Thought I would lump the whole weekend into one chat, as it will most likely be quiet around here.
Today we have a BBQ at a friends, tomorrow a birthday/pool party (I have to make a cupcake tower, YAY!), and Monday not much planned. Kids start school on Tues. Cadence is on the countdown, three days til she's a kindergartner...she's so darn cute.
RLK, congrats on the pregnancy!! Hope everything goes well for you. I wouldn't get a puppy, so much work. We got our Bichon 2.5 years ago when my youngest was 3, and we probably should've waited til now, she's 5. She was pretty rough with Daisy (the dog), thank goodness Daisy is a good dog. Cady is so much more mature, and so much better with her now. Not only that, but it does take an incredible amount of time and patience to train a puppy properly. Just my two cents.
Cafeine, hope your mom is okay. Sorry about the trip being cancelled, hopefully you can get there soon!!
Erin, hope you are able to enjoy the weekend...is this the first time you're back to work since having kids?? Best wishes to you!!
GG, sounds like you had a great day yesterday!! Are you working all weekend? Hope not.
Well, I'm off to get some laundry done. DH has to work today (lots of overtime lately, YAY!), so he'll meet us at the BBQ. Hopefully it won't rain too much, it's pretty cloudy today.
Have a super weekend, everyone!!

Happy Weekend!!! Not much going on here. Really bad cramps today but I did get weighed and I'm down 1.2!!! I didn't weigh in last week since it was the end of vaca so the 1.2 is for 2 weeks but I have TOM right now so I'm happy I showed some loss on the scale.
Rikki... NO puppy. I speak from experience. It would be OK now but once your tummy is bigger, you won't be able to bend over and most importantly when you bring baby home, it's like chaos. I hated it and it was supposed to be the happiest time of my life!! ARGH!! Please... do yourself a favor... enjoy the pregnancy... quietly!! LOL
Congratulations on the baby!!!!!!!

Rikki - One BIG reason I would suggest not getting a puppy till the baby is older...accidents. If you have carpet, it WILL be used no matter how much paper you put out or how much crate training you do. They can surprise you. Especially once your tummy is in the way, cleaning puppy pee out of the carpet isn't fun, and it leaks into the padding. You can clean it, and put stuff down on it, but really...unless you have only wood floors...your carpets will never bee as clean as they were before. Just something to think about. Getting a puppy AFTER the baby can get around and has stopped putting everything on the floor in his/her mouth might be a good idea. Oh, and it also helps to have a dog that is older when you have a baby rather than a puppy. Puppies WILL chew...on anything or anyone sometimes. They also don't have the impulse control that older dogs do...just like baby humans. :) If the baby pulls a tail, puppy probably bites, not because he is mean, just because it is his way of saying "ouch". We had to put "bitter apple" on our fingers, the blinds in the family room, heck...even on the carpet in one spot just to get our beagle to stop chewing on things. He was a mouthy dog and it took a good while to get him over it. Having a baby with him around would not have been good. In our puppy training clicker class...he got so excited that he'd done something right and was getting a reward that he missed the bit of turkey and bit my finger. Puppy teeth are little needles...I bled all over the place. He now will let you take things out of his mouth, you can take his food bowl away from him while he's eating, he would never bit, it just took what seemed like forever to break him of that. having a baby when we had him...I'd have gone insane and though we would NEVER get rid of an animal once we took it, he'd have brought me pretty close to it.
08-30-2008, 10:33 AM
Don't know about my mom yet...they didn't make it to the Dr. on time last night and so the doctor said since she's not having chest pains she didn't need to go to the ER but to come in the minute the office opens today. That is in another hour and a half.
08-30-2008, 11:21 AM
Mornin' All!
Caff, I have to go back and read yesterday's to find out about your mom. Hope she's OK!! About the puppy, you weren't hear when we got our puppy, we were soo excited, the cuteness ruled us. I'm soo sorry we got him now, and did go as far as calling our vet hospital and asking them if anyone there wanted him, because they all love him there. They said they'd ask around and one girl really wanted him but she was in the midst of moving and wasn't sure if the landlord would let her have a dog. He didn't. I'm glad, because he's actually starting to get better. We finally got a clicker (the pet stores were all out of stock for months!) and he learned very quickly that clicker = treat. Right now we're only using it to get him to come when he's running around outside and starts to run away. And as far as chewing...geez louise...this guy chews everything!! We've been through soo many toys! Two tug-of-war ropes, a stuffed long dog thing (like in the commercials), squeaky foot, squeaky football (still in one piece, but squeaker is gone), he finally just managed to destroy a thick blue rubber bone, made for "strong chewers". This am he destroyed a frisbee. All he has left now if nyla-bones...which of course he can't be bothered with! :tantrum: Told DH we're not buying him anymore toys that he's going to instantly destroy! He needs to learn to like his nyla-bones! He is getting to be a better listener, but he still thinks that everyone wants to play with him, wants to be licked by him, jumped on by him...etc. He's got lots of manners to learn.
