" drink mixes which is a koolaid type thing with 5 g of fiber and 3 g of protein. If I get hungry, i may have one. And all of my splenda has 1 g of fiber in it, so that will help.
I must remember to drink my water. A doctor once told me I needed a half ounce per pound, so therefore I should be drinking 105 oz.... That's almost a gallon of water, or 4.5 of my 700 ml water bottles here.

I'm working from home today and so far everything is going well. I had some of the leftover Mexican Chicken soup for lunch. That stuff is so good but it needs some black beans added. I'll do that next time since Brian and I both love beans.

DH was home today and offered to take his girls (my 3yr old DD and I) out for lunch today. He had a taste for the Pizza Hut buffet! AHH! At first I said no thanks. Then I said, wait, they have a salad bar... OK, let's do it! I was nervous. How was I going to resist that pizza? Guess what, I left there without a single bite of pizza or breadsticks!! I ate 2 heaping plates of salad with lots of veggies and cottage cheese with sunflower seeds. They did have one pizza that looked good, it was chicken breast with veggies. So scraped off all the toppings and ate only the cheese with the veggies and chicken. I can't beleive HOW EASY it was for me not to eat that today!!
I did awesome yesterday. I need to eat something more filling for dinner. Last night at 11pm, my stomach was growling. I didn't want to eat so late, so I didn't. Today I'll make sure what I pick is a little more filling.

Oh yeah, a question I had. Are we allowed to have that Propel Fitness water? It has 2g carbs & 2g sugar. I don't see sugar or fruit juice listed as an ingred, but I do see sucrose syrup.
It is 10 calories a serving.
Thanks,

Sucrose syrup is sugar, just a fancier name for it I guess. I think, anyway. Don't take my word on it, see what the others say. I'm not entirely sure. :)
I forgot to mention to you guys about the chickpeas/chicken salad deal, well I did it and it was okay. I felt really full afterwards, for hours. (That could be because I used too much mayo and ate too much chicken salad, but probably the chickpeas as well.)
Also, Barb, black beans are one type of bean I can somewhat tolerate. I once made a spicy chicken crockpot thing pre SBD with cilantro, hot sauce, chicken, black beans, canned tomatoes with chiles, corn, brown rice. Subtract the corn and it would be Ph 2 perfect. It was actually really good, even with the beans, so I'm okay with black beans. Probably not plain, though. I tried that once and just could not stomach it.
I made roasted chickpeas out of the rest of the cooked chickpeas today. I cooked them with cooking spray only, but after they were done, when I put the spices on them, I put about a teaspoon or so of sesame oil for extra flavor and some healthy fat and shook it up until every pea was spiced. Yum. I roasted them on 400 and some got black and burnt but I don't care. The ones that didn't get burnt are crispy.
I have no idea what I will have for dinner and that's the same problem that got me into the mess I got into last night. (Thankfully, didn't binge.) I think maybe I'll make us porkchops and broccoli with cheese.a

Sucrose syrup is sugar syrup and to be avoided.
Mel, better watch the cheese if you've already had Swiss (regular) and RF for lunch with that quiche. Portions do count as Ladybugnessa is discovering as she does the WW/SBD tango.
Jenny, same cheese warning for you. The pizza cheese was probably full fat but you did the best you could. We do have to get on with our lives despite making this lifestyle change. Nightime hungries often disappear after a glass of skim milk.
Now I'm getting cheese cravings!

Good point about the full fat cheese! It was only 1 piece, so hopefully I didn't do too much damage!
So I was getting hungry when I was at the gym. (I ate a small snack before I left, but it was close to dinner time.)
I planned accordingly, had the chicken in the oven so when I got home it would be minutes till dinner was on the table. While at the gym, I was watching TV, and every food commercial made my mouth water! Even watching Sienfield eat a bowl of cereal was making me sad! I love cereal!
I cam home, at my SB foods and stayed OP, but boy was I missing all those foods when I saw them on TV!

