Been trying to fit a lot of extra walking in every day, and I'm always curious how much I'm actually doing. But there are so many pedometers out there, I need help!!! :o

I have heard and read that wearing your pedometer on your shoe, provides a more accurate reading. Several of the women at my TOPS group have tried it and where quite impressed with it. I've been meaning to do so, but didn't want to risk losing my expensive Weight Watcher's pedometer (it was about $20), so I bought a $5 pedometer at Fleet Farm (they have the same or a similar model at Walmart), and I'm very surprised. It's more accurate than my WW model when I wear it on my waist. Since I've had no problem with the pedometer falling off, I'm going to attach my WW pedometer to the other shoe and compare the two.

I clipped the pedometer onto my shoelaces, but you can also clip it to the side of the shoe (some pedometers have to be clipped on the vertical to work correctly).

Omron HJ 112. It was a recommendation from here at 3FC. You can wear it on your waist or carry it in your pocket, in your purse or in any bag you are carrying. I like the extra safety clip on it. I bought it on the "store" link here. It is very accurate. I followed the easy directions to set it up and have worn it on the treadmill while I walk and it comes out to the exact same mileage measurement.

Thanks. And I think I'll try attaching it to my shoe too. Never thought of that.

I have this pedometer too, and love it. Very easy to use.

I don't have any specific pedometer recommendations -- mine is purple and my parents gave it to me? ;) But I just wanted to chime in and say I love wearing it. Knowing it's there reminds me to keep moving and if I'm waiting around for a shuttle, or phone call or whatever I find myself pacing, in order to get my mileage up.

What is the recommended goal for number of steps per day? Does anyone have any info?

I think the standard recommendation is 10,000 steps/day. (that works out to about 5 miles)

Ok, dumb question......Does wearing it on your shoe only count the steps on that one foot??