Question as far as clicker training (I know I'm rambling here, sorry!) The clicker is supposed to be positive reinforcement, isn't it? So how do I teach him not to jump with the clicker? I was thinking I'd click and give him a treat if he got down when I clicked. But is that positive reinforcement? Will he think that all he has to do is jump up to hear the clicker and get a treat?
Valerie, Congrats on the loss!! :cheer:
Pam, Good idea lumping us! :) Have fun at the BBQ! How many cupcakes does the tower hold? I was going nuts trying to figure out how to transport 2 doz. cupcakes to daycare yesterday, because the caddy I have only has spots for 12. I was able to use just the cake surface and fit 14, but what I ended up doing was bring that, plus a 9x13 pan with a dozen in it. It was a PITA, but it worked.
We're cleaning today, probably tomorrow too. Going to my cousin's for a BBQ on Monday. I wanted to do it Sunday, but my brother can't come until Monday. I hate driving on the Parkway on Holidays!
Have a great weekend all!
08-30-2008, 12:15 PM
Lauren, one of the biggest commands we learned with our beagle and clicker training was the "automatic down". You stand there, holding the clicker and the treat and just stare at the dog. They'll do all sorts of things trying to figure out what the heck you want, and then eventually they will lay down. You click and give them the treat. Chaucer our beagle was the FIRST in the class to figure out that. About the only thing he was first at. :D
Oh, and a couple toys that aren't easily destroyed and are loads of fun for dogs. A Kong that you put a thin layer of peanut butter or something in. Also, there is a cube. You put dog food in it (not much) and set the difficulty on how hard it will be to get the food out. Then, let the dog have it. There is a maze on the inside and so they have to roll the cube around and around till some food falls out. If you set it hard enough that it takes them a while, they can stay occupied for quite a while. It is too big for any puppy to put in its mouth so chewing on it is a bit hard, plus...that doesn't accomplish anything.
If you can get into a clicker training class that is the best. I think Pet Smart or Pet Co usually have one. Do NOT do any class where they tell you that you have to use a choke chain. Heck, we checked out a class where the guy wanted everyone, no matter what, to use those choke chains with the spikes that face in. We watched all of about 3 minutes of the class and left in a hurry. With positive reinforcement the dog really WANTS to do what you tell him/her not just doing it because they are confused why you hurt them when they don't. I'm so glad you have a clicker...they really are good to use.
08-30-2008, 02:05 PM
Yes, our PetSmart has training classes, not sure if they have clicker specific classes. Can't afford them right now anyway. But he seems to catch on quick...when he wants too. He had a puppy size Kong when we first got him and he managed to bite the end off it, believe it or not! I forgot he had a "rattle" shaped kong type toy...can't remember if it's a Kong. He doesn't play with it too much. Sometimes we give it to him at night with some food in it.
08-30-2008, 02:41 PM
Oh I never bothered with the puppy sized ones! :D Gotta give them something to aim for after all...when I'm big I shall be able to destroy this toy!
08-30-2008, 02:43 PM
Lauren....remember when I told you not to get a puppy?? *pam grins and laughs he evil laugh* Anyway, I have never heard of a clicker. I use a rolled up newspaper for when Daisy jumps...I don't even have to use it, just show it to her...before I would hit my hand with it, she was afraid of the noise, but it seems to be getting much better. As for the toys, I learned a long time ago that dog toys don't last. The kids' stuffed animals actually hold up better than the dog ones (conspiracy, I think to get us to buy more, lol). Anyway, the kids each gave her one of their toys. She still chews stuff she shouldn't occasionally, but it's usually after we've left her alone for a long period, like "I;ll teach them to leave me alone." Eli will get better, just try to be consistent.
Val, congrats on the loss, hope the cramps are better soon.
Okay, off to our BBq soon. Have a great afternoon all!!