Yesterday was a lesson that "failing to plan is planning to fail". Lesson learned, I *need* to do a better job planning my Thursdays. I teach at USC on Thursdays, so I get to work early, and then run up to class and teach until 7:30. Then I had to go out and do a site visit for work afterwards. I didn't get home until 11pm.
I'm tuckered out!
Here's what I ate yesterday:
B: 2 eggs, 1 C. Brocolli
S: 1 string cheese
L: 5 celeries, 2 scooped with hummus and 1 scooped with herb goat cheese
...
...
11pm: I wolf down a salad with chicken and blackbeans.
So I *did* manage to eat on plan, but not on schedule, which is really bad. I also didn't drink enough water.
Next Thursday I need to be much better about my planning.
Good news about it was that I made August's goal weight... don't think I plan on starving all day to do it again, though...
Today may be similarly hard:
B: Dissected sausage and egg sandwich, no bread, snow peas
S: 1 String Cheese
L: Salad from somewhere?
S: Hard Boiled egg, finish off those snow peas
D: Grilled turkey breast, asparagus, and a side salad.

Gonna glad to hear you are feeling better- that is how I felt day 2.
Today is day four for me and I feel great though I am a bit crappy but that could be related to TOM hehe, plus I got on the scale and it was back up today but it could be related to so many things I am not going to worry about it and just keep plugging along.
Happy I normally have headaches until day 4 and then they magically disappear.

I'm glad I decided to do this. I has been really helping to jumpstart my weight loss. I'm down 2.5 since Monday morning even though I had a small cheat last night. I don't plan on doing a full two weeks since this is not my first phase 1 and I'm not having cravings but this has helped to get me back on track. I actually managed to pass up ice cream the other night. :)

I'm on day 7 today and so far, so good. I haven't had any issues except that I have noticed that during my workouts I feel as though I'm slogging through mud and have sore leg muscles. I'm wondering if perhaps it is my low carb intake. I guess I can stand it for another week, though my workouts are suffering a bit since I can't do quite as high a level on the stationary bike or go as fast on the elliptical.
I kind of wonder if people who don't have success on SB don't actually cook any of the recipes? Every recipe I've made has been really good -- except the "pancake" -- didn't care much for that one. This is truly the first time in my life that I've not walked around STARVING all the time while trying to lose weight.

I took Ruth's advice and watched the cheese intake. I didn't have any more cheese for the rest of the day. Instead of pork chops and broccoli with cheese, I ate an entire head of cauliflower! It was delicious although I think I messed the recipe up. (It was supposed to be the cauliflower popcorn.)
I roasted the entire cauliflower with some smart balance and seasonings, and ate the whole plate and a glass of milk. I was full, except later that night got the munchies so I grabbed a tiny little handful of roasted chickpeas and went to bed.
Right now I'm waiting on a chef's salad to be brought to me. BF went to get him a sub.

If you can, take a nap. It's not just for toddlers. :)
And I'm fatigued too, but that's cause this week has been hard work!

Naps are great! I have learnt to recognize when I need one and a half hour perks me right up.

half-way through day 5.
for tonight's dinner I need to do a vegetarian meal with legumes, I think.
I've had plenty of eggs/cheese this week!

I weighed myself this morning and lost four pounds the first week. I'm really pleasantly surprised! I was preparing myself for disappointment because I'd already lost 7 pounds or so in the last two months.
I'm not craving bread, but I swear the thought of oatmeal makes me salivate right now! Yesterday when my girls were eating a banana, I had to leave the room.

So is the feeling tired, actually EXHAUSTED in my case, and fatigue feelings a result of the low carbs? I have been fighting the flu for the last week, and it just won't go away. On top of that, I have no energy at all! I went to the gym twice this week and I had to push myself thru my workouts. I am not sleeping well at night, so I just thought it was from the flu.
Am I going crazy?? Even DH said today, what is wrong with you?!?! Must be bad for him to notice! :-)

Well- My name is Tracy. I am 28 years old; I have been overweight since my teen years. I have been trying to lose weight on and off for as long as I can remember. My mom would recruit my younger sister and I as diet buddies and we would all do well but then surely we would gain back all the weight and more everytime.
Yo-yo is common for me, so much so that I have lost and regained the same 30 lbs every year for the last 3 years. I just keep trying I want to be healthier! I am almost at my highest weight again which is 255.... I am close which scares me. I have done SB a few times in the past with much success until I added to many carbs and then processed carbs.... it was all downhill from there. I am recently coming off another failed attempt at WW. I am so busy that I was having trouble counting points and I wasn't planning which was a problem.
I am READY to get on track with a plan that I can manage while I work fulltime and attend school as well. I am going to plan ahead for all meals in snacks. I have planned out the first week already. i have all stocked up on food and containers to bring my lunches and snacks.
Tomorrow is my first day of P1! I have enjoyed reading your posts and hope to hear from all of you soon!