My ex bought my daughter a dog for her birthday, to keep at his house. 2 months later, he decided she needed to live with us. At the time, we were living in a townhouse that would not allow pets. I moved, rent went up. I traded in my coupe for an SUV. I paid for her training. I pay for her food, vets, etc. (Ex's mom paid for the spaying). She's almost 4 now and she's more my dog than my daughter's--I'm the one who feeds her, grooms her, takes care of her, etc.
Before getting a dog, you really need to make sure that your lifestyle is going to be the right one for the dog. (my ex is a firefighter/paramedic, working 24 hour shifts. when he got the dog, he had a GF, but 2 months later, she was gone and he couldn't take care of the dog when he was gone for over 24 hours at a time)
I used to think it would be cool to have a puppy and a baby so they could "grow up" together, but they both require a lot of work and attention and one or the other would suffer, I think.
Good luck with the pregnancy! Hold off on the dog:)
08-30-2008, 05:16 PM
My computer is on the blink again so I'll only be here sporadically. It's in the shop and I won't find out until Wed how much it's going to cost to fix. DH isn't interested in spending much 'cause we just spent $150 and it's old. We'll probably be shopping for a new one soon. Sigh. I don't want a new one. I love the one I have now. Anyhow, I can only get online when DH will let me use his. Not that he's stingy, he just uses it too!
Rikki: Congrats on the baby!! I agree with the others, NO puppy now! I've been Jonesing for one, but I've been giving myself the same advice! I have a toddler, I don't need a puppy! Also, Cass is scared of them and I didn't know if it was better to get one now so she could get used to it and hopefully not be scared anymore or respect her fear and not get one. I dunno.
OK, gotta go. I hope you guys are having an awesome Labor Day Weekend!!
08-30-2008, 06:33 PM
Pam, :lol3: YES! I should've listened to everyone!
08-31-2008, 12:03 AM
Hey there everyone! :) Just popping in to say hi. I haven't been on in a while but I'm still hanging in there. Hope everyone is doing well! :) to you all! :)
08-31-2008, 09:15 AM
morning all...just a quick hi...i'll catch up on posts tonight but got to go to work soon. Yep i'm working all weekend, includin monday. Oh well...thats my part of my job
08-31-2008, 03:30 PM
Rikki congratulations on the baby, I say no to the dog thought, I am a dog lover, I don't know what I would do without a yorkie in my house, but I think it is too much to handle all at once a baby and a puppy, no matter how good of training you may get for the dog, you still need the time to enforce it, I remember when Sean was a baby how little time I had to even take a shower! thats just my opinion, keep us posted.
GG sorry you have to work all weekend, that part of your job has to be very difficult~
Hi Sunshine! good to see ya!
Karen sorry your computer is not playing nice! if you have to buy a new computer, like I did, I would highly recommend getting a MAC, I love mine, it is awesome and I got the classes they offer for one year you pay $100 and you take a privet lesson for 1 hour weekly for the whole year the classes are on what ever you are interested to learn about, one week can be one thing and the next something totally different, I love it!
Misty that doesn't sound to nice of your ex, it was kind of imposing on you with the dog. I guess that is a good reason why he is an ex! lol!
Caff how is you mom today?
Poppyseeds I just hear that cinnamon tea is suppose to help with menstrual cramps.
Pam enjoy the weekend, have fun baking!
Alicia hello! I am so sorry about all the home work your little one has, I bet it is hard to think you can't be there everyday to help with it in the afternoon, hang in there! O is a Cirque de Soilel that is fantastic! it is in my opinion their best show! lots of acrobatics combined w/water.
Well I am back from Las Vegas, we had a great time, it was a great trip, we got to see the shows I really wanted to see. The hotel was kind of chaotic, we bought a time share at the Hilton Flamingo, we tried to make reservations to stay at the Flamingo but we couldn't cause they are doing some remodeling in the hotel so they were booked, so we stayed at the Hilton Grand Vacation a little towards the end of the Las Vegas strip, accross from the Sahara, this particular property doesn't have a casino, it doesn't even have a restaurant, but that was just fine, we ate at the different buffets and the best one of all in our opinion is the Bellagio's it is the best mmmmm.... any way we had a few things happened at the hotel that I could had done without! lol, to say the least, the maid came in to clean our room after I asked them to do a deep cleaning of the room as it was not perfectly clean and couple of days after she did, I was getting ready to get dressed, we stopped at the outlets on the way to LV, I couldn't find my bag with my brand new clothes, guess what happened??? the maid threw the bag away thinking it was trash cause it was sitting next to a trash can! so we had to file a police report with the hotel's security, I honestly don't think she stole them I do believe she did indeed threw them away. The hotel did rembursed all our charges in the hotel and the points we used to book the week, we are still waiting to get $$$ back for the shopping bag contents. oh well! I guess I will have to go shopping again....
I just posted new photos on my webshots page, I posted very nice pics from the trip from Hoover Dam and Fire Mt. I also posted the new sweater I just finished
I got to go I have a house full of kids ready to go on the water slide and I have not put it up yet~
got to run~
see you later
08-31-2008, 03:39 PM
sorry I posted the wrong link here is the right one
As for work being too hard on me . . . not yet. We will start putting up Christmas on Monday or Tuesday. :p It is way too early to think about. I had Friday off, worked yesterday, have today but work on Monday. (I only work 4 hrs, get paid for 10)
Congrats to the one who just found out she's pregnant (sorry I read 3 days worth of posts). I agree with the rest, getting a dog right now is not the proper time.
Well off to check other things. Have a good holiday y'all.
08-31-2008, 06:49 PM
Hannah-great pics. yeah it does suck to have to be working when everyone is playing...but i guess that's life. Sorry to hear about the hotel mishaps.
lisa- ugghhhhh christmas already. No say it isn't sooooooooooooo God i hate how early they put up christmas stuff.
hey to everyone else
08-31-2008, 07:34 PM
All of you guys talking about working this weekend are making me feel like a lazy bum! I took vacation from work last Thursday through next Friday, but didn't make any plans. We went to the state fair on Friday and will go see Phantom of the Opera on Tuesday night, but other than that I have no plans. Actually, I think I'm going to deep-clean my house. I haven't done it in a while and I'm sure there's dog hair hidden in places I don't even want to think about! lol
Hanna-I'm sorry to hear about the craziness at the hotel! It sounds like overall you had a good time, though, so I guess it turned out okay. It's always a relief to be back home, though!
08-31-2008, 07:36 PM
GG, luckily its not my area. Yea it is going up (I am thinking) starting Tuesday.
Hey Mist we were posting at the same time, :welcome3:. I dont think I have ever seen you, so welcome.
08-31-2008, 07:40 PM
my water slide was not able to be used, it has a pretty good size hole on it, I tried to patch it but didn't work.
I took a bunch of kids to the pool (to the time share we own locally) and we were only there for a couple of hours, the kids wanted to come back home, which is just fine and dandy with me. I am super tired today, I need a vacation from the vacation....
08-31-2008, 08:47 PM
mist- enjoy being a lazy bum...wish i could. I love phantom of the opera...its my favorite play. Enjoy phantom!
08-31-2008, 10:19 PM
hello everyone hope you all are having a great weekend! just wanted to check in things are not going so good here dd has still got a high temp. i have been cleaning like a crazy lady well till there was a bat in the house ....nasty yuck oh my yes i hate them. they are like rats with wings. so after 2 days they got it out tonight i don't think my poor kids will be the same...and i might never sleep normal again
hope everyone has a great night
08-31-2008, 11:42 PM
OMG how did you get a bat in your house? I agree with you they are like rats with wings. Yack! I am glad they got it out Sorry about all that and about your fever.
my lower back hurts like crazy, I have had pain on it for a while but not this bad, I am just trying to be comfortable. Sean has one more day before returning to school. I am looking forward to the schedule getting back to normal. He needs it too, needs the structure.
See you later
09-01-2008, 12:16 AM
we think it got in threw the bathroom we have a room in it that has the hot-water heater and all that in it. we are putting up new drywall and don't have it done yet.
i think the better news for the night could be my DD fever might have broke poor thing going on 6 days now with one. she got up and man covered head to toe in sweat i think the antibiotic must be working now.

hope you feel better soon
09-01-2008, 07:35 AM
Morning all...getting ready for work.
I guess am i the only one who's fascinated by bats. Bats are very cool to me (but i'm very strange). Once you learn a lot about them and their biology...they are really fascinating critters. I like watching them fly around using their sonar to get buggies. When i was at school at UF...they have a cool bat house...right at sunset i would go down there and watch over 20,000 bats all come out at once....very cool...but i guess not if your creeped out by bats.
09-01-2008, 11:51 AM
Busy, busy, busy here. GG, I'm with ya, we have bats in our trees that fly around at dusk. We sit on the patio & love to just watch them, they are so cute. Having said that, I think if I found one in my house I'd freak out.
Adah, hope the little one is feeling better. Sweat is a good sign :)
hannah, glad you enjoyed your vacation overall. The pics are fantastic, looks like you had lots of fun!! DH wanted to go there for our 10th anniversary, and although I want to get there someday, we decided to go to Punta Cana so we can just relax. The Hoover Dam is on my list of things to do when we finally do make it to LV. did you guys fly over Lake Mead? I've heard that's awesome.
Mist, welcome to our part of the board!! There's lots of nice people here!!
Lisa, nice to see you. I can't believe you're putting out Chtistmas already, I have seen bits of Christmas stuff popping up at the craft stores, etc. YIKES!!
Well, the kiddos start school tomorrow, and I got very mist-eyed this AM, Cadence crawled in my bed when she woke up, and I realized that she'll be on the bus at that time tomorrow. It's hard to explain, she's my last one, and even though I'm looking forward to her being in school, it's still hard. DH was like, "you want to have another kid?'' I was like, HECK NO!!!
Anyway, we're off to get her new earrings today, and a few cd's that are on sale. Frankie wants the Jonas Bros., she wants Camp Rock, and DH wants the new Coldplay & Testament...Circuit City is having a great sale, so we're gonna hit that.
Okay, gotta get in the shower.. hope everyone has a great day!!
09-01-2008, 12:27 PM
Pam Las Vegas was wonderful, we didn't even go to the casinos once! we didn't fly over Lake Mead, we drove there, and we did go to see the Lake, it is an amazing place, we loved it! The Hoover Dam is amazing, someone was saying they may be closing it to the public all together for security reasons.
If you have a chance you should go there, you don't have to gamble to enjoy Las Vegas, all though now I know next time we got there we will not take DS
tomorrow we are going back to school yeah!!! :cheer: it was not too bad of a vacation it was only one month for DS here, thank G-d! he didn't need any more time off! it was just perfect!
I asked him last night was he remembered from the summer and all he could tell me was he went on a trip to and saw a pirate show (that would have been the pirates show at the Treasure Island, outside and free) I was very surprised he didn't remember the 3 weeks of camp at the YMCA, I don't know if it is cause the trip is so fresh or if it is something to do with his memory. I need to run by the Dr.s grrrrrr....
I will see you guys later!
09-01-2008, 01:03 PM
Happy Labor Day everyone!
Hanna, loved the pics, thanks for sharing with us! Looks like a great family vacation! I could do without the casinos myself, but I wouldn't get away with taking DH there without him visiting them.
Pam, you know now that my kids are older I kinda wished I would have had another one. I guess its not to late but there would be such a big age gap. You'll be amazed how fast the morning flys by though.
Hey to everyone else. Hope everyone is good! I haven't caught up on all the posts yet. I am super tired today.
09-01-2008, 08:01 PM
we had a pretty good day today, I had a lot of the kids from the neighborhood come over and do tie dye shirts, it was fun.
I was afraid to weight myself, I ate like crazy like week on our trip and I did got on the %#$# scale, I am 4 Lbs. over, I am not happy about it, I am going to try to go to the gym in the mornings.
09-01-2008, 08:26 PM
Pam, you make it sound like I personally am starting the whole Christmas thing. I agree with you. It is way to early. . . . especially for those of us who have to see it day in and day out. It is going to be up stairs this year, and I am down stairs so I have no part in puting it up.
Work was boring today. I even did some of my work that needs to be started tomorrow. I left at 6, but the store was staying open til 8. I felt sorry for those who had to stay, but not sorry enough to stay with them.
09-02-2008, 03:13 AM
Misty...we were at the fair Friday too! :D Wonder if we bumped into each other and didn't know. Did you get to the photography section? I've got 6 pictures up in there. :) Oh, and I went to Phantom last week...it was fantastic. I saw it in London years ago, and though the special effects are more impressive (not a traveling show...they can do more) the voices in Portland were just as good and I think I actually liked the guy who played the Phantom better (we got the more sleazy looking guy not the male model looking guy at our performance). I hope you have a blast.
Sorry, it is after midnight and I'm exhausted, otherwise I'd reply to all the other posts too.
Just 2 quick FYI's though.
My mom doesn't have DVT but the doctor is worried she will. She has to start taking a fish oil and sleeping with her leg up and stuff like that.
My sister was assaulted at work quite a while ago. They caught the guy and he's on trial tomorrow. His lawyer is trying to make it seem like it isn't the guy who did it but some other person who hasn't been found. So...she's going to give a statement tomorrow and is a bit terrified. I'm going to go and be moral support and shoot daggers at the back of the guy's head too.
